Book *Eight* of the Wine of the Gods series. She saved a world, but not perfectly, not everyone. Drained of her magic, exhausted, she could not block out the screams of the injured and dying. She could only flee through a dimensional gate to an unknown world. A town that accepted her. A town that needed all of her limping, injured, magic to save them when they came under attack.

And hooray! We get to find out what happens to Rustle after she wanders through a gate with amnesia, after the events of the last book.

It took a while to adjust to a new world and new society, but since Rustle is as new to it as we are, we get explanations naturally. It was interesting to be exposed to another group of exiles from the original wave, who ended up in a different world.

The first half of the book is almost a stand-alone story, and then the second half follows, concurrently, what else takes place for both the characters we know from the series to date, and the characters we met in the first half of the story.

And it was very interesting to see what role Rustle was going to need to grow into...

Can I rate this book 6 Stars?

I like where this series is headed! A lot! In this book we see the long painful healing process Rustle goes through after her role in the previous novel helped to save the world from destruction by one of the periodic comets that often strike her planet. I don't want to say anything else because, you know, spoilers... But, Damn, this was a fun story! So much going on!!!

a good place to start

Some of the earlier books can feel a little jumbled. This one keeps with a consistent narrative flow long enough to establish a lot of foundational info.
