I really wanted to like this book, but the story just didn't pull together enough. Like why does the guy who turned the main female character go around killing people like he is a vampire who needs blood to feed when they are shifters? Why did her torture her before changing her since that doesn't seem to be a requirement to turn someone? (I don't consider this info a spoiler since its all in the very beginning)
Near the end information regarding the impeding war is brought up and then kinda just dropped, it would make sense if there was a sequel but the whole ending threw me for a loop. The story seemed kinda shallow at times and I feel like if the story had been much longer, even multiple books, it could be really really amazing as the ideology presented at the end was very unique.
I notice the authors other works are more standard paranormal romance(no hate, one of my fav things to read), so this is probably their first time writing such a large world story, but I have high hopes for future books and if they ever rewrite this one i'd love to see how it turns out.

This story is not only about Shifters and Mortals, but about accepting people for who and what they are. Our heroine was born Mortal but became Immortal through a bite. She learned to embrace her inner animal and how to shift into that animal at will. When war breaks out between Immortals and Mortals, everything changes. I found this story to be very apropos considering the state of the world at the moment with all the fighting and wars. The story is well written, flows along beautifully and I was invested in the characters and what happened to them.
One night, Brooke's life is forever changed from mortal to immortal. With a pending war and prophecy looming, she will find herself on a journey of self-discovery and love. This story invokes strong emotions and a feeling of never-ending conflict.

This is a story told by the FMC based on events in her life after gaining immortality.
While this story is well told, it is not for me. No doubt there will be others who enjoyed it, especially if they enjoy a recounting of events as told by one of the characters.

I absolutely love this book. Annie is an amazing author and writer. You are immediately involved and dedicated once you start. This book is self-discovering and love throughout. You have prophecy with an impending war with high emotions. You step through events and moments of her gaining her immortality.
I was so excited to read this one because I absolutely loved Spark Forged in Ruin. However, this one did not resonate me with as well. I loved the premise of the story but found myself confused throughout the story and had trouble connecting with characters. Overall, it is still a good book and I look forward to reading more from these authors.
