After losing her parents in a fatal accident, Marin must step at once into their shoes: her mother's to take care of her brother, John; her father's to run the advertising agency he founded.

Her brother has Downs syndrome and has stayed at home most of his life, and Marin refuses to place him in an institution, despite the urgings of family and friends to do so.

Phillip Wilder helps bring disabled and non-disabled people together by placing clients in jobs throughout the city. But when he receives a call from Marin Brooks, who hopes to use his service only as a day-care facility for her brother, he balks.

What holds her back from letting her brother get a job? Will God help these two, who seem perfect for each other, reconcile their differences?

This was actually a decent book, which surprised me! It tackled the issues of sudden parental loss and Disabled Sibling Care, and the latter was done in such a way to be very respectful of the disabled community! It definitely highlighted the struggles a disabled person and their families face and I really liked the depth of emotion that showed through in this story!

Marin got a bit on my nerves, as I kept thinking that she was behaving as if her brother was a burden! I liked the way Philip kept working on her, making her see that she was stifling her brother. I also didn't like how he kept his past from Marin, especially in light of how it affected him and his entire career.

All things considered, this was an enjoyable read!

Wow, this was an excellent book and I loved it. It's been around for a while, and I think it's the first of this author's books I've read that was set in the present day and wasn't from a Mennonite POV.

When Marin's parents die in an auto accident, she is left with some very great responsibilities: filling her dad's shoes as the head of his advertising firm, and caring for her brother who has Down's syndrome. She refuses to place John in an institution - her mother has kept him at home for 30 years, and he has been sheltered from the harsh and sometimes cruel reality that DS people often face in public. But where will she find a day care situation for him?

Phillip Wilder has devoted his life to helping disabled people train and find jobs in the community. When Marin turns to him for help, he agrees to care for John during the day for one month, while she looks for other arrangements. But Phillip and Marin have a history that neither of them remembers until their memories collide one day and the whole situation blows up in their faces. How will they find a solution for John, and for themselves?

This book was so full of love and faith - not preachy, but showing how God works in the lives of those committed to Him, to bring them into the best He has for them. Highly recommended.

Truly heartwarming

Part heartache, part healing. All heartwarming. Marin and Phillip are brought together in care of John, Martin's brother with Down's Syndrome. As each seeks the best for John, disagreement, past history, grace, and second chances shape their story. This story, its characters, and redemptive themes will stay with you long after you finish. Definitely will seek out more of this author's books.

Book 1 in Kansas Weddings

When Marin and her brother lose their parents in an accident, Marin takes over her father's business and John's care. She meets Phillip at New Beginnings an agency that provides support for handicapped adults. It is tough to let go of John and let him be more independent and trust Phillip. Phillip instantly becomes attached to John and his beautiful sister.
