Wren's Nest

Rate this book
During a late-night thunderstorm, Joe Chandler open his cottage door to a young man hovering over his sister. They’re drenched and shivering, and she’s in labor. Joe, a retired cop, assists the birth. As the newborn gasps his first breath, Joe vows to protect the child and his mother from whatever drove them to his door. Joe soon learns that Sherman promised to protect his sister while her husband is deployed. Now, they’re on the run after a surrogate mother disappeared and an unscrupulous lawyer altered his files to name Loren (Wren) as the surrogate. A ruthless gangster with hired thugs is in pursuit of the child he mistakenly believes to be his grandson. While Joe and his team of retired cops guard Loren and her baby, Sherman teams up with Blake Adams (the Phoenix Connection) to intercept the hired thugs as they follow a trail that leads straight to Joe’s cottage (Wren’s nest). If you like a story of high tension with strong family ties and warm relationships, I think you'll enjoy WREN’S NEST.

Just way too slow, repetitive, and boring though there was a chance I would enjoy it if it wasn't so repetitive.

The minute I started reading, I was hooked. On a dark and stormy night, someone knocks on the door, and he opens it to find a couple, soaked to the skin, the woman about to deliver her baby, asking for help. From then on, it is tension, and what can happen next. Loved it and will be looking for more of Deanne Durret's books.

Loved it!

Joe is a wonderfully developed character, someone I’d like to know. Matilda his neighbor is quite the friend. And since I live in Oklahoma City and knew people who survived the bombing it held special memories.

Lots of typos; slightly “preachy”; but an interesting read.

Good Story Line, but...

This book was difficult to read.
Deanne, you need a new editor. Could have been an easy read except for all of the typos and errors with characters names.

Great read. Full of compassion, suspense and a very small touch of romance. If you enjoy books with all of this you will not be disappointed.

Wren’s Nest by Deanne Durrett is a great story of love, the love one gives and receives through helping others. Joe Chandler is fast asleep when a very loud knocking on his front door awakens him. He opens the door to find a young man and woman soaked to the skin in the driving rain. As they enter the house, Joe realizes that the woman is in labor but he is an ex-cop and has delivered babies before. The young man tells Joe that Blake Adams in Phoenix sent them. With this information Joe relaxes and gets everything ready for the impending birth. The young couple are brother and sister, Loren and Sherman, and they are fleeing from their lawyer uncle who has substituted Loren as a surrogate mother due to the disappearance of the original surrogate mother. After Joe learned that Sherman was Loren’s brother then he just assumed she was a single mother. Loren assured him that she was married and that her husband was in the Air Force Special Ops somewhere in the Middle East.

Deanne did an excellent job in the development of all elements of this story. Each character was so well developed that I felt as if they were close friends. Well the lawyer uncle would never be a friend but he was also so well written that one could not help but greatly dislike him, even feel a little hate, and have the desire to toss him in jail and throw away the key. The scenes were so descriptive that during the birth of the baby I could almost feel Loren’s pain and then her joy when the baby was placed in her arms. There were several twists and turns in the plot and each one seemed to be more suspenseful than the next. While reading everything that Joe and his retired cop buddies were doing to protect Loren and the baby, I did a lot of nail biting and sitting on the edge of my chair. Matilda, Joe’s neighbor and friend, added a lot of love to the story but she also was the cause of a great deal of danger and fear. The story has a happy ending and even a surprise at the very end of the story, at least it was a surprise for me. I really appreciated the way the author showed through the main characters, the importance of prayer and how helping others brings happiness to the one being helped as well as to the one doing the helping. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the Phoenix Connection Series about Joe Chandler and his retired cop buddies.

I definitely recommend this book to all readers who enjoy a clean and suspenseful story with strong Christian values and enough romance to be interesting.

Thanks to the author, Deanne Durrett, for providing me with a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

" Wren's Nest" by Deanne Durrett is positively a five star book. I was hooked from the first sentence! Of course I know the book was about keeping a newborn baby safe, I love babies and I like to read Christian/inspirational novels, so I knew this would be a winner.

Joe Chandler answers the knock on the door and is immediately thrown into a mystery! He tries to keep his house guests a secret but his neighbor discovers the secret and she is thrown into the mystery!

I did not figured out the hero of this story till I was almost finished reading it! I bet this hero will fool you also, but once the story tells the hero, it was obvious, of course, that is what makes a great story!

Since this book was loaned to me from a friend,I did not read the first book, but I definitely plan to as well as any subsequent books. This book works absolutely fine as a stand alone, but I am now so interest in these characters and want to know more about them.

This book is full of twists and turns! It is a book about friendship and trust! There is also a hint of romance but it isn't developed in this book, hoping maybe it will be in a later book.

I would recommend this book to anyone that likes a good mystery with a happy ending !

Well written, this book keeps you on the edge of your seat until the very end. Joe helps out a young couple sent to his doorstep. While the plot twists and turns, the flirting with the idea of a romance between Joe and Matilda was a happy spot to the story, even though some of her actions are more of the "I Love Lucy" type, she is a lovable woman who wants to help Joe and the young woman who gives birth upon showing up on Joe's doorstep. This is a wonderful book that stands alone, but having read the Rogue's Trust, I knew I was in for total enjoyment! I was given a copy of this for my honest opinion. This is a wonderful book that will keep you hooked from the first page!

I really enjoyed this book. I was pulled into the lives of the characters and the story line from the first pages. The story is a wonderful combination of faith, romance and suspense that kept me reading, and I read it in one setting because I didn't want to put it down. This is another one from this author that I definitely recommend, and I certainly will be reading more by her.
