Jagged Edges

Zeke
For years I went through life solo, punishing myself for the mistakes that I made when I was merely a boy, taking on the responsibilities of a man. Until Riot West.
Guarded and mysterious, he was a puzzle I needed to solve, an itch that I needed to scratch. And for awhile, he made everything better; but I did what I do best and I pushed him away, driving him into the arms of another man.
Cole Lennox isn't just another man though, I'm drawn to him like a moth to a flame, but at the same time, I'm terrified that he will steal away the only thing I love in this world.
Oh yeah, and to top it all off, I'm keeping secrets from everyone I know. Secrets that just might destroy us all.

Things to know about Jagged Edges
Jagged Edges is the third book in a series of interconnected standalone novels, known as Havok Hills. While you do not have to read them in any particular order, it is highly recommended that you do, otherwise, events in one book may spoil key events in other books. This is a dark, spicy, MMM romance intended for those 18 and older. It contains dark themes that may be triggering for some people. The full list of TWs is inside of the book, and will also be available on my website. Please reach out if you have any questions at all about the content.

4.5 Baby Boy Stars ⭐
Spicy Level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️.5/5

I have kept putting this review off because I don't know how to do this book the proper justice that it deserves! There's something about the writing that I love and adore and even whilst dealing with dark and sometimes really difficult-to-read topics, it still manages to keep you captivated, engaged and emotionally invested in characters. Something I often don't even see in well-established exorbitantly popular authors.

This is an MMM Romance (And it is the first actual "MM" book I have read with smut so that was a little bit refreshing, but I still enjoyed it and need to get used to the word precum (which is ENTIRELY A NORMAL WORD AS PER MY FRIEND WHO ADORES MM...it's like as common as "wet")

Note: Whilst you could technically consider this a "standalone", you would be doing yourself a major disservice, there is a slight overlap with aspects and characters from the previous two books in the series. Also, the previous books set a really solid foundation for the basis of the plot.
While Travis and Spencer's story (Book 2) is still my favourite of the three, this is the story that has had the biggest emotional impact. This follows Zeke, Riot and Cole.

Riot is my favourite of the three- because while he has a silly boyish charm and almost an inherited innocence to him (especially around Zeke), he is also a total badass. Being second in charge of the Havok Brotherhood he can be lethal when he wants to be. I loved that his character brought in such a blend of strength and vulnerability - given he has been starved for love and attention his whole life. He feels things hard and while being quick to react and explosive he's still underneath just a "baby boy".

Zeke is a little scary and I did not expect such a delicious dominant dirty mouth. I almost felt like he was the main character in this story (though it is shared almost equally) - his story and backstory just felt so much bigger. His dominance is a facade though, as he carries deep emotional and physical scars that make him feel unwanted. He is petrified of love as he has never been shown the emotion and does not want to risk losing Riot by taking that leap of faith further.

Cole is that spark that brings them together - and while some would think he would throw a spanner in the work, he fixes all their problems. I always think of him as the little golden retriever puppy with his blonde hair, gorgeous body and goofy smile - everyone just can't help but love him.

As mentioned this story is emotional. It explores deep into the realms of psychological impacts of trauma and how guilt can shape our personality and actions. It is raw and it is difficult to read at times. It does not shy away from difficult topics and dealing with them head-on - but it also highlights the importance of sharing your trauma with those whom you love and emphasises the testament that your made family and the ones you love will be there to pick up the pieces and put you back together again.

On top of all of this, being able to see the enhancement and progression in the quality of writing from H.C. Riley is amazing. She was fantastic in my opinion in book one, but with subtle nuances and a clear growth in her confidence, you can feel how much she has solidified and exponentially improved her craft.

All in all, this was a fantastic instalment to the Havok Hills Series and if you like something dark, spicy, emotional and captivating, this read is for you!

Trope Summary (with some triggers I like as tropes):
▶ MMM Romance
▶ Multi POV (3 POV's)
▶ Secrets and Lies
▶ Organised Crime
▶ Pet Names
▶ Posessive MC's
▶ Hurt/Comfort
▶ Found Family
▶ Degradation and Praise
▶ Will Burn the World Down

Thank you so much to H.C. Riley for the ARC in exchange for a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own

4.5 stars. This was a well-written, solid story. Build around the blooming relationship between three men, with some gritty criminal cases and related action.
Meanwhile, we get to know them better and understand their situation and hurt.

I loved it to see them vulnerable, I got emotional knowing their past.

Zeke is on a personal warpath, finding the one he couldn’t save, Riot wants to protect, and Cole is our artist who perfectly fits.

At some point, the situation is getting worse and worse. I only will say: Mind the trigger warnings.
The story was well-balanced, on one side a lot of dark matters, on the other side enough heat, delicious interactions, and a whole bunch of love.
One tiny tiny personal thingy, I didn’t like their endearments, sorry, just wanted it out.
Overall a very entertaining, gritty, suspenseful, and at times super hot read with lovable characters.

3 Men. 1 tattoo artist/ hacker, 1 artist/ bartender and 1 muscle for the brotherhood that is sometime of mafia.

The first Zeke is emotionally unavailable and plagued by his past.

The third Riot is a big softie that has a trauma filled childhood filed with grief and fear.
At first, you see Riot and Zeke have something with each other, Riot loves Zeke and Zeke loves him too but is too closed off to ever admit it for fear of loosing Riot at the end; so you kinda see Riot struggle with what he thinks is unrequited love and coming to times with how he may have to take what he gets because he loves Zeke too much to leave him.

_________________

Insert our second, Cole. Their light because he isn’t plagued the death on his hands, the nightmares that keep people awake. He’s just pure and both Zeke and Riot has thier eyes on him.
The story starts of with both Zeke and Cole sharing Riot before you see their relationship dynamic progress and bloom into something so fucking strong they go through IT to get their happy ending.

Now keep in my mind that the first two books in the series are MF and they are a lot of things with the plot that feels inconclusive and underdeveloped then buckle in for the ride.

Not only did I read this in a day as I couldn’t put it down, but it also turned me into a slip and slide with a side of ugly crying. Talk about an emotional rollercoaster.

Please make sure you read the trigger warnings, it does get heavy and god did my heart break over and over again.

The secrets and twists had me holding my breath but then there’s me hoping we will get more stories from these secrets… fingers crossed.

Riot, Zeke and Cole. All three of their stories, the love and even trauma has me in a choke hold. And there is so much trauma but with the trauma comes healing.

Riot: second in command to the brotherhood, kid from the streets and is good on his knees. “Baby Boy”
Zeke: tattooist and tech genius, foster kid who saw and heard things no kid should ever. Great at giving commands.
Cole: bartender and artist, had the perfect life growing up, well the life his parents wanted for him. Living his best life until he wasn’t, and my god did I break down with him.

I feel like you don’t really need to read the first two books before you read Jagged Edges but I highly recommend it as they are also hands down just as good. Plus there’s a backstory you should know and other characters also before jumping into this.

I'm so glad I got to read this book! After reading the first two books in the series, I immediately went to H.C. Riley sent to ask about Riot and Zeke's story. When I saw that it was going to be MMM, I almost lost my head.

The chemistry between Zeke and Riot is huge from the beginning and they have some kind of relationship, but Riot wants more. But Zeke is broken and doesn't know how to give himself to Riot.

Riot is also attracted to Cole and after some flirting back and forth something happens between them, no cheating!

The three of them start a relationship. And the way they care for each other and are there for each other is everything! It's so beautiful to see their relationship blossom.

Don't be fooled by all the lovely things I have to say about these men! This is a dark romance and touches difficult themes. Read your trigger warnings! While reading some parts of this book I couldn't hold my tears. My feelings were all over the place while reading: smiling, smirking, gasping, crying, screaming, dripping... The men are also so possessive and protective!

It is so beautifully written. The other two books were also good, but this is a level higher. The character growth was so well described, in addition to the spice, there is also so much plot, intrigue, lies, ... in it. Even the difficult scenes were treated with so much respect...

One word: masterpiece!

I can't wait to read the next story.

This was my first MM book, and it just so happened to be MMM! I love Riot, Zeke, and Cole. All characters so different but so sweet. I read this in two days and there were soooo many plot twists. It yanked my heart out in some spots that I paused and just sat blank face for a bit, trying to process what the f I just read! The mountains they all over come to get their happily ever after are so worth it!

PLEASE CHECK TRIGGER WARNINGS: there is some heavy topics in this book. One of the MMC’s is raped with an object and tortured.

This book made me feel so is many things. I finished it last night and now I don’t know how to move on.

Welcome to Havok Hills.

Riot and Zeke are amazing together. Both afraid to admit they love the other for their own reasons. Riot needs more, enter Cole. Sweet sunshiny Cole. They think he will be the glue needed to bridge the gap for Riot and Zeke, he ends up being more than they ever imagined for both of them. These 3 boys are so precious. And while I adored Riot and Zekes relationship, Zeke and Cole gave me life. The relationship they developed was one of trauma but also so so much love.

The spice is so so very nice. We get some delicious mmm scenes but also everyone gets their time to shine together. Riley knows how to write pure smut and emotional connections.

This book is going to stay with me for a long time. Definitely a top contender for the year.

I loved Riot in Wayward Souls, and I was so excited to get a peek into his story with Jagged Edges. I love the dynamic of him and Zeke. But adding Cole into their equation really was the light that they needed.

And poor Zeke doesn’t think he deserves to love or be loved due to events from his past in foster homes. He’s carrying the weight of the world on his shoulder, in the name of revenge. Riot may have captured me in Wayward Souls, but Zeke stole my heart.

Cole. Our sweet Cole. He is just the perfect addition to the dynamic. He’s artistic, he’s funny, and he really is just the light. My heart was shattered for him during the end of the story. But he’s so freaking resilient.

My jaws dropped SO MANY TIMES. Tears also fell SO MANY TIMES. The spice was spicing. I never want to leave Havok Hills.

💬 𝐅𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐐𝐮𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬: 💬

💭 Except the longer I’m with him, I no longer believe he’s the sickness. He’s the antidote I’ve always needed, but I don’t want to be cured.

💭 Someone who’s here to steal the one thing that makes breathing every day a little less difficult.

💭 “You are the best person I have ever known. Some days Riot, I feel… I feel defective. I feel like I’m broken. I feel like my insides are plagued with sickness, so I push everyone away, including you. The thing is though baby boy, I may be sick, but you… you’re the cure. I love you. I fucking love you, the killer inside of you and all.”

I have been waiting for this book and omgggg it was so worth it (hasn’t released yet but hang in there friends lol)! It’s MMM dark romance perfection but that being said please check the TW as there’s a lot of intense stuff that happens and is discussed. Riot, Zeke and Cole have my whole heart now, these 3 men go through it to end up as happy as they deserve together- it was truly a throuple where I don’t have a favorite, I’m obsessed with them all!! That never happens to me btw lol! The writing and story is superb and their relationships are perfect and it’s so hot 🥵 love loved it, it’s HC’s best in my opinion;)

So this was my first MM romance and happened to be MMM. Steamy absolutely, unhinged definitely, plot twists massively. This book was so good and well written. I need more of Riot, Zeke and Cole. They have a love that overcomes most and the things they had to overcome to become a great throuple was amazing. The 2 major plot twists threw me for a loop. To find out some of the things this book gives you is shocking to say the least. I love this book and the rest of the Havoc Hills series. Riot is my favorite but I cannot help but to love Zeke and Cole just the same. A definite must read in my opinion.

This book was so amazing on so many levels.
H.C Riley knows how to suck you in and keep you hooked.
I loved riot in fractured parts and watching him grow into this whole new person in this book conspired to book one. He will forever be the “kid”.

You get snippets of zeke, riot and cole in the first two books as back ground characters but they 100% needed this spotlight and moment.

You can read these as standalone books but to fully get the whole story you should read Feactured Parts and Wayward Souls first.

I love being apart of your steeet team Heather, you have a whole army of people who see how amazing you are and this book really is the moment!
Enjoy lovely!

This book has me craving so much more. Meeting Riot throughout the series and slowly learning about Zeke and Cole had me on edge waiting for this book. Heather knows how to keep you drawn in with action and keep you here for love stories. I’m obsessed with each of the characters and fell in love with them all for different reasons. I am convinced that HC cannot write a bad book. The whole crew of Havok Hills just keeps getting better and better. I knew I loved Riot from the beginning when he was introduced and when I found out he was getting his own book, I was thrilled.

Him, Cole and Zeke make an incredible trio. This book is so incredibly heavy with the past of all 3. The ending is so well worth it though.

This was my first MM book…then it turned into MMM so color me excited!!!

The spice in this book is on a whole other level!!! My goodness. I was blushing and I don’t blush!

Zeke, Riot and Cole have literally had some rough upbringings in such different ways, they all deserved the happiness. I never expected the PLOT TWIST! My jaw was on the floor. This book was EVERYTHING.

AMAZING writing yet again by H.C. Riley. The way she brings a characters story to life is almost unmatchable.

Jagged Edges was the first MMM romance story I’ve read, so I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first received this ARC by H.C Riley. But I’ve been a fan so far of the Havok Hills standalone series, so I was excited nonetheless. And let’s just say that fans of DARK romance/organized crime with SPICE 🌶️ won’t be disappointed.

Beyond that, the author navigates the love stories of Zeke, Cole and Riot beautifully. From living through difficult childhoods, to overcoming horrendous trauma, the reader gets to witness the development of this sweet found family. But be warned - she will also rip out your heart, tear it into pieces, and knit it back together piece by piece. Be sure to read the trigger warnings prior to reading ⚠️

Thank you to the author for an ARC of this book!

Unfortunately, I just could not get into the plot. Please note this is entirely my opinion and does not reflect the content or writing of this book - this is my personal opinion and from what I’ve seen, this book was well received by the ARC team!!

Although I didn’t enjoy this book, I do love the writing style of H.C Riley and I think I’ll check out another one of her books again in the future!

Man do I have a review for you - Jagged Edges by H.C. Riley

One of my favourite humans, Heather, or H.C. Riley, has released her third novel in her Havok Hills series. I've been fortunate enough to snag a signed copy of her very first novel in the series, Fractured Parts, and let me tell you, once I read it, I was completely hooked!

Then came Wayward Souls - I had the absolute privilege of being an ARC reader for the second book, and now once again for the third. I am beyond privileged and honoured to be writing this review for Jagged Edges.

So - where do I even begin... Well, this was my first-ever MMM romance, and I have to admit, I was a bit apprehensive going into it simply because I've never explored or dove into this genre before. However, I freaking adored this story. I fell in love with the characters and revelled in watching them develop and emerge from their shells and truly just grow as individuals but also as a "throuple".

"Because we will find them, even if I have to burn down that fucking mansion and run through the flames myself" – Riot

Riot – Watching Riot evolve as a character and become an integral part of the story has been a joy. I'll admit, every time his green hair is described, the first image that pops into my mind is, of course, the Joker. I know, it's weird. Maybe it's becoming a trope now.

But regardless, I can vividly picture Riot, and I've relished witnessing his growth. He craves not only care and affection but also seeks to express his love in a more dominant manner. It's fascinating to see how his relationships with both Zeke and Cole differ based on their individual needs.

"Kissing Cole is different from kissing Zeke.

Kissing Zeke is like chasing the storm, driving straight into the eye of the tornado. The walls wildly whip and thrash, destroying everything in its path, but there’s a calmness in the center that everyone wants to experience.

Kissing Cole is like basking beneath the double rainbow when the storm is over. The winds have calmed, the birds are chirping, and the sun is shining down on you, filling you with an indescribable warmth.

And me? I’m a fucking storm chaser through and through, but I’m also learning that I really love the aftermath too." – Riot

Zeke – Oh, how I adore Zeke. We delve deeply into his character in this book, gaining insight into the trauma he carries and the shadows of his past that seem to haunt him. He endures so much and has grown accustomed to solitude, navigating his struggles alone. Seeing him shut himself off from Riot or push him away was heartbreaking because the reasons behind his actions were palpable and understandable. But then something changed. When he and Cole went through the trauma they did, we witnessed Zeke open up and learn that it's okay to be vulnerable, especially when surrounded by not only one, but two men who love him unconditionally, inside and out. It was truly remarkable. And then there's Cole.

"Cole was something that I wanted but couldn't have, and now he's something I need and can't get enough of." – Riot

Cole - He truly served as the glue that held them all together. I was uncertain how the dynamic would shift with Cole's inclusion, but witnessing the growth between him and Riot, and then later between Cole and Zeke, was a testament to the depth of development and highlighted that the missing piece in Zeke and Riot's love story was Cole.

Each of their journeys, their relationships, and the challenges they face have truly captivated me. While their experiences include moments of happiness, sadness, and total trauma, there's also a theme of healing woven throughout. However, it's important to note that amidst the beauty of their connections, this is a dark romance that delves into complex themes.

Please check your trigger warnings!

Throughout the book, my emotions ran the gamut - from joy to surprise, from tears to laughter. The characters exhibit possessiveness and a protective nature, which adds depth and intensity to the story.

Heather - this book is an absolute masterpiece!

I can't wait to read the next story.

xoxo

New ARC Review!!!
Jagged Edges by H.C. Riley
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/🌶🌶🌶🌶

This is the 3rd book in the Havok Hills series. This story delves into the lives of Zeke and Riot, members of an organized crime group called The Brotherhood. As they wade through the murky waters of trauma, revenge, and loyalty, they find themselves falling for one another, but neither of them give 100% of their true self. That is until the light-hearted bartender Cole enters the picture. Cole seems to open up parts of both Riot and Zeke that they have hidden away for years.

I don't want to give away too much of the story, but these 3 men will be tested to the extreme, but in the end, love conquers all. 💙💙💙

Genre: Dark(ish) MMM romance
Tropes: Organized crime, hurt/comfort, found family, possessive MCs, degradation & praise, secrets & lies.
Trigger warnings: Yes

ARC review:
As soon as I saw this was MMM I was intrigued. I didn't really know what to expect as I went in almost blind, which turned out not to be a problem, as I was pulled in from the start and just kept reading.
The story was a lot more emotional than I thought it would be, but it was balanced well with the suspense/action, some spice and the most amazing characters. Seriously the relationships between the three MC's was really solid and well developed.

Riot (baby boy) is a total badass, but he was also vulnerable and just wanted attention and love. Zeke put me off a bit in the beginning, as he came off quite scary and closed-off, but underneath his tough exterior he was scared, and I really felt for him a lot. It was an interesting dynamic with the two of them - they both wanted more, but Zeke didn't know how to give it. Enter Cole, who is just the perfect addition to Zeke and Riot's somewhat troubled relationship.

All the guys have their fair share of trauma, which is explored well. While it was a bit tough to read at times, it just added so much depth to the story and actually was really inspiring (don't shy away from the hard stuff). They are also very different with their individuality shining clear through, but seeing them come together was everything! The different dynamics, the character growths and the overarching love was just wonderful!

Jagged Edges - H.C. Riley

5/5⭐️
5/5 🌶️

✨✨✨✨✨✨
Wow this book from the start just absolutely consumed me. I could not put it down. This book follows 3 beautiful men that are seriously broken in all their own ways. Riot seriously might be my favorite 😍 but Iove all three so much. Riot and Zeke in the beginning were truly making me feel all the emotions while also making me want to shake Zeke to open up. I loved watching them both go through trying to figure out their emotions with Cole. Cole was the light they needed to help bring them all together in the perfect way. The secrets, the lies, the love and the hurt in the book is amazing! I will forever be thinking about this throuple.

“They say the truth with set you free, but in my case, the truth will be the downfall of us all.”

This story follows a trio of broken men who were introduced to us in the previous books & although I highly recommended that you do for the world/character building. Please check trigger warnings beforehand as they may be heavy for some readers.

🔫Riot West is charming, and deadly as hell as second in command for the Havok Brotherhood.“Riot West is an absolute enigma. He’s all violence, tattoos, and mystery, wrapped in a calm of charming exterior, and I ache to unravel him.”
☠️Zeke Adams is the epitome of complicated; tattoo artist, hacker, and master of keeping secrets. “Zeke Adam’s is a closed book that sits on my shelf, silently begging to be read. Only it’s not just any book, it’s a locked journal and he sealed the key a long time ago, leaving me on the outside looking in, dying to know what’s inside.”
🎨Cole Lennox is a confident golden retriever who bartends, and happens to be the medium that binds the two obsessions he loves to paint... Zeke & Riot.
🍺 I was so happy to see appearances of Travis & Spencer again! Spencer is the glue that keeps this throuple centered.

Thank you HC Riley for the advanced copy of this book as I’ve truly enjoyed this series!

I love this series by H.C Riley so when I saw that this book would be a MMM I wanted to read it!

This story has a lot going on in it but it will keep you on the edge of your seat. As always read the TW with these books.

I fell in love with Riot in Wayward souls. This man is the best and if you are in his inner circle he will do anything and everything for you. Riot is funny, sweet and has a slight innocence to him yet he is also down right murderous for those he truly loves and cares about.

Zeke was introduced in Wayward souls as well. He was always a mystery to me but I loved his relationship with Riot. Zekes backstory will break your heart and opens you up to why Zeke is the way he is. The way he hides his emotions from those he cares about is understandable and at the same time you just want to give him a big hug.

Cole is a fun mix to Riot and Zeke. Is not into what Zeke or Riot do, he is however, aware of what they are a part of. Cole is an artist and he is drawn to both Riot and Zeke in different ways. Though Riot and Cole have the stronger bond/pull at the beginning in the end it is Zeke and Cole who share a different bond with each other for what they have been through.

All 3 men are very different but all bring something unique to their relationship together. I would have loved to see a bit more recovery and growth with them after what Zeke and Cole went through (especially for Riot) but I still really enjoyed the story.

I can't wait to read the next book in this series and I would like to thank H.C Riley for the arc of this book.

𝕁𝕒𝕘𝕘𝕖𝕕 𝔼𝕕𝕘𝕖𝕤 - ℍ.ℂ. ℝ𝕚𝕝𝕖𝕪

𝓘𝓽’𝓼 𝓷𝓸𝓽 𝔂𝓸𝓾𝓻 𝓯𝓪𝓾𝓵𝓽. 𝓨𝓸𝓾 𝓭𝓲𝓭𝓷’𝓽 𝓱𝓾𝓻𝓽 𝓶𝓮, 𝓩. 𝓨𝓸𝓾 𝓴𝓮𝓹𝓽 𝓶𝓮 𝓫𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓽𝓱𝓲𝓷𝓰.

This book got my attention from the start, and it kept me interested right to the end.

Zeke is the result of growing up in state care. Resentment, anger, fear, and rejection are some of the things he learnt from his time in foster care. There was, however, one good thing, and he is determined to get it back no matter the cost.

Riot is a teddy bear. A big, bright eyed green haired, gun welding, drug dealing teddy bear. His love for Zeke is getting harder and harder to keep to himself, and he knows any time now it'll spill over the edge. That can't happen, though, because Zeke doesn't love him back or won't let himself.

Their life is dark, they have no blood family left, and the found family they have collected around them have rules. Zeke and Riot are about to find out what happens when they break them.

And what happens when they let Cole into their circle or well...triangle.

Will Cole flood their lives in light, or will they drag him into the darkness.

Thank you, @h.c.riley
For the opportunity to read this ARC. Jagged Edges is easily the most entertaining, gut-wrenching, and beautiful MM book I have read on the dark side of the MM genre.

Riot, Zeke, and Cole. Three unlikely men finding the missing pieces to their jagged ones!!

Zeke the hardened, closed off tattoo artist and behind the scenes hacker and Riot, the green haired Havoc Hills Brotherhood second in command have had an agreement for awhile now but Riot has caught feelings and knows Zeke could never accept him or his love. Zeke is trapped in the past and feels like he doesn't deserve love so he keeps everyone at bay.

Enter Cole, the bartender who has a crush on Riot and is intrigued by Zeke but makes a promise to stay out of the Riot/Zeke complicated relationship. But what's he to do when Riot makes a move??

When secrets are revealed and mistakes are made, two of the men are kidnapped and put through some extreme trauma. But trauma has a tendency to bring the hardest of walls to come crashing down.

This book brought a bit more of the hidden pieces to light and a lot of my favorite characters from the series make appearances and play major roles as well. I can't wait to see how the next books bring the loose ends together.

Be sure to check the trigger and content warnings, there's quite a few in this book. The love, compassion, and understanding between these guys makes it a beautiful love story!
