4.5 ⭐ Wowza!!

"The Couple In The Cabin" is riveting, I was sampling a few chapters as I was listening to another book at the time. Before I knew it, I was half done and had to force myself to put it down!

Grace comes home to find another woman's bra on the sofa, close by her husband's clothes. Dominic thought she was out of town for another night and brought home his mistress! They're nowhere to be seen in the main house. She suspects they're in his cabin/office in the back garden.

Oh, it stung when she caught both of them naked in the cabin. She decided to lock them inside and burned their !*#& in the fire pit and turned off the heater. The cabin was super reinforced for security so that it couldn't be broken in, and neither could they get out.

A lot of twists and a super fast pace. I didn't want this one to end! I would not have guessed the plotline and how this will play out.

What took me so long to try this author? I had my eyes on "The Passenger" since it came out but never committed to it. Haha, I get nervous when I see a lady on a train. 😉 Well, it's now on my TBR and I can't wait to read it.

The audiobook is superb and enjoyable, read by Eilidh Beaton and Matt Bates for two different PoVs.

Thank you, Bookouture Audio and Netgalley for my ALC.

There's revenge…then there is REVENGE!

Returning home from a work event early one night, Grace finds her husband Dominic “entertaining” a younger woman in his shed behind the house! So classy!🙄

All rational thought disappears out the window! Instead of opening the door and yelling, screaming, crying…she takes a totally unexpected approach. Grace locks them in the cabin! Maybe she found it easier to lock them away…perhaps because this isn’t the first time?💁‍♀️

This was another speedy thriller from Daniel Hurst! The premise was rather unique with a few good twists along the way!

The two narrators did a fabulous job with the characters! I enjoyed both equally.

Daniel Hurst seems to be releasing books at breakneck speed…and I still have a few older ones to listen to! But I’d better hurry because I’m sure he has another one set for release!

Wow, I just finished my last Daniel Hurst book, and let me tell you, I was blown away! Grace catches her husband in a very awkward situation with another woman in their backyard cabin. And what does she do? She locks them in! But here’s the twist—she’s done it before! Talk about a woman you don't want to mess with! This book is super fast-paced; I couldn't put it down. The story is a bit over-the-top, but it’s so much fun! I was hooked from start to finish!

4.5⭐
Publication date ~ book ~ October 20, 2022, audio ~ November 1, 2022
Page Count ~ 232
Audio length ~ 6 hours 45 minutes
Narrators ~ Eilidh Beaton, Matt Bates ~ both enjoyable
POV ~ dual 1st
Featuring ~ dual timeline, childhood storyline, infidelity, locked room, revenge

Grace & Dominic have been happily married for years, or so Grace thought, until she walked in on Dominic and his mistress in a compromising position. She does what any sane wife would do and locks them in the cabin they are caught in.

I really liked this plot, but not the characters so much. It's fast paced with twists and turns, and secrets coming back around to bite ya in the rear.

I think this is my second book by this author and I'm not really sure why I haven't read more, so I'll have to rectify that asap.

EXCERPT: The cabin looked like a warzone. Something truly terrible had happened in there. And it was up to the police to figure it all out.

Sure, the cabin at the bottom of the garden might have been a good idea at one time.

But in the end, it became nothing more than a crime scene.

And worse than that, it became the place where Grace and Dominic really learnt the truth about one another.

ABOUT 'THE COUPLE IN THE CABIN': When happily married Grace comes home early one night and catches her husband, Dominic, with another woman in the cabin at the bottom of their garden, she is shocked, angry, and most of all, hell-bent on revenge. That’s why she acts quickly, locking the pair in the cabin while she decides what she wants to do to them.

While Dominic and his mistress desperately try to get free, Grace makes a plan on the outside, but it’s a plan that is formed based on her previous experiences. That’s because this might not be the first time Grace has done something like this…

Who is the real villain? The cheating husband? Or the vengeful wife?

MY THOUGHTS: They say revenge is a dish best eaten cold. Grace has absolutely no intention of letting her desire for revenge go cold. People she loves shouldn't hurt her, should they? And if they do? Then they deserve everything they get.

Crazy fun is the best description I can come up with for The Couple in the Cabin by Daniel Hurst. This is one of those books where it is best to go in cold, and just enjoy the ride.

Told from multiple perspectives - mainly Grace's and Dominic's - and over multiple timelines, we learn what has happened in Grace's past that made her into the person she is today. While I was outwardly appalled at her actions, some little inner part of me was cheering her on.

The Couple in the Cabin is a quick, fast-paced read that appalled and enthralled me. But there was one set of circumstances that really did not sit well with me - - and kept this from being a five star read.

I listened to the audiobook of The Couple in the Cabin, superbly narrated by Eilidh Beaton and Matt Bates.

Whew! What an amazing book/audiobook!

Everything changes when Grace comes home and catches her husband, Dominic, with his mistress in his mancave/office in their Garden. Talk about being blindsided! She is devastated, heartbroken and beyond angry. She closes the door, locks it, and fumes. How could he do this to her?

Dominic and his mistress try to get out. They shout, beg, and try their best to get out. Will they be trapped forever? Will Grace let them out?

The Couple In The Cabin is told through both Grace and Dominic's POV. Such a great way to tell this story. I loved both of their POV's and getting into their heads. Through Grace's POV we learn that she may have done something similar in the past.

This book was so much fun! I didn't want to stop listening when life got in the way. This audiobook was gripping and had two amazing narrators. I was fully invested in the well thought out and thrilling book. Daniel Hurst has wowed me once again!

A gripping thriller which I loved both for the plot and the narration!

A wife (Grace Brown) comes home and finds her husband (Dominic) having sex with another woman (Kamilla) in the cabin at the bottom of their garden. Furious, she locks them in. But when will she let them out?

This was a very riveting and captivating book that I totally enjoyed. I had a hard time putting it down, wondering what Grace would do next. At first, I felt sorry for her, but as the book progressed, it was obvious she was totally crazy and had some terrible secrets in her past.

Another fun and exciting read by Daniel Hurst with some twists and surprises.

This story took me quite a bit of time to get invested in. However, I stuck with it, always enamored with Daniel Hurst’s supreme storytelling and writing abilities, and was not disappointed. The entire premise of Grace locking her cheating husband, Dominic, and his mistress, Kamilla, in a cabin for their misdeeds sounded fun. But the logistics didn’t match up. Not until we got the proper background on Grace and her traumatic past. That sweet, paralyzing trauma that can make people act out in uncharacteristic and inappropriate ways. That brought me into the plot and pulled the story together quite well. Now Hurst loves the twists and shock finales, and this was no exception. But this did not need to add the extra layer of Kamilla and ‘Clark’ to an already juicy story. It worked, but just felt like a bit of an unnecessary add on. And I do feel that there wasn’t total closure to everything that happened with Grace and Dominic, too. It ended and felt like both got off a little too easy, but I was left unsure if they deserved worse. So the ending could have been polished up a bit more. Oh, and how could I forget Frank and Maggie as the nosey neighbors. The equivalent of the Rhoades and D’arcys from Married with Children. So annoying and overbearing, but they added some extra intrigue to the story. I did have a good experience here and, although the book overcomplicated itself a bit and had a slightly unsatisfactory ending, the journey was still very enjoyable.

What's a wife to do when she discovers her philandering husband and his mistress making love in her husband's "man cave" cabin?

Lock the door, forget about the key, and turn off the electricity....... of course!

Author Daniel Hurst's latest "popcorn thriller" is an entertaining, scintillating, and suspenseful tale of love, betrayal, and revenge.

It's fast-paced and unputdownable; with multiple twists and turns.

The book's protagonists were unreliable, unlikeable, and shocking....(my favorite kind!)

The book featured a handful of eye-rolling moments that, fortunately, did not significantly impact the book's compelling storyline.

Even though the author kept me guessing throughout the book's rollercoaster ride, I was able to accurately predict many aspects of the book's borderline-contrived ending.

Author Daniel Hurst is a gifted and prolific writer who has released 15 books this year and this devoted fan has listened to them all.

Narrators Eilidh Beaton and Matt Bates did a superb job with the audiobook's narration.

Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Hunka Munka......

Karma serves up what you deserve.

Daniel Hurst laid all the cards on the table with this one. And reviewers all agree. This is one honey of a read with the cup of cleverness overflowing.

Cheating is a choice. And Dominic made his own choice that fateful day. His wife, Grace, decided not to stay in a hotel that night on business. She just wanted to sleep in her own bed. But like Goldilocks, she's not going to be alone in that decision.

Walking into her dimly lit house, she follows a trail of discarded clothing on the floor. She recognizes her husband Dominic's, but the female undergarments are definitely not hers. It all leads her to Dominic's cabin in the garden with the door wide open. The couple is not sorting garden tools. Shocked by what she's found, Grace slams the door shut and locks it from the outside.

And let the games begin.....

Whew! We'll experience that the marbles are rollin' around inside the heads of multiple people here. Grace has some dark secrets of her own. And it all leads back to that locked door and shatter proof glass in the windows.

I think we have a captive audience here.....

If the purpose of this book is to piss me off, it really did a great job in doing that.

Grace is truly something else. I immediately didn't like her. At first, I could really feel the betrayal and her pain after catching her husband with another woman but she is a very unlikeable character so I guess it's safe to say that I stopped feeling sorry for her after what she'd done to her husband and his mistress.

I particularly enjoyed being in Grace's mind. The childhood trauma leading up to how she reacts to betrayal gives more meaning to how her brain is designed. I slightly felt sad for her.

Overall. This is an OK book, fast-paced and shocking to some degree. I like the dual timelines and the flashbacks. The twists were up to scratch and didn't leave any questions hanging around. That's good enough for me.

“Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.” This statement is played out in The Couple in the Cabin. Grace finds her husband in a compromising position with another woman in his cabin located in their garden. Once she witnesses this deceitful duo, it is game on! Is Grace unhinged, or are her actions understandable considering the circumstances? Is she a damaged soul or a diabolical genius? I enjoyed every twisted second of this tale of revenge, deception and betrayal. The narrators expertly brought the story to life while adding an element of unease and intrigue. Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for my audiobook.

** Review ** The. Couple in the Cabin audiobook by Daniel Hurst.
Narrated by Eilidh Beaton and Matt Bates.

Grace is shocked, angry, and most of all, hell-bent on revenge when she discovers her husband Dominic having a relationship with another woman in their backyard cabin one night. While she decides what to do about Dominic and his lover, she locks them in the cabin.

It may not be the first time Grace has done something like this...Who is the true villain here? Is it Dominic? Does Grace deserve revenge or is she the one who deserves it?

A suspenseful thriller filled with plot twists, The Couple in the Cabin audiobook is a must-listen. Grace's antics made me smile a few times, but will her revenge go too far? The narration is excellent with wonderful voice inflections. This audiobook was well-written, and I enjoyed listening to it!

The Couple in the Cabin is available November 1st.

Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for sharing this nail-biting thriller with me. Your kindness is appreciated.

Two stars is stretching it for this book.
My very least fave of the books by Hurst. Mostly I love his books but this is not one of them.

Impossible to review because for me it is too convoluted and repetitive. I literally skimmed the last 3/4 of the book. Cheating spouses, and to say more would give away too much. It’s almost like a Jerry Springer show with too many small twists. By the end I just didn’t care.

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned!

Dominic talked his way into getting a man cave aka cabin on their property so he could “work from home” and have his own office. Grace is reluctant but she goes along with it. He goes all out and it gets every security feature.

Those security features come back to bite him when Grace arrives home early from a work function and finds him with a mistress! This man goes into the office one day a week and finds a mistress. Like a bizarre reflex, she locks the door to the cabin from the outside and there’s no way out. She just needs time to figure out what she’s going to do.

As we listen to the narration swap between Grace and Dominic, we realize that this isn’t the first time Grace has had someone backed into a corner this way. Is she going to let them out after she spooks them or are they going to die in there?

Alexa, play Mastermind by Taylor Swift.

This was a fantastic psychological thriller! I’ve read a few of Hurst’s books here and there and I’ve never been 100% sold until now! He’s got it! This started off interesting and didn’t let off the gas until the end. It had character building while other things were going on so it didn’t feel long and drawn out. It quickly spun into a literal locked room mystery!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to listen and review. The narration was great!

Grace and Dominic have been married for a while now. Dominic built a cabin in their garden behind their house, a man cave so to speak where he can work and spend some alone time. Well, when Grace come home early from a work event one day, she finds Dominic in the cabin with his mistress and let's say she loses her mind! I don't want to say more than that!!

Wow, this was a wild story. I really enjoyed listening to this one. It goes to show you that you may never know the truth about someone's past or really who there are. I highly recommend this binge-worthy book. THE COUPLE IN THE CABIN was my second book by Daniel Hurst and I am a fan! I'll be looking forward to his future books. Wow! You think you know, but you don’t know!

This was a fast-paced thriller with twists within twists! I couldn’t stop listening to this audiobook. The narrators were excellent, too.

I can’t say too much. The book is short, fast and there isn’t room for much to spill. The plot was a bit far-fetched but not enough to detract from how entertaining it was.

My first by this author, but I see he has written so many. I’ll have to try more.

Recommended for fans of domestic thrillers.

Honestly speaking can this author do no wrong? Yet again we have a quickfire psychological thriller that this time takes something as mundane as a posh garden shed and manages to turn it into an exhilarating yet dark tale of revenge, in its purest form
It’s so good….the plot is genuis, the characters pitifully brilliant and the writing as always sweeps you along in this wonderfully brazen and unstoppably shockingly awesome story
All books should be like this, all reading this good, have I managed to put over how I enjoyed it? I just love his books 😎

OMG.
So when I read The Intruder by Daniel Hurst, I declared that my new favourite of his books. Until I listened to The Couple in the Cabin.
This was utterly superb.
A good audiobook to me keeps the listeners clinging on to every word, has a great narrator(s) with a plot that keeps you interested and listening at every opportunity.
Audiobooks like this are hard to come by. This one does all of those things and more. The kind that had I not been working I would have listened in one sitting.
The plot is just nonstop, so thrilling and so full of twists I couldn't foresee the ending.
The characters are amazing, so well thought out the narrators did a wonderful job of bringing them to life.
Highly recommended.

WOW! I LOVED everything about this book, and my favorite by the author, Daniel Hurst- A powerhouse!

A twisty unputdownable psychological thriller with lots of sarcastic humor, beautifully blended (which I love)— keeping readers tense, surprised, pleased, shocked, and smiling as the wicked master manipulator, Grace, unfolds her evil plan of REVENGE.

The back story is equally as compelling as the present one! Revenge drives this fascinating thriller, and fans of Kaira Rouda and Victoria Helen Stone's Jane Doe will devour THE COUPLE IN THE CABIN!

Meet Grace and Dominic, married for eleven years and residing in an upscale countryside with a well-maintained English garden. No children.

Dominic wants a man cave (cabin) to be built at the bottom of the garden— a place to work from home— away from the noise and distraction of the house.

He finally talks his wife, Grace, into moving forward with the project, and spares no expense in keeping it secure and safe with the building process.

Dominic loves his new office and worked out of the cabin four days a week, only having to leave it occasionally when he was required to go to this real office in town. He also enjoys it for relaxing with a beer, TV, and we find out later for "other things." His neighbor also wants a cabin.

But the cabin will turn out to be a NIGHTMARE and the place where Grace and Dominic will learn the absolute truth about one another.

Grace has an out-of-town networking event and was supposed to stay at the hotel due to late night meeting, but she thinks she will surprise her husband by coming home instead. When she meets a stranger, Clark, he agrees to drop her off and leaves her car at the hotel.

When she arrives home, she finds a woman's clothing and her husband's lying all over the house. WTH —she cannot believe this and frantically begins searching the house, thinking she will find him in bed with someone. Her blood is boiling. Her husband would never cheat on her. No one does this to Grace. We learn more about what happens when someone crosses her.

However, she cannot find anyone, but where could they be with no clothes? The cabin?

Dominic and Kamilla (half his age)— decides to be adventurous since they have had sex in all the rooms of the main house, apparently while his wife is away.

They decide to go naked to the cabin and continue their night with a bottle of wine because, after all, his wife will not be home until the following day.

However, Grace walks in on the couple having sex on the floor, and she turns around and locks them in the cabin. Shocked, Dominic and Kamilla find themselves trapped. They have no clothes, cell phones, laptops, or keys. The windows do not open since he had it built this way. No one can hear them with the impact windows and doors.

Then Grace goes a little crazy and brings all their clothes and everything of Dominics from the main house to the garden in front of the cabin and sets everything on fire. Is she psycho, a sociopath?

How and when will they get out?

She also turns off the power; they have no bathroom or food in the cabin. Wine is out of the question since no restroom. They both have to go to work the following day. When will she let them out, or will she leave them in there to die?

Grace is so proud of herself and goes off to work the next day in a great mood, and decides she will leave them there until she figures out their punishment and what to do next.

What comes next is a deliciously wicked game of cat and mouse from writing letters sliding under the door and guessing what Grace will do next.

However, Dominic does not know that Grace locked someone else in a shed/cabin when she was ten years old, and the outcome was not good. Is she a murderer? How far will she go?

Does Dominic know his wife? What will she do next?

Gosh, this was so GOOD!

Told from alternating POVs— Grace and Dominic, present day and the past with Grace when she was ten years old. The past story was equally as compelling as its connections to the present. Grace is complex and appealing —keeping you guessing and on the edge of your seat until the very end with a nice twist.

A deliciously dark story with a chilling, funny protagonist! Readers will enjoy seeing how far Grace will go for her revenge, plus there is more about Kamilla to unravel. You will feel sorry for Dominic before it is over.

A HIT! Daniel Hurst shines with this skillfully, deviously, and cleverly crafted sociopath character of Grace and keeps it coming to the wicked conclusion!

Highly recommend!

I just found out this came out this week, yesterday—purchased the e-book, dropped my current read, and started it last evening before bed. Looked down and was at 50%. Got up this morning and finished it straightaway!

Readers, this e-book is only $1.11, or you can read it for free if you are an Amazon unlimited subscriber. Best money you will spend. There are also several teasers at the end of the book with his other works. I am quickly trying to get to his backlist. I also want to listen to the audiobook, and sure it will be a riot! I would not mind seeing more of Grace in future books. READ THIS BOOK!

The premise of this book was so intriguing, and given that premise, the story could have gone in fantastically riveting directions. And it almost did. However, even though I got through it fairly quickly and was entertained by some parts of it, it was not a favorite of mine for several reasons. If I were to explain my reasons, I’d have to give a spoiler alert. And I’d rather not do that, at least not today. I might revisit that decision in the future, though, because so much of what I didn’t like really, really irritated me! And I might find I need to get those grievances off of my chest at some point in time!!

But for now…
For the most part, the characters were incredibly unlikable
and their actions questionable. Some of the dialogue was painful to read. And I found one of the twists really twisted (meaning a bit deplorable). I felt like by the end I was left with more questions than answers.

Anyway, because I’m in the minority here, you might enjoy it more than I did. But maybe try one of Daniel Hurst’s other novels first, because I do enjoy this author’s stories for the most part, so I’ll continue reading!

I wasn't hooked or even intrigued by the first few chapters. I was bored and debating whether or not to keep reading. Nothing at all interesting happens. And then--BOOM!--a riveting tale begins.

This is a story of sinister and twisted revenge that was both disturbing and delicious. The ending really disgusted me though and I'm still very put off.

This was a riveting story! Grace unexpectedly comes home early from an evening business event to find another woman’s bra and then a trail of clothes in her house. She discovers her husband “in action” with another woman in a man cave of sorts that they had built in their backyard - or back garden, as this is a British story. She then proceeds to lock them in that cabin. I can’t say too much more without giving away some of the twists and turns in this short novel. I listened to the audiobook and the two narrators (for the male and female main characters) did a wonderful job: Eilidh Beaton and Matt Bates. The story is told in the first person so you really get into that person’s thoughts.

I did shake my head at the idea that the design of the cabin meant they couldn’t just unlock the door and walk out, but then there wouldn’t have been a story!

This is the first book by Daniel Hurst that I’ve read (listened to!) and I suspect it will not be the last.

Thank you to Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to an advance copy of this audiobook. All opinions are my own.
