Allie Blanchard is a beloved figure in the seaside town of Sandy Harbor. Known for her delectable desserts that make every town event a little sweeter, Allie’s life is a blend of sugar, spice, and everything nice. Beneath the serene surface of her perfect pastries and her happy marriage to the town’s dedicated detective, Alec Blanchard, lies a sharp mind with a knack for uncovering secrets.
Allie is tasked with preparing a spread of her famous desserts for socialite Penny Braxton’s annual garden party, expecting a day of sweet treats surrounded by flowers and shrubs. However, the event takes a sinister turn when Penny is found murdered, turning the tranquil gathering into a scene of chaos and suspicion.
Driven by a sense of justice and her own insatiable curiosity, Allie teams up with her partner in crime—er, um—sleuthing, spirited best friend, Lucy Gray. Together, they delve into the lives of Sandy Harbor’s residents, discovering that beneath the veneer of small-town charm lie secrets, rivalries, and motives for murder.
As Allie and Lucy sift through clues and flimsy alibis, they must tread carefully. The killer is still at large, and the town’s serene facade hides deadly dangers. With her husband Alec working the official investigation, Allie finds herself in a race against time to unravel the mystery before the killer strikes again, proving that even the sweetest town can hide bitter secrets.
I p hadn’t guessed right on the whodunit for this mystery! The intrepid amateur sleuths Ethel and Lucy (as their guys sometimes call Allie and Lucy lol) were at it again after a murder at a garden party. Even Mr. Winter was talking more than usual—maybe the girls and Mr. W need to open an investigating service where they just listen to neighborhood gossip, since that’s pretty much what always helps Allie in her sleuthing. Sadie pup could be the mascot.
It’s funny when Allie and Lucy go running in the ritzy subdivisions how they’ll discuss about how fun it’d be to have one of those big fancy homes. But with them it was always just talk—they’re two ladies who love their hubbies and are super happy with their regular lives. And…they’re alive to enjoy their regular, everyday living.
Enjoyable read. I read this in record time. I enjoyed the characters. I wish the puppy had been adopted. But I look forward to reading more in this series. It's fast paced and easy to get caught up in and lose all track of time. I highly recommend this series
