A STORM IS COMING...

Although she faces the tragic loss of her husband, Brenna will never succumb to fear or grief, nor will she surrender to the one man she despises - the very man who now has the power to control her destiny. Like the storms that rage unchecked over the moors, her fury is about to be unleashed.

A HIDDEN LOVE...

He does not look at her, or speak to her, and most importantly, he does not touch her. These are the rules Duncan set for himself long ago to ensure his affection for his best friend's wife remained undetected. But under the weight of a land besieged by war, the walls he erected to shield his heart crumble.

If he can earn her trust, the one woman he has always loved may at last be his. But first, he must save what he cherishes most from a nightmare of dark secrets.

This is an interesting read, much more interesting than book 1 . Duncan had always loved Brenna .

After her husband and his best friend had died. Duncan had promised his friend that he would look out after his wife and daughter.
Brenna had always thought Duncan did not like her. After her husband’s death, she started to see Duncan in a different light.

Wonderful story of abiding love

This was such a wonderful story of abiding love. Duncan fell in love with Brenna the moment he first saw her only to discover she was married to his best friend Ewan. Being an honorable man, he hardened his heart towards Brenna to keep him from acting on his impulses to ravish her and dishonor himself and betray his friend. When Ewan lays dying in his arms after saving his life, he promises Ewan to take care of Brenna and their adopted daughter Nellore. Feeling he still can't pursue the woman he loves for fear that he will dishonor his friends memory and sacrifice, he continues to treat Brenna with indifference much to her chagrin. The longer he is around Brenna, he finally comes to realize he can no longer ignore the love he has for her and when Nellore's life is threatened, Duncan steps in and promises to keep her safe. I thoroughly enjoyed Duncan and Brenna's story and it had me totally absorbed. Highly recommend it!

I liked the history

I think I was more into the history than the romance in this book. I love Scottish history and instantly recognized Angus Og MacDonald's name.

I had a hard time liking either of the main characters at first. I dubbed Duncan a pig because he had sex with some strange woman on the mountain just because and then wanted a dancer. It was like he couldn't control himself. It made me think less of him.

Brenna seemed like a shrew. Everyone kept saying she was steady and even tempered but she said rude things to people and was super impatient and ungrateful.

I liked the plot though and the other characters.

I have one more complaint. One of my biggest peeves is when an author writes too much introspection, especially in romantic scenes. It ruins the scene. I don't want to go through paragraphs and pages of introspection over and over again.

Great Read!

Nothing better than a wonderful Scottish Highlander book to make you stay awake all night because you can’t stop reading it. This book is a wee bit long but it’s worth it in the end. I loved Book 1 in the series Isle of Mull and have enjoyed Book 2 even more. It’s well written and full of amazing imagery. There is fiery tempers, love, laughter, mystery, friendship, and so much more to this book. Take a chance and read a great series.

Review: What can I say about this book? How about it was amazing!!! I fell in love with the characters instantly, Brenna is definitely my favorite. She reminds me a lot of myself, she's a very strong independent woman, if she loves something or someone she fights for it, even if it means hurting herself in the process. Duncan was a great character also, I liked reading his about his battle with his heart, he tried so hard to stay away from Brenna but he just couldn't do it. I was able to see his soft side but also seen how mean and rude he was to Brenna. He did frustrate me a few times with how rude he was to her but I understood why.

The story line was great, I never expected the ending at all. I was thinking it was one person when it was someone else completely. I think the author did an amazing job with the wording and detail, I could imagine myself being in the book and watching everything unfold. I would definitely recommend this book.

A heartfelt story!!

Duncan spies a beautiful woman and seems to fall in love. When he introduces himself his best friend Ewan comes up and says I would like you to meet my new wife Brenna. Duncan is devastated. He then hardens his heart and then treats her with indifference. After several years on marriage Brenna finds herself barren. There lairds lady finds a child on the moors and give her to Brenna and Ewan to raise as their own. When Duncan, Ewan, Cormac and a few others go to Berwick to see a supposed peace between England, instead an English army slaughters everyone including woman and children. Duncan and his men barely escape with their lives but a few didn't make it including Ewan. Before Ewan takes his last breath he asks Duncan to care for his wife and child, Duncan agrees!! From animosity rises lust then love between Duncan and Brenna and miracles. A wonderful story!!

Brenna's husband Ewan is killed in a brutal attack from the english. With his dying breathe he makes his best friend Duncan promise to take care of Brenna and their daughter Nellore. Brenna knows Duncan doesn't care for her. He barely looks at her let alone speaks to her. But what Brenna doesn't know is that Duncan has loved Brenna from the moment he laid eyes on her.

I loved reading about Duncan fighting his feelings for Brenna. He didn't want to dishonor his best friend by loving his widow, but being close to her every day made it harder and harder to deny his feelings for her. I craved those moments when he would let go and soften towards her. My favorite scene is when she flips out and cuts her long red hair off and then cries at the table. He comes up behind her and runs his fingers through her hair and massages her scalp and neck and rubs her back and then grabs the scissors and evens out her hair. It was so sweet. ugh I loved it.

This was set quite a few years after To Bewitch a Highlander. Shoney and Ronan are in this. And so is their daughter, in fact their daughter Anna is Brenna's best friend. It was neat reading so far in the future, it was sort of like an epilogue for Shoney and Ronan.

"Hellfire, I thought you were jesting earlier," Anna said. "I hardly recognize you, Brenna, with your wild eyes. 'Tis a wee bit thrilling to see you riled up."

The book takes place many years after the first one, as Ronan and Shoney are in there 50’s. This book reminds you of the wonderful H/H in the first book and brings you on to the next generation.

This story is about Duncan and Brenna. I liked this book a lot. It seemed a bit different to me than other books I have read. This one has the hero cold, and almost cruel towards the Brenna. To all the other clansmen he is wonderful, caring, and funny. It is confusing and hurtful to Brenna because he is her husband best friend, and when she needs him the most, he isn’t there, emotionally, to help her. See her husband dies; she is grief stricken, and needs support. He gives the support but in a cold and mean way. He never meets hers eyes, demanding/cruel with her, and short with statements towards her.

Over the next chapters we find out why. We also see the potential for a wonderful bond between them grow, in a weird sort of way. It works well too. There is some mystery, you will have fun trying to figure out the “Who done it” part of it all. He also learns a lot about himself and she learns to bring her true hidden self out for everyone to see. I really enjoyed this book, and cannot wait till the next book.

Brenna, a widow of Duncan's best friend, is a strong spitfire of a woman who finds herself confused by the feelings she has for Duncan because he seems so insufferable to her. Duncan is a braw warrior who is in constant emotional turmoil when it comes to Brenna. He is deeply in love with her but hides it behind indifference, bordering on cruelty, from a misguided sense of honor to his deceased best friend. Rona is a girl that helps Brenna out and I found her hilarious several times while reading even though she gets on Brenna's last nerve. There's a mystery to the story that centers around Brenna's daughter, Nellore, which keeps you on your toes. This is a beautiful story showing that "meant to be" moments happen.

Wow, what a great story by Lily Baldwin. A story of Duncan who has hidden his love for his best friends wife Brenna. When her husband is killed saving Duncan, he promises to protect and care for Brenna and their daughter Nellore. What a great battle of two head strong people. Brenna has always thought Duncan hated her because of the way he treats her and Duncan has alway been cold and indifferent to cover his love for her. Add in the secret concerning Brenna's daughter Nellore, it make for a super great story. Also weaved in the story are hero and heroine of the first book in the series "To Bewitch a Highlander" Ronan & Shoney. Thank you Lily for the great book.

Duncan keeps a promise

This is a story of a Highland warrior's promise to a dying friend--take care of my wife and daughter. That wouldn't be too hard if he didn't already feel guilty for loving the woman from afar. There is a bit of Highland mystery to the story.

I read this story first in a collection and rated it 3.5. I am writing this review after rereading the book in the proper series order. I like it a bit better understanding the backstory of Ronan and Shoney. Read the series in order. You will like them all better.

The sequel to To Bewitch a Highlander

A storm is coming...

Brenna's famed composure is unshakable even when faced with tragic loss. But when she finds herself at the mercy of the one man she despises, her nurtured restraint is shattered.

He does not look at her or speak to her, and most importantly, he does not touch her. These are the rules Duncan set for himself long ago to ensure his affection for his best friend's wife remained undetected. But under the weight of a land besieged by war, the walls he erected to shield his heart crumble.

If he can earn her trust, the one woman he has always loved may at last be his. But first he must save what he cherishes most from a nightmare of dark secrets.
