Both of us loved River Jacobsen, and both of us were bound to lose everything if we acted on it. So, we made a pact. We pushed her away to preserve our friendship, and in doing so, secured the future of our pack with a strong Alpha and Beta team at the helm.
The night of the full moon changes everything when the fated mate bond snaps in between River and both of us. It should be impossible for one female to have two fated mates. It hasn’t ever happened before. River isn’t just an ordinary girl, though- she’s the only daughter of Alpha Theo, and she’s poised to become the first female alpha in our alliance.
Now that we’ve spent years chasing her away, how the hell are we supposed to win her back? And if we can do it in time, how can we make it work between not only the three of us, but our packs, too?
They say three's a crowd, but fate has other plans.

Brutal Reign is the fifth and final book in the Shadowed Heirs series, a collection of paranormal romance novels centered around a group of aligned packs of wolf shifters. These books contain mature content (steamy scenes!), frequent use of profanity, and darker themes. Each story in the series can be read as a standalone, but the series is best enjoyed in order. This book is a why choose, meaning the female lead will have more than one love interest.

Brutal Reign consumed my life and was absolute perfection!! This has easily become one of my top reads for 2024! This was the perfect ending to the incredible world CJ created (Six Pack & Shadowed Heirs Series).
From the first chapter, I was hooked! This book was full of angst, tension, heartbreak, and love. I truly had so much fun reading every minute of it.
Seb was a sexy impulsive Alphahole bully, and Ace was a sexy, broody artist and always thinking ahead. You would think that with them being so different, their friendship wouldn't work, but they truly complimented each other. River was stubborn, a complete badass, and a force to be reckoned with.
In any reverse harem I need everyone to have a purpose within it, and CJ did a great job doing just that. I loved the dynamic between Ace, River & Seb. Ace was the calm to Seb's stormy ways, and River bridged the differences nicely. To say I'm obsessed with them is an understatement!!!
The tension between the three of them was palpable! The spice was top tier!!! The spice was very well written and not the same repetitive scenes. In my opinion, the spice did not take away from the plot, and I think CJ did a great job balancing both, especially for an MFM.
Anyone who knows me knows Alpha Chase, Broken Bonds & Alpha Theo were my all time favourites! And it's come full circle with Brutal Reign taking over the top spot for both series.
If you love Shifter romances with a great plot, action packed with great world building, character development, loveable side characters, and spice, you need to read the Shadow Heirs series. If you really want to deep dive into their world, start with their parent's books, the Six-Pack series. You won't be disappointed.
🖤wolf shifters 🖤 fated mates (x2) 🖤 childhood friends turned enemies 🖤 forced proximity 🖤 female alpha 🖤 OTT jealous/possessive 🖤 alphahole bully 🖤 brooding artist 🖤 angst & pining 🖤 coming of age 🖤 spicy AF
Every time I reach a new story in Cj Primer's 'Six Pack Universe', I am convinced that I love that MMC the most 😍🤣. So this time, I knew I was going to have some problems since there were two. Do I have a favorite of them? Yup 😍! Will I tell you which? Nope 😘.. that would spoil things because then I'd gush about why I love him SO MUCH! But now the big issue... my boy Alpha Theo gets some fresh page time in this story, as River is his daughter, and that just means I am in love with him ALL OVER AGAIN 🫠!!
I really enjoyed the relationship dynamics at play River, Ace and Seb's story. I love the way all three of them interacted with each other (well, not all of the time 🤬). They all have very different friendships/relationships with each other, and they are all equally important and necessary.
As to be expected from CJ, the spice had me 🥵🥵🫠🫠!!! I'm always surprised at how much heat she writes into a kiss. I mean, she isn't stopping there, but those first kisses are always 🔥🔥🔥.
This book wraps up time, either our Six Pack crew. I don't think we are done with them, but I am excited for what new adventures await us in the Windy City.
Such an amazing end to another great series! I read this in one day, it seems to be a pattern with CJ’s books. I loved Theo and Brooke so reading River’s story was a bit of a full circle moment. Highly recommend, great pacing and smut on point 👍🏼
This is the fifth book in the Shadowed Heir series, and while each installment can be enjoyed as a standalone, I recommend reading the previous books to fully appreciate the character development. This story centers on River Jacobsen, a female alpha wolf, Sebastian Walker, a male alpha wolf, and Ace Conway, a male beta wolf who is also Seb’s best friend.
The book begins three years in the past, when River, Seb, and Ace were once inseparable childhood friends. However, as Seb and Ace begin to develop romantic feelings for River, they choose to prioritize their pack over their friendship with her. They never communicate this decision to River, leaving her heartbroken and confused about what went wrong.
Three years later, the trio reunites at the Security Squad’s training camp. River is once again faced with Seb and Ace, but both continue to ignore her. The tension between them is palpable, as each of them is determined to prove they have what it takes to be an elite warrior for their respective packs. While River stays close to her own packmates, one wolf in particular, Jake—the son of her father’s current Beta—challenges her leadership. Believing himself to be stronger, Jake challenges River during the full moon run in front of the entire pack. The challenge will happen at the next full moon. With no choice but to accept, River shifts into her wolf form. As she runs with the pack, she encounters her true mates—Sebastian and Ace. This rare occurrence leaves River grappling with the realization that she is destined to be with both of them, a situation she's unsure how to navigate.
I loved reading the development of the characters, particularly Seb and Ace, who finally open up to River about why they distanced themselves three years ago. They not only explain their past actions but also help River confront her fears and embrace her destiny. It’s a captivating story of growth, forgiveness, and the complexities of love.
A Sinfully Addictive Friends-to-Enemies-to-Lovers Romance 🔥👑
Friends to enemies to lovers at its finest! River and Seb’s tension crackles with every encounter, and let’s not forget Ace—the golden retriever referee we all need. The seamless transitions between past and present add depth and meaning to each chapter, making it impossible to put down. The character development from childhood best friends to bitter enemies had me on edge the entire time. If you love angst, tension, and a love story that burns slow but hits hard, this one’s for you! Prepare for a whirlwind of emotions, betrayal, and sizzling fated mates chemistry—this book will leave you breathless!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This story was amazing, that epilogue was perfect, and I am now officially crying because this feels like saying goodbye to a group of friends.
River, Seb and Ace grew up together and were inseparable as kids, but when both Seb and Ace start developing feelings for her, they make a pact to drive her away in order to avoid having their feelings for her drive a wedge between them and ruin their friendship. Fast forward 3 years, and it turns out River will definitely get between them, just not in the way they thought, because River is mated to not one, but both of them.
I love how much of a badass River is. She’s like this unexpectedly badass chick, which come to think of it, shows just how much the apple didn't fall far from the tree. I also love the balance Seb and Ace brought to the relationship and how River needs both of them to gain full control of her wolf. I loved the new pack dinamics they had to implement with both River and Seb being alphas of their own packs, and the bickering between these two was absolutely entertaining.
One thing I'd like to point out is how this is the second time that CJ does the friends to enemies to lovers trope, but in both instances it was done so differently and unique to each story that I think it shows the level of versatility that CJ has as an author.
I am sad to see the Six Pack go, but I know we'll see each other again, and I can't wait to see what else CJ has in store for us.
Quote: “He wants you. So much that he’s willing to go against his own nature and share you with me, because he’d rather have half of your heart than none at all.”
I really enjoyed reading the final book of the Shadow Heirs series by CJ Primer. I was definitely intrigued by the premise of having a female Alpha, River, with not one, but two fates mates. It was interesting to see the combination of Seb and Ace and how they complemented each other and I enjoyed seeing the plot unfold, not only with the dynamic between the three, but other aspects and plot twists the came about.
The only thing I would have liked to see was to get more of an idea of what initially drew River to Seb (and vice versa). It was very clear with Ace, and I felt like I was missing that a bit with Seb. Or maybe I just have a preference, because in a “why choose?” I’d take Ace Conway in a heartbeat.
A worthwhile shifter read, and if you’re looking for some a good spice this one has it in spades.
Book 5/5. Wish there was more about the future and how the relationships grow. Besties to enemies to lovers. 2 besties/bros share a fated mate. River is no ordinary wolf, but the only female and alpha of the Summervale pack.
Recap: River is the only daughter of Alpha Theo and Luna Brooke, who struggled with her wolf and was barely able to carry River to term. River is the only Alpha female in her pack and will take over for her father one day. Seb is the future alpha of Norbury pack once his parents, Alpha Chase and Luna Vienna, steps down and his best friend Ace, son of the Beta, Cal and Nessa from Broken bond. River, Seb, and Ace were inseparable as kids but then when they all turned 15, the boys saw how beautiful River was getting and instead of ruining their friendship by one day fighting over her, they made a pack for neither of them to have her. The only way for this to work is if they pushed her away and she would only accept if they were assholes to her. This flipped Rivers world upside down not being able to have them in her life, her wolf never fully integrated either, so she is a little wild like her moms and kills quickly. Now that the hunters have been eliminated, new recruit training camp can finally happen. River and Seb are the 2 alphas and future squad leaders joining this year, until Seb realizes that he can’t be around her alone and stick to their pack. Even though Ace was set to start apprenticing for his dad Cal at the tattoo shop, he knows he has to be there for Seb and agrees to come to training camp too. River was already angry and overwhelmed by being around Seb again let alone now Ace. Thankfully River has her bestie Harper and now Gus and Kendrick, cause jealous others are out to get her. They try to mend some things but River is pissed that she was abandoned years ago for no reason and should just be okay with them now. NO WAY!! On the full moon River is challenged by her supposed future Beta Jake, a pompous dbag that ends up mating to Chandler, the stuck up b***, that tries to make her look bad all the time. When she runs to let her wolf out and keep the pack safe and enters her cousins territory, where the squad trainees are running, she find her mates….both Seb and Ace! The guys love it, they are the only 2 ppl that could share together if it’s River, they have always loved her, but River is freaked and needs space to process. She keeps it from her dad but after a few days she has to tell her mom for support, she helps keep it a secret until she’s ready. Ace wins a one on one battle and the last match up was with Jake, he destroys him but the whole time Seb is watching and they are both learning all of Jake’s moves so they can help River take him down in the challenge. As they grow closer and give each other a chance things get spicy and Seb eats her for his first time and Ace f her for his first time. The bonds form stronger and more protective, this is very rare but it seems as time goes on it makes sense bc her wolf needs help being controlled and her mates do that for her, and they integrate before the challenge. Her dad learns of this and sees the connection and help and they slowly build relationships, as long as they protect his baby. River wins the challenge and becomes future Alpha and establishes her place in the pack. When they take over for their dads they Flex Time between both packs all 3 as Alphas, they are helping run the security squad. In the end she is pregnant with twins, which run in her family and since she has 2 mates fits. Harper is also mated to Kendrick and pregnant, while Gus is with Luke from previous books. HEA

I was so freaking excited when C.J. first announced the Shadowed Heirs series and patiently waited for River’s book, because Alpha Theo is hands down one of my favorite shifter books of all time and boy, she does not disappoint. The angst, sexual tension and spice were top tier and some of favorite from any book. While this book contains bullying, I would argue it’s more like the two MMC’s being complete a-holes, so definitely read the author’s note before starting.
I really love River, as an FMC. She’s strong, fierce, determined and takes absolutely no crap from Seb and Ace. Kinda reminds me of her momma a bit when she wouldn’t take crap from Theo. But she also has a lot of her dad in her too. C.J. did such a great job not only combining two of my favorite characters into one, but also created River to be her own person. I was so ecstatic knowing she was going to be the first female alpha in their alliance. And of course she needed two mates to balance that out. Now if Alpha Theo is my favorite shifter book, Alpha Chase comes in at a close second and I was so freaking excited when we got a little glimpse of Seb and River, as babies, so I knew (or at least hoped) what was coming in Brutal Reign. Seb and Ace are great pair for River, because they not only help balance her out, but as Alpha and Beta but, they balance each other out beautifully. While it takes a bit to get to the spicy scenes it’s so worth the wait, because the backstory and re-building of their relationship is so crucial, before they start coming together. The only thing I struggled with is that the last few chapters seemed a bit rushed, and I wanted it a bit more fleshed out, but it doesn’t hinder the story at all.
If you’ve never given a shifter book a try, I highly recommend giving Brutal Reign or any of C.J.’s books a try. They are some of my favorite shifter books and she does a wonderful job of mixing story and spice, so you get everything in equal measure.
@c.j.primer is the Author that got me into writing ARCs and she started my love for all things Paranormal. Brutal Reign is book 5 in her Shadowed Heir series. C.J. Primer has had me hooked since her Six Pack Series, but I didn’t get to become an ARC reader for her until her next generation series, The Shadowed Heir series came out. Like all the books before, Brutal Reign is Fantastic, brilliant and steamy. However, I will say Brutal Reign takes the cake as to the SPICIEST Book of her Six Pack and Shadowed Heir Series. The MFM dynamic is SPICY AF. Could she pick any two better MMC’s than Ace and Seb? I think not.
I loved that River is the daughter of the Hothead but Softie Alpha Theo was the FMC in Brutal Reign. RIver is the best of both worlds. She’s the hothead total badass that her Dad was but also the sweet, sassy and wily wolf her mom was. Her dynamics with Seb and Ace are hilarious. The story of best friends, to enemies, to lovers is executed amazingly.
The growth we see in the 3 main characters, the banter, River’s thing that makes each of the relationships its own, but allows for the dynamic of all 3 to make sense is out of this world. I love that they are what will make her the Female Alpha she is meant to be. I love that she can hold her own but finally allows them to help in each their own way. They are the perfect pair and the perfect mates for RIver. Who knew that two mates was what it took to calm her inner wolf.
As always C.J. Primer picks and writes her villain in brillant form. The best part of this book was how it comes full circle to wrap up the series and involves so many of our favorite characters from both the Six Pack Series and Shadowed Heir Series.
I highly recommend Brutal Reign and thank @c.j.primer for the ARC. I will forever be one of your biggest fans. Keep writing and I’ll keep “trusting your process”.
Brutal Reign was the absolute PERFECT conclusion to the Shadowed Heir Series!!
5 freaking stars all day long!!!
Queen C.J. does it again with another incredible, angsty, fated mates, shifter romance!!
I have to be honest.. I was a bit hesitant to read this one.. I have never read a MFM book before but let me just tell y'all, DO NOT SKIP this book!!!! Even if it's out of your comfort zone!! C.J. has a way of writing tropes I wouldn't normally read in such a way that I end up absolutely loving it!!
C.J. writes this MFM between River, Seb & Ace in such a tasteful, beautiful way that I ended up really, really loving this book!! So much so, Brutal Reign is in my TOP 3 of all the book's I've read of her's.
I absolutely loved the dynamics between River, Seb & Ace. They balanced each other out perfectly! I can't imagine their story any differently. C.J. quite literally knocked this book out of the park!
I had so much fun reading Brutal Reign! I was laughing, crying, kicking my feet, blushing, and fanning myself bc let me just tell y'all... those spicy scenes were HOTTTTT!
It was so much fun to see the characters living life without fear of the shifter hunters and the aftermath of it all.
I am sad to see the Shadowed Heir Series come to a close but had soo much fun reading this series and can't wait to see what C.J. has in store for us next :)
A huge thank you to C.J. and her team for giving me the opportunity to read Brutal Reign as an eARC. Thank you times a million. <3

Favorite Quotes: “They say three’s a crowd, but fate has other plans.”
“I don’t want to play nice.I want to f#*k!ng consume her.”
“Once I truly make you mine, babygirl, that’s it. There’s no going back.”
I absolutely loved Brutal Reign. After reading Vicious Luna, I fell in love with the characters, the world, the writing, it’s all fantastic! And I enjoyed seeing the characters from the previous Shadowed Heirs book.
The storyline was a great read and continues after the previous war of the previous book, but you do not need to have read it to understand the plot. This was a great interconnected standalone that flows really well and makes enough reference to prior events that you don’t feel that you’ve missed anything.
River, Seb and Ace are so well written, that you understood why they were both fated for River. And Ace, *inserting swooning here* is such a cute sweetie-pie that he makes you scream out loud and kick your feet!
The family dynamic was so entertaining, and you could feel the connection with all the characters.
I know my tear-ducts work overtime usually, but when Rivers wolf comes out with Seb and Ace there to help her, I did cry when Theo (River’s dad) reacted to their interaction.
It’s so difficult to write without giving away any spoilers but i’m trying as I don’t want to give anything away 😂
But i can’t tell you how much I cackled like a deranged witch at the family dinner at the end! The awkward tension at what is now their new normal.
CJ Primer makes you fall in love with every single character, and makes them all so unique that you don’t feel like there is any overlap in their personalities. And especially in Brutal Reign, Seb and Ace are like a see-saw, there for each other to create a balance that allows River the control she needs!
A truly beautiful book, and what a way to end a series!

I've been reading the 6-pack series since the beginning back on GoodNovel and have happily followed CJ along her journey. I'm so sad that this was the last book in the 6-pack series but CJ took us out with a bang, in her first (and hopefully not last) MFM story.
Seb- the bossy alphahole who doesn't know when to stop talking and loves to push Rivers buttons Ace- the closet music loving sweetheart wrapped in tattoos and a bad boy image but ruthless when needed River- the first FMC who can softhearted but is just as Alpha as Seb, working through insecurities, parental disconnect, and good ole teenage drama.
They start our as friends but as they get older and bodies change so do their feelings. Left our suddenly with no clue why, we watch as River expertly deals with the squad bullies Seb hanger-on, and an unexpected challenge. Times go by and their feelings start to shift once again thanks to fate. Will these 3 make it in the long run? Will River accept the epic grovel? Follow along for the epic redemption arc that is Brutal Reign
🖤wolf shifters 🖤 fated mates (x2) 🖤 childhood friends turned enemies 🖤 forced proximity 🖤 female alpha 🖤 OTT jealous/possessive 🖤 alphahole bully 🖤 brooding artist 🖤 angst & pining 🖤 coming of age 🖤 spicy AF
If you want to love epic redemption, slow burn, drama, spicy shifter romances, then you want to head back to where it all started with the 6-pack parents in Alpha Gray.
CJ thank you for letting us tag along through the 6-pack world
Seb, Riv & Ace The story: The trio mentioned above grew up as best friends. While teenagers the boys discovered they both nurtured feelings for Riv and decided to cast her away so as not to lose their friendship. But after turning 18 and attending the squad summer camp they discover she is both mated to them. Then it's all yours to find out what happened. What I liked about this book: -The dynamics of the couple. Seb and Riv were fighting all the time while Ace was the calming and logical factor in the relationship. -Riv as an Alpha was strong-willed and took no shit. -The banter between Seb and Riv and the fact that Riv was not backing down but took what she wanted all the time. -The music relationship between Ace and River. I love it when music unites couples. -The way the boys stood up for her. Especially I laughed when they broke this poor guy's wrists - even before they knew they were mates. -The spice was very very good! I'm not so into why-choose but it felt comfortable reading it. Don't ask me why... Maybe C.J. made it feel normal. - That Riv's wolf calmed down after mating. Things I didn't like: -That the series ended. I really feel bitter about it. Can I ask for a couple of books, please? -The names of their kids. Aren't they their surnames? I don't know it felt strange! All in all, it was a great book that I enjoyed very much. I highly recommend it and can't wait for the next series to come.
This Story is so awesome and I was hooked from the beginning to the end. The Epilogue was written beautifully and was perfect to end this amazing Series created By CJ.
River is a strong , fiery Alpha Female, Seb is arrogant unfiltered Alpha bully and Ace is quiet, Tattoo artist and beta of the pack . River, Seb & Ace were best friends and inseparable since their childhood. But everything changed when both Seb & Ace started to develop feelings for River, they made a pact and pushed her away to preserve their friendship and future of the pack. After 3 years they have to stay together at squad training camp and on the Full Moon night fate played its part, Both Seb & Ace are fated to River .
I love the dynamics of their characteristics, friendships & relationships. They have their similarities & differences. Seb & River both love Bike Riding and Ace & River love listening to music together. They are perfect & complement each other. Ace is calm & her safe place being her shadow. Seb & Wild & Fire who sets her world ablaze. She needs both of them equally to balance her world.
Their banter is so amusing, and their challenges - 'dare you' moments are so awesome. I love their explosive chemistry and Hot spicy scenes 🔥🔥❤️🔥🫠 the angst, tension and the emotional moments between them .
Sooooo good. Do I feel like the guys didn't grovel enough? Yes. Do I still love them?? Yesssss
The guys had their reasons for doing what they did and I understand them but she should have made them work a little bit harder. It was honestly cute seeing try to hate each other but at the same time getting jealous and not being able to stop thinking about one another.
The guys were absolutely obsessed with her. They never hesitated to protect/defend her against anyone. I do feel like once she gave them a chance they proved themselves. They supported her and showed her how much they love her.
River was such a baddie. She's was fierce and never backed down. If you wanted a fight she would gladly give it to you. As much as I would have wanted her to make the guys work a little bit she truly didn't need to. Those men easily showed her that they would do anything for her and treat her like the Alpha that she is.
Her and her relationship with her dad and her family was my favorite thing about this book. They looked out for her so much. Her and her dad had a little bit of problems but they worked it out and it was so cute seeing them together. All her dad wanted was to look after his daughter and seeing him ready to tear the world apart for her was amazing.
That ending 😭😭😭😭. I can't believe this is the end. I need more. At least one or two more chapters added to the end.
Brutal Reign is book five of the Shadowed Heirs Series.
This one was bittersweet as it is the last book in the series, where we will be departing from the characters we have grown to love over the years. However, we certainly go out with a great story.
While I am annoyed with Seb and Ace with how they dealt with their feelings for River, I get their reasoning. They didn't want to ruin their friendship over something which they didn't think could come to pass. But fate has other plans for these three. This story mostly just focused on these three characters and their relationships between them. There is some additional drama with other events, but I liked that this one focused heavily on developing a strong relationship between these three.
River is a strong and resilient character, however, she does have some fears which she tries really hard to hide. Ace was an absolute sweetie of the two guys. He really was more of a peacemaker and I appreciated having someone with a level head in the group. Seb was a very stubborn individual and needed to get his head out of his @$$.
This was an ending for the books, but it gave us all the closure we needed to end the series. This was definitely a great read.
This is River, Seb and Ace's story, full of angst, steamy spice, pining, minor bullying and young love, River Seb and Ace had great relationship dynamics. They blended together pretty well, there wasn't competition between the MMCs. Both Seb and Ace understood their feelings towards River and the bond they had to share. The story gives real time and insights of their past as best friends. The development of their feelings and selves showed growth and maturity amongst the 3. It was such a beautiful thing to have them come together with the 1st gen parents and be supported. A great ending to Shadowed Heirs Series. This was an awesome read. Initially slower paced than the rest, but was necessary to build each characters story and relations. Whilst this can be read as a standalone, I would advise to read from book 1 of Shadowed Heirs Series (Ruthless Alpha) or even better, start from Book one of the Six Pack Series (Alpha Gray). You will not be disappointed, CJ Primer shifter world is again the best in this genre.
🐺 Wolf shifter series 🐺 Paranormal 🖤 Coming of Age 🖤 MFM 🖤 Forced Proximity 🖤 Childhood friends turned enemies 🖤 Secret pining 🦋 Alpha FMC 🦋 Alpha & Beta MMC - OTT Jealous/possessive 💥 Spicy 🌶 🌶 🌶 🌶 💥 Chemistry 💯 👩❤️👨 Fated mates x2
Independent reviewer for BookSirens, I was gifted my copy of this book.
So, here's the thing. The blurb grabbed, it really did, even though it's the lsst in series, it says it can be read as a stand alone book. And I have no doubt that for some, it can. But for me? I missed something, I really did.
There were a lot of characters who grabbed me far more than Seb, Ace or River did and I think that's where I missed not reading any previous books.
So, here's what I did like.
All three have a say, and I liked getting into all three heads.
It's a slower burn book,. but once these three get with what Fate has in store for them, it's steamy and smexy. I liked that contrast in the before and after.
I didn't like how Seb and Ace were with River in the beginning, but given what happens later, I fully understand why they did what they did, to keep themselves away from River.
I'm just not sure this was the book for me to start with! And that's entirely my own fault, since it does it's last in series. I will, however, try something else of Primer's work, since this is the first I've read of their work.
But I finished it, and it had a satisfactory ending. I really liked the epilogues!
I have to say, Brutal Reign took me a little while to get into. I hated, and I mean HATED, Seb and Ace for the first half of the book. Especially Seb. He was so aggressive and cocky and handsy. I couldn’t see how it was going to play out with River also being an Alpha, when Seb was constantly manhandling her and demanding she do this or that. I felt like it really undermined her position. Once River accepted the mate bond, they grew on me, but I still wouldn’t say I loved them by the end of the book. I also don’t think River made them grovel near enough. I did love River. She was a total boss and I loved her relationship ship with her cousins. The spice was definitely spicing in this book, and I loved it. Finally, for as long as the book was, I didn’t feel like there was much conflict. There were a lot of smaller conflicts, like the challenge, River’s wolf, and Theo, but nothing overly climactic happens. Overall, I still enjoyed the book, and I’m looking forward to reading more books from this world and author.
I received a copy of Brutal Reign from BookSirens and I am leaving my review for it voluntarily.
I felt that the pace was a bit slow but once I learned it started as a serial series it made more sense. The plot was good but timing was a factor for my rating. River is an strong, badass fmc. I have a love/hate relationship with both MMCs but especially Seb. Dude is a douce although he does redeem himself eventually. Ace, however, I adore even though his past decisions toward River are douchey.
As far as Shifter series goes this one is good. There is the right amount of tension between the MMCs and when they come together it gets hot fast then hops back to plot. You're going to need a fan because oh-my-lanta. Yet, the book is more plot than spice. This is the 5th book in a series but I read it as a stand alone and had no problems as far as not knowing prior books/characters. They were tied together well enough that it didn't matter. There are some surprises in the plot but the way the MCs work through it definitely adds to their dynamic. I do recommend reading if you like Shifter romance but know this is a thick book at around 600 pages.
Thanks to BookSirens and CJ Primer for the opportunity to read this ARC
It was the first book I read in this series, so you don't need to read the previous books to enjoy it, but there are a few references to certain things that probably happened in the other books, so although it can be read as a standalone novel, it's probably better to read the series in order.
The story is narrated by the main characters (first person point of view) both male & female, and reads extremely well.
The story is so beautifully written it flows very well from chapter to chapter as we get to know the characters and watch them grow and develop. There's lots of chemistry & spice between the three main characters (MFM) to balance out the conflicts, action, and emotional turmoil the main characters experience throughout the book. And the ending…. Wow ❤️ I always love a happy ending and this one doesn't disappoint! I definitely recommend this book, this series, and this author. I'm looking forward to reading more from C.J. Primer.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
CJ Primer always delivers, and Brutal Reign is no exception. This story is a wild ride of intense emotions, power struggles, and undeniable chemistry.
River is fierce, strong, and untamed—a true force of nature. Ace is her perfect counterbalance: calm in the chaos, charming, intuitive, and downright dreamy. Then there's Seb, the classic unfiltered, headstrong, and impatient alpha male.
The trio grew up as inseparable friends—until they weren’t. Seb and Ace push River to her limits, forcing her to adapt to a new reality. In doing so, they awaken the badass, female alpha she was always meant to be.
Brutal Reign is a love-hate-love story bursting with pent-up tension, sharp wit, and raw passion. As they struggle to navigate a bond that defies the norm, their journey is anything but smooth. This story is intense, bold, and definitely not for the faint of heart.
If you're craving a fiery romance full of dominance, vulnerability, and electric chemistry, this one is for you.
I absolutely loved this book, the combination of the children from my three favourite books from the six pack series, perfection. This book was a 4.75 star read and my second favourite in the series. The why choose trope is one of my favourites, the bond between these three was one of the best I have read, they complimented each other to perfection. River was such a fierce FMC, I love that she always kept her held so high no matter what. Seb and Ace were like a comfort blanket, like their dad's in the first book with a little something extra. This book was the perfect ending bringing everything full circle from the first book from the six-pack territory, ending with a training camp book just how it started. This series and it's previous one were both so special and C.J Primer has done an outstanding job bringing it all to life with depth, emotion and plenty of action along the way.
OH WOW this was a fantastic story. I was on the edge of my seat and I couldn't even put it down. I was sucked right in this story and then you will get hooked in the steamy page turner and the suspense was totally intense. Seb and River was into each other a long time ago until they went there separated ways in life. Until after three years has passed they ran into each other and the knew that the chemistry and physical attraction is still their as they caved into temptation and passion could this be a one night stand or a dream love affair. Sparks had ignited in their heart and soul of romance and even love. Ace had feelings for River but she was in a three love triangle and she have to figure it out who she wanted to be with in the near future.
I highly recommend this book and you won't be disappointed. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Trina Jones
Anything this author writes automatically gets put into my "want to read" list. This story is certainly no exception! I quite enjoy a good reverse harem, and though it is a slow burn, this one also gives all the feels you are looking for. All three of the main characters have very different personalities and traits. One of them is confident, direct, and speaks before thinking. Another one knows what they want, but is having trouble finding their footing. The third character is the thoughtful, quiet strength of the group and calms the storms brewing with the other two. They truly all need one another to be complete. There are good and steamy moments, the banter is awesome, the angst is at the perfect level, and their conflicts lead to great conclusions. I have nothing bad to say about this book, honestly.

The chemistry that River has with both Chase and Ace, can be felt from the very first chapter.
Despite Chase and Ace coming to an agreement on what NOT to do, they both can’t deny the attraction that they have for River, or the pull they both feel. towards her.
Despite feeling torn between her two oldest best friends turned bullies, Chase and Ace, aren’t the only problems that River has to face.
When the person who was meant to be her Beta and her partner to show unity to the pack, decides he wants to be in charge, he makes moves behind her back. In hopes to move up in the ranks.
Facing a challenge isn’t her only obstacle. The moon has now to come play.
And when the moon tells her something that she isn’t ready to face, will she accept what fate has chosen for her? Or will she turn away from it?
I've been waiting for River's story, and it definitely didn't disappoint. It had me hooked from the first chapter.
River was looking for freedom from her overprotective Alpha Dad Theo and was hoping for a little taste of it at squad training camp. Unfortunately for her, it meant being there with her ex besties, Alpha heir Seb, and Beta heir Ace.
As the story progresses, River has to deal with Seb and Ace, mean girl bs, pack politics (as she is named Alpha heir for her pack), and family drama, not to mention the uncontrollable wolf spirit inside of her. As she goes through all this, she comes to realize Seb and Ace aren't who she thought they'd become.
This was a great choice for the final book of the Shadowed Heirs series. Highly recommend.
Oh how I am going to miss this world but I look forward to cameos in the Windy City series to come. I really struggle to put any book in this series down once I've got going. I loved the return to training camp from where the six pack series had begun. There are great echos of the parents in the children, Ace has the softness & sensitivity to his dad's hardness and intensity, even if he wouldn't admit it himself, he is the glue in this to me that rounds it all out. My only gripe is that the pacing of each book has been a bit predictable across the chapters but it doesn't detract from my love for the characters & stories.
I will always truly love the whole six pack world, no matter what.
I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.
What a way to end the Shadowed Heirs series! CJ always writes beautifully brilliant books, but I swear they just get better and better each and every time. Her ability to completely immerse you into the world of wolf shifters, shifter hunters, and alpha rivalries is unparalleled. And the absolute skill she displayed weaving the love, responsibilities, heartache, and bonds betweeen Ace, River, and Seb was just incredible. The friendship, the banter, the insecurities and internal struggle, the peeks at the six pack alphas and their mates as adults, and teasers of what's yet to come were brilliantly threaded throughout. Such an epic masterpiece! Five glorious stars, once again! See y'all on another page!
