A luxurious mansion. Thirty stunning bachelorettes. One very eligible bachelor. All of the ingredients are in place for a successful reality dating show, and behind the scenes, Tori Winters is set to pull the romantic strings as assistant director of Vows. Despite her distaste for public exhibitions of love—which spelled the death of her last relationship—Tori intends to give the public exactly what they want: scintillating footage of a bevy of beauties vying for the attention of Christopher Caine. But Chris, a consummate Southern gentleman and the star of Vows, seems almost too good to be true—and soon, even Tori finds herself falling under his spell. Despite legal obligations to avoid fraternizing with the talent, it’s clear her feelings are anything but unrequited. With the support of her friends in the Newport Ladies Book Club, Tori must make a life-altering decision: is she willing to jeopardize all she’s worked for in order to embrace her own fairy-tale ending?
Julie Wright wrote her first book when she was fifteen. She's written over twenty novels since then. She is a Whitney Awards winner for best romance with her books Cross My Heart and Lies Jane Austen Told Me, The American Library Association listed “Glass Slippers, Ever After, and Me” in their 2020 top ten best romances and "A Captain for Caroline Gray" in their 2021 top ten best romances.
She has one husband, five kids, two grandbabies, one dog, and a varying amount of houseplants (depending on attrition).
She loves writing, reading, hiking, playing with her kids, and watching her husband make dinner.
I've seen these Newport Ladies Book Club Novels but this is the first one I've read. My plan with this one was to read it here and there while I was reading other books I needed to review. I picked it up one day when I had a lot of free time (thank goodness) and just couldn't put it down! I kept reading one more chapter until I wound up finishing it.
At the beginning of the book, Tori has a boyfriend, Lawrence, and as she's describing him and their relationship, it's pretty obvious that they aren't soul mates. She is mortified when he proposes to her at a packed concert and she runs out on him. After their short conversation the following morning, where he blames her job and book club for her inability to commit, she throws herself into her work to help her move on with her life.
Tori works as an assistant director of a reality TV show. It's called Vows and is similar to The Bachelor. She meets the star of the show, Christopher Caine, and he is dazzling. He also is attracted to her and starts asking around about her. She's not allowed to think of him that way, yet she has to work directly with him, so there are lots of sticky situations for them both.
I loved the romance! Tori and Chris are attracted to each other and they have great chemistry but need to avoid each other, especially as their feelings start becoming obvious to others. Tori needs to decide if she's willing to risk losing all she's worked to achieve for a chance at love and comes across a major wrinkle in her plan, so she might be too late after all.
Because I haven't read any of these books, I don't know how their book club was formed and whether they knew each other beforehand or not. I enjoyed their book discussions and that is an angle that would definitely interest me in reading more of these books. I like how she chose a book that she loved and when she read it again, wondered why she had fallen in love with it the first time around. I've done that before, too, so I could relate to her feelings about that. There's a situation with one of her book club members that she's not sure if she should involve herself, but she does, and it's uncomfortable at times, but she ends up with a stronger relationship at the end of the drama.
This is a clean romance, with humor and friendships and is a lot of fun to read. There are lots of books in this series and they're written by different authors. I like that because it seems that they will all be quite different from each other with the perspective of different people writing them (I'll let you know if that's how I feel after I've read a few of these). This is a great read, especially if you like reality TV, and I highly recommend it!
Victoria’s Promise is the newest addition to the second set of The Newport Ladies Book Club novels. I reviewed Ruby’s Secret earlier this week. As with all of the books in this series I feel like I’m visiting old friends. The only difference is I’m getting to know each character at a new level. So often with friends we many times only see what is at surface level. For example, everyone in the book club thought that Tori lived a very glamorous, Hollywood life. As we read about her story we find that this isn’t the truth. Tori works on the set of a reality TV show called VOWS, much like the Bachelor. She has been doing this particular job for many seasons. The only difference this time is that Tori is starting to fall for the Bachelor, southern gentleman, Christopher Caine. Despite all of her best efforts not to fall in love with Chris, which by the way is against her contract working on the set of this show, she does. What ensues is a story of humor, romance, and taking chances.
As with the other Newport Ladies books, we associate with the other women in the club. This set of novels aren’t all written in the same time period. They are also focusing more on other members of the book club. If you haven’t heard about this series yet, here is a good explanation found on The Newport Ladies Book Club site,
“The Newport Ladies Book Club series is unique in that each Newport book is written from the point of view of a different woman in the book club. The first 4 books cover the same time period and the same book club meetings. But only with reading all 4 books, will you learn the whole story of each of the women and her full character journey. The 2nd set of 4 books covers the next 4 book club meetings. Think of it as a parallel series, not as a forward-moving series.”
Author Julie Wright has written a novel that will make you smile, laugh and also do something to your heart. I could relate to Tori’s insecurities at her job and in finding love. Without giving away the ending, just know that there will be some surprises that will take your breath away. I’ll admit it, I even cried a little. You’ll be happy that you read Victoria’s Promise.
Once again, I love these bachelor-type books, even though I don't watch the show! I've read this whole series and I'm always amazed at the details I learn about each character when a book is focused solely on her.
Victoria (Tori) is a busy girl in the other books. She does something in the television industry and is always on the go, yet in this story, the reader really delves into her personal life. And what a life she leads! She's an assistant director of a reality tv show and against all odds (and legal contracts), she finds herself falling for the bachelor. What's a girl to do?
That bachelor...Christopher Caine. Woo-ee! He's quite the Southern gentleman and definitely comes across as way too good to be true. But who cares, right? He's got it all--the looks, the manners, etc.
I loved Tori! She's so dedicated to her job and cares so much for those around her. She notices that Ilana, from the book club, needs a little extra friendship and extends that hand to her. She befriends Shannon (also from the book club) and doesn't even seem to neglect her best friend or her family!
I love the way she interacts with the bachelorettes. She's pretty much seen it all, so she almost treats them like children. Yet, amid all of her capabilities, I couldn't help but to feel a little sorry for her. Her true feelings bleed through her tough exterior.
I absolutely loved every minute of it and adored the ending! One of my favorites of the series!
Content: clean!
*I received a copy in exchange for an honest review*
This was just okay for me. I liked the story, but to be honest I was a little bored with it. It's probably just me, I know others would really enjoy it. Victoria works for a reality dating TV show. I liked seeing the behind-the-scenes stuff and wondered how much of that was real. To be honest, I didn't feel a lot of chemistry between the H/h. I would have liked to be a part of their conversations more, instead of being told they talked about stuff. There is a lot of inner-dialog (not a favorite for me). It also drives me crazy when two characters are in the middle of a conversation that is interrupted by inner-thought. It disrupts the flow of the conversation. In the end, I wasn't really sure why they loved each other and certainly couldn't understand them actually
Since this is part of a series we see characters from other books and in trying to tie in the book club and those characters it kind of took away from time that could have been better spent building the relationship between Victoria and Chris. But, I'm a romantic at heart and went into it looking for the main focus to be on the love story.
My Favorite in this series. Any reader who watches one of “The Bachelor” shows needs to read this book. Tori Winters is a directors assistant behinds the scenes of a bachelor type show called Vows. She desperately wants to be a screen writer and is working her way up the ladder to do so, she just needs to bide her time and do her job. Make sure all thirty bachelorettes are where they should be when the camera starts rolling isn’t an easy task, nor is trouble shooting on a busy set, but everything is much more complicated when she falls for the one guy she’s contractually forbidden from pursuing, the Bachelor himself. Tori is very well written, between balancing work, with love, and trying to be a better daughter and friend, her interactions with The Newport Ladies Book Club help round her out, and push her toward romance. Christopher Caine is everything The Bachelor should be, smart, funny, considerate, with a southern charm that will make the reader sigh in delight. Their romance builds in the shadows of the set, and with contracts hanging threateningly over their heads, it takes a lot of help from unexpected places for Tori to get her fairy-tale ending, one which every girl would adore. A definite must, read, and then reread again.
Victoria’s Promise by Julie Wright A Newport Ladies Book Club Novel Tori Winters, 2nd assistant director of “Vows” reality television show is surrounded by proposals. Following a poorly inspired marriage proposal from her boyfriend, Lawrence, in front of more than 2000 people at a concert hall, Tori is humiliated and seeks solace in her job as well as the Newport Ladies Book Club. This is all fine and good until she meets the bachelor, Chris Caine. Contracts prevent Chris and Tori from following their hearts. Tori must help Chris propose to the girl of his dreams, as long as that girl isn’t her. When Tori recognizes there is more to her than just a job she can find her happiness. Tori continues to follow her dream of becoming a screenplay writer as well as offering friendship and support to ladies of the book club. “Victoria’s Promise” reminds us that ‘in a world where you can be anything’ the most important thing is to ‘be yourself’. That and find a good spider killer. This is a truly delightful read, with plenty of twists to keep it interesting.
This book is engaging and fun. I was delighted to read Tori's story after seeing how she supports other characters in the Newport Ladies Book club. "Victoria's Promise" is a part of the Newport Ladies Book Club series. It works well as a stand alone book too.
Tori is an Assistant Director on the reality show Vows. Her ambition is to become a screen writer. She is not prepared for the drama that unfolds as she and the bachelor of Vows are drawn toward each other. This is strictly against the contract. She tries desperately to follow the contract only to be disappointed to give up what has become the most important part of her life.
I loved the ending. I kinda saw what what was coming. Still it was big fun and happened in a way I did not expect, with a few twists and turns along the way. The characters were fabulous. I really enjoyed the setting too. It was a truly an enjoyable read.
Victoria's Promise is an excellent addition to the Newport Ladies Book Club series. This book also works well as a stand-alone. Victoria, or Tori, thinks she's ready for a serious relationship, but when her boyfriend proposes, she realizes he is the last man she wants to spend the rest of her life with. Meanwhile, she works on the set of VOWS, a bachelor-dating show... and the more she is attracted to the bachelor, Christopher, the more she tries to avoid him. Because she can not, absolutely not, let herself even like him a little bit. This story is an absolute gem, bringing out the best of Julie Wright's talent for creating fabulous characters. Sweet, humorous, and of course romantic, you won't be disappointed for a second.
Victoria Winters works on the set of the TV show 'Vows'. After two seasons of the show, Tori has decided she doesn't like public displays of emotion and doubts that love found on screen can be real. However, when Christopher Caine - the new bachelor on the show - smiles at Tori, she gets butterflies. Is this love?
This was a fantastic story. Julie Wright delves wonderfully into the world of Tori as she explores the difference between the reality she experiences at work and the reality she craves outside of work. I loved reading about how Tori learns to focus on the important parts of life and remember that being true to herself is the most important thing.
Julie Wright is an excellent author and this book delivers on all of its promises. Wright captures the voice of her character Tori in such a way that she comes to life and you'll feel as if you know her and definitely be rooting for her!
This novel captured my attention from the very beginning. I love the treatment of the "reality TV" shows and how actual reality plays out so much differently. This isn't just a fluffy romance--Tori deals with problems and you can watch the strength of her character in action as she faces hard decisions about several aspects of her life.
There are so many feel-good, laugh-out-loud, and grit your teeth scenes in this book. Read Victoria's Promise if you're in the mood to be delighted by an author who knows how to weave an engaging tale.
I couldn't put this book down. The main character was engaging, funny without trying too hard, and an all around real person you could relate to. I gave it four stars only because I had an issue with the ending, feeling like it was a little rushed and cut off. But other than that, a really nice and modern love story. And if you're a "Bachelor" fan...this is the book for you. It's pretty much dead on as far as I'm concerned, and it's so fun to speculate on the ins-and-outs and production of such a familiar show. This book works well as a stand alone, although now I may have to go back and read the other books in the series because I'm intrigued! Quirky, cute, fun, heart break-y, human, adorable. Love this book!
I fell in love with the Newport series from the moment I read Olivia. I was so excited for Julie Wright's newest contribution to the series to come out, and I wasn't disappointed. This book is full of delicious drama from the very first awkward moments. Loved it!
From fleeing an unwanted public proposal to falling head-over-heels for the one man she can't have, Tori Winters life is definitely complicated. I adored her humor, wit, and strength as she fights for the things she believes she wants most, and equally her sweet realization that perhaps there is more to life than she thought. Tori's struggles with her own insecurities and her eventual triumph had me hooked from the first words.
Victoria's Promise is another great book in the Newport Ladies Book Club series. Tori faces tough decisions as she examines her life from personal relationships to her job. Of course the book choices in the book club guides her soul searching creating opportunities for evaluation and creating friendships along the way.
This book was absolutely awesome! I loved Victoria's story! I have always wondered what it would be like to work on a show dating show. What would it be like to fall in love with the bachelor. This was such a fantastic read I just wanted it to go on. I want to know what happens next. The last story is supposed to come out soon and I can not wait for the next tale!!
I really enjoyed this book. It was fun to get a behind the scenes peek at a reality tv show and I love a happy ending! Even though each book from The Newport Ladies Book Club series could be read as a stand alone book, I bet you can't read just one!
Excellent story. I usually don't like reality-dating show books. But this one is the exception. Loved it! The whole Newport Ladies Book Club series is great. Each character is going through different struggles. Everyone can find something they can relate to.
Not necessarily a guy book by any means, but with the wit and good story it sure can be enjoyed by one. Filled with heart and a great story. I do like romantic comedies and this one fits that bill.
I loved this book like I have enjoyed all the others in this series. Like the other books, they can be read alone and not as a series, but I love how all the characters and story lines tie together. Its so fun (and I'm sure alot more work) that the authors worked together to do that. Victoria-goes by Tori-works for a reality love show called the Vows. Similar to The Bachelor show on Tv. I loved seeing glimpses into her work life and her small personal life and when she went to book club meetings with the other girls. Her last relationship ended badly because she is very consumed in her work and also trying to write in her spare time. She tries to balance her work life and personal life as well as dealing with rejections in this book. I LOVED the ending-totally wasn't expecting it. I wasn't sure honestly if it was going to end well, so I was pleasantly surprised!! This is a good, clean fiction book-no bad language or sex/inappropriate scenes. The story line moves fast enough to keep my attention and I would recommend this book! A+
This was a fun, clean and engaging romance. I would recommend it to anyone. Even my teen daughter. Tori is an assistant on a show called Vows, like the Bachelor. She falls in love with the bachelor, but has signed a contract to stay away from a relationship with him, and so has he. As the finale comes near, Tori is heartbroken to find Chris has already proposed, and is engaged to one of the bachelorettes. Fun ride. great story, and well written. I enjoyed it.
I loved this book. I couldn't put it down. Great as part of the series, or alone. Tori works for a reality TV show called "vows". What happens when she falls in love with the one guy on the show she shouldn't, the bachelor? Does he love her too? Will she lose her career? will he give up everything to break the contract?
