HUNTER S. JONES is the pen name for USA Today best-selling author Deb Hunter. She's also a historical presenter for Past Preservers Casting. When she isn’t writing, talking or tweeting about kings, queens and rock stars, she’s living the dream in Atlanta, Georgia with her Scottish born husband.
Victoria thought the Christmas party would be just like any other, until she meets James Wellington. He has a girlfriend back in the UK, but the two can't resist each other. For Victoria, it's love at first sight, but James makes it clear that despite their mutual attraction, his life is already mapped out and he can't change fate. But fate, and a little Yule magic, have a way of making miracles happen.
Magic in Memphis is one hot short story. The chemistry between James and "Vix" actually had my glasses steaming up, but I also loved how the author weaved in elements of the pagan tradition along with the romance. I enjoyed the back story about Victoria's grandmother teaching her the old ways and her beautiful Yule rituals just as much as I rooted for James and Victoria to find a way to be together. This is one novella that proves there is more than one way to weave a little magic.
Victoria is a corporate professional, good at her job but also loyal to ancient family traditions and rituals. She combines both well until an Englishman steals her heart and changes her forever. I won't say more about the story but I will say that is made me want to be Victoria. I love the way Hunter. S. Jones vividly describes feelings and thoughts. She has a real talent for story telling, leading the reader on gently and filling, me at least, with emotion. A great read.
I needed a book "set in my hometown" for a reading challenge, and as I lived in Memphis for 17 years, I jumped at this one (the small page number helped too). The only good thing about this I can say is that it was only 99 cents, and not a lot of pages. But this title and description is very deceiving. There's no "magic", only about 5 pages happen in Memphis, and it's inside the Peabody Hotel for goodness sake. Really?? Memphis is FULL of a rich and diverse heritage and there is so much that could have been included, but that would have changed the book. (Sorry, personal rant, I love my hometown.) Also, "erotic romance" needs to be removed, unless the definitions have changed. I didn't read anything that made me think of those words. Waking up next to a guy and him popping Altoids in my mouth doesn't exactly scream "romance" to me.
I'm not trying to attack this author personally, she painted a good enough picture that I could see everything in my head. I just don't agree with the word painting that I was reading.
I will end this on a positive note and say thank you to Ms. Chance for helping me look forward to going back there for Christmas this year. That I do appreciate.
After reading the September Stories by Hunter S. Jones, I was curious to read some of her earlier works, something with an erotic twist.
Magic in Memphis is an adorable Happily Ever After novella, based on the Yuletide festival from the Wiccan Calendar. It centers around Atlanta career girl, Victoria Bryant, who is a modern day Wicca practitioner. Victoria's life is happy with few surprises. That is, until she meets gorgeous Englishman James Wellington.
Ms. Jones can certainly conjure up a sexy bad boy. James Wellington will break your heart and talk the pants right off you! The sex scene was perfect, adding the right blend of erotica to the sparks between Victoria and James. This is a beautiful little story that I highly recommend.
