Tales from the Wyldelands #1

Our Immortal Hearts

Rate this book
She is his ruination. He is her salvation.

Destined for death, Rory Alarie’s life has never been her own. As Adelphi’s Sacrifice, every moment of every day is monitored by overbearing guards and a controlling family who will stop at nothing to ensure she remains obedient to the mortal kings. Except Rory harbors a secret--she doesn’t want to die. Not for her family, not for her kingdom, and certainly not so supernatural creatures can be eradicated from Norica.

Famed assassin Quill Godrickson doesn’t kill innocents. Yet when the vampire supreme threatens to kill all those he holds dear if he refuses, he accepts what’s supposed to be his easiest assignment yet--eliminate Adelphi’s Sacrifice before the mortal kings gain more power. However, when Quill arrives in Adelphi, he doesn’t expect to find himself irresistibly drawn to the one he’s meant to assassinate.

As Rory and Quill are caught between duty, desire, and death, it is Rory who must choose her final path: reluctantly die as Adelphi’s Sacrifice or allow Quill to turn her into one of the creatures she was raised to hate.

From Blood and Ash meets A Discovery of Witches in this seductive, heart-pounding standalone romantasy. With steamy romance, glittering magic, a sexy vampire love interest who embodies "touch her and die," and mind-blowing twists, Our Immortal Hearts is perfect for fans of Rebecca Yarros, Carissa Broadbent, and Jennifer L. Armentrout.

DNF @16%. Barely any lust at all and fated mates is already being thrown around. I'm not buying it, sorry.

4🌶️ this was such a fun and easy read! a perfect spicy lil treat after Onyx. the world building was complex but not at all difficult to follow or digest. the romance was so SWEET. omg, i just love a good insta love and add in fated mates and i’m a goner. he fell first and fell harder. an angel man on the inside and morally grey on the outside. this had so many of my fav tropes, including found family which i was not expecting but LOVED!

What an absolutely lovely fated mates standalone romantic fantasy with spice!

The premise is a young woman who has been raised to be a sacrifice to the gods, with a limited life but plenty of sass at times! Quill is the vampire assassin sent to kill the sacrifice to ensure political upheaval… but with a twist..

The story that ensues is what happens when they cross paths and their journeys to right the wrongs against them.

A great action and spice packed story with lots to enjoy.

This was an arc read, and this is my honest review!

I am absolutely FLOORED. Gutted. Sobbing. Obsessed.

This is more than just a smutty vampire book (but believe me it is hottttt). Our Immortal Hearts was so romantic and full of action. And the found family element got me emotional on more than one occasion. This book was actually, maybe, probably written just for me? Lara, please confirm if this is the case.

Rory and Quill are just… mmmmm…*chefskiss*. I especially love that Rory isn’t just some damsel in distress. She’s a damsel. She is often in distress. But she can handle this (yes, that was a Disney Hercules reference I just made, but it fits). And she’s not afraid to talk to Quill openly and honestly and to call him out when he’s being evasive, which I LOVE!

And Quill. Serious, protective, sexy Quill. We love him for all of his devotion and admiration of Rory, but we also also love him for his willingness to trust Rory and for his love of his kindred.

While this is technically a standalone, Lara said there will be a second book within this universe/characters, and I can’t wait to see whose story is told next (fingers crossed for Carver)!

Anyway, I’ll just be over here daydreaming about some of these quotes, but especially, “I choose you, now and every life hereafter.” I am obsessed with these two. 🥺

Thank you to the author, Lara Buckheit, for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This was a 5 star read for me, and I need a physical copy to hold in my hands and reread again and again. I highly recommend for all of my supernatural romance book lovers!

P.S. It comes out on Tuesday, March 19th, 2024!

what a guilty little pleasure read with sexy vampires who lack any self control (sexually), found family, fated mates, lots of spice, and PLOT TWISTS

this was such a fun standalone read, with an fmc who was born to die and an mmc who was sent to kill her and THEY WERE FATED MATES ahhhh i loved this! from the first sentence I was hooked and the pacing of the story was so good and quick and made it so easy to stay engaged and entertained!

it hurt my soul a little bit watching Rory adjust to her new life and seeing how her past life hurt and broke parts of her, but LOVED getting to see her mate and new family give her the safety, comfort, and love to grow into whoever she wants to become - free from her "destiny"

this man, this MALEEEEEEE, Quill never stood a chance. Man was GOB SMACKED from the second Rory started talking to him and was a goner ever since, we love when strong scary man TUMBLES head over heels for a woman and gives her the space and comfort to become whoever she wants to be and encourages her to make decisions for herself, when she was never able to in her past.

Do i wish we could have seen that sh*t head of a king get his due? yes absolutely BUT knowing Rory is free and happy and in love is closure enough (even tho that last fight scene was low key gut wrenching) for the crap her sister and father put her through

if you want a lil smutty vampire book that gives you a feel good HEA - I HAVE A REC FOR YOU

thanks for the gifted copy Lara! you are amazing and I can't wait to read the rest of your work

Thank you to Lara Buckheit for providing this ARC!

I loved this author's debut novel and she has hit it out of the park again! Our Immortal Hearts isn't your typical vampire romance. It's got plenty of intrigue and monster politics woven into a fated mates romance with a hot vampire MMC and a death-defying FMC.

As always, Lara's characters are messy and complex without being overly complicated. The pacing is quicker than typical fantasy reads, which I actually love because sometimes I feel overwhelmed with the intricate, convoluted world building and slow burn of other fantasy series.

This one is a bit spicier than her first book, but not so much that it takes away from the overarching story. It's very tasteful while still being steamy.

This one stands on its own and there is no cliffhanger, but I am really looking forward to the next book in this series because there are so many different character/creatures with more stories to tell.

Just finished our immortal hearts and it’s good! I enjoyed it. Really simple read and while it’s predictable it feels like a good brain free fantasy with vampires. The world building could have been better but even though there is some violence and some stakes, it doesn’t feel high stakes.
I was worried about it being a fast burn but the author did a really good job at giving us a good reason why it’s a fast burn and it works really well with the characters needs at the moment it happens. It’s instalove but it’s fated mates which again is on par with a good reason for the instalove.
I feel like while the mmc is hot I would have liked him a bit more developed. I also would have liked more info on the side characters but they were all pretty great.
The pacing was good, the story was fun, the spice was a little repetitive but it was okay.

This book was such a fun fast read, it was completely full of vibes and lots of spicy moments that I absolutely loved.

Everything flowed so well the story, characters, romance and spice. The world building was so easy to understand and follow along and there were no slow moments at all it moved at a fast pace.

Rory was such a great character and I felt so much sympathy for her and the situation she was in. The found family was perfect and gave me so many feelings always love how it adds to the story and it really did in this book.

Rory and Quill were just perfect I loved their chemistry as well as the rather hot spicy moments, got to love a hot protective vampire mmc 🫠 🥵

I loved that it was such an exciting book to read and Lara’s writing is absolutely beautiful I can’t wait to read more stories set in this world.

This has to be one of the easiest five stars I’ve given a standalone vampire book! I highly recommend if you’re looking for a really good fun, fast book with the most delicious spice!

Thank you so much to the author for a arc this is my honest and voluntary review.

What a bloody treat. (Arc Review)

This was everything and more. Vampire books are so hit or miss, for me at least. It's either a blood play smut fest with no plot or it's just a snooooze. Our Immortal Hearts was not a miss. Lara really balances the spice, romance and story so well. The plot kept me intrigued, the romance kept me swooning and the spice was a nice cherry on top. I really enjoyed Lara's writing.

Rory is such a good character. I really felt sympathy for her and her situation. The found family trope really binds everything together and gave me so many feels.

A super solid standalone vampire romance. If there are more stories in this universe I'll def be reading them.

I knew when I saw Lara posting about her upcoming release Our Immortal Hearts that I had to get myself on the arc list. The blurb, the cover everything screamed at me that I needed this story in my life!
I'd like to say a huge thank you to Lara for providing me the arc.
As always my review is my own opinion

I instantly fell in love with the characters. Rory's upbringing made me ache.
Quill, Quill oh Quill...where do I get one?
The story is fantastically written and the spice oh the spice....it's spicy guys and I'm here for it.

There's loads I want to say but I don't want to spoil anything. I loved this story and You all need this in your life!

ARC review, no spoilers!!

If you're into vampires, found family, & some good ole fashioned spice...READ THIS BOOK!!!!

I am normally not one to read fantasy books of this caliber (vampires, werewolves, etc) but this caught my eye from the beginning. I was fortunate enough to get on the ARC list and when I tell you I ATE this up.

The story itself is well written and keeps you on the edge from the very beginning. The romance is *chefs kiss* and the ENDING.

I don't want to say too much because I feel like I will accidentally put a spoiler in. Also, it isn't released just yet, so we got to save some mystery ;)

But ADD THIS TO YOUR TBR!! Cannot wait for the series to continue. Fantastic job Lara!!

"Our Immortal Hearts" by Lara Buckheit is a fantastic blend of romance, fantasy, and spice that I devoured as fast as possible. The world-building is rich and easy to follow, with an array of intriguing creatures such as fae, shifters, sirens and vampires (of course). Lara's storytelling keeps the pace fast and exciting, ensuring there's never a dull moment.

Lara did a great job really making me hate Rory's family from the start. The dynamic between our fated mates, the Adelphi's sacrifice (Rory god damn it) and the vampire assassin, adds layers of tension and passion throughout the whole book. Their journey to defy fate and right the wrongs against them is both thrilling and heartwarming. Plus, the smutty romance doesn't hurt and made this a real page-turner. 🥵🥵

Overall, "Our Immortal Hearts" was great, and I am looking forward to seeing what else comes out of this world!

Oh Godricks D 🤭
Our Immortal Hearts is going straight to my “best vamp romances” shelf because I have to own a physical copy as well.
Right amount of sex. Characters evolve and act as adults. (Which is amazing I hate kids in big bodies.)
Story was even better! From the very beginning I fell in love with all characters.
If someone asks what is my style it’s this book.
Need more stories from this amazing world. From now on, Lara B. please count me as your huge fan !

*I received an ARC and am giving my honest review*

⭐️ REVIEW:
Addicted. Absolutely addicted to this story as much as Rory and Quill are addicted to each other. Rory’s entire upbringing left my blood boiling and I cheered for her through out the entire story. Quill’s determination to better things, too? This man is perfection. The spice was absolutely HOT! Least favorite character was Vivian… IYKYK. Also, Carver? Absolutely hilarious. My third favorite character! I loved them all!

This book was fun and pure vibes.

Synopsis:
Rory was born to die. She was born to be her kingdom’s sacrifice - by her sisters hand. So her sister can come fully into her power. But then Rory meets Quill - a vampire assassin - and her world is turned upside down.

My Thoughts:
I had a lot of fun reading this one. It was a fun vampire romantasy. Quill and Rory were precious and I just wanted to hug them both.

The magic system could use some more explaining, but it was a fun light read and a perfect romantasy read for novice fantasy readers.

What You’ll Find in This Book:
🩸 Vampires, Witches, Fae, Sirens
🩸 Instalove
🩸 Fated Mates
🩸 Found Family
🩸 Quick fantasy read
🩸 Mind Flirting

Our Immortal Hearts was a fast, fun, smutty and total vibes book that I ate up! The world building was easy to understand/follow and the pacing was exciting and fast! Definitely not the kind of book you could ever get bored in and perfect for romance readers looking to start dabbling in fantasy IMO. And the smut 👀 just kept coming 🌶️.

I LOVE all the possibilities in this world the multiple creatures allow (ie sirens, fae, vampires, humans) and lately I’m super appreciating standalone books set in the same ‘world’ like OIH!

I’ll be over here impatiently waiting for the fae book! 😍🥵

Guys... Holy Moly I absolutely demolished Our Immortal Hearts by Lara Buckheit. I could not get enough of it. If you love romatasy's that are spicy from the get go (I usually love a slow burn but Buckheit has converted me to an instant love fan), found family, vampire romance, fated mates you need to read this book! Even if you don't love those things, YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK!!

While this book is quite spicy, it also gives us so much more than that, the spice never takes away from the plot, only makes it so much greater! Rory and Quill are both badasses in their own right and together they are epic! Rory was raised to be a sacrifice her whole life, but she plans on fighting this destiny right until the very end.. Cue the sexy vampire assassian... ;) The plot is fast paced, well written and the world building is thorough but easily to comprehend as a reader.

There are more than just vampires in this universe and a multitude of amazing side characters that add to the plot and make you love the main FMC and MMC even more. This book is a standalone (devasted by this).. BUT I believe we may be seeing further books that are connected to side characters from this story!

What a great fast-paced standalone with likable characters, an engaging plot, steamy spice, and endearing found family.

The world here is unique, but this book didn’t feel like it carried a great burden building it. We get enough details to immerse us fully, but the romance and characters remain the focus. Rory and Quill have great chemistry from the first meeting, and while this is a fast-burn-fated-mates type romance, it doesn’t feel disingenuous or like it’s resting on the mate bond to carry it. Their chemistry feels authentic, and the progression of their love story makes sense.

Rory is likable, with a tragic past and present, and her easy adaptability and gentle nature make her easy to root for. Quill is the typical broody centuries-old vampire but he is dealing with some trauma and has a good heart. He’s a total cinnamon roll with Rory, and it’s nice to see him soften for her and embrace the bond. The found family is amazing, the kindred adding so much to the story that I hope they each get their own books in the future! I loved how quickly Rory was accepted into the group and how amazing that unwavering platonic love was between them all. Some of the other supremes were interesting as well and I know Riven’s story is up next and I can’t wait to see what the arrogant, unbothered but secretly complex fae king has in store for us.

All in all a great romantasy read with fast-paced plot, good writing making it easy to devour in just a few sittings, and extremely likable characters you’ll be rooting for. The spice was pretty 🥵 and the banter among the found family was top notch. 4⭐️!
