I didn't realize how short this book was until after I finished it.

Fortune Calling was a pretty good book. I absolutely loved Dallas so freaking much. This book is definitely about finding her place in life after being so lost for so long. I loved watching her grow and find who she really was. I seriously can't wait to read the next book - I just hope it's a lot longer than this one!

As per usual I had no trouble getting into a book written by Hunter S Jones. It is again very skilfully written. Even with the Southern vernicular used, it read easy. To be honest the Southern drawl was one of the reasons it appealed even more, made it even more real so to speak.
It's only a short short, and there's a very open end, which I''m normally not a real fan of, but in this case the open end had a feel of closure to it.

It's funny and captivating, the main character is a woman I could relate to and the choices she makes are very in character.

I will look forward to the next installment in this series.

Fortune Calling (The Fortune Series,#1) by Hunter S Jones is a heart-warming contemporary romance set in the harsh music world. The author pulled me in from the first chord and filled every page with notes both high and low to compose a masterful C&W operetta worthy of the Grand Ole Opry.
Dallas Fortune (love this name) struggles to make a name for herself in the brutal world of C&W. She can play a guitar with the best of them, but guitarists are a dime a dozen. Then one day she discovers a mandolin and her fortune changes in more ways than she could ever wish for.
Dallas falls in love with the hottest name in the business and plays in his band. She is also befriended by the biggest name ever who plays her fairy Godmother. But as often happens, it all comes crumbling down.
Alone and jobless, Dallas drifts along until she sees a neon sign that calls to her. She enters the shop and has her fortune read.
Will the cards put Dallas back onto the road to fortune, will her love life finally get put on track. The cards tell her something amazing, so read this wonderful book to find out.
A FIVE STAR drama/romance for all lovers of life music and fortunes waiting n the wings. Highly recommended.

This short story was an experience for me. I usually read big chunky books but decided to give this a go, thinking it would be a small story in a small book. I was wrong. Hunter. s. Jones is a very talented writer who describes inner feelings and scenes with great visual aplomb.
Her story melted my heart. Dallas is a character who has a great big story behind her. Her love for a man, who in my opinion is not good enough for her, is indicative of many unrequited or selfish love stories in this real world we live in. I felt her heart strings tug between an, almost obsessive love for a man, to the reality of the man's behaviour. She describes her passions and her dreams to the extent that she has left me wanting more; wanting to read more about the Character, Dallas Fortune. This, for me is the greatest gift a book, no matter how long or short, can give me, for it means I loved every minute reading it.

Five entertaining stars to this FUN read!

I'll start by saying that I did NOT want this book to end! It's a refreshingly entertaining musical mystery tour of a gal by the name of Dallas Fortune. She's a fun loving, down on her luck mandolin player who takes a chance on a hunch she's got about learning what's in store for her within the cards of a fortune teller. Yep, that chance turn into the parking lot begins the story of what I hope will be followed up with a sequel. You'll come away smiling after you read this book....you can bet your honky tonkin' bottom dollar!
So, tell me Hunter Jones, WILL there be a sequel? Please tell me "Yeah, hell yeah" ;)

This short story was fascinating to me. I enjoyed the insight offered into the Nashville music scene as well as the look into the hardships still found in America’s Appalachia.

Dallas Fortune is a character that is looking inside to find the answers to questions so many women face as they mature and find that life isn’t exactly what they planned.

The story line is unique, Billie Joe is a heart breaker and Ernesto is perfecto. I look forward to the next story in this series.

I have read some of this author's previous works, and the one thing that makes me pick up her books is the way that Hunter S.Jones seems to identify with the character. It is a bit like looking into the author's soul. How many of us have felt entirely hopeless and then have a kind of chance come along giving us a gentle nudge and pushing us along? It's like having an angel sitting on one shoulder and a naughty imp on the other. One keeps playing tricks on you and when you're completely shattered and broken, the angel gives you a hand.

I was able to relate to the character of Dallas as she struggles through the mire of life. It's real life and reality sucks most of the time but life's never perfect, is it? The author conveys this in an almost lyrical way and the character comes to life brilliantly.
A great read!

I LOVED this short by Hunter S. Jones. She never fails at captivating me with her words. She has a way of writing that makes me feel like I'm right there living the story. As a southern girl this story really spoke to me. I love Tennessee, always have so this story takes me right back to the state I love. This short is the beginning of this series and it couldn't have started better. We meet Dallas as she battles with her future. I find myself relating to her as she struggles with her inner demons. I cannot wait to see where Hunter takes us with this series. Bring on more!! Oh and P.S. Absolutely LOVE the cover! Beautiful!

Fortune Calling is the first story in The Fortune Series, The Story of Dallas Fortune. Dallas is an interesting character. We meet her on an introspective day. She decides to have her fortune read and I won't tell you the outcome but it is heart warming and reminds us to always follow what our instincts and our hearts tell us to do.

The peek into Nashville's music scene makes you, the reader, feel like an insider to a city and industry that have captured the world's attention. For a short story, Dallas, her long time love for Billie Joe and her new flirtation with Ernesto left me looking forward to the next story in this series.

Poignant and Uplifting!
In this excellent short story, the author manages to weave self-help, relationship advice, and life lessons into a beautiful reading moment, filled with vivid imagery and honest emotion. The story is a fast read, which is good because once you get started you won’t want to stop until it is done. As is only true for the best of stories, this one feels very real, as if it is the author’s own personal life rather than a character’s. In only twenty some odd pages you grow to know and love this character. Although the story is quite complete and stand alone, I am now quite invested and would like to know what happens next in her life.

"Fortune Calling" is a touching story that called to me. The author has a real talent for telling a story in an almost poetic way. The feelings related are clear and precise and in telling this story there is an ease that made me not want to stop reading. I could relate to some of the inner-struggles and was moved by the emotions shared.

"Getting back in the car, I notice the sun beginning to set over the mountain. Somewhere, a log is burning, the sweet cedar wafting through the damp air. Life goes on, they say, so it will, even after him.
Tina sang "What's Love Got to Do with It?" softly in the background. I drove on toward the farm."

"Fortune Calling" by Hunter S. Jones is a short novel the first in a series, and it depicts a central moment in of Dallas Fortune, a musician in Tennessee, who is at a decisive moment in her private life and in her musical career.
The descriptions of the music scene, Dallas' talent and ambition (or lack of) bring immediate depth to an otherwise casual appearing plot. A fortune telling moves things forward and the future holds unexpected events.
Dallas is an engaging central character and her story is equally captivating. I loved this story.

Hunter S. Jones strikes again with "Fortune Calling," a short piece set against the Nashville music scene. One of the most interesting things about this writer is the breadth and depth achieved. Each piece is tailored to the subject; each story has its own "voice."

Having some experience with the Nashville music scene and players in general, I highly recommend this if you wonder why musicians love what they do and write love songs to prove it...

Find this writer early and gobble up all every bit you can find. You'll be the better for it.

Hunter Jones is able to engage and interest you with only a few words where most authors require many. There's a simplicity to her writing that quickly draws you in as a reader and makes you want to know more about her characters. Miss Fortune's life isn't exactly what she wanted while also not exactly what she doesn't. This opener leaves the possibilities open and points out that in the end the only thing truly standing in a person's way is themselves.

I loved this. My only complaint is that it ended too soon.

I loved even the name of our protagonist and story teller, Dallas Fortune. What an awesome name! You learn about Dallas and the misfortune that befell her as a guitarist, the love affair she had with a hot vocalist name Billie Joe, and you want to know even more by the time this short story reaches its end and Fortune's luck has taken a... very fortunate turn for the better.

seriously amusing!

The first book of Dallas Fortune was a great short read. You can easily hear Dallas's voice in your head as you read and picture the scene through the tone of Ms. Jones' writing.

A story of trying to find herself again and decide on a direction in life, help and encouragement come from an unusual place. A definite reminder that belief can always be found as long as we look.

Another great read by Hunter Jones. It was short and sweet. A woman who needed to find herself and depend on no one but herself to get her life good again. Can't wait to read what's next in the Fortune Series.

I picked this up for just .99 and I have to say - I definitely got the better end of the deal. This is a short & sweet read where the reader gets to meet Dallas and learn of her colorful background, how she got where she is today and get a peek at what might be in store for her… the book hooked me and left me wanting more. Thank goodness the next book is available.

It’s got a beautiful cover and is professionally edited and formatted. Where else can you get a good time for just .99 and hour? Definitely will be looking for more from Jones.

This book is filled with so many amazing lines, despite being short - I couldn’t help but note the brilliance of Jones and the fact that writing is absolutely what she should be doing.
Recommend. 4 stars.
