Kandi McQueen was done with him. Now, Jazz Lewis wants her back.
She’d convinced herself she’d be fine without him ever coming back into her life after he dropped her without an explanation years ago. Then, halfway into her senior year of high school, he does just that. Now, Jazz is the lead singer of Transient Creatures, an up-and-coming rock band that has the potential to make it big. While Kandi is worried that the Jazz she knew disappeared along with his presence long ago, Jazz can still read Kandi like all the classic novels they bonded over when they were kids.
When Kandi and Jazz reconnect, Kandi is thrust into Jazz’s world of living under the blinding lights of the stage, and all the vices that go with it. Now, Kandi must decide if Jazz Lewis is worth breaking the rules for.
B.G. Wolfe writes steamy romance that will make you cry, curse, and leave you smiling. As a pansexual author faced with mental health challenges, B.G.'s main goal is to write diverse characters with the hopes that readers won't feel isolated as they navigate the ups and downs of daily life.
B.G. lives in her hometown of Tallahassee, Florida with her partner, spirited daughter, and a small zoo of pets that keeps her on her toes. When she's not writing, she can often be found binging True Crime, working out in the garden, or eating whatever cheese she can find in her fridge.
I have no intentions of just being your friend...or just being someone you fuck around with.
I have been not so patiently waiting for this book ever since BG started teasing it, and boy was it worth the wait! It was angsty and raw and utter crack for my brain. Here I was thinking nothing could top the angst of April Renegade but BG really said nope and broke me with Jazz and Kandi! I love coming of age books when done well, and this one was truly beautiful.
First of all, I LOVED how the lyrics Jazz wrote had some of my favourite classic novels hinted within, it made them feel all that much deeper and real, and now I wish Transient Creatures was real so I could go fangirl over them in person!
Second, Kandi McQueen. Best FMC I have read in SO long! She had such a depth to her, she tugged at my heartstrings and had me wishing I could protect her from the world. Her and Jazz have the best connection from when they were young and nothing can top it for either of them, and I feel they would be one of those couples that would be soulmates til the end of time.
Overall this book was written so well, it flowed really good and the spice was the perfect balance to plot, and I am determined to get this in paperback once it goes live because it was so darn good!

It seems like the song could be about anyone. But... I also saw the way he was talking ton you at the party. The way he was looking at you. Like someone he thought he's lost had finally been returned.

I enjoyed this story was so much. B. G. Wolfe captured the essence of how love can completely consume you without you even realising.
This was a truly epic coming of age love story, with high angst and some serious subjects that may be triggering for some. BG is such a great ambassador for mental health, she really opened my eyes to the magnitude of what some people have to deal with on a daily basis.
Kandi and Jas were best friends from a young age (although Jas is a couple years older). When Kandi turns 14 Jas removes himself from her life and Kandi is left heartbroken. They reconnect not long before her 18th birthday and it’s a serious whirlwind from there, especially when Transient Creatures start to really takeoff.
These characters have so much depth and have been written with so much care and understanding that my mind boggles at how BG manages it. This book broke but in true BG fashion it put me back together again.
It was so great to hear from some old friends (Ash & Drew) it gave me all the warm and fuzzies.
In short I highly, highly recommend Transient Creatures
“I have no intentions of just being your friend or just being someone you fuck around with. Unless that’s what you want?” -Jazz
“My love for this man in front of me has never once faltered. When I think back to our time on tour, yeah, it was disastrous—especially near the end—but I never once questioned his love for me, or that he was using so often on purpose. Even through all of my disappointment and frustration, I knew he didn’t have control over it. I knew he was sick.” -Kandi
“…he is abusing the love you have for him.” -Ash
No. I am not crying as I write this review. You are hallucinating it all.
I read this book last summer but never wrote the review. I did make notes, so yay for that. While reading over them, all the emotions started coming back. My favorite scenes started to play out in my head which had me falling in love with Jazz and Kandi all over again. It also has me wanting to reread their story.
This was insanely beautiful. The two were childhood friends who used to read Jane Austen to each other while laying in the hammock in the backyard for crying out loud. Their first date is something I will be jealous of for years to come. Seeing them become more then friends then figuring out how life together was going to work had me on the edge of my seat. Or was that the promise of my favorite boys coming in for a cameo? 😉
No, really. Even if Ash and Drew were only mentioned in this story, this story would still be glorious. Jazz and Kandi captivated me. I wanted to know how they were going to attack the world together. There were tears, excitement, and bad words brought out because of the events coming off the pages. The highs and lows they faced made for a story that will break you heart, then gently put it back together.

I loved this!
It was a bit difficult to relate to the characters, though that was expected as I'm 25 and they're 18 and 21. However, the great way in which this is written really keeps you invested in the story.
The character development was great, especially for Kandi. I understood and really appreciated her struggle with her teenager-becoming-an-adult rebellion, as I'm sure that's something we've all been through, especially if you were ever considered a "gifted kid."
I love Kandi and Jazz's relationship from the beginning. Their friendship was amazing, with Jazz always being there for and protecting Kandi. I love that they connected over books and reading, and that his passion for literature continued into his songwriting. The references were all fantastic, even if I did admittedly have to look up a few (classic literature afficionado, I am not).
Wolfe really did a great job with Kandi and Jazz figuring out their life after Kandi's graduation. Balancing getting ready for college and going on tour is not easy, I'm sure, but it was portrayed really well.
Overall, this is a great coming-of-age story mixed with a friends-to-lovers, second chance(ish?) romance that I love and would definitely recommend!
I loved our MFC, we have a good girl gone bad done in a very refreshing way because she's not coming from a traumatic past or abusive family that lead her to make that change she's dealing with mental health issues and the way her anxiety and overthinking was written felt real I loved that on page we see all the things she's thinking that could go wrong, all the intrusive thoughts and also we see her trying to come back from that and make a conscious effort not to let those bad thoughts guide her decisions
she's overthinking and questioning everything but she's voicing it out, she's actually asking questions even if it's making it obvious how naive she is or if people might judge her because she's having these thoughts
we see her change, we see a lot of bad decisions because she's young (consequences? what are those?) and wants to break free and experience new things
and we have our MMC who's the lead singer in a band that's getting popular and trying to get a record deal we have the badass outfits, tattoos and piercings, the attitude... some toxic vibes I absolutely love that we have lyrics for each chapter and the way they were done, it was very creative 💛
we also see the April Renegade guys in a few scenes 💛 and I was fangirling just like our characters were when they met them

Read as an ebook! (Was given an arc…v obviously didn’t finish it in the arc window tho LMAO) 5/5⭐️
Being able to watch BG Wolfe’s writing improve book to book is insane and so so wonderful to see. I thought April Renegade was well written but this? This was soooooo so well done.
Kandi is freshly 18 and Jazz Lewis is barreling back into her life after leaving her years ago with no explanation. I usually find it hard to believe that characters have years of familiarity under their belt in situations/books like this but you could tell so easily and so quickly the history that these two shared. There was a knowing between them—you could see it from their first interaction.
Their romance was intoxicating, as was their story. The anxiety and addiction representation were tasteful and done with care. The smut was smutting. The HEA was fought for, hard.
BG broke my heart and put it back together within three chapters. (I was reading TC while getting and texting her and at the 80% mark she said “sorry for what’s about to happen” and I almost had an anyurism but it’s fineeeeee everything worked outttt).
Overall, 5/5 stars. Her writing is phenomenal, her stories are entrancing, her characters are human and I will forever and always pick up anything she writes (not just bc she’s a friend).
I was sent this book in exchange for a review but my review is not influenced by that.
I enjoyed the book overall. I am not a huge fan of high school romances however I enjoy coming of age stories. The main character Kandace McQueen starts off as “the perfect daughter” and valedictorian as she tires to keep up with her parent’s expectation for her potential. The book focuses on her trying to figure out what she wants from life.
Jasper Lewis, the main love interest, makes the near perfect catalyst for Kandace’s exploration of the life she wants. He is flawed and lost and they help each other grow.
The writing of this book flows well. I found myself constantly picking it back up both because it is a nice way to waste some time but I so badly wanted to see what was going to happen.
The book has spice. The author walks a decent line of balance between smut and story telling. I love romance books but can take or leave spice over all. It didn’t distract from the story and it didn’t feel like it was soul purpose either.
I greatly appreciate the author not using misunderstanding between the couple to create story extending roadblocks. The obstacles the couple faced were realistic and fit the story.
I would recommend this book to any person that just wants a good character development story that any 30 something could identify with.
📖 BOOK REVIEW 📖 Transient Creatures by B.G. Wolfe ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️
Theme: Romance, MF, Rockstar Romance, Coming Of Age, Mental Health Rep, Addiction & Recovery
Y’all. The chokehold this book had on me 😭❤️ I’m 100000% biased because BG & I go way back to our college days but this is her best one yet.
This is a coming of age romance centered around Kandace (Kandi) & her longtime friend Jasper (Jazz). The two have the quintessential friends to distanced to lovers romance. Jazz is a frontman for Transient Creatures, an up and coming rock band. When they get signed by a label and are given a huge opportunity to tour, Jazz and Kandi must make some huge choices about their future. Kandi is in her senior year of high school and set to attend NYU in the fall semester. The book deals with heavy hitting themes that span the rockstar life over generations. It begs to answer the age old question “is love enough?”
Just released today & seriously a WINNER 👏🏻👏🏻 I’m so proud of you @author_bgwolfe 😭 from bathtubs in old college buildings to being a 5 time published author. This is your year babe. This is your year ❤️
“I have no intentions of just being your friend or just being someone you fuck around with. Unless that’s what you want?”-Jazz
Transient Creatures is a heart gripping story. A coming of age romance with very real dark issues many young adults in today's society often deal with but get overlooked and brushed under a rug. This story was relatable with characters reminding me how hard being a young adult can be for many people. The pressure of dealing with anxiety and depression, family issues that are out of one's control, and the pressure of planning for the unknown future were displayed within these pages. Written in a way that draws you in and you felt like you were holding hands with Kandi, the main female character, as she journeys through the struggles between loving someone and loving herself. I highly recommend this book. It is an emotional rollercoaster that will not be easily forgotten.
The writing style is captivating. Wolfe knows how to draw you into a story.
Kandi is the good girl, doing everything everyone expects of her. She is top of her class, has good friends, and is hopelessly falling for the boy from her past.
Jazz brings Kandi into his orbit after her breakup with his younger brother. She is finally old enough that he can date and not hide his feelings for the girl he's loved since they were kids. Jazz also has habits that are hard to break, and pushes Kandi to join him in rebellion.
Very much a teenage story, with adult moments. It was hard at time to relate to the characters because I can't identify them. But Wolfe's writing kept me reading. It made up for that feature with me.
I didn't read April Renegade, but I can see the allure. It it's anything like this book, I will recommend it.
This was a very emotional roller coaster for me as I read this. I absolutely loved this story though . I loved everything about it even if I learned I have triggers. I didn’t think I did till I related so much to the main fc & her struggle with her parents. I went through that stuff & reading about it tugged my heartstrings I had to actually walk away for a day & come back. I got through the entire book & I’m glad I did. I was really hoping the two characters would come together at the end after having to walk away from each other. I don’t know what I would have done or felt if they didn’t. Phew! 😅 All in all, amazing read & I highly recommend this book. I love a good rockstar book!
Whoa. I was a little out of with Kandi being 17 at the beginning of the book. But her birthday? Their first date? The whole rest of the book?! WHOA.
Tropes: Rockstar/Best Friend Romance Second Chance Coming of Age Angsty/Toxic af 👀
But I absolutely loved all the songs, lyrics, and quotes that were included in this story. It brought it all to life and definitely added to the vibe of the whole story. I loved every moment.
I fully believed in Jazz and Kandi’s love story. It was sweet, and it was hot, I was looking over my shoulder hoping no one was reading what I was reading. This was such a beautiful coming of age story set against a back drop of rock and roll, there was no sugar coating how messy of a world it can be and I didn’t feel rushed, although I knew what was coming I couldn’t help but root for this couple. It was so fun seeing ash and drew back too.
Really enjoyed this! Read in one sitting. A bittersweet story of angst ridden teenage love and how we can become so enraptured with another person it can lead metaphorically and literally to our self destruction. The author accurately portrays the gritty and savage side to anxiety and the realities of dealing with mental health. Have instantly downloaded April Renegade to read next!
I had extremely high expectations for B.G. Wolfe's Transient Creatures because I had fallen in love with her writing when I first read her A Mare's Nest Series, and she did not disappoint. This author uses words in such a remarkable way that you really experience every emotion from beginning to end. My emotional little heart loved this book so much.
This book was written really well. I loved the chemistry between Jazz and Kandi. Their spark and drama kept me on my toes, and I was so intrigued with the blurb. I am so glad I picked this up, it is a true coming of age story about being open, raw and vulnerable.
This book has a little bit of everything!! That fairytale love that blossoms then you’re hit with the real world that my opinion so many books are lacking. I loved how she gives real life situations that pulls at the readers heart strings. Also it’s neat to have so much music included into the book, makes you feel like you’re in their world.
When she says this book is angsty she means it. It brings you right back to high school and the way it feels to finally let go a little, and then take it too far. It was hot when it needed to be hot and intense when it needed to be intense. The beginning and ending were great. Definitely a must read.
Amazing coming-of-age M/F with insane spice levels and mental health representation. The ending was a little more telling than showing and felt rushed, but I. Could. Not. Put. It. Down! I ended up staying up until 4:30am to finish this little gem and it took me back to feeling like an 18 year old. Amazing writing.
Coming of age romances aren't usually my thing but Transient Creatures was done sooo well and tastefully! I was consumed by Jazz and Kandi's story. And I felt all the anxiety, grief, ups and downs right alongside Kandi. And Jazz's lyrics?? Just wow! I definitely recommend this book!
I loved the way i could relate to the characters as well as the overall story. It was very interesting and kept me intrigued throughout the entire book. I highly recommend reading this!! 🖤
I liked this book. The characters were well written and I loved seeing Ash and Drew again! I look forward to reading more from B.G. also the literary quotes were a nice touch 🥰
I loved this book! Transient Creatures is incredibly well written and the characters feel very realistic and easy to relate to! I look forward to reading many more books from B.G Wolfe in the future
“Kiss me for luck?” Jazz asks softly, leaning over the center console that divides us. I make a hmm and then nod. “I’ll always kiss you for good luck,” I say. His eyes light up at my words. Jazz inches into me slowly, until I can’t take it anymore. I place my hands on either side of his face and pull him in for a soft and tender sweep of lips.’
BG Wolfe develops the story of band member Jasper Lewis and the girl he desperately desires, with their teenage highs and lows creating the tumultuous beat of their hearts in Transient Creatures.
Youthful friendships transform into teen angst, with evolves into the consequences of actions. But the steady thrumming of two hearts in love help these two find their way together.
Wolfe does an amazing job showing how thin the line can be between having fun enjoying life for the first time as a young adult and unintentionally crossing boundaries (or avoiding red flags). There were heart wrenching moments I just wanted to scream at Kandi to open her eyes and see what’s happening, and other times I was so happy for her and Jazz’s relationship. Wolfe kept me guessing at how the story and ending would unfold. I enjoyed the literary quotes throughout Jazz’s songs, and overall the book is well written.
I don’t know if I will be able to put into words how much I loved this book, but I am going to try! This book turned me into a book goblin who thinks sleep is for the weak. My heart. I wasn’t expecting it to get so involved. But I was invested from the beginning and loved the growth that happened. And holy hotness, the spice in this was on point. Did I cry when Jazz gave her back her favorite book with notations? Yes. Yes I did. Unabashedly. I love how BG writes her characters with such depth, and the honest struggle of mental illness in their lives. She is definitely a favorite author ❤️
❤️ Tropes ❤️ 💋 rockstar romance 💋 age gap 💋 good girl/bad boy 💋 it was always you
Kandace had been best friends with the boys next door pretty much all her life. Then one day when she was 14, Jazz cut her completely out of his life. Not knowing what she had done wrong, her heart was broken. She continued to hang out with Tommy, but it didn’t feel right. In her senior year, she is at a party and Jazz corners her, taking her breath away. He then sent a location to her with no instructions, the coordinates for his next show. The lyrics he sings could be about anyone, but the way he sings them makes her think they might be about her. She’s almost 18, and Jazz has plans for her.
