After an op gone wrong, billionaire heiress Charli Cavendish retires from her M16 service. Now Charli needs to decide her next step. Her sister Poppy wants her to move near her in California. Her grandfather wants her to stay in England and help him with different tasks. Her ex Mitch wants her to work with him in private security. She needs time to decide, but when danger comes to her sister, Charli heads to California. Mitch isn't far behind. I received a free copy of this ebook from the author. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. This is a fun mystery with a second chance romance. Even though I figured out who the villain was early on, there are plenty of suspects and red herrings. I quickly devoured this book.

I have a thing with people that don’t label books of what they are or give warnings so people know what they are getting into. For writers these days to not label something as “Religious” or “Religious Content” or whatever bugs me to no end because my beliefs are my own and I don’t want someone shoving their beliefs onto me. This speaks clearly like the political content going on today in RL where Republicans think they can pass on their beliefs of what is right or not and we should all be okay with it. I’m not here for that and so I am here to tell anyone who plans to read this that it DOES contain religious elements of prayers and such. It is mild but it is still there…..

Now in terms of the story itself, it was a decent read and a bit of insta-love because this is a 2nd chance where the MCs had been in a relationship a few months prior and this is their reunion. So, H & h are British spies or something. They were partners in the past and in love, however, Hero got cold feet (aka “scared” of his feelings LOL) and he gave her some lame excuse that devastated heroine and they broke up. I think their breakup was 3 or 4 months prior. In the present, Hero works for another organization but plans to go out on his own and wants to recruit heroine to work with him and to patch things up with her because he regrets that he hurt and let her go and wants a 2nd chance with her.

Heroine, butt hurt for what he did to her is also dealing with guilt because her friend & work partner had mental issues and committed suicide and she had to rat him out which caused his suicide. Along with all this, her beloved younger sister is also shot so has to find her killer and that’s where Hero comes in to help whether she likes it or not.

These two play off well with each other but there was some element missing that didn’t have me invested in this story as much as I hoped and that is perhaps because I think Hero didn’t work for his grovel & redemption. He said he was sorry, there was a few kisses and then the ILY’s before they even got to the middle of the story. Now I like me some good suspense in a story but I was able to guess the villain pretty quick in the story as this character came into focus so that took that element away. And then there was the part where Hero said that after he & heroine fought and sort of broke up, he went on dates with many women (he was a Manho before he met heroine & wanted to get back to it I guess) – while heroine stayed frozen and he never shared that little nugget with heroine. Would it have made a difference to this character if she knew this? Who knows but I’m a vengeful sort and I would have been very, very angry and unforgiving in her shoes and I would have wanted to see that scene play out and for author to clarify what those “dates” entailed. Did he have sex with others or not? He said he wanted to move on from heroine but couldn’t. Oh please! It was JUST 3-4 months! Lol.

Anyway, in terms of safety, one can debate if this little nugget is considered cheating or not but in my book, it IS. No cheating in the present and No OW/OM drama though for a few chapters in, heroine plays Hero to make him jealous by making him believe she is dating OM who is heroine’s sister’s neighbor. Charli Cavendish has retired from M16 in an attempt to keep from running into her ex Fitz. He broke her heart but didn't succeed in making her no longer love him. She planned on heading to California to visit her younger sister, Poppy, in the near future. She knew Poppy wanted her to come and live in California; but she felt an obligation to stay near their Grandfather; however, a long trip to see Poppy came as soon as she paid her visit to Grandfather. Great plans never run smoothly. While at Grandfather's, they got word that Poppy had been shot in her home and was not expected to live. As soon as possible, Grandfather and Charli were headed for California and Charli was in the process of buying a house near Poppy's. When they got to California, they were informed that Poppy had died, funeral arrangements were made, and a murder investigation was underway.
Charli was devastated; but her work as an M16 agent came into play. She would find her sister's murderer. Fitz, her ex-partner, came to help her bringing his friend Tippin. Charli and her Grandfather began their investigation. Would they be able to find the murderer?

I enjoyed this story about Billionaire Heiress Charli Cavendish , she is pulled every which way, when all she craves his her inner sanctum . She’s recently retired from MI6 and wants a different pace. But when danger threatens one of her own she moves fast , so does her ex…suspenseful and fast paced romance that’s full of misdirection that has more to do with arms than a pair of arms , but that doesn’t stop him turning on the charm….A few twists to keep you guessing . An enjoyable fast paced story. Solid composition and well written. I read a forwarded book and I’m leaving a review voluntarily in my own thoughts

It is hard to review a Jennifer Youngblood book because you don’t want to give away any part of the twists and turns. In this book, like most books by this author, you know you’re going to get a compelling story line, strong capable characters, romance, humor, danger, mystery and a few surprises and twists. You end up unable to believe how many clues you missed. This series is comprised of some of my favorite authors, and I can’t wait to see what comes next. I loved this book and look forward to Ms. Youngblood’s next one.

Protecting the Heiress is a clean, edge of your seat, suspenseful, twisty romance. I really enjoyed the relationship between Charli and her grandfather. Charli’s sister Poppy was a ray of sunshine. I got nothing else done once I started reading I was so invested in this book and its outcome! Between the devastating news, Poppy’s stalker, Poppy’s husband political ambitions, and Charli’s former colleague Fitz, there is a lot happening. I highly recommend this exciting adventure!

This is a high-energy, fast-paced read. I was surprised a number of times by the twists and turns the storyline took. Charli is a strong-willed character. It was fun to watch her spar with Fitz. This story is a terrific start to a new series. It was fun to get to know secondary characters. Looking forward to stories about them in the future!

A great mystery full of suspense and romance. I really enjoyed the storyline and the characters. The love between the family was heart warming. Betrayal and attempted murder bring two former MI6 agents with a past relationship back together. While solving who the killer is, there might be a second chance for their relationship.

Charli and Fitz

This book is an excellent adventure novel. The mystery was intriguing. There were many facets and several surprises. When I thought I had it figured out there was a new development. I love a book that keeps me guessing and this book did that. The romance was well done and satisfying. I recommend Protecting the Heiress.

Great Clean Suspense/Romance

I loved reading Charli and Fitz’s story, even when Charli’s constant need for fighting Fitz got super annoying. I loved the little happy surprise and hated that I was right about the bad guy and the cheater. Trigger warning: Charli’s brother-in-law is a cheater. No swearing, just some kissing.

Great Book

I really enjoyed this story and all the twists and turns. I kept changing my mind on who was the stalker and then at the end, it had a big twist that I didn't see coming. I love Fritz and Charli. Their chemistry is so good, and how they are always at each other makes me laugh. My heart hurt for Poppy.
I really enjoyed this book and want to read the next one.

It took me a little bit to get into the book, but once I got past the first few pages, I didn't want to put it down. It very well could have been because it was a different genre than what I normally read. Will look forward to reading more.

The book has approximately 200 pages; full of action regarding getting the Owl, however mission was a failure. I did not read every line, however I would recommend this book for others to read!
