Lord, Teach Us to Pray: How to Pray Powerfully and Effectively Through an Understanding of Christ’s Model Prayer for His Disciples

Rate this book
IF YOU'RE SERIOUS ABOUT PRAYER AND COMMUNING WITH GOD, YOU WANT THIS BOOK!

How Can the Christian Pray Powerfully and Effectively?

And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples. Luke 11:1

When Christ's disciples finally ask Him how to pray,

...He gives them the same model of prayer that they heard in the Sermon on the Mount and in every town and village where the Lord preached.

This model prayer, commonly called the Lord's prayer, should actually be called the disciples' prayer.

This is how Jesus said that we should pray; not by reciting this prayer in vain repetition, but by communing and communicating with God according to the heavenly truths the Lord Jesus reveals in Scripture.

This book is not an exhaustive treatise on prayer, but it does present a solid foundation for any Christian desiring a more powerful and effective prayer life.

I had a number of issues with the structure of the book, as it reads as personal opinion rather than being based in biblical foundations. Ultimately, I had to stop reading when it referred to Cinco de Mayo as Mexican Independence Day. When you can’t bother to get basic historical facts correct, how can I trust the rest of the book’s content?

This was an inspiring and helpful read on prayer. I aided in my understanding of a needed prayer life that we all need, in order to speak with God. We each have the ability to do so and there are so many venues through which we can speak with God to praise, thank, glorify, and otherwise understand Him. Prayer is one way through which we can become whole with God. Well worth the time to read, for certain!

Nicely worded breakdown on prayer.

Up front, there is nothing negative I can say about this book. Simple read and logically written. Good primer on prayer.

This is an excellent breakdown of the meaning behind the words of the Lord's prayer taught by the Lord to the disciples in Luke 11.

Appreciated the introduction and first chapter with its call to simple prayer, prayer as the proper response to fear. And though there continued to be moments of promise, there were also straw men arguments against liturgy, which made it more difficult for me to appreciate the positive elements of the book. I found myself skimming the second half. But it's not a long book and provides good reminders to the lessons of the Lord's Prayer.
