For all those who have ever felt a stranger in your own skin;
You can always start again.
At the age of eighteen, all Sovie wants to do is escape her life. Her home feels like a prison, as she tries to outlive the screaming and arguements on her family. She has lived in a mold her entire life, unable to grow in ways she wanted because of the expectations of others. Yet, she feels like the disappointment of the family, as the oldest child who just can’t seem to make her parents proud. Nothing she does is good enough.
On the day of her graduation, Sovie has finally had enough. Packing her entire room into her rusty pickup truck, as she leaves behind her past to try to rebuild herself. She cuts off everyone, including her boyfriend, who she gave everything to just to keep someone paying attention to her.
Leaving behind her old life gives Sovie a chance to start over, to leave behind all the pain and the wounds of the past– But most of all, to learn from them. To learn to move on. To learn to grow. To learn to love.
All she wants is to leave the past behind, and start over.
Waves is a well structured story with interesting characters and great moments. The Story itself is good. It starts with a hook right away that grabs the reader's attention and keeps going and gets even better.
I wrote this novella as a way to let those struggling with mental health and assault know they are not alone. The book is about learning to grow from trauma and grief, and growing from those hurts of the past. It’s difficult to face things that have happened to you, and even more difficult to move on. But most importantly, it’s difficult to learn to grow from them and let them shape you. This story follows a 19 year old as she leaves behind her entire life in hopes of starting over, and becoming the person she’s always wanted to be. It deals with the struggles of depression, anxiety, self harm, sexual assault, family trauma, loss of a friend, and ptsd. My goal with this short book was to reach out to as many people as possible, and to make the story as real and easily read as possible. I can’t wait for feedback, and I hope that this book can help someone in need know that there is always something to grow from, and that there is always someone who’s there.
