3 - "There was never anything ordinary about our relationship." Stars.
This is the first book I have read by Rosie Miles. It was well written and pretty entertaining in an action packed sort of way. But oddly the author had a really weird knack of giving away exactly what was going to happen next in the previous paragraphs.
I didn’t mind it so much as the story was pretty fast paced, and not only are you reading of the reconnection between Quinn and Maggie after she has spent the last 12 months undercover, but they are also dealing with the fact that her cover has been blown, the bad guys are after them, and one of their colleagues is sabotaging them as well as trying to frame Maggie, every step of the way.
Distance and time might have separated them physically, but she’d lived in his heart, his thoughts, constantly.
I really liked Quinn, sexy, brooding and not afraid to put himself on the line for the woman he loved, he went above and beyond in his efforts to protect her and help her clear her name.
”Kiss me forever.”
Maggie was more of a struggle, she contacts Quinn after 12 months of radio silence to ask for his help, then pretty much disagrees and disregards every idea and suggestion he has initially. She did sort of work out as the book progressed that is was ok to lean on someone else again after so long being on her own and in a really high stress situation… but she was almost too ‘gung-ho’ for me for most of the story.
Entertaining enough, and it held my interest, Never Surrender is the type of book that keeps you engaged and invested whilst reading, I would certainly look to read more from Rosie in the future.

Geez, I just don't know about this one! I hate that that statement is my opening line for my review but that is really how I feel about Never Surrender. When I first read the blurb for this one, I was intrigued. I thought that the whole thing sounded interesting and I was excited to crack it open. Well, not literally since I read it on my Kindle but you know what I mean.
I'll just cut to the chase and get down to business on this one. I'll be honest, it felt like it jumped around a little. We would be in the middle of a situation and then all of the sudden it would go to something else seemingly out of nowhere. The conversations also felt ... disconnected. I didn't get that connection with any of the characters on any kind of level ... I never felt sorry for them or excited or happy or even sad. That being said, I still enjoyed the premise. I wanted to know what was going to happen (even though it was a tad predictable) but I found myself skipping sentences and then paragraphs because I was just not that engaged.
Supposedly, this is a romance and some even say romantic suspense. But I didn't get the suspense and I really didn't get the romance part. The interactions between Maggie and Quinn felt forced and not from the character's standpoint, if that makes any sense. Let me see if I can explain ... the romance between those two just didn't feel ... normal. It felt forced and not because of their past. I know that there should have been passion between them because of the words that the author used but just reading those words isn't enough. There should almost be this palpable chemistry between characters, in my opinion. I should be jealous of the chick involved because she is with such a smokin' hot guy and he's so romantic or passionate or whatever. And I should want to make said smokin' hot dude my new book boyfriend. Instead, it was like witnessing two octopi (or octopuses if you prefer) making out ... sure there seems to be a lot going on because of all of the movement and rustling about but who is really for sure what is going on. That is exactly how the "romantic" moments in this book felt like.
Back to the suspense part ... about a third of the way into the book there was a big surprise and I was so excited. I thought that things were looking up and I would become more entranced with the characters and all of that. Unfortunately, I just totally plateaued out for me. I found myself in the same position I was in previously with the plot jumping nonsense and the very sad excuse for a romance.
I don't think that I'll be picking up another book by this author. I'm glad I gave it a shot because I would always wonder what it was like if I hadn't.
* I received this novel in exchange for an honest review *
An exciting suspense filled romance that kept me entertained. Slightly predictable but overall a good read.
When Maggie Sinclair left without a word a year ago for another undercover assignment, Quinn McCade didn't think he's ever see her again. Now she's calling and asking for his help. He should say no but his heart won't let him.
Maggie is desperate, obviously, she called Quinn. The one man who probably hates her more than any one else. He's also the only one she can trust. She's been working over a year to bust up a prostitution ring but after removing two girls, her cover is blown and she needs Quinn's help.
It's full of suspense and romance and it's a book I would definitely recommend.
Undercover Police officer Maggie Sinclair & Detective Quinn McQuade are police officers and were lovers until a huge fight broke them up 12 months before. But Maggie contacted Quinn in desperation, in fear for her life. Young Girls are being trafficked and Maggie needs help in getting this stop since she is the one working undercover to get the information to shut down prostitution ring and discovered the young girls angle. She thinks there is a leak and she ends up calling the one man she swore she never would again—her ex-boyfriend. There is no one she can trust and there is so much evil all around. Maggie doesn’t know who to trust and when she sees underage girls she needed to get them out and when she called, her Ex- Quinn does show up and when he realizes how deep things are and how bad, he joins her to get to the bottom of the mess. The suspense and the passion between the two is fantastic—and the flow of the story is wonderful. I enjoyed how Maggie was so devoted to making things right. Between her and Quinn, between things in her past…and I loved how alpha Quinn was and yet, he knew he needed to repair things between him and Maggie…..wow, I loved how the story ended. I truly enjoyed everything about this story. The twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat thru the whole story. My Rating: 4.10 stars **** ***A gifted copy was provided by the publisher for my honest review****

Never Surrender is the debut novel from author Rosie Miles and is a romantic suspense standalone about two former partners and lovers who, after a year of separation, work together to bring down a man involved in sex slavery. This was a really great and strong story that kept everything fast-paced while amping up the tension as the plot to paint Maggie Sinclair as an undercover police officer as a turncoat becomes more complex. She's a strong heroine and it's clear that she was far more cocky and overly sure of herself a year ago, right before she started her undercover assignment, and her reaching out to her ex and fellow police officer Quinn Keller shows that she's learned quite a few things since then. There's a vulnerability to her that makes her more appealing than had she been hardcore about her independence.
I already had my suspicions regarding two individuals in the story and I was proven right later on as to who they were and what their motives were, though the extent of their involvement in Maggie's case floored me. Both Maggie and Quinn were excellent as main characters, and I liked that there was still this tension between them, both the good sexual kind and the not-so-good we-have-differences kind, as they were trying to figure out if being a couple again was worth the risk of getting their hearts broken. This story also had a pretty strong cast of supporting characters, namely James Ferguson and Cooper (whose last name wasn't mentioned) and they would have had potential for spin-off stories, but they're both happily married and have kids, so I'm guessing there won't be any future stories for these two good guys.
The copy that I received for review is an advanced reader's copy (ARC), so finding errors isn't a biggie, but I do wish that, with the story being set in Australia, the ranks of the characters involved with the police would have been consistent as to those used in the country. I did a bit of Googling and saw that there was no mention of the rank of Detective in Australia, which is what Quinn and Maggie both were. Now, it would have been fine if the decision was to stick to that, but it was being interchanged with the rank of Constable and Senior Constable, and then you had superiors who were Inspectors, a rank that's used in Australian police departments, so the possibility of confusion is ever-present. But focused on just the story and the characters, Never Surrender was a highly entertaining read and one I'm giving 4.5 stars to, rounded off to five stars. ♥
This book has a great premise. Maggie is an undercover cop. Quinn was her boyfriend and he is also a cop. Their relationship ended when he didn't approve she became an undercover cop. She asks for his help and together start living a lot of dangerous situations. The romance is very nice.
This book has a lot of action and romance but the characters didn't work so well for me. I wish I could feel them a little more.
What a brilliant debut novel from Rosie Miles. Suspense, romance, and all round action - what else could you want. I can see why this won a Ruby award (Romance Writers of Australia) in 2016. From the beginning you are pulled into a world of intrigue, lost love, and suspicion. The only person Maggie can trust is her one time lover, Quinn but will this case the beginning of something new, or will old arguments tear them apart forever. Definitely worth the read to find out.
Disclaimer: While I personally know the author, this does not affect my star rating.
What a fast paced, high octane charged read! A very ballsy heroine in very dangerous situations, a hunky overprotective alpha male hero who doesn’t like being gone against, but they make it in the end. Well done Rosie Miles. (There are a few minor typos, but not enough to distract me from a great read)
NEVER SURRENDER was a suspense-filled and fast-paced surprise, a bit predictable at times but entertaining nonetheless. It took several tries for me to get into it, but once I did, it was tense ride to the end.
Maggie Sinclair has been undercover for the last twelve months as part of a police investigation into an underage prostitution/sex slavery ring and has been successful in getting two of the girls out but her suspicion that her cover has been blown has her reaching out to the one man she trusts - her ex-lover and fellow police officer, Quinn Keller.
Quinn Keller thought that he had seen the last of Maggie Sinclair when she left to take an undercover assignment after a spectacular blow-up over her decision to go undercover, so he's very surprised to get a request for help from her but his feelings for her won't let him ignore her plea for help.
Maggie's suspicions are correct, she is in danger and pulls out of the assignment in the nick of time. However, she is being painted as a traitor in league with the criminals and what follows is a race to stay ahead of the bad guys, uncover the identities of the cops who are in cahoots with the criminals and clear Maggie's name. Both Maggie and Quinn were really likable and strong characters. Quinn was easy and straightforward and a protector at the core of him. He was so protective of Maggie. I really liked that in spite of how they broke up, Quinn was quick to respond to Maggie's call for help and put himself on the line for her over and over again. Maggie was a bit more complicated. She was strong and fearless and passionate. She always struggled for her independence and was quick to challenge anyone and anything that threatened her independence but her time undercover blunted her sharp ends a little and exposed her vulnerable side.
I love suspense and most times will overlook the romance or lack of it is the action is gripping enough, but I was glad that that was not the case here. Maggie and Quinn's struggle to rebuild their relationship and adapt to the changes one year apart had brought was front and center and I'm glad that Quinn was accepting of her and her secrets.
Overall, this was an enjoyable story and I would recommend it to anyone who loves fast-paced action with their romance.
Disclaimer: I received this book for free from the Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
So this book had a couple of things going for it when it comes to me as a reader, I like books with second chances, I like books where there is action/mystery, and I like books with cops. So this book had a lot of things I generally like in books. I think what set this book apart for me is that our heroine in this book is undercover, and her ex is also a cop, and when she gets in trouble, he is who she calls, which I thought is such a good set up for a good book.
So our heroine is Maggie, and she is undercover trying to bring down this, well basically, kingpin in the sex-slave business. When our book starts Maggie is extraordinarily paranoid, I mean like super paranoid, she is convinced she is being watched all the time. At first I thought her paranoia was over the top and I might have even been a little annoyed by it, but honestly when the book continued I thought maybe she could have used a bit more paranoia. I liked her as a character, I liked that she was trying to do the right thing. I liked that even though she was being set up to take the fall in this case, that she was first and foremost concerned with the welfare of the girls she was trying to save then she was for herself. I also liked that she wasn’t like some 100% awesome super cop, she has panic attacks, she’s paranoid, she gets herself into tricky situations; basically she’s flawed and it made her more believable and more likable.
Now for our hero in the story, Quinn. Right off the bat, I liked that he shows up for his ex when she asked for his help, and he’s genuinely there to help her, I think that says a lot about him as a person, he’s really just a good guy. So Quinn and Maggie didn’t end on the greatest of terms, lets just say Quinn was worried that Maggie going undercover would put her in danger and he tried to step in, not exactly the most supportive guy when it comes to his girlfriend, but I kind of get where he was coming from. He does have some he-man tendencies, and there are a couple of times when I wanted to shake him and tell him to pull his head out of him bum and go after the girl he so clearly is in love with.
I did enjoy the story, and the whole plot line of the bringing down this really bad guy, who is doing horrible things. I also loved how much Quinn and Maggie were isolated, the two of them weren’t able to really get help from the people they should have been able to, because as it turns out not every cop can be trusted. I liked the mystery element of the book, trying to figure out who the bad guys really were. It was a quick read for me, but it was an enjoyable one for me. If you like cop romances with some action in them, then you might want to check out this book.
I enjoyed this book. It took me a little bit to get into it but once I got going on it, it was really good. The story flowed smoothly and kept your attention. This was a first read for me by Rosie Miles but I was pleasantly surprised at how well this story flowed.
Maggie is on an undercover mission that she is not so sure of. She has seen some stuff that has made her wonder and question if she is being set up but she needs help. Maggie is not sure who she can trust right now so she calls her ex and asks him to meet her to see what he thinks. Once they meet at where she is working, and trying to bust a sex-slave gang where they use young females as they want, Maggie and Quinn both get the feeling that they are being followed. When Quinn vows to help Maggie, he questions Maggie's loyalty at points because of what he is being told. Quinn knows that he understands Maggie better than anyone else and knows that she would never turn into the bad cop. Quinn knows that she is being set up but now they have to prove it.
Quinn helps Maggie to try and find where two young girls are that she helped get out of the club previously. Maggie takes her responsibility of getting the girls out safe very seriously. When they find the girls, their place had been compromised. Then the true hunt begins. The action keeps going and keeps you on your toes wondering what is going to happen and wondering if they are going to be able to prove Maggie's innocence.
Quinn has an old friend that he calls upon to help them find the girl and once they find her, James helps Quinn and Maggie hide out while they try and figure out the whole situation. Somehow though, the bad people keep finding them and Maggie figures out that they have a transmitter on the girl. Maggie sis still being set up in events that are happening elsewhere and Quinn can not figure out how this keeps happening. The plan had been laid out good by the ones that were out to get Maggie though.
This story also ended up being a second chance love for Quinn and Maggie. I love that they still had a good relationship to where Maggie felt like she could call upon him for help. This story was full of romance, excitement and suspense. I am anxious to see what comes next for us as readers from Rosie. Thanks for a great read that kept us wanting to know how it ended!
I was given an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion, but that did not influence my opinion.
This book is about two people that were partners and also lovers but something happened and they went their own way. Maggie ends up needing help because the person that she ended up needing to report to was MIA. Quinn didn’t think that he would ever hear from Maggie but from the moment that he saw her all those feelings rushed back in. She has two young girls that will be witnesses but something happens and that’s not it something happens when she goes back and gets her evidence. Now Quinn needs to clear her name because now the police that one of their own was too deep in undercover that she turned. They are going to have to think quickly and act quickly and not trust anyone.
What can I say about Never Surrender but that I absolutely loved it. I love stories that are full of action and suspense because those are the types that I can’t put down. The writing was descriptive and focused. This is the first book by this author and I can’t wait to see what she writes next. The characters were well developed but the only thing that I would have liked was more about what happened in the beginning of their relationship.
I totally recommend this read!!!

Maggie and Quinn were a couple but have been apart for about a year. They fought over Maggie's insistence that she wanted to work undercover. Quinn knew the physical and emotional hazards of that kind off life and didn't want that for Maggie. She took his concern as an insult to her abilities and walked away without looking back...much. Now, Maggie has the undercover career she wanted, but it has cost her too much and left her in danger without backup. She does the only thing she can think to do...call Quinn. Despite how badly things ended, he knows she must be desperate to have broke her silence and called him. He shows up to help her and ends up on the run and in danger along with her. The enemies she has made are powerful, and they will stop at nothing to keep Maggie from revealing their illegal trafficking operation.
I liked Maggie and especially Quinn. Their history was complicated, but they could depend on each other when it counted. The story had plenty of suspenseful twists and turns and a bit of police type procedure as well.
My Review This was a pretty quick read for me but I really enjoyed it. Now it was a fairly typical read but I am going to be honest and say that I have read several books in the last couple of months that have been a bit typical. Maggie is an undercover cop while Quinn is her ex-boyfriend who also happens to be a cop. When Maggie goes undercover they break up and Quinn doesn't approve. However when Maggie realizes that she needs help she turns to Quinn. Quinn doesn't hesitate to respond and together they are fight a battle to solve not only crime but also for their survival. I am a big romantic suspense fan so this book was a good fit for me. Maggie and Quinn are good characters and the book has enough action and romance that I finished it without feeling like I was going to have to throw my eReader across the room. Hey it has happened before! ;)
Never Surrender is a debut novel. For the most part, I enjoyed the story. Maggie is a cop who went undercover a year earlier despite her fellow cop and lover's advice. They severed ties and now she has reached out asking him for help. She has been undercover at a club trying to catch the owner who is stealing and selling young girls.
I liked both Maggie and Quinn's characters and thought thy were good together. You could tell they still cared about each other as the book went on. Because they had a history, their hook-up was pretty easy to buy. The mystery was good as well, although I was able to pick out the moles pretty easily. That didn't take away from the story though.
My only complaint about the book was the constant feeling I had that I was missing something. Almost like this was supposed to be a part of a series with backstory that I needed. Especially when it came to James and Lydia. I also would have liked more background of Maggie and Quinn together before she went undercover. Despite all of that, this is a good debut book. I look forward to seeing what this author comes out with next.
This book pulls you in almost from the first page and keeps you hooked through most of the book!
Maggie is in trouble, having gone undercover to bust a prostitution ring, she uncovers crimes much worse than prostitution. When things fall apart, Maggie is stuck undercover; unable to trust anyone in the department she turns to the one man who swore she would never ask for help from.
The back story between Quinn and Maggie is not revealed for quite some time in this story, so you are left trying to put the pieces together however I think not knowing exactly what happened between the two is what held my interest in the book the most. I desperately wanted to know why Maggie swore she would never turn to Quinn for help and more importantly why Quinn was still so obviously hung up with Maggie.
Maggie and Quinn are forced to work together when it becomes obvious there is no one either of them can trust to help. The question is: what will happen when the sting is over? Will they ever be able to overcome their history together? Can they get past Maggie going undercover? What sort of future will they have?

I enjoyed the premise of this book, it's a second chance book, but has a ton of action and suspense packed into the middle and end. I found the beginning a little dry, and had a little bit of trouble sticking with it, but I'm glad I did! The action really picks up and led to a mildly predictable end.
I enjoyed the heat between Maggie and Quinn, the chemistry was hot! The sex scenes were well written, and the overall relationship, although fast-paced was believable.
I enjoyed the strength the author instilled in Angel. Although she'd be through so much, she had moxie. The glimpse the reader is given into James and Lydia revealed loyal friends full of character, although, given their importance to the story, I would have like them to be a little more developed. I didn't get a good sense of some of the characters. They were there, and played an important role, but I felt like they could be more.
The story line was intense, fast-paced and well written. Overall, it was an enjoyable read, with the potential to be more.
I've always vowed that I wouldn't give a boyfriend a second chance. If we couldn't work things out, then it wasn't meant to be. Characters have to prove themselves to me in a second chance romance, for me to hope they get back together. By the end of Never Surrender, I was cheering for reconciliation.
Rosie Miles debut novel fits neatly in the romantic suspense category romance box. It met my expectations. The romance side was a little predictable, but I would have been unhappy if it had gone any other way. The suspense side kept me guessing, though I spotted the clues with the 20:20 vision of hindsight. I loved the familiar Australian setting.
I received this book free in exchange for an honest review.
This is an engaging and quick read. Maggie is an undercover cop and Quinn is her former boyfriend and also a cop. They broke up when she went undercover and Quinn did not approve. When Maggie realizes that she needs help, she turns to Quinn. Quinn responds immediately and they are thrust into a battle to solve the crimes and for their very survival.
This book was filled with action and romance, but the character just didn't grab me. They were likeable, but just didn't make me feel invested in them. This is highly subjective and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5.
If you enjoy romantic suspense, this is a great choice.

Police officer Maggie Sinclair doesn't want to depend on anyone especially Detective Quinn Mccade so when she goes deep undercover and realizes she is alone in this.
She has to make a fast decision and decides to call McCade. The heat is now on and you will not be able to put this down. The suspense kills you as well as the storyline. You can;t trust anyone and you will not believe how it ends.
I was given an ARC of Never Surrender from NetGalley for an honest review and this is my review. This book was okay for me. It was all very predictable and I had it pretty well figured it about half way through so I just finished it to be sure I was right. It just did not work that well and was a bit boring. I am only going to give this book three out of five stars.
Rosie Miles' debut novel is a page turner. Threats without names and faces come at Maggie from all directions. The only safe place for her and her witness is with the cop she walked out on. Sure, there are times you want to throttle Maggie, but that's what makes this flawed character likable and readable.
I've picked this one up and put it back down several times over the past week and it's just not working for me... Shelving it for now but I may try to come back to it later.

This is a fast paced, suspenseful novel and the first work I have read by Ms. Miles. I found the story to be a bit predictable but still enjoyably entertaining.

An enjoyable quick read full of action, drama and chemistry. I liked Maggie and Quinn but I didn't love them as characters. Love a plot twist and this book delivers!
