Scotland, 1159 Hew du Lac is a Rivenloch warrior who is physically very impressive to look at with his hammer making him look like his Viking ancestors, especially with his fair hair and braw muscular physique! Yet his personality is extra special as he is kind, caring, sweet, funny, honest, honorable and protective to those he cares about. His biggest problem is that he gives his big heart away easily, but also thinks he is in love every five minutes!
Sadly these disloyal women just thrash his heart and throw him away with a feeble excuse and break his tender heart! Of course he soon realizes it was more about lust than it was true love. His mum decides her son needs to take a break from women and these empty relationships. As there is a thief at the monastery and they want to discover who is stealing their wealthy religious treasures. It was the perfect place for Hew to mend his broken heart in a place surrounded by monks where women were not admitted.
Hew decides to ban all women and heal his broken heart at the Monastery. That is until he realized he was only going to be surrounded by monks who prayed all the time! Hew definitely missed women from their delightful smells, soft hair, rosy cheeks, wet lips, sway of their hips and their feminine giggles. Furthermore he was freezing in his monastery cell that had no warm hearth, the monks also ate each of their meals in silence as the size of their meals were for a small toddler. So Hew was starving not just for female companionship but for substance too, he was hungry on all fronts period!
That is until he sees Lady Carenza who is the most beautiful creature he has ever seen in his entire life! So much for banning all women as Hew already knew he was in love. Could she be the one? Is this the one true mate that would love him forever? This time he was going to take it slow, easy until one night when she was on medication and confessed her true feelings for Hew. This was absolutely killing Hew, but he pretended he did hear her until she started kissing him and telling him he would make a terrible monk!
Lady Carenza of Dunlop, who is a local Laird's daughter, who is not only the bonniest lass on the planet, but a kind and caring woman too. She loves with her whole heart and is a huge animal lover who is trying to save her favorite Highland coo from being slaughtered, which is called culling but she calls it killing. This is an animal she had been caring for the past six years.
She is also miserable being a Laird's daughter and doesn't like the idea of being married off just for a clan alliance as if she was getting sold by the highest bidder like a farm animal. Everything changes when she meets Hew and knows she has finally found her true love as he is the one person that makes her soul feel safe and at peace.
However soon they realize that Hew’s very life could be forfeit from the choices he has made from both choice and misunderstandings that could shatter both Hew and Carenza’s future. Will she lose the only man she has ever loved. Will Hew lose the one woman who owns his heart and soul? Plus the choices he might make might stretch his neck and some might feel he betraying the King
Decisions are not easy for these star crossed lovers and soon choices must be made. Will love win or the duties of clan loyalty. Which side will win? Read and find out in another fabulous Glynnis Campbell read.
I have been reading Glynnis Campbell books for many decades and she never disappoints. She is one of my favorite authors who is a brilliant storyteller and I am always swept away in her stories that makes me both giggle and gasp! This is another book readers don't want to miss. I highly recommend reading them all in series order, although it can be read as a stand alone book too. I personally feel readers will be able to connect the dots more easily in series order.

The Warrior Lairds of Rivenloch BOOK ONE: LAIRD OF STEEL BOOK TWO: LAIRD OF FLINT BOOK THREE: LAIRD OF SMOKE: Coming Soon
Hew du Lac, has a serious weakness for women. Hew likes all kinds and because of that his heart would also get entangled in the mess, making him fall in love with them all quite easily. Hew had actually fallen so deep in love with a woman that it ended up breaking his heart. Luckily, Hew was also good with a sword, so he knew how to fight. Hew’s mother makes the decision to send Hew away to a monastery in Kildunan. The reason being to figure out the thefts that keep happening there. Hew must disguise his warrior ways and tell everyone that he is there to take a vow of chastity. Of course, everything would work out perfectly until Hew meets the kindhearted animal-loving laird’s daughter, Lady Carenza of Dunlop. Hew thought he had avoided women until he met Carenza and instantly fell in love with her despite his quest to solve the thefts. Hew has a lot of competition with not just the animals but other men that want Carenza and even his own brother. This book just literally made me smile, laugh, bit my nails off in anticipation and sigh at not just how good it was to read but everything that was jam-packed in the book. There was comedy, some scary moments, stunning scenery, heart-stopping romance and beautiful characters that stay with you long after the book is finished! Yes, this is part of a series so would it help to read the other books in the series it might just to understand the other minor characters, but it isn’t really necessary. The only sad thing I waited for it seemed like a long while between the books. So, I forgot about Gellir’s story and how it fit. Some questions arose about the betrothal of Gellir and Hew fitting into the story. Hew is a great hero. He’s loyal and really has a heart of gold. Sure, he falls in love a little too quickly and is a bit hot-headed, but what’s not to love about him? Of course, when he does give his heart to a deserving lady, it’s forgiving and true. Carenza might seem Hew’s opposite, but in truth, she really isn’t. She’s tender-hearted, compassionate and loves all animals. In a sense, I kind of wish she would have been vegetarian had been then her stance on animals would have seemed a bit truer to her all-over nature. Ms. Glynnis Campbell just knows how to write such an entrancing tale that it is so easy to get swept along with it that I did forget what I was supposed to do.
He Finally Found Love and Unlocked Her Heart A beautiful love story that took me away to another time and place and kept me entertained with two dynamic characters, a horrendous mystery to solve and finding the right one to love. Hew was a strong honorable warrior missioned to find a thief at the monastery. Corenza is a spirited lass who loves animals and sill do anything to save them. I found the story was on the fun side with many humorous situations throughout, some heartfelt confessions, sinister villains, endearing attraction, a toe curling first kiss where the romance finally took hold and the pages started smoldering right before my eyes. Thank goodness I had my lady's fan ready which I had to use it more than once. The last few chapters threw me a curve and had me totally shocked and disheartened, but everything turned around and made this story absolutely a story not to miss. 💋Cover was outstanding in portraying Hew the warrior 👀I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy for my honest thoughts and opinion. 📣Special Mention: The darling animals that brought some cute scenes into the story. ✔Fan Worthy Advisory 🔥🔥🔥
When the king makes it known that he is looking to arrange marriages for his Rivenloch warriors to his own political ends, Hew du Lac is shipped off to a monastery to be out of the King’s sight. Tasked with solving a series of thefts at the monastery, he catches sight of Lady Carenza of Dunlop and is immediately smitten, despite having sworn an oath of chastity after several failed relationships. But they are unable to resist their mutual attraction and commence an illicit affair. Just when it looks like everything is coming up roses, a betrothal to another warrior threatens to destroy everything. Ms. Campbell writes beautiful prose and dialog, strong heroines, compassionate and honorable heroes, and tops it off with a satisfying HEA. Like all the Rivenloch books this can be read as a standalone, while it also includes themes and characters from the other “Rivenloch” stories. I highly recommend this book along with the rest of the Rivenloch series. You won’t be disappointed! I received a free review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I fell in love with Hew as fast as he falls in love with all the maidens. I loved the fluff of this story, how innocent the love starts and how quickly it developed. The constant mischief between the main characters kept me entertained. The story, as well as who the thieves were was very predictable. However I did expect an immediate happily ever after once the mystery of the thieves was solved and was pleasantly surprised with the twist of fate. My heart broke completely for Hew with the news from the king; when Carenza started with the “cherished friend” bit, my heart broke some more. I was so glad to see there was still more mischief and surprises afoot to get towards that happily ever after. Overall this was a cute love story with all the mischief, entertainment and drama a person loves to read. I was giggling and smiling throughout the whole story and loved every moment and every curveball. I can honestly say I was a “coo” too.
Laird of Flint by Glynnis Cambell - Hew was as volatile as fireworks. Quick to ignite. Quick to explode. And quick to extinguish. That volatility was what had earned him so many broken hearts. And this time he'd want it so badly not to make a mess of things. He'd wanted to go slowly. To be her friend first. Her confidant. Her champion. But Hew made Carenza feel brazen. And fearless. And brilliant. He made her feel like she didn't have to guard her words. Like she could speak her mind. And her heart. And that was his undoing. The sparks fly between the two. A delightful story that weaves family, thievery, romance, and a coo named Hamish together with just the right magic to make it a fast read that leaves you wanting more! It is the second book in the series. If you are like me, you won't be able to wait the next book.
This was definitely a bit of a better read than its predecessor, though mostly because I found the premise more intriguing, and find Hew to be a smidgen more of an appealing character than Gellir. I was into it from the start, all in my feels over poor Hew nursing yet another broken heart from yet another woman, and wondering how things started and advanced with his lady love Carenza, who of course I met in book #1.
As usual, the pluses were still great pluses: the writing style, characters, and pacing were all wonderful. The premise, as I mentioned before, was intriguing, and it was fun to see Hew doing his thing to distract himself from the ladies (unsuccessfully). He was quite the charmer, and Carenza, a sweet delight. Both of them were likable and had good chemistry that I found believable, despite being a bit lacking in development (which leads to my complaints).
Because yeah, there's unfortunately many areas not fully developed here. There was a lot of time-jumping going on, which wouldn't even be that bad if the budding relationship between Hew and Carenza wasn't so often placed INSIDE of those jumps. I'd much rather be shown a thing than told it, and there was a lot of telling going on. Furthermore, even though I did like the premise overall, it too suffered, though not from underdevelopment, but from lack of fulfilling resolution.
Once things meshed with the events of the previous book, it was only mildly better, but even THAT felt sorta rushed and underdeveloped thanks to time-jumps. Eh, it just felt like there were shortcuts galore going on for this one, and my appreciation of the story suffered a bit as a result. Still, as per usual, I'm not affected in any way from wanting to move forward to the final entry of this series. Hopefully, it can be the best of the three? Let's find out.
A pet cow brought them together, and they would find the love of a lifetime. However, they lived at a time when royalty and clan leaders decided marriages. They were both pawns in the hands of lairds and kings. Could they defy convention and make their own destiny?
Hew and Carenza kept me entertained throughout the book. There was adventure, a mystery to solve, humor, a lady with a heart of gold, and a passionate warrior. This author and her books are a delight. I look forward to reading what she writes next.
This highland historical romance has very unusual characters. Our warrior hero has a weakness for the ladies. Our heroine loves all animals and is very soft hearted. This is an amusing story filled people who have secrets to hide. Clan responsibilities are important, but sometimes personal ones are more so.
This is part of a series, but each book is easily read on its own. They are all exciting and action-packed. I've really enjoyed all the ones I've read so far, and I look forward to more.
what can I say 3 nights and I was done, would have been less but work beckoned, Glynnis has hit it out of the ballpark again, the storyline was her normal above average standard, I felt like I was in the storyline with all the characters I have loved from previous books, I cannot wait for the next installment,
OMG 😱 this was a steamy page turner and the suspense was incredible intense. It was TOO HOT that you couldn’t stop reading as you turn the pages. Who knew that marvel time can be sensational of passion and lust with romance. I definitely recommend this book and you won’t be disappointed. I am visiting voluntarily leaving my honest opinion. Set in one of my favorite time periods, Carenza and Hew fall in love while solving a mystery only to have obstacles complicate their plans for the future. I loved the antics Carenza got up to, but Hew’s determination really made this story. He was such a loveable character!
As before Glynnis, has written another beautiful book. The description of each place and player in this book is fabulous. I could not put it down and can hardly wait for Laird of Smoke!
LOVED this enchanting medieval romance between Sir Hew du Lac of Rivendale and Lady Carenza of Dunlop. Filled with intricate plot twists, endearing pets, fiendish monks, steamy romps, and charming bits of humor, this Scottish Highland romance is pure delight!
Another well written story. I love all the characters. The weaving of story lines from generation to generation now is fun. At some point, I may need a family tree...
I forgot how much I enjoy a good historical romance. Rivenloch warriors are the cream of the crop. I enjoyed Lady Carenza and Hew's story of love and adventure. Location - Scotland. A story complete with Lairds, romance, knights, family and even a pet coo. I would recommend this series.
Marvelous characters that you follow and fall into their story. Twist and turns that keep you intrigued to the very last page. Don't miss this wonderful story.
Another adventure with the Rivenloch clan. Both Hew and Carenza needed to find each other. Really loved their mental and spoken dialogues. Love Conquers All. To the next one.
I absolutely loved the mysterious side of Laird of Flint. Laird of Flint shows you that temptation is everywhere. I recommend this to everyone. Hew and Lady Carenza's love is one for the ages!
This is a truly exciting story. The characters are delightful. Hew is a warrior who loves to fall in love. Carenza is the Laird’s daughter and a maiden who loves animals. Readers will love the plot of the story as Hew searches for a criminal and tries not to fall in love. You will find yourself smiling as you meet all the animals and see all the antics that Hew and Carenza get into. This is surely a story that readers will want to add their library and read to see the wonderful story of Hew and Carenza.
1. HANDSOME, STRONG, AND BRAVE MAN 2. PRETTY, SMART, AND STRONG WOMAN 3. MUTUAL ATTRACTION BETWEEN THE 2
IN THIS NOVEL, HEW DU LAC(WHO IS HEATBROKEN FROM A FAILED ROMANCE) MEETS LADY CARENZA OF DUNLOP.
THEY'RE ATTRACTED TO EACH OTHER. I HESITATE TO GIVE TOO MUCH AWAY BUT IT IS AN ENJOYABLE READ.
I LIKED IT, WELL WORTH READING.
IF YOU READ IT, BE PREPARED TO TRAVEL BACK IN TIME TO AN ERA WHERE THINGS ARE QUITE DIFFERENT THEN NOW, BUT AS FAR AS THE HEART GOES, LOVE WILL HOPEFULLY STILL CONQUER ALL.
