Having really enjoyed some of this author’s recent books, I was excited to read the start of this new series! Based on Laney’s friend group I would say this is going to be a 4 to 6 book series, which is fun. Kenzie, a SWAT medic; Jesslyn, a fire marshal, Kristine, an air marshal; and maybe even Allison, a doctor, and Stephanie (who I’m not sure what she does?).
I liked Lainie because she was realistic in the way she reacted and responded to everything that was happening and what she was going through. I really liked a certain scene of her standing up for James. I do wish she would have carried her gun on her where she could, as that could have helped in some cases. She told him her story (with domestic violence) very fast, but I guess it was okay because they kind of already knew each other because she’s his little sister’s best friend? It just seems like a lot of information being thrown at us at once, but it wasn’t too much to handle, which I appreciated!
It really felt like my brain was working overtime trying to figure things out and who was bothering Lainie. I had figured part of it out (the reason) but not all of it (the who). One piece of the puzzle felt a little too convenient at the end and the ending was a little off to me (they made a decision that didn’t feel like a smart one, but it all worked out because of the people they were with), but elsewise was very intense most of the time. I’m obviously not a violent person, but I would have liked to join James in smacking a certain person. ;)
So while this book is not a new favorite by this author, I did really enjoy it. Definitely has a trigger for domestic violence, stalking, PTSD, and panic attacks, though. Because both main characters have PTSD from past events and we see it on-page. Older girls that aren’t extremely sensitive to those topics and like suspense books, may really enjoy this one. I’m looking forward to Kenzie and Cole’s story releasing later this year.
*BFCG may (Read the review to see) recommend this book by this author. It does not mean I recommend all the books by this author. *I received this book for free from the Publisher (Revell) for this honest review.

This is my third book by this author and she’s now an auto-read author for me.
This romantic suspense with great emotional depth is one you’ll want on your reading list!
I was gifted this copy by Revell and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.
Lynette Eason has done it again, another edgy, suspenseful read with a romance brewing amidst danger and action. PA Lainie Jackson has PTSD from her former fiancé Adam Williams. He tried to kill her but as they fought, she got the gun and shot him. He died. Why is he now showing up at the hospital or different places. He even ran her off a mountain road. Her best friend's brother, Detective James Cross, is someone that she has had a crush on since she was a young girl. When he showed up in the ER after being shot at a hostage situation and she treated him, she mentioned what was going on. Thankfully, his vest took the brunt of the bullet. Former military, James also suffers from PTSD. He and Cole, his partner, set out to keep Lainie safe and find answers. Someone wants her to think that Adam is alive by erasing all records of his death. She knows he is dead. Right? James and Cole have doubts. This book has twists, turns, and quite a mystery to solve. I am looking forward to the nest in this new series where we read Cole's story. Highly recommended. I received a copy for the purpose of an honest review. All thoughts are mine only.
Double Take by Lynette Eason - 5 Stars - Book 1 in the Lake City Heroes Series
I loved this story! A great start to a new Christian Romantic Suspense series!
- Fast paced suspense story - The best friend's brother trope - Nice faith thread - Crazy storyline of being stalked by your ex-fiancé that you thought was dead
In this story, we have detective James Cross who works with the Lake City Police Department. He has a lot of crazy family dynamics going on so he's rooming with his friend and partner Cole. Cut to Physician Assistant Lanie Jackson who is 18 months post her attempted murder by her ex, which ended when she managed to grab the gun and shoot him. He's been dead this whole time....or so she thought......is he back to finish the job? Crazy things start to happen where they are questioning if he is alive or dead and James steps in to help solve the case and protect Lanie.
I loved this because James knew Lanie for most of his life as her best friends brother and the connection they had was great. I loved seeing them reconnect and the romance threads grow throughout the suspense. I definitely want to read the next book in the series! Bonus for a great narrator via audiobook.
Edit... i just listened to it again with my husband. Narration was spot on. Great suspense.
"Whoah!...wait!..what?!!" This book had me thinking that all throughout the story. I'm trying to think of ways to describe it. Romantic - suspense - thriller-mystery combination. I was on the edge of my seat and couldn't believe what was going on. From the very beginning, I was hooked. I loved the characters. Bless their hearts. Especially, sweet Lainie. And James is a true sweetheart hero. This book is a favorite of mine from the author. I'm so excited this is a series because I can't wait for the next one. I recommend to all romantic suspense thriller lovers who enjoy inspirational reads. *I was given a copy of this book by the publisher, and this is my honest opinion.
Lynette Eason is one of my favorite romantic suspense authors. She knows how to deliver an intriguing story, and Double Take was no exception.
Lainie and James were both sympathetic characters who grew a lot over the course of the story. Their traumatic backstories added to the plot, and their romance was sweet.
The plot had plenty of action, suspenseful moments, and twists to keep my attention. Speaking of the plot, it was pretty thrilling. I don't think I've read a book like this one before.
I appreciated that Lynette Eason kept both the romance and language clean, and I enjoyed that the characters trusted God.
Overall, I found Double Take to be an exciting read that I'd recommend to those who enjoy Christian fiction and romantic suspense. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
Disclosure: I received this book free from Revell through Interviews & Reviews. The opinions I have expressed are my own, and I was not required to write a positive review. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.
Literally struggling so hard to find the words for this book right now, but I need to review this before too much of it leaves my head. Just, Wow... Like I'm still thinking, What in the world?!!! From page one all the way to the end pages, the craziest, most jacked-up stuff was going down. It would honestly be easier to do a visual/audio review of when I was reading this because I kept gasping, talking out loud (doesn't usually happen unless I'm riveted and totally absorbed by the story), and struggling to breath as the suspense and creepy danger just kept ratcheting up. Also, take it from me, DO NOT READ THIS IN A DARK ROOM BEFORE SLEEPING like I regrettably did-it was just so stinkin' hard to put down!- unless you are in law enforcement or something and used to nutso people and the junk they pull. I found the plot and main character very relatable to me personally. I resonated with Lainie's heart for people and her journey in learning healthy boundaries, and I also really appreciated her career in the medical field as that is what I hope to get into as well. I also found the domestic violence element to this story very well written and James' character was a great example of a supportive, protective, and godly man. He had his own family drama as well, and I loved how Lainie and him both supported each other through those messy dynamics. I think the author did a phenomenal job of communicating that you shouldn't stereotype people because of past experiences with evil people and just the whole process of healing from abuse and PTSD (which James also struggled with) so well. I can't wait to read the next book very soon, and I wish I would've picked up a book by this author sooner! She did such a great job of combining heart-pounding suspense, an important topic that was handled with empathy and truth, a great group of people whose stories I can't wait to read, and strong elements of faith, strength, and prayer. Definitely an author I now have an eye out for now and a new favorite series!
🚨TRIGGER WARNING: lots of content on domestic violence, stalking, and panic attacks.
Marvelous book! It was a fast paced tale of events that had me intrigued as to why and who; no tedious moments to urge myself to continue here:) The old verse about the LOVE of money being the root of all evil ran true for what extent some people will go to achieve it. Likeable characters (other than the villians of course), no maddening miscommunication. A very enjoyable read with many spiritual elements sprinkled throughout. I can gladly recommend this story!
Buckle up! Get ready for nonstop action, suspense, romance and mystery as Lynette Eason weaves another fantastic romantic suspense story that’s impossible to put down. It’s the beginning of a new series and I’m so excited for more.
Lainie Jackson is a physical therapist who was engaged to the wrong guy. Right off the bat, the book begins with an intense scene where we find out how Lainie escapes his clutches and he dies. Or did he? Skip forward 18 months later and Lainie is just starting to put her life back together. She gets in a car accident and thinks she sees her ex-fiancé who’s supposed to be dead. It’s clear someone is out to get her, but is it Adam or someone else?
Detective James Cross has known Lainie, his little sister’s best friend, since she was a child. He’s back in Lake City, North Carolina working as a police officer after being honorably discharged from the army. When he meets up with Lainie again, he’s impressed with the intelligent, attractive woman she’s become. When it’s clear her life is in danger, he does all in his power to protect her and discover who is out to get her.
I loved Lainie and James! Both had complicated family relationships and I enjoyed how they helped each other deal with difficult family members. They were so good for each other and so encouraging. I loved their romance and watching their relationship change over the course of the book.
The suspense was so good! It was nonstop with so many fantastic twists and turns throughout. Just when I’d thought I’d figured out what had happened, I was thrown for a loop. It’s intense and I guarantee it’ll be hard not to read in one sitting. Now I can’t wait to get Cole’s story, James’ friend and fellow officer.
Highly recommend to romantic suspense fans! It’s an amazing start to an exciting new series. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided.
I cannot turn my mind off after reading this book. Thoughts are ricocheting in my brain. I have had an internal argument with myself repeatedly for the past 24 hours - yes, he is alive. No, he is not alive. Someone is posing him, and then I would start over again. This book had a brilliant plotline that kept me guessing right up until the very end.
Detective James Cross and PA Lanie Jackson are thrown together in this tense mystery. Lanie survived an attack from her ex-boyfriend. She ended up shooting him in self-defense. He died, or so she thought. Now it seems he is back for revenge, but Lanie knows he died or did he? If he is alive, she wants to know how. If he is not alive, she wants to know who wants her dead. Both characters make a dynamic duo as they are on the run for their very lives as someone wants Lanie to die. This vengeful person knows things he should not know about Lanie, which makes the case even more eerie. James and Lanie both have battle scars from their past which they are fighting daily as well. Their faith is stretched as they try to find their bearings and find some sense of normalcy in their lives all while fighting to stay alive.
This was an enthralling blend of action, intrigue, suspense and romance inside a strange mystery that had me scratching my head and arguing with myself. If you like mind games and puzzles, you will love this one. I lived inside this book for 2 days as I worked my way through it, only stopping to work and sleep. This is a fantastic new start to what I believe will be another great series.
Thank you to Revell Books and the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This one definitely has a psychological twist as main character Lainie sees signs that her deceased former fiance is still alive. She questions her sanity and yet has to pursue leads to see what is really going on.
Detective James Cross is a childhood friend of Lainie's and they partner together to solve the mystery. Lots of twists as the tale unfolds.
I look forward to the next in the series.
My gratitude to publisher Revell for a complimentary copy of the novel. I was not required to post a review and all opinions expressed are my own.
This one started with a bang (literally) and had me hooked from that opening scene! Holy Moly! Talk about fast-paced and intense throughout the whole book. I didn't want to set it down when life called to me but I did and was happy and eager to pick it up again when I had reading time.
Lainie and James were great main characters. Both of them have some baggage from their past. Lainie's is definitely more apparent because the story revolves around her and her dead ex-fiance. Yikes! Get ready for some craziness to have you guessing and re-guessing all the things in this book. I thought I had it figured out and then there was another twist. A friend of mine introduced me to Lynette's books the end of last year and I have been hooked ever since! I'm excited to start this new series and can't wait to see who else will be featured in the following books.
James and Lainie make a great team. I loved seeing how they were brought back together. And how they knew each other previously. Definitely wove more storyline into this great read. I loved the chemistry between them and was happy to watch their friendship build and grow into something more. The family aspects were well written. Sometimes a little emotional but added great depth to the story.
Grab your copy and clear your schedule because you won't want to stop once you start (now I'm sounding like an Pringles ad but you'll understand once you pick it up)!
Content: Clean. Christian fiction suspense. Some intense moments of peril, fighting, guns, gunshot wounds, death, etc, talked about. With all of that it wasn't overly graphic and I thought written very well. I'd let my older teens read this.
I received a copy from the publisher, Revell, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
Are you literally kidding me? Perfection . PERFECTION!!! I don’t know if it was the suspense or the tension that best friends brother gives but literally this was PERFECT!!! I loved the friend group and just overall the themes of this book!!!!! JAMES AND LAINIE!!!!!
Lynette Eason's "Double Take" is a Christian romantic suspense novel that packs a powerful punch of action, tension, and emotional depth.
Beyond the suspense, "Double Take" delves into crucial themes of learning to trust again and establishing healthy boundaries, especially when faced with complex family dynamics. The characters, James and Lainie, not only grapple with external threats but also confront their inner demons. James, a former military detective, and Lainie, a civilian physician assistant, both wrestle with PTSD, adding depth to the story and shedding light on the challenges they face. Lainie's long-held feelings for her best friend's brother, James, introduce a layer of complexity to their relationship. (Secret crush romance trope enthusiasts rejoice!). Witnessing these two broken individuals find healing and love adds emotional depth to the story.
Nevertheless, "Double Take" has its flaws. While the suspense is skillfully maintained, the identity of the villain remains concealed for a significant portion of the book. Readers might find that crucial clues are revealed only late in the story, leaving them yearning for more insight into the antagonist's motives and identity. Despite this, the book's overall appeal remains intact.
In conclusion, "Double Take" by Lynette Eason is a gripping Christian romantic suspense novel that will captivate fans of the genre. With its action-packed narrative, high-stakes tension, and exploration of trust, boundaries, and healing, it offers a well-rounded reading experience. Ideal for readers who enjoy the works of authors like Elizabeth Goddard, Lisa Harris, or Patricia Bradley, this book offers a captivating blend of suspense and romance, leaving you eagerly anticipating the next thrilling installment.

So I’m reading this out of order. I read the second one first…lol, but here I am. Um, wow, okay, what a prologue. 😲 This was an intriguing story! Lainie and Cole were a bit odd even though she was getting with James so I didn’t really like that interaction. 🤷🏼♀️ This book had me hooked. Is her ex-fiancé dead? Or is he alive? 🤔 I was like tell me already! 🤣 I enjoyed seeing Lainie around James and his siblings! I do admit I was disappointed in the end which caused me to rate this book 3 stars instead of 4. I don’t know how Adam’s half brother would look like a twin to him and more like him than his own biological brother. That just didn’t seem very realistic and also the fact that he just appeared out of nowhere. Another thing that caused me to lower the rating was the couple mentions of Adam’s things being at her house and hinting that Lainie and him might have already been living together before they were married. Yeah, um, no. With that being said, this book was definitely better than the second one!

Whoa!! This new series by Lynette Eason is off to a stunning start in Double Take! It’s delightfully twisty and mind-bending with some psychological thriller elements, harrowing suspense, and a swoony romance, too. Not to mention the complicated family dynamics, solid friendships, and the separate traumas that both protagonists are still working through. There’s so much to sink your reading teeth into in this book, and I’m still thinking about the wild ride that Eason appears to effortlessly direct from beginning to end.
The prologue kicks us off with a bang, getting my heart rate up right from the start and barely letting it get back to normal until I had turned the last page. If it wasn’t because of the creepy guy who by all appearances seems to be Lainie’s ex … the ex who tried to kill her in the opening scene & who she knows she killed in self-defense that night (except… maybe she’s not so sure after all now) … then my heart was pitterpattering from the delicious chemistry between Lainie and James. Or the gunshots. Or the going-off-of-cliffs. Or the … well, needless to say, you will want to keep reading this book (perhaps with the lights ON) once you start, so be prepared to stay up until the wee hours of the night to finish if needed. I consistently went back and forth between ‘yes he’s definitely alive’ to ‘no, he can’t possibly be’ and finally settled on ‘i don’t even know’ and enjoyed the process.
Lainie and James make a great team, and I loved that they had a long history as friends, practically growing up together with James’s sister & Lainie being BFFs (and Lainie having a crush on James all that time). This allowed us to get past the ‘getting to know you’ formalities and on to the ‘hey I’m seeing you differently all of a sudden’ shift that James is experiencing, and it also lets them be more vulnerable with each other than they might have been otherwise. Considering their respective family issues and PTSD (neither of which go away while trying to keep Lainie safe), having a familiar and safe place to land is critical. Eason has given these two protagonists such deep layers and dimension, and the fact that their relationship brings out the best in each other (and smooths out the rough edges in each) is icing on the cake.
Bottom Line: Double Take is Lynette Eason at her best, and readers are sure to be captivated by the race to figure out who wants to see Lainie dead and why. Smart plotting, action-packed suspense, well-developed characters, and sweet romance made this a truly enjoyable reading experience for me, and I devoured it in one sitting. Which is a good thing because I could not have put it down if I’d wanted to. The faith threads – including some life lessons applicable to anyone – stayed organic to the characters and never felt preachy or forced, allowing the story to flow smoothly from the adrenaline-pounding prologue to the sweetness of the last chapter and every part in between. In short, I absolutely LOVED this book and I think you will too! Already eager for the next one!
(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book)
Lynette Eason knows how to craft romantic suspense. The story starts out with a bang and keeps up the intensity and fast pace until the very end. James and Lainie are super cute together and I quite enjoyed the big brother of best friend trope. Both James and Lainie have dealt with major trauma in the past and this commonality brings them together, among many other things. I liked the villain's voice that pops up in the storyline, which added a different dimension to the plot. The thread of true forgiveness and unconditional love weaves throughout the interactions James and Lainie have with their respective families. The adrenaline-filled race to find the dangerous stalker had me on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading. I loved the secondary characters and am totally invested in finding out what happens between Cole and Kenzie in the next book.

What if... someone you believed dead was stalking you?
The premise, like the entire premise of this book...I was hooked trying to figure this out. It was such a wild ride and the twist ending. Eason had me. She really di, caught me completely off guard.
Characters: Lainie, whom I loved! She's the most relatable female character that I've read in a few months, for me, and that's saying a lot because I don't usually relate with the FMCs. The way Lainie wants to be their for her family but doesn't know the best way to do that... I get that. James... my heart went out to him. And he was so awesome! I thought his PTSD was going to play a more central role because of how soon it was mentioned in the book, but I'm not upset that it didn't. The story was still great, as was his arc. So I'm happy. Cole is like the best friend! I can't wait to read his and Kenzie's story!
Language: N/A
Romance: Brief kisses.
Violence/Gore: Just mentions of injuries and gunshot wounds. Nothing super detailed.
Overall: I loved this book! Probably my favorite Eason read yet! Recommend ages 16+
Suspension of disbelief is beyond the pale. Too many scenarios are impossible. Lynette Eason has become a favorite author of mine but this installment lacked the suspense, thrills and chills. Disappointing.
It has been years since I’ve read a Lynette Eason book and I forget how much I appreciate her! With an almost constant reliance on God and a plot that kept me guessing, it’s exactly the kind of suspense book I like.
I puzzled out the details behind the bad guy wrong, but loved how it actually played out.
The romance was a best-friend’s brother and childhood crush story. It was sweet.
I love how the next book is set up in this book. I picked up book 2 immediately.
Thank you, Netgalley and Revell, for an ARC of this book! The opinions in this review are entirely my own!
This book is a great start to a new series! There were multiple occasions where I thought I had figured out what was going on, but then something happened that made me question it. I often asked, "Can it really be this obvious?" Well, let me tell ya, yes and no. Lynette Eason would never make it easy to figure out what's happening. I was right with some deductions and off with some others. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

Very grateful to @librofm for this ALC, opinions are my own.
I say this every time, but Lynette Eason’s books just never disappoints, and this story had me guessing and confused throughout the whole book. I do not know how Lynette Eason does it, but each new series and each new book has a plot I never read before.
An author that gets this right and keeps me in suspense, is an author worth on your TBR.
With a stalker, which might or might not be a deceased ex, this story kept me up till late in the evening. I loved every second I spent time with the characters and am looking forward to the series.

3.5 ⭐️ This was a fast paced book and I enjoyed the main character and her love interest. There were parts that I found hard to believe which is where I struggled a little. There were very light Christian themes. Overall it was enjoyable.
4.5 stars! Eason has penned a strong first book in a new romantic suspense series. In true Eason fashion, she launches right out of the gate at break-neck speed and it never slows down! A true page turner or in this case, audio binge! I think the narrator did a good job and kept me listening and hanging on by a delicious thread. Highly recommend!
Double Take by Lynette Eason is the first book in her newest series, Lake City Heroes. I am already anticipating book two!
What a fantastic start to a new series! I had a hard time putting Double Take down. From the explosive beginning to the stunning end, the book is engrossing.
Lainie is still trying to recover from killing her ex in self-defense when he starts showing up in the oddest places. She wonders if she hallucinating or having some weird relapse in her recovery to suddenly be seeing him. Regardless, someone is trying to kill her, and he looks an awful lot like her ex.
James is hurt in the line of duty, landing him in the hospital and reconnecting with Lainie. Lainie always had a crush on James and had no idea he was back in town. When he realizes Lainie is in trouble, he makes it his mission to keep her safe.
I did not see the bad guy(s) coming. I can't tell you my exact thoughts without giving something away. This story takes dysfunctional families to another level. It is full of imperfect people living imperfect lives in a messed-up world. I loved this book and again, can't wait for book two, Target Acquired, to be released.
Physicians Assistant Lainie Jackson lived through a nightmare 18 months ago and it has come back to haunt her, when she thinks she sees her dead fiancé, Adam Williams. Someone wants to scare her and possibly wants her dead. But toying with her mentally brings help in the form of Detective James Cross, the brother of her best friend. Exciting from the first page, this story was non-stop danger, difficult family dynamics, with the faith of Lainie and James being tested but standing strong. Lots of unexpected twists and turns kept my interest and I finished the book in record time. It held breathtaking scenes like I was watching a movie. A thrill packed start to a new series that is sure to please fans of romantic suspense. *I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell on behalf of the author.
