A husky puppy grows up over a couple of seasons of conditioning and training until she is ready to pull a sled as part of a dog team. The young woman dog musher was drawn in a realistic way, but the dogs had a cartoony appearance that didn't really jibe with the other illustrations.

This was a fun book for my children to learn about how Alex dogs are raised and trained starting when they are puppies.

We loved the authors note at the end as well.

Yukon is the only female in the litter of four huskies. She is also the only red and white pup so it’s easy to spot her among the other gray and white pups. Roberta trains all the puppies to be racing sled dogs. But she notices that Yukon is faster and smarter than her brothers. But Yukon has a lot to live up to because her mother is the lead sled dog. Unfortunately there is not enough tension in this story. Training a husky pup to be a good sled dog is a big challenge, especially with a smart, energetic pup like Yukon. Presnall made the training look too easy. Her Author’s Note at the end provides information about the history and sport of sled dog racing, and is a good discussion starter. On each and every page Elliott’s brilliant illustrations capture the true nature of Siberian huskies as happy, active clowns and make “Yukon: Sled Dog” is an irresistible book for young readers and dog lovers.

Good story of Yukon growing up to be a sled dog. Nice artwork will capture the eye, and young children will enjoy reading the story of Yukon (or having it read to them). This book was available as an Amazon Prime library book.

Learning about Yukon provided great insight into what it takes for the dogs to prepare for racing, even showing the dog on a "hamster wheel". It really shows the dogs love running.

Awesome

From my 8 year old. I like the brothers and sister Yukon. I like how they finished second but I wished they would finish first. I would like to learn more about huskys.

Ordinary storyline

There wasn't much of a story line. While the story was informative it missed a plot and a narrative that could capture children's imagination.
