Όσες περισσότερες υποθέσεις της Ομάδας Α διαβάζω,τόσο περισσότερο εκτιμώ και θαυμάζω την μοναδική πένα του Arne Dahl! Σε κάθε βιβλίο είναι ολοφάνερη η εξέλιξή του,τόσο η συγγραφική όσο και σε ό,τι αφορά τους χαρακτήρες που τόσο αριστοτεχνικά έχει πλάσει.
Αυτή το φορά η υπόθεση έχει και άρωμα...Ελλάδας,μιας και το πρώτο θύμα είναι ένας Έλληνας νταβατζής που βρίσκεται νεκρός σε ένα ζωολογικό κήπο. Με αφορμή αυτό το γεγονός,ο δηλωμένος φιλέλληνας Dahl αναφέρεται συχνά στην ελληνική μυθολογία, την οποία άλλωστε χρησιμοποιεί για να πλάσει τον σκελετό την ιστορίας του και κάνει πολλές αναφορές ακόμα και στις τραγωδίες του Αισχύλου! Το μόνο που με ξένισε λίγο ήταν το ότι σκιαγράφησε τον Έλληνα ήρωά του σύμφωνα με τα στερεότυπα: κακόγουστο ντύσιμο,χοντρή χρυσή καδένα στον λαιμό,δασύτριχος... Συγνώμη κύριε Dahl,αλλά η πλειοψηφία των Ελλήνων-ακόμα και των παρανόμων-δεν κυκλοφορεί πια έτσι! Αν σας ενέπνευσε ένας συγκεκριμένος άνθρωπος για τον συγκεκριμένο χαρακτήρας σας,μάλλον θα έπρεπε να στείλετε κι αυτόν μια βόλτα στον λάκκο των αδηφάγων. :Ρ Παράλληλα,ένα μέρος της υπόθεσης εκτυλίσσεται και στην Ιταλία,αλλά και σε άλλα μέρη της κεντρικής Ευρώπης. Μιλάμε λοιπόν για ένα βιβλίο εντελώς 'ταξιδιάρικο'!
Κι εκτός αυτού,άκρως συναρπαστικό! Πραγματικά,είναι αξιοθαύμαστος ο τρόπος που ο συγγραφέας καταφέρνει να "συναρμολογεί" ένα παζλ που αποτελείται από δύο ή τρεις ή και περισσότερες άγνωστες υποθέσεις,που μοιάζουν αρχικά εντελώς άσχετες μεταξύ τους,αλλά στην ουσία πρόκειται για όψεις μιας μεγάλης,σοβαρής,σημαντικής και περίπλοκης. Είναι κάτι που κάνει σε όλα τα βιβλία με τις υποθέσεις της Ομάδας Α - εν μέρει πιστεύω και για να ασχολούνται τα μέλη της,που έχουν διαφορετικούς χαρακτήρες,με το κομμάτι που ξυπνά κάτι ιδιαίτερο στον καθένα τους και να υπάρχει ποικιλία. Είναι δηλαδή ένας ακόμη τρόπος για να ξεδιπλώνει το ταλέντο του και στην ανάλυση/περιγραφή/ανάπτυξη διαφορετικών χαρακτήρων την ίδια στιγμή (ή εναλλάξ,σε πολύ γρήγορους ρυθμούς) και να μην αφήνει τον αναγνώστη να ξεκουραστεί ούτε λεπτό. Αντίθετα,τον αναγκάζει/παρακινεί να βρίσκεται συνέχεια σε εγρήγορση,προκειμένου να μην χάσει τίποτα απ' τα όσα συναρπαστικά,αναπάντεχα και αποκαλυπτικά συμβαίνουν ταυτόχρονα.
Μπορώ να πω πως τα "Μπλουζ της Ευρώπης" είναι από τα βιβλία της Ομάδας Α που μου άρεσαν περισσότερο. Έχω επαναλάβει πως,όσο προχωρά η ανάγνωση και νιώθω πιο οικεία με τα μέλη της,τόσο περισσότερο μου αρέσουν και οι υποθέσεις της Ομάδας Α. Αυτήν εδώ όμως την ξεχωρίζω ιδιαίτερα και για τη θεματολογία της. Ο ναζισμός και το εμπόριο λευκής σαρκός είναι δύο ιδιαίτερα ευαίσθητα θέματα. Κι εδώ ο Dahl αναφέρεται ενδελεχώς και στα δύο,αποτελούν ουσιαστικά τον κορμό όλου του βιβλίου,και όμως πουθενά δεν ξεφεύγει από τα όρια,δεν γίνεται υπερβολικός,ούτε καν τόσο δα απρόσεκτος. Και δεν μπορώ να μην τον θαυμάσω ιδιαιτέρως γι' αυτό!

Europa Blues – An Examination of the Forgotten Past
Arne Dahl is one of the best Scandi crime novelists with a huge amount of fans across Europe, as he is not afraid to tackle taboo subjects in his thrillers. Once again he does this in Europa Blues which was written in 2001 but only recently translated in to English that looks in to the dark heart of Sweden, its war neutrality and hiding in plain view. Europa Blues takes us from Stockholm, to Italy and various points across Eastern Europe.
An unknown Greek gangster has only recently moved to Stockholm and is causing problems already, but he ends up being murdered in unusual circumstances by the wolverines of the Skansen Zoo who consume most of him. While elsewhere in the City eight Eastern European women, who have been trafficked in to the sex industry have vanished from a refugee centre outside of the Stockholm. An elderly science professor is murdered in a Jewish cemetery, with tattooed numbers on his arm.
All three crimes are going to be investigated by The A-Unit shortened from the National Crime Investigation Department’s Special Unit for Violent Crimes of an International Nature. A team of detectives that had been busy over the previous year. These experienced and cynical detectives started out investigating three separate crimes with the aid of a colleague who is using inherited money living in Tuscany.
As the investigation deepens and they contact various Police Forces across Europe a bigger picture of what they are investigating becomes a little clearer even if at times a little confused. It is when they have to look deeper in to what happened during the Second World War things do become a little clearer even if it also challenging the long held view of Sweden’s neutrality during the war and that was an enabler with its own fascist problems at that time.
Things start to come together and the picture becomes clear when the Greek gangsters murder is a message to a Milan crime family known as Ghittone makes the murder seem like poetic justice if not a little savage. Especially as there seems to be a team of female ninjas who are running across Europe taking revenge on the murder victims and sending various messages.
As the A-Unit investigates further what does become clearer to the team is that everything is related to the war and medical research, and an unknown murder victim with no nose sometime back in the 80s. Through police work across Europe and using modern technology will the answers final arrive even if one of their number ends up having a pistol forced in to his mouth.
For a crime thriller the reader is always asked a few questions, about what do we really care about, would you really care what happened to refugees if they just disappeared, and were removed from the country. It also asks the question of do you really know what your family did during the war; do you have a clear conscience? As well as historic crimes, ghoulish crimes of the present there is still a fair amount of humour in the thriller.
Europa Blues is a further example of why Arne Dahl is considered as one of the best Scandi Crime Writers out there, and I cannot recommend this highly enough.

EUROPA BLUES is the first of Arne Dahl's books I've been fortunate enough to read and it definitely won't be the last. A combination of a slightly eccentric, dedicated and very determined investigation group full of strong individuals, who work as a team; and a confrontational and some very pointed crimes and their backgrounds, perpetrated for very believable reasons made this novel a stand-out read.
When an unknown Greek gangster is murdered and then disposed of in the wolverine enclosure of a local zoo, the likelihood of even identifying him, let alone resolving the questions of why or who killed him seems pretty remote. As does the likelihood of working out any possible connections between his death and the disappearance of a number of Eastern European women from a refugee centre outside Stockholm. When an elderly science professor is then murdered in extremely bizarre circumstances, in the centre of a Jewish cemetery, this really does seem like a series of disconnected and extremely odd occurrences.
The Intercrime unit (or A-Unit as they are known) is a special unit put together to investigate violent crimes with international aspects. Which is a wonderful creation as whilst the unit might feel feasible, there's much in it's management structures and membership that is most unexpected. And many of the members seem particularly comfortable in that sort of working environment. They are, however, a ruthlessly efficient bunch of cynical, analytical and experienced cops who are not at all afraid to follow a hunch.
Well balanced within the strong characterisation, there's an intricate plot that falls into place seamlessly, incorporating questions and observations about many societal questions along the way. The disappearance of refugee women, the increasing problem of women from struggling economies being lured into sex-trafficking, and the gangsters and organised crime behind it are part of the current day problems explored, as are aspects of more recent European history and connectivity that seem to be an ongoing discussion in many of the Scandinavian Crime Fiction books this reader has been fortunate enough to encounter.
There's a lot to catch up with if you're starting out with this series at EUROPA BLUES as this reader did. It doesn't create a problem in getting into the style and tone of the writing, nor in picking up on the personalities and working relationships of the A-Unit. It may, however, create a stacking problem as there are other books available in this series, with the very distinct possibility that they'll be creeping to the top of the reading pile very soon.

Ωραία ιστορία αλλά θεωρώ κάπως κουραστική την αφήγηση (ήταν διαφορετικό από τα άλλα του βιβλία).

Today on the deep dive into my to-be-read pile I came across Europa Blues by Arne Dhal. His was a name I had seen come up countless times on Sancdi noir to read. So I guess at some point I must have snatched up a copy of this to dip my toe into his fictional world. Not to mention the fact that his books were turned into a tv show back when that was more of a rarity, so that had to have been good to start with. Once again somehow I managed to get one that is not the start of a series. maybe this is just a bookworm thing we get over-excited by a blurb and before you know it you're walking out the shop with a bag full. Some day I may just learn to check but you know what the plot sounded great and I can always go back to the start at a later date.
Although coming in on book four of the series I quickly got to grips with this group of detectives. There are your usual staples but then again I suppose he too is reasonable for a few of them becoming such. But what it did mean for me at least is that I had a foot in the door so to speak. Whilst obviously on a much grander scale than real life they did seem to have that natural flow of a group of people who've known each other for some time. They have their struggles but you know that when it comes to their job they will all pull together by the end to bring the perpetrators to justice. He has managed to give them a perfect mix of following the science without being afraid to follow up on those little things that itch at the back of the brain. It allows the narrative to have more of a tv feel to a real-world look at policing. Also, maybe in part due to the hydra of a case, it meant that a larger group of people could be involved outside of the unit. So whilst the author bounces us around Europe we get to meet a vast array of the good the bad and the ugly. Ether way Dhal managed to bring each of them to life in a plausible way. His characters feel like people you might pass in the street or those you might know.
As for the story it was one I could really get my teeth sunk into, not only spaning multiple countries but also taking us back in time to some of their more troubled pasts. And whilst this might just tread a few boards that have been walked before I think he managed to bring a slightly new direction to it. It helped to have these three supposedly separate cases to work with. It allowed the author to shine a light on a litany of wrongdoings whilst blending in a few more themes or in fact genre to the usual breed. It just goes to show the skill he has as an author. But then again I suppose he is one of the tops of his field so you would kinda hope so. For me, the way he weaves these different strands almost seems to be effortless. As if this was the natural outcome of events set in motion so very long ago. And whilst I may have worked parts out before reaching the gripping climax I was still taken aback by a few moments. And I think that is the key to such works. If I work out every strand before the end it starts to feel a little pointless. But for Dahl, it would seem he like to let us at least find the edge pieces to a bigger picture.
Overall, I can clearly see why Dhal has gotten to where is in the literary world. He shows his mastery of the mystery novel. Taking a bit from here and there and delivering a coherent story that at first glance might seem very separate by conclusion fall together like a charity shop puzzle. By which I mean whilst we get to see the overall image there are still a few bits missing and not quite wrapped up in a bow. So much like real life, you could say. Either way is an author that would be perfectly happy to jump back into his work any time.

Στην αρχή δεν με είχε ενθουσιάσει. Αλλά πρός το τέλος που έγινε η σύνδεση των ιστοριών πραγματικά ήταν αποστομωτικό. Επίσης του δίνω ένα παραπάνω συν διότι το είχε ξεκινήσει στην Στοκχόλμη, οπότε ήξερα τα μέρη όπου αναφερόταν και αυτό σου δίνει άλλη αίσθηση.

Πολύ καλό αστυνομικό σχεδόν τόσο καλό όσο το ''μίσος και αίμα''. Η αρχή του με την καταδίωξη στο πάρκο εκπληκτική. Η υπόθεση αγγίζει δύο από τα μεγαλύτερα προβλήματα που έχει η Ευρώπη σήμερα, το trafficking και την ατιμωρισία παλαιών και νέων Ναζί. Δε με μπέρδεψαν τα ονόματα μια και είναι το τρίτο βιβλίο της ομάδας άλφα που διαβάζω. Η μετάφραση πιστεύω ότι είχε κάποια θέματα και η λέξη Ερινύ απλώς να ήταν μισοτελειωμένη αλλιώς είναι βλακεία. Για το αν μπορεί ένας έλληνας νταβαντζής να ξέρει τη λέξη και τι ακριβώς ήταν οι Ερινύες υπάρχει εξήγηση: Ο Notis σε ένα τραγούδι λέει ''οι ερινύες με κατατρέχουν''

✒️ Το συγκεκριμένο αστυνομικό μυθιστόρημα, που τυγχάνει να ‘ναι και το πρώτο που διάβασα από τα βιβλία του Άρνε Νταλ, μου τράβηξε την προσοχή από την περίληψη στο οπισθόφυλλο. Το πρώτο θύμα είναι Έλληνας και μάλιστα εκπρόσωπος του υποκόσμου, ο οποίος καταδιώκεται και καταλήγει νεκρός σε ένα ζωολογικό κήπο.
Η δεύτερη υπόθεση που καλείται να εξιχνιάσει η ομάδα Άλφα, είναι η εξαφάνιση οχτώ γυναικών από την Ανατολική Ευρώπη, σ’ ένα κέντρο μεταναστών έξω από την πόλη. Και σαν να μην έφτανε όλο αυτό, η ομάδα ειδοποιείται να ερευνήσει τον θάνατο ενός ηλικιωμένου που βρέθηκε κρεμασμένος ανάποδα σ’ ένα δέντρο στο εβραϊκό κοιμητήριο, έχοντας στον καρπό του αριθμούς στρατοπέδων συγκέντρωσης. Στοιχείο το οποίο παραπέμπει σε ιστορικό εφιάλτη, μιας και αποκαλύπτονται τρανταχτά στοιχεία για τα βασανιστήρια και τα πειράματα που έλαβαν χώρα εκεί. Τα τρία διαφορετικά στόρι λίγο πολύ αρχίζουν να συνδέονται, με την ομάδα Άλφα να δραστηριοποιείται και σ’ άλλα μέρη της Ευρώπης.
Τα δύο ευαίσθητα θέματα που διαπραγματεύεται ο συγγραφέας στο βιβλίο αυτό, είναι ο ναζισμός και η μαστροπεία, όπου και τα θεωρώ βασικό κορμό του μυθιστορήματος. Η πλοκή είναι ενδιαφέρουσα, και η μυθολογία δίνει μια άλλη τροπή στην εξέλιξη της υπόθεσης, και στη λύση αυτής. Σε γενικές γραμμές, μου άρεσε η πένα του συγγραφέα αλλά δεν ενθουσιάστηκα αρκετά με την αφήγηση, κι αυτό γιατί σε κάποια σημεία δεν με τραβούσε. Δεν έρεε γρήγορα όσο θα ήθελα, με αποτέλεσμα να κουράσω και τα μάτια μου διαβάζοντάς το ηλεκτρονικά. Από την άλλη, είναι και θέμα γούστου, κι εφόσον έχω το Misterioso σε πόκετ, λέω να δώσω μία ευκαιρία ακόμα στην ομάδα Άλφα. 😁

Εξαιρετική ιστορία, προβλέψιμη εξέλιξη από τη μέση του βιβλίου και έπειτα, άνιση έως και εξαιρετικά προβληματική μετάφραση κυρίως στα πρώτα κεφάλαια, βεβιασμένες και φλύαρες πολιτικολογίες αγνώστου αφηγητή. Παρ' όλα αυτά είναι Dahl και δεν τον προσπερνάς εύκολα. Ιδίως όταν μιλά για μία από τις σημαντικότερες πληγές της Ευρώπης σχετικά με τη δράση του οργανωμένου εγκλήματος: Το trafficking in human beings και την πορνεία τα οποία μπερδεύει με αριστοτεχνικό τρόπο με τη μοίρα των ναζί δολοφόνων μετά το τέλος του Β' Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου. Σε κάποια σημεία θυμίζει ολίγον από Γκρανζέ αλλά είπαμε: Όλα είναι γραμμένα, η πατρότητα ανήκει σε αυτόν που το κάνει καλύτερα.

Arne Dahl is one of my husband’s favourite authors, but until now, I hadn’t read any of his books. Now I am hooked too. Arne Dahl throws everything at this book: holocaust survivors; Eastern European prostitutes; a Greek pimp; Finnish winter war hero; Italian mob royalty; Sweden’s hidden history; Greek myths; a ninja feminist; and if that were not enough, some coked-up wolverines. It is a truly European affair, with corpses all over the continent. The various threads are slowly but surely brought together, via a multitude of twists, in a thrilling piece of story-telling.
The characters are very well portrayed, and particularly the Swedish A-team police, interact beautifully and believably with each other.
The normal prose of a crime novel, describing the characters’ actions, is interspersed with almost poetic, dreamlike sequences, as individual characters drift in and out of reality: “His thoughts were practically running away from him. This from the man who was normally so good at damming the flow and digging channels to allow his thoughts to pour in the right direction. Now, though, they were more like the Danube delta”. At first, that comes across as rather weird to the reader, but then you realise that that is the way our minds actually work. Normally our musings are kept private and not written down – here, Arne Dahl treats the private and the public as equal.
There are frequent references to the space-time continuum: “Time seemed to be taking a siesta. It was moving as slowly as treacle”. It is of a particular worry for one policeman, Hultin, who is faced with intimations of his own mortality. But soon time is causing everyone existential problems: “He was forced to cross an enormous, terrible gap in time. He was balancing on the narrow plank, crossing the abyss. Step by step, swaying, he made his way across”; “Why am I describing time in such detail? Because soon it will no longer exist. Because the next bomb will fell it. Because it is already trembling in the breeze. Because time is about to die”; “Time had started moving more sluggishly. It would probably be possible to relax a little at the weekend. But time was also being difficult. It wasn’t acting like normal. It was probably out of sync”. Luckily by the end of the book “The black hole in the space–time continuum was starting to fill up. And the spanner in the works, the fundamental error in their thinking, was fast approaching. Time was starting to right itself”. That was a relief.
Apart from the existential questions, there are moments of humour and also moments of clear social conscience. The book asks us to evaluate when we decide whose fate we care about: “the fact that they had discovered the women’s disappearance was entirely dependent on their believing it was a case of asylum seekers going underground. That was when they reacted. That was when it was decided that the country was at risk of becoming impure. If eight prostitutes had simply disappeared from the streets of Stockholm, no one would have batted an eyelid”, and when we decide that the truth must be told. The book ends with: “He was standing on top of bodies in order to see Paradise. And he wasn’t alone. He was an entire continent”.
I loved this book and would recommend it to everybody – my husband is already queuing up to read it.

Το βιβλίο μου άρεσε πολύ και μου κράτησε παρέα στο ταξίδι μου στο Άμστερνταμ, όπου αρκετές φορές, περπατώντας στην πόλη, συνέλαβα τον εαυτό μου να σχεδιάζει μεσημεριανές ολλανδικές σιέστες με το βιβλίο ανά χείρας!
Η ομάδα Α, με ένα από τα μέλη της ξενιτεμένο, καλείται να λύσει ακόμα ένα μυστήριο. Το ξενιτεμένο στην Τοσκάνη μέλος, ο Άρτο, προσφέρει μια νότα δροσιάς στην πλοκή, δια χειρός συγγραφέα, ο οποίος τοποθετεί στο μεσογειακό τοπίο μια ολόκληρη οικογένεια με άσπρα μαλλιά, κάτασπρα δέρματα και προοδευτικές απόψεις. Στο τέλος, ο Άρτο καταφέρνει από μακριά να βάλει τα πράγματα σε τάξη...
Η πλοκή του βιβλίου ήταν πολύ ενδιαφέρουσα και την έκανε περισσότερο ενδιαφέρουσα η σύνδεση ιστορικών στιγμών και γεγονότων του παρόντος και του παρελθόντος.

Η ιστορία ξεκινά με έναν Έλληνα αλυσιδάκια (έτσι λέγαμε στην εποχή μου τους άντρες που φορούσαν χοντρές χρυσές καδένες στο λαιμό ή στο χέρι) ο οποίος ρουφάει κοκαϊνη σε ένα παγκάκι πάρκου και οραματίζεται την κυριαρχία του επί της νέας πόλης που έχει εγκατασταθεί.
Ο συγγραφέας, σε αυτές τις πρώτες σελίδες, περιγράφει πολύ υποβλητικά, μια ολόκληρη καταδίωξη και ένα θάνατο χωρίς ουσιαστικά να μπορεί να καταλάβει ο αναγνώστης τι ακριβώς συνέβη.
Σε αυτό το αρχικό κομμάτι της πλοκής, ο συγγραφέας έκανε ίσως ένα μικρό ατόπημα. Βάζει τον Έλληνα κακοποιό να γράφει τη λέξη Ερινυ, η οποία αποδεικνύεται στη συνέχεια ότι είναι η λέξη Ερινύες, οι θεότητες της εκδίκησης, οι οποίες τον καταδιώκουν για να τον τιμωρήσουν. Κάποιος έπρεπε να εξηγήσει στον Νταλ ότι αποκλείεται ένας κακοποιός να ήξερε τις Ερινύες, διότι ήταν απασχολημένος με τις παρανομίες όταν θα έπρεπε να λάβει σχολική παιδεία. Εδώ αμφιβάλλω αν και στις κανονικές σχολικές τάξεις, ένα σύγχρονο παιδί ξέρει ή έχει διδαχθεί περί Ερινυών και Ευμενίδων.
Πολύ έξυπνη ήταν στο τέλος η σύνδεση όλων των γεγονότων περασμένων και τωρινών. Ο Άρτο παραμένει η ευχάριστη νότα του βιβλίου αλλά γίνεται και η φωνή της λογικής κάπου στο τέλος.
Τα ονόματα δεν είναι να προσπαθήσεις να τα προφέρεις καν. Τα σκανάρεις απλώς με το μάτι και αποτυπώνεις την οπτική τους για να μπορείς να πορεύεσαι στη συνέχεια.
Το μεγάλο μπέρδεμα δημιουργείται με τα 3 γυναικεία ονόματα από Σ, Σίλα, Σέρστιν, Σάρα και σε κάποια στιγμή Στίνα. Και βέβαια με τις εναλλαγές επιθέτου και μικρού ονόματος. Μέχρι να καταφέρεις να συνηθίσεις τα μικρά, εμφανίζονται μια τα μικρά μια τα επίθετα.

I always find it interesting when I really love a book, that others don;t like it at all :)
So, "to me" - the characters grow with each book in the series - their characters become even stronger. I love the history elements in the books - I learn a lot about things that happened from a different point of view. Here in the US we have been taught one version of history while there are much different versions elsewhere
Also, the crimes and the investigation into how they occurred, I found fascinating.
I ccan;t wait to read the next book in the series :)

De reeks die Arne Dahl schreef gaat naar mijn gevoel in crescendo. Het A-team dat ook in dit vierde deel opduikt wordt met het verhaal menselijker. Het verhaal waarin zij flaneren even menselijk, maar dan in zijn wreedheid. Eeuwige wreedheid: toen en nu!

Handlung
Schon wieder ist ein Jahr seit den Ermittlungen zu „Falsche Opfer“ vergangen. Routine macht sich breit bis die Leiche des Professors gefunden wird. Während die Mitglieder der A-Gruppe in alle Richtungen recherchieren, stoßen sie auf den sonderbaren Modus operandi. Es zeigt sich, dass die Spuren nach ganz Europa und zu den dunkelsten Geheimnissen der Vergangenheit führen.
Charaktere
Die Hauptprotagonisten der A-Gruppe entwickeln sich auch im vierten Buch dieser Reihe vor den Augen des Lesers weiter und werden dadurch nahbarer. Ich mag diese verschrobenen Charaktere unheimlich, die alle ihr eigenes Päckchen zu tragen haben, und dennoch als Team immer besser harmonieren.
Schreibstil
Bei Arne Dahls Romanen handelt es sich um Kriminalromane, die sich durch ihr sprachliches Niveau von anderen Thrillern und Krimis ganz klar abheben. Dies gilt auch für „Tiefer Schmerz“. Was mir im vierten Teil sehr gut gefällt, ist die Spitzzüngigkeit, das Augenzwinkern und der immer wieder aufblitzende Sarkasmus, die mich das ein oder andere Mal zum Schmunzeln bringen.
Fazit
"Tiefer Schmerz" lässt sich deutlich leichter lesen als die Vorgängerromane, unter anderem dadurch, dass keine übermäßige Anzahl an Charakteren auftauchen. Und obwohl jedes Buch dieser Reihe einen in sich abgeschlossenen Fall behandelt, empfehle ich, die Romane der A-Gruppe in der chronologischen Reihenfolge zu lesen. Mitzuerleben wie die Ermittler sich privat und beruflich entwickeln, das ist für mich die herausragendste Eigenschaft dieser Krimireihe. Daneben ist dieser Fall sehr spannend und mitreißend, von mir also eine klare Empfehlung!

Bei Arne Dahls Romanen handelt es sich um Kriminalromane, die sich durch ihr sprachliches Niveau von anderen Thrillern und Krimis ganz klar abheben. Dies gilt auch für „Tiefer Schmerz“. Was mir im vierten Teil sehr gut gefällt, ist die Spitzzüngigkeit, das Augenzwinkern und der immer wieder aufblitzende Sarkasmus, die mich das ein oder andere Mal zum Schmunzeln bringen.
Fazit
"Tiefer Schmerz" lässt sich deutlich leichter lesen als die Vorgängerromane, unter anderem dadurch, dass keine übermäßige Anzahl an Charakteren auftauchen. Und obwohl jedes Buch dieser Reihe einen in sich abgeschlossenen Fall behandelt, empfehle ich, die Romane der A-Gruppe in der chronologischen Reihenfolge zu lesen. Mitzuerleben wie die Ermittler sich privat und beruflich entwickeln, das ist für mich die herausragendste Eigenschaft dieser Krimireihe. Daneben ist dieser Fall sehr spannend und mitreißend, von mir also eine klare Empfehlung!

Vier Verbrechen ereignen sich in Stockholm, die zunächst wenig mehr verbindet als ihre zeitliche und räumliche Nähe zueinander. Die Gruppe A der Stockholmer Polizei, zuständig für Straftaten mit internationaler Dimension ahnen Zusammenhänge, verzweifeln aber auch an Rätseln. Die Spuren führen in das Milieu des Frauenhandels und der Zwangsprostitution, aber auch in die KZs der Nazis.
Der Roman fängt sehr gut an, die Ermittlungsarbeit der verschiedenen Teams sorgt für Spannung und die Hintergründe sind interessant. Die Charaktere der Ermittler erhalten Raum, dominieren aber nicht die Handlung und wirken durchaus plausibel. Die typische skandinavische Sozialstaatskritik scheint zwar manchmal durch, hält sich aber in Grenzen. Für schwedische (weniger internationale) Leser sicher interessant (und vielleicht auch unbequem) sind ein paar historische Ausflüge in eigene ideologische Verirrungen in der Nazi-Zeit

Det är väl någonting mytiskt i förhållande till förintelsen med svenska skribenter. När de ska beskriva ondskan renodlat och vill ta i ändå från tårna för att göra det hela så djävulskt ont som möjligt, så finns det inte sällan en historisk återkoppling till ett nazistiskt koncentrationsläger, där någon av vakterna överlevt och nu sprider sin ondska vidare i modern tid. Och det fungerar oftast.
Arne Dahls tredje deckare handlar som vanligt om några till synes osammanhängande mord där den skickliga A-gruppen, som löser särskilda mord med internationella relationer, finner sammanhang och historiska återkopplingar med ibland extremt eleganta metoder där allt blir så tydligt att detta ”bara” är en deckare och ingen verklighet. Det är väl dessa sistnämnda nämnare som alltid behandlas intelligent och skickligt, vilket får Dahls deckare att hamna ovanför mängden. När det dessutom i den här boken sprids ut en del överraskningar genom den andra halvan blir slutet snudd på en hisnande upplevelse.
Det finns förstås några sämre delar, de otroligt sadistiska morden och de ganska övermänniskligt intellektuella poliserna, men man störs ganska lite ändå. Vi har väl ändå lite för många överviktiga ensamma män som huvudpersoner i svenska deckare, vilka man slipper här.

This has been one of the best foreign translated book I've read in a while .
It's a very good crime thriller . It starts rather gruesomely with a Greek gangster arriving in Stockholm , who is then murdered in macabre fashion at Skansen Zoo , his body consumed by animals .
The intercrime unit start to investigate not only his murder , but also eight Eastern European woman who have vanished from a refugee centre , also an elderly professor executed at a Jewish cemetery .
These three crimes has one team of detectives on an investigative journey that's has them covering Europe cities and delving back into history to find answers .
This has been such a gritty read , the main character Arto is a good intriguing character who discovers awful goings on during nazi prison camps in the war .
It's an intellectual novel as there is a lot to read and keep track of with the three crimes and characters .and history ,
The characters are well fleshed , interesting as they work together . It's a book I've not been able to put down due to the plot . It's a book I recommend and I'll be looking out for more in the book series !

Der vierte Band aus der A-Team-Reihe von Arne Dahl hat eine ganze Menge zu bieten. Während wir natürlich viele Einblicke in das Privatleben der Ermittler erhalten, bekommen wir viele Recherchefakten geliefert, sogar philosophische Betrachtungen fließen ein (und diese führen unweigerlich zu einigen Längen), aber auch an Spannung fehlt es nicht sowie jeder Menge Wendungen und einem hohen Anteil an Action.
Der Fall ist in sich abgeschlossen und kann auch unabhängig von den anderen gelesen werden, wobei natürlich das Private und die Entwicklungen der Ermittler auf der Strecke bleiben, sollte man nicht die Bücher der Reihe nach lesen. und die Ermittler sind wirklich die Besten der Besten in ihrem Metier. Es macht unheimlich Spaß, deren Ermittlungsarbeit zu begleiten 👍
Das Cover passt zu den vorangegangenen, der Schreibstil ist zudem humorvoll und lässt sich flüssig lesen.
Ich gebe 85/100 bzw. 08/10 Punkte.

"Tiefer schmerz" ist das vierte Buch der Reihe um die A-Gruppe von Kerstin Holm und Peter Hjelm. Langsam macht sich ein Muster erkennbar und ich bin mir nicht so sicher, ob ich dieses Muster mag. Es sind immer sehr viele verschiedene Fälle die sich irgendwann zu einem Fall werden und dieser dann sehr schnell gelöst wird.
Ein Krimi muss nicht immer super realistisch sein, aber ich darf auch nicht das Gefühl haben, dass der Krimi dann nun auf einmal komplett an den Haaren herbeigezogen ist und genau das ist er mit den Rachegöttinnen und der Verbindung zwischen dem Mord an einem Zuhälter und dem Mord an einem jüdischen Gehirnforscher 55 Jahre nach dem Holocaust.
Prinzipiell schafft es aber Arne Dahl dennoch die Spannung stets hoch zu halten und entsprechend das buch auch gut abzuschliessen. Es ist was es ist. Einfache Kost mit der man sich die Abende verschönert, die aber nicht sitzen bleibt. Wie ein einfacher Krimi im Fernsehen.

This was a Saturday Slaughters selection from the Orkney Library. We read it in translation by Alice Menzies. The book was initially published in 2001 and wasn't available in English translation until 2015. Mr Dahl's geo political foreshadowing was scarily prescient, much of what he described has unfortunately come to pass. Although remembering that this is a work of fiction, the sexual trafficking of women and children all over the world has worsened. However, all is not bad in Mr Dahl's world the bad guys get their comeuppance which I heartily enjoyed. His writing is lovely with a philosophical bent. This was a very interesting book, totally unlike any police oriented book I have read to date. This is not a quick and easy airport book stand read. This takes time to savour, and in the beginning to keep all the characters straight. Recommended.

Europa Blues is another well written but too long crime about the A-group of the Stockholm police investigating murder of an old jewish scientist. Dahl writes well though, managing to somewhat renew the crime genre. Competition is tough though and it's hard to see why one should read this book rather than the crime classics. Perhaps 2/3 of the 390 pages are just character-building rather than connected to the actual story. 3 hours worth of reading charcter building is too much for me, but it is what many like about Arne Dahls books. And the form is quite original.

Prostituees verdwijnen en er is een dagboek wat de zoon van de professor in bewaring had. Wat hebben de moorden met elkaar te maken. De nazitijd komt terug omdat de professor een nummer vanuit Buchenwald op zijn arm heeft. Het A-team gaat met de verschillende 'leads'aan de gang. Het einde is verrassend.

Όπως πάντα έτσι κι εδώ η ομάδα Α έχοντας πια και την Σάρα σαν βασικό μέλος καλείται να λύσει διάφορες ασύνδετες υποθέσεις. Ο τρόπος που συνδέει όλες τις υποθέσεις μέχρι το τέλος του βιβλίο δε θα πάψει ποτέ να με εκπλήσσει. Ο Άρτο όντας σε διακοπές στην Τοσκάνη θα αναλάβει να βοηθήσει την ομάδα του σε συνεργασία με τις ιταλικές αρχές. Ο καθένας από την πλευρά του προσπαθεί να βρει την άκρη του νήματος.
Η πλοκή του βιβλίου ενδιαφέρουσα όπως πάντα και η αναφορά στην μυθολογία δίνει στο βιβλίο μια άλλη τροπή στην έκβαση της υπόθεσης και της λύσης της. Ένα πολύ καλό αστυνομικό με μια υποσχόμενη έναρξη. Η καταδίωξη στο πάρκο σε προϊδεάζει για το τί θα επακολουθήσει.

Exceptionally fine nordic noir. Starts with many seemingly unrelated crimes, but the story builds momentum as these come together in startling revelations. The writing is full of irony, pathos, dark humor and crystally insightful takes on human nature. The interaction of members of the A-Team is delightfully clever; the characters come alive and endearing. Enjoyable as a stand-alone, but enhanced by the previous volumes in this series.

Loved it! Very satisfying. Pretty much got the conclusion before the end but still a great read to see it unfold. More talky and philosophical than usual but that was great and interesting, and I love the main characters' developement and their interactions. Often quirky and amusing. Love this writer.

Das Ermittlerteam der A-Gruppe ist schon ein spezieller Haufen. Sehr menschlich, sehr natürlich und mit viel Charakter. Nicht immer im Recht und nicht immer sympathisch, aber das macht sie umso echter. Ein spannender Kriminalfall und ein etwas melancholisches Ende. Eine schöne Lektüre, wenn auch teils etwas heftig.

Intriguing story. Even if I knew halfway some of the truth. And even though I have read a lot of books where WW II plays a role.
I would like to highlight the piece where he writes about the general Swedish attitude towards the holocaust. That is really spot on!!!
