This series is awesome and this new Christmas book definitely didn't disappoint!

These books are great for newer readers! This series was the gateway for my youngest daughter getting into enjoying to read. It is a graphic novel that is full of fun and comedy that helps kids to not view reading as a chore and just enjoy the entertainment of the book.

This book took on Christmas with pizza and tacos usual silliness. A perfect book to lighten up the mood during the holidays and really anytime! My daughter can't wait until the next book!

Thank you to Random House Childrens and Netgalley for providing me a copy of this ARC for my honest review.

I truly thought that I had read one of the books in this series before and enjoyed it, so it was a bit of a surprise to find out that I had not actually read any Pizza and Taco before. The book is fun and an easy read for someone who is just starting out with graphic novels. The artwork is bright and sharp, and there aren't a lot of words. I think of this as a variation on the whole Narwhal and Jelly series because it's probably aimed at the same audience.

Having worked the odd book fair, where kids were rushing to buyNarwhal and Jelly, I know that parents are frustrated sometimes with the fact that these books have limited text and so are not necessarily going to improve reading. But teachers of my acquaintance have said that any reading is better than no reading, and if your child likes a specific series or book, it's worth getting for them. That's how I would feel about Pizza and Taco. If my son or daughter were interested in reading the books, sure, there isn't a lot of text for them to read, but they are choosing a book over TV or video games and that's a win for me.

The story was fun. Things moved along well. And I did appreciate that there was a lesson to be learned in terms of the two friends asking for things for Christmas and not necessarily getting everything. And being happy for each other because one seems to get more than their friend.

All in all, a good read for someone who is an early reader and also not bad as a read aloud.

YAAAS! As the holiday season approaches, Pizza and Taco are up to their usual tricks. In this, their eighth outing, the two friends carefully make their Christmas lists of the gifts they want to receive. But they are also aware that their actions are being watched by Santa Slaw, and they better be on their best behavior if they want those presents. The days to the great unwrapping pass slowly with the two of them trying their best to demonstrate their worthiness. For instance, Pizza is outdone by Taco when raking leaves since Taco rakes his leaves, Pizza's leaves, and the neighbors'. What's poor Pizza to do? Eventually, they check out their loot while recognizing that their friendship is the best present possible. As usual, the illustrations are so perfect, including those at Cookie's party. I loved the burger, ice cream cone, and chocolate cake as well as the striped candy cane. How could it not be the best Christmas ever when spent with a best friend? This humorous book would be a good choice for sharing during the lead-up to Christmas. It's just as funny the second and third time around as the first.

Graphic Novel
I received an electronic ARC from Random House Children's through NetGalley.
Taco and Pizza are back for more adventures. This time they are thinking ahead to Christmas though it's only September. Both create massive Christmas wish lists and then work at being nice and helpful so Santa Slaw brings everything they want. Readers see how hard they try, and the illustrator offers a clear look at what they are thinking and feeling through their expressions. This includes Christmas morning when both discover they did not receive everything they asked for. I appreciate Taco's gratitude and gifts he made for his friend, Pizza. Both figure out friendship is most important in the end.
A delightful light and humorous read for mid-elementary level readers. By now, they know the characters so can appreciate their personalities and see how they work together and as rivals to be their best.

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Children’s Books for a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This was a cute read! I read it with my two and five-year olds who both enjoyed it as well. We’ve never read any of the other books in the series, but are currently on a graphic novel kick, so we will probably check them out!

The illustrations were colorful, eye-catching, and clever. The dialogue was cute and age-appropriate.

The only thing I didn’t like was that I wished a lesson had been learned at the end. Instead of Pizza and Taco just being disappointed they didn’t get everything on their list and finding camaraderie from the other one also not receiving everything on their list, I wish there had been a discussion with the parents or some sort of realization to be thankful for what they were given.

First sentence: Pizza! Pizza! Pizza!

Premise/plot: It may just be September, but Pizza and Taco are ready for Christmas. They must prepare their letters to Santa Slaw early so they both have time to get on his nice list. The two friends write letters listing everything--and I do mean everything--they want for Christmas. But writing it on a list is no guarantee that you'll get it! (As these two ultimately learn).

My thoughts: Their eagerness for Christmas is certainly relatable. This one is a fun enough read for young readers who enjoy this graphic novel series for early readers. This is the eighth book. Some have been great. Some have been good. Some have been meh. However, I always enjoy spending time with these two even if the plots here and there get weak in places.

Best Christmas Ever! (Pizza and Taco #8). By Stephen Shaskan. 2024. Random House Children’s (ARC eBook).

It may be September, but that’s not stopping Pizza and Taco from preparing their Christmas List to Santa. How fortunate that they still have time to make sure they are on the Nice List. But maybe the best present Pizza and Taco can receive is their continued friendship.

The illustrations were colorful and entertaining. The readability for the graphic novel format is good. But the ending could have had a more meaningful and layered message about being grateful.

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Children’s Publishing for an advanced read copy of this book!

Both my elementary aged children and my special education students love the Pizza and Taco series so I was thrilled to receive a copy of this book. My 3rd grader plowed through the book quickly and smiled at all of Pizza and Tacos holiday antics. The addition of some familiar side characters and some new ones was cute and the book had a sweet little ending reminding the reader about friendship and thinking of others.

My son loved this book and I know my students will as well. I am looking forward to adding this to my classroom library for a fun holiday read!

This was such a cute graphic novel a taco and pizza who are best friends and about having the best Christmas ever and making sure they are nice and not naughty. They both make a list and while they don’t receive everything they wanted, they learned to deal with that and be grateful for what they received. Also it was so cute to see how they tried to be helpful and show Santa Slaw that they should be on the nice list. The illustrations are great and easy to understand and perfect for 1st or 2nd graders.
Thanks to Random House Graphic and Netgalley for the complimentary copy of this book. All opinions in this review are my own.

4 stars (I really liked it)

I accessed a digital ARC of this book thanks to NetGalley.

This was a really cute holiday addition to the series. Pizza and Taco spend some time (in September) thinking about what they want for Christmas and make a LONG list. Then they realize they have to make sure they get on the nice list and learn that being nice is hard. The end has a message about appreciating what you have and your friendship. I think any kids that have liked any of the previous books in this series will also like this one! Also, Santa Slaw- hilarious play on words!

I get such a kick out of the Pizza and Taco books. They're best friends and silly in the same ways. In this book, they're excited about Christmas way ahead of time because they just know it's going to be great! They start planning and making their gift wish lists and working to get on the good list.
Of course, the conversations and events are hilarious, and nothing goes as planned. In the end, they realize that their friendship is the best gift!
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this

Another fantastic Pizza and Taco book!

While we read these books with my 3 - and 5 year old, it keeps their attention, and they love every second.

This time, Pizza and Taco are writing their Christmas Lists for Santa Slaw. After writing the lists, they realize they have to be nice to stay on the nice list.

Overall, an extremely silly book with bright, eye-catching art. Will be read and reread with extra reads around Christmas. Highly recommend this book and every other in the series.

Read an e-arc from NetGalley.
Taco and Pizza realize that Christmas is just around the corner, since it is September. They start to try to do nice things for others since Santa Slaw, who will come with 8 candy cane deers, is watching. They each make rather lengthy lists, especially Pizza. On Christmas morning they realize that they didn’t get all that they asked for, but the best present is each other.

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Children’s Books for a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

What a cute story for younger kids. I could see my five year old niece loving this and it being a good beginner reader for her. I wish the lesson of loving and caring for each other being more important than getting all the presents on the list was a little stronger but I think it still does a good job getting the point across.

Another great addition to the Pizza and Taco series! As always, I love the simple story line and the unique style of illustration. In this installment, Pizza and Taco are gearing up for the Christmas season. What are they going to put on their lists? Will they make it onto Santa Slaw's nice list? Will they get everything they asked for? Kids are going to love this one!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!

It may seem odd to read a Christmas book in October, but this book actually starts in September so it’s perfect read. Pizza and taco need to get ready for Christmas if they want to get there super long list ready. They must remember to be good and help others with the hope of possibly getting anything on their lists. This of course is an early reader’s chapter book. It’s quite a lovely and fun read that kids are going to enjoy.

Starting in September, Pizza and Taco are being EXTRA GOOD all in the hopes that Santa Slaw brings them everything they want for Christmas. This is a cute, fun tale about materialism, and realizing that all your really need for the holidays is the company of your best pal.

Thanks to NetGalley and Random House for the read.

The more I read this series, the more I think Taco is pretty all right and Pizza is a bad influence. Pizza and Taco make Christmas lists. Pizza's list is a little over the top. Taco has to keep reminding Pizza that Santa Slaw is watching. Taco helps Pizza be more grateful for his gifts. Hmm... Maybe Taco is a good influence on Pizza.
