"I’ve just buried my husband. I was going to divorce him and now he’s dead."

After five years as a military wife, Sienna is moving on. She’s keen to leave behind the misery of her marriage to Rob but for some reason the past won’t let her go. It doesn’t help that her closest friend, Nick, is also a soldier. Unfortunately Sienna is struggling to deny her attraction to the sexy marine, even knowing there can be no future in it. When the injured soldier admits he wants her just as badly, and has always wanted her, the fight to control her feelings becomes harder.

And now she’s learning things about her late husband that surprise even her. When the secrets of Rob’s life come to light, Sienna finds herself involved with some very nasty people and Nick is determined to protect her, no matter what.

As the danger grows to both her heart and her life, Sienna needs to decide if it was the army that was the problem or her late husband. Is Nick worth the heartache of being a military spouse again? And will he be able to protect her from the ring of drug dealers slowly closing in?

Nick was such a darling and I don't think he deserves Sienna. She totally ruined the book.
She is not only stupid and death husband is another douche.

Anyway, if I start ranting, I will not stop....

Just sad that I love military read, and this book ruined everything!
I really think military writing is not meant for the author.

2 all for Nick stars.
Look...I'm not going to rant, okay?
It's tough being a military wife, child, family member, friend, actual member of the military, not everybody can do it...I know that....but I don't want to ever read another story where someone feels about the military the way Sienna did. How can you have your heroes be marines (yes-marines, not soldiers) and then have a main character that clearly does not appreciate the military. It was..frustrating to say the least. And that's me...you know, everyone is entitled to feel how they want and express it, but I don't want to read another one like this...Nick's only flaw was that he was a soldier? (even though he was really a marine) Really? The military dictating his life, these damn army wives, etc....oh God, I wanted to smack her. Mostly because...her issues weren't acutally with the military...it was her douchebag of a husband...I'm ranting, aren't I? I said I wouldn't.
Look, overall, Nick--awesome character...loved him. The little plot aside from the romance, okay, I can dig it. Honestly, with the writing and stuff that was going on, I could totally have seen this getting more like 4 stars...but damn...not only are you hating on the military but you're confusing the branches, too.
Sienna? Nick...seriously man, you could do better. Much better.
I would read more from this author if she in no way mentiones the military, and she finds a decent female character.

I really enjoyed this story. This is told in two points of view- Nick and Sienna.
Sienna is a really remarkable, strong woman. This story starts when her husband Rob dies. Her heads a mess when the secrets of her husbands life comes out.
Nick is a totally brilliant soldier. He's been in love with Sienna for years.
The author did a fantastic job in showing the raw love that Nick has for Sienna.
I'm not going to say much more as I don't want to spoil it for anyone.
I've not read anything by this author before but I'll certainly be changing that.
This story has a great storyline with two brilliant main characters. A must read.

I really liked the characters in the book and I think the story was pretty well written. I also think the storyline was great but there was one big flaw that kept confusing me. The Marines and Army are two separate branches of the military. Rob and Nick are both Marines but Sienna keeps talking about the Army life. Even in the synopsis it talks about the Army life. I thought maybe they were stationed on an army base but I could never really tell. I'm not sure if I'm missing something but being a former Army wife, I know there is a big difference. So maybe if the all the "Army life" references were changed to "military life" it wouldn't be so confusing. Just a thought. Other than that, really good story!

An intense and sexy story of two people with off-the-charts sexual chemistry. He's the kind of alpha every woman, including myself, would love to have in their life. He knows what he wants and doesn't stop till he gets it. A really great story that'll be sure to get you hot and bothered. By the way, whoever that male specimen is gracing the book cover is absolutely, unequivocally smoking HOT!

I can't even finish reading this book. What a waste. What kind of author doesn't do research before and while writing a book? Practically every paragraph she's calling the husband a soldier, Marine, or referring to herself as being an army wife. I'm sorry? Did you think they were one in the same? They. Are. Not. Don't ever call a Marine a soldier, and vice versa. Army are soldiers, Marines are Marines. Oorah! Got it?

I got to page 18 before I had to call it quits. The constant military bashing had me wanting to stop reading, confusing the branches had me wanting to DNR the author.

He’s like an addiction, I think. A weakness in me. I don’t want him but I need him.

I tried, I really did, but I couldn’t get into it at no fault to the story line or the author. This was all me, I am such a moody reader that it probably wasn’t the right time for me to read it, who knows… I may give it another chance later on.

A nice romantic suspense

This story was very good. Siena was a woman who just lost her soldier husband and was determined to be independent and strong. Nick has been a great friend to both her and her husband but who has always wished he had had the foresight to have asked her out first. This story has action, suspense and a whole lot of sexiness. The book is enjoyable.

I'm a pretty big fan of military romance and really enjoyed Not Another Soldier. Nick is a Marine with a heart of gold, injured and recovering from past experiences but he never wavers in his steadfast character nor his feelings toward the one woman who has always eluded him.

Sienna has just buried her husband but his death isn't as devastating as one would think. There's a lot of trauma and hurt in her past and life quickly spirals out of control when she's thrust into a deadly game of survival. The abuse she suffered before has closed her heart off . . . or so she thought.

Well-written and wonderfully crafted, there's plenty to love about this novel. My only real critique is the numerous incorrect and stereotypical typecast roles and gossip portrayed by the author. I hate Nick's only real flaw was that he was a soldier - it made him lovable but not realistic while it made Sienna seem bitchy and entirely too wishy washy. Detracted from the story more than once. Having said that, I adored Nick and was rooting for the two to find their closure and love.

A great addition to your library. 4 solid stars.

Second Chance At 💘Love.

Sienna💃 is a military wife. Only, that ends abruptly when her self destructive, drunken, cheating husband dies in a one car wreck. After five years, she was thinking about divorce, then he was killed.
But always there was her husband's best friend Nick🐺🍆🌋🔫. He was there, being her friend, too. Sienna married the wrong man, it seems clear.
However, she decides she will never be a soldier's wife again, no matter how she feels about Nick🐺🍆🌋🔫, and how he wants her to be his.
How short sighted! But it has to be, to have a premise for this book📑.

One 🌟 for Sienna's crybaby BS.

Alternating first person POVs between the h and H, though the H's didn't feel very masculine (even though he's a marine). The author would have him think something very poetic and sweet, and then try to make it more masculine by having him think that "the guys" would give him grief if they knew he'd thought that. Nth at might have worked once, but repeatedly? It just felt artificial. Also he constantly thought about how strong the heroine was, even though she didn't feel that way. It was almost as if the author hoped that we'd believe it if the hero told us enough times without her having to show it.

The book felt like a military wife's attempt at writing down her issues for a therapy session. It got old.

And the ending. Wow. How unrealistic can it get. .

And a character is introduced late in the book to create yet another opportunity for the h to backslide and But nothing more is heard about this character. No closure on that front.

The writing wasn't too bad, though the editing seems to have gotten careless later in the book. Maybe the editors were feeling the same malaise as I did; I almost didn't bother finishing. The book went on too long. Between the h's wishy-washiness and the anemic bad guy plot device, it was irritating.

Also, the H was supposed to be totally in love with the h, but he admits at the very beginning that he stayed loyal to his BFF, her husband, no matter how horribly the husband treated her. At first he tries to defend it by saying he wouldn't break up the marriage because would never be sure if he was doing it for her or for himself. Who cares??? It was a terrible marriage, and the husband treated her horribly - even if the H didn't know the worst of it. And yet the H knew the rumors about the husband, but still didn't think it was worth stopping the marriage. Or warning the h??? And he claims it was for the h's protection??? How??? And later in the book he says that he no longer liked the husband? It just seemed very inconsistent.

Anyway, at first I thought the book was pretty well-written, even if it used the device of the first person POV to have the characters dump information through their thoughts rather than show us. But as the book went on, the contrivances got worse, I got bored, and my opinion declined.

A Hot, Sexy and Suspenseful Read!

Samantha Holt writes fabulous medieval romances and she has now produced her first full length contemporary romance in Not Another Soldier. Once again she has penned a super sensual read, simmering with sexual tension and hot love making scenes, in a plot containing strong characters, danger and suspense.

The book is a fantastic read, with an exciting but credible plot, characters who you can believe in and great pacing which maintained my interest throughout. As with all Samantha Holt’s writing sexual tension oozes from the page whenever the hero and heroine appear together and the love making scenes are sexy, sensual and sublime. The novel is written in the first person and whole chapters are recounted either from the POV of Sienna or Nick. I felt that this gave the novel a more contemporary feel and also worked well as it allowed the reader to get into the minds and the motivations of the two main characters and view the different scenes through their eyes. The element of suspense and danger in the novel certainly added to my enjoyment. I feel that this author has found another sub genre of romance in which she can showcase her writing talents.

Oh and I absolutely ADORED Nick! He is loyal and honourable and above all single minded in his determination to protect Sienna and to overcome her doubts to ensure that they have a future together. I liked that he was honest with her about his feelings, and whilst respecting her views he never gives up on her and takes every opportunity he is presented with to foster a physical and emotional bond between them. A determined Alpha male, with a heart of gold, is just SO SEXY! He is conscious of the injury to his leg that he sustained whilst serving for his country but loves Sienna even more for the fact that she neither pities him nor puts him on a pedestal for it. Sienna has been through a lot during her marriage and her self-confidence has been eroded. Despite this she is a strong and sassy character. Her attraction to Nick, which she finds impossible not to succumb to, wars with her determination to maintain her independence and she feels that everything is happening too quickly.

If you like your contemporary romances to be sensual and contain strong characters and an element of suspense then this is definitely a read that you should consider. I expect that readers who are already fans of Samantha Holt’s historical romances will enjoy her foray into contemporary romance as well as readers of contemporary romances who are new to her work. I sincerely hope that she will be writing more full length contemporary romances.

A copy of this novel was given to me by the author for the purpose of a fair and honest review.

Synopsis -
Sienna Wright has just buried her soldier husband. While she waited for the soldiers to come to her door to tell her that her husband died in combat, it was the police telling her it was because he was drunk. Now what does she do, she had planned to leave her husband and try to gain some of the self respect that she lost because her husband had a dark side and even after death that dark side is seeping into her life.
Nick Jackson, hot, alpha-male best friend of the now deceased but currently in love with Sienna and probably always has been. He wants to make her see that not all men are like the db of her ex-husband and that he is willing to help her heal from her broken marriage.
Sienna isn't sure that she can love a soldier again and Nick is not sure he can live without Sienna. Will they push each other past their own issues to see what's been in front of them the whole time. Read to find out.

My take -
I loved this book. I will give this book 5 stars. Sienna has every right to be weary because of her marriage and the fact that things happen after her husbands burial that has her on edge. Nick has always been the friend that was there to pick up his best friends wife from the sadness that he knew she had from her husband. I liked how these two were best friends and had known each for years. The attraction they had was felt in the writing.
I love Samantha Holts writing. I think she does an incredible job with showing how people feel and it's not all about the sex but let me say that the sex was yummy too. This book was a great one book read with no cliff hanger and it was very worth reading.

Where to start this review.... I made the mistake of checking out some of the reviews first hand before reading it and I say MISTAKE because it received a lot of 1 or 2 stars and a lot of DNF. But I really liked the synopsis and I loved the cover so I went and stalked the author and found out the book was written from a British Military wife and then I understood why people were so pissed off because the British Military is different then the U.S. Military. The names and the branches are so different and with that in mind I started reading the book and loved it! I mean I really loved it. My heart broke because there was so much going on.

Sienna seems to have it all. She has a loving husband who is in the military and she has a best friend who is in the military with her husband. But behind closed doors Sienna is suffering from mental and physical abuse at the hands of her husband Rob. In public they give a good picture of a perfect couple but behind doors she is secretly planning on divorcing Rob. Then one morning she gets the knock on her door no military wife wants and she is told her husband is dead.

At first Sienna feels nothing but guilt because she was going to divorce him but then she realizes she is free. She will no longer have to suffer from the abuse and can move on and start a fresh life. As she is mourning her husband she finds out that her husband was in some not so nice things and now she is in danger and there is only one person she can turn to and that is her best friend Nick. As she and Nick get closer though she is having second thoughts about being with him because he is still a military man but when he gets hurt she is there for him and she will have to decide if risking her heart is worth it.

Not a bad story. Sienna was too stubborn sometimes which really drove me crazy. I did like that Nick was not your standard romance novel hottie. Nick was injured in the army which meant he had to struggle with overcoming his leg injury. He felt pity from other women which made it difficult to find someone. I liked that he had his flaws which made him appear to me as a real person with possible real issues.

Not Another Soldier by Samantha Holt Not Another Soldier By: Samantha Holt
Can She LOVE Another Soldier, if it's HIM?!!
I'm "Not Another Soldier," or even JUST a Soldier~ I'm HER Soldier...
SHE. JUST. DOESN'T. KNOW. IT. YET!
But, she will, & SOON...
I made the BIGGEST mistake when I met her, I stood back, & I let my buddy make the play I shoulda made...
As a Result, He got MY Girl, & I hadda waste years watching him mistreat her...
Well, he's GONE, & it's finally time to Step Up & Claim MY Girl...
Now, I'm gonna show her I'm "Not Another Soldier;" I'm MORE, I'm gonna be HER Soldier forevermore...
Her Protector, Her Lover, Her Husband, Her Knight in Shining Armor, Her Babies' Daddy... H€LL, I'll be Her EVERYTHING!!!
OMG, what am I thinking...
I just got rid of a horrible Soldier, & Now, his Bestfriend is trying to change the game....
"Not Another Soldier," I just can't do it again!
I'm not cut out for the uncertainty of deployments, trainings, high risk missions, & ALL that Jazz... Ugh!
No MORE!
I don't care if he's HOT as Sin...
I don't care if he takes care of me & makes me feel Sooo GOOD in Naughty ways...
I. JUST. CAN'T. DO. IT. AGAIN!
Anyone.... Just, "Not Another Soldier!"
But, then, he's unflinchingly there, even when I tell him to GO, coming back (OVER & OVER), saving me from danger... which puts Sooo Much into perspective...
Maybe, he's "Not Another Soldier;" Maybe he's MY Soldier, & Just Maybe...
I Can LOVE Another Soldier, if it's HIM!!
I was granted an ARC of Samantha Holt's "Not Another Soldier" via Booksprout; I recommend this book to others based upon its own merits. All opinions expressed within this review are uniquely my own & freely given!
Until next time... Happy Reading!

This is, in one phrase: I fell in love with my friend's wife and I couldn't have her until my friend is dead and now I have to protect her.

Sienna just lost her husband to a car accident and it's trying to cope with the fact that she is now a widow, and she doesn't miss her husband like she should. Nick was Sienna's husband best friend and has been attracted to her for a long time. Now that Rob is not in the picture anymore, he's thinking of how to act on his feelings without scaring her. They are thrown together, even more, when the guys Rob was dealing drugs for, look for Sienna to get their drug or money bag.

This is a fast-paced romance story that was well written and that I enjoyed a lot. Not only the characters are pretty relatable and feel kind of realistic, but the whole premise was so well done that it contributes to me not wanting to put the book down since I started reading it.

There are some aspects of abuse in this story that I think was dealt with in the correct way. Also, the fact that Sienna didn't put up with that abuse even if it was only one time when he was drunk, I truly like it. There is no way you have to accept that just because he wasn't sound in his head at the time. There is also the fact that she tried so hard to keep her marriage going even though she wasn't happy and knew Rob was doing things he shouldn't, meanly other girls.

I would recommend this book to get out of your life for a while, especially if you love a good wounded hero that comes to the rescue of the pretty widow. And you also have some shots fired and some trips to the hospital.

I've found this book hard to review as I did enjoy the romance and the development of them individually and together, it was just the poor research that I had an issue with.

The story is based in the UK but littered with Americanisms. If you are going to base a story in a country you should at least research that country! It's set in the County of Hampshire yet the cover doesn't depict that. Cell, Cops, Freeway, Off ramp and blocks are all used incorrectly and the police elements of the story screams USA and not UK.

For me, if you don't do your research and your editor or beta team don't pick up these errors then you are not only doing a disservice to your readers, but to you yourself as an author. I would strongly recommended that when basing a book in a country you are not familiar with or not used to writing about, then you should recruit Beta readers from that country to help you pick up any errors on inconsistencies that might arise.

I would be happy to read and review an updated version of this book if the above issues were resolved. Again, this has been a hard one to review as I almost never give such a low rating.

First off, I need to say I liked this book BUT, there were times that I wanted to strangle Sienna and tell her to OPEN YOUR EYES and not to let your past prevent you from having a life with Nick. Yes, she has some baggage from her first marriage to the wrong soldier and apparently his deception ran deeper than just the multiple affairs she found out about. Poor Nick, he has loved Sienna since he first saw her the same night his best friend "claimed" her as his conquest. He has secretly loved her the entire time of her failed marriage and finally when "their" time has arrived, he does everything he can to convince her that he is the "right" soldier. Can he convince her before the danger that seems to be surrounding them both takes their life? As I said, I like this book but I did not realize that the entire book would center on the back and forth of the feelings between these two. I wish there had been other content and I felt like the writing was slow but I still recommend the book as a good read.

I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest and totally voluntary review.

I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. I really enjoyed reading this story about Nick and Sienna. Sienna had just lost her husband of five years to a DUI accident. Their marriage had been bad for a while with him cheating and drinking like crazy, get only saving grace thru it all is good best friend Nick. Nick is a soldier as will but he has been recovering from shrapnel ripping his calf up, so he had been around while Rob had been deployed. Sienna leans on Nick after the funeral and they get very close. Things heat up one morning when she is leaving work at the hospital and is attacked in the parking lot, lucky for her Nick was there. Follow them as they learn to trust their feelings and each other. See them face challenges of hidden secrets from Rob that threaten both of their lives. This story great great chemistry and lots of heat. It gives you hope that after a crappy day something good can still happen.

This was a beautiful love story between a soldier's widow and his best friend.

Nick has been in love with Sienna from the moment he and his best friend, Rob, met her. Unfortunately, Rob got the girl, but never treated her right. After his death, Nick seizes his chance.

Sienna is certain of only one thing - she's done being a military wife. No matter how hot her chemistry is with Nick, she just can't go back to living at the mercy of the military. But she can't walk away from Nick, either, and as their romance builds a dark threat looms over them from her late husband's secret life.

There's plenty of steamy action between our lovebirds, in addition to nail-biting life-and-death suspense as they try to survive against all odds. This intense story was truly unputdownable, and I especially loved the HEA and heartwarming epilogue. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

O.M.G - so good!

I received a free copy of this book however all thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.
From the very first page this book drew me in and made it impossible to put down. It truly has everything you need in a good romance story: sizzling sex scenes, bad guys, cops and the ever present; will they/won't they?! The chemistry between Nick and Sienna practically scorches the pages and certainly raises the summer temperature.
My only (small) complaint would be: this is supposed to be set in the UK so why are so many Americanisms used? I.e. Our police are on 999 not 911, and there are a couple of other instances which will give away some plot if I mention. Please pick one country and stick with it!

This is a romantic and suspenseful story. Nick is bold, determined, sweet and engaging. Sienna is stubborn, vulnerable and confused. After her husband, Rob, dies in a car accident, Sienna wants nothing more to do with the military, men or base life. But her husband's best friend Nick, who is military, has been in love with her for years and wants her for himself. And he pushes for a relationship, especially when Sienna finds herself being threatened by bad guys. Initially she gives in to him, but then pushes him away. They are both very surprised when they discover exactly what Rob had been up to, and they need to find a way to survive the consequences.

OMG !!! ACTION PACKED !!!!
I LOVED IT !!!! This military story is fast paced and exciting beyond expectations.
Nick is the best friend of her late husband, Rob died in a drink driving accident.
It is a very bad idea to fall for Nick especially as Sienna realised during her disastrous marriage to Rob that she is not a military wife. What Sienna soon discovers is that Rob was involved in shady dealings.
Now some one is hunting her and Sienna does not know who or why !! There is only one person she can turn to …. Nick ….
I am not going to reveal any more because it will spoil the book for you. I will say GRAB the book and live a little !!!!

Sierra has been burned physically and emotionally by her military husband who just killed himself in a DUI accident. She’s been attracted to Nick, who has been her friend and someone she can lean on for years, but she wouldn’t dishonor her wedding vows even though her husband did and he wouldn’t betray his friend that way. After his death she discovers he has a secret life, one that may get her killed. She and Nick need to find a way to protect her from it before it’s too late. Sienna did blow hot and cold towards Nick though out the book wanting to be with him and then telling him she couldn’t be with another military guy. There was plenty of suspense in this sexy romance.

This is intense. Not only does the story start with a funeral, but we learn the deceased husband (Rob) was not a good man. Sienna is damaged by his treatment of her. Nick is his best friend who has some chemistry with Sienna. The sex scenes are hot, but there were times I wondered just how dumb they could be. When you get assaulted or harassed by a “skinhead” I would think of calling the cops first, but she doesn’t. I liked Sienna and Nick but wanted them to act smarter. The story is well crafted with some interesting turns and an HEA.

A fast paced sweet romance that had mystery, suspense, danger, insecurities, really hot sex with intriguing likable characters. Nick, Rob, and Siennia all met at the same time, and Nick and Sienna got married then ended up being not very nice, dies in a car accident not the military. Nick always wanted her to be his. Sienna having been emotional and physical abused tries to reclaim herself, moves off base but finds out Rob had shady things with danger at every turn.. An enjoyable read with lots of sex along the way, turning pafmge after page with both POV'S.

Struggling to be my self again.

A fast exciting read. Mistakes of being young and not seeing beyond good looks a d charm make her first marriage a nightmare. Just when Sienna decides no more he is killed in an accident. His best friend has always been her best friend also but she needs to become herself again and stand on her own feet. Her best friend wants more can she do that? Then her husband's secret past hits her as she slowly learns about his drug life. I found the book enjoyable. There are some places where some things are stretched but not enough to take away from the story.

Where to start! This book was amazing! It had a bit of everything. Love, lust, denial, action, adventure, and it all worked out in the end. I love the truly human characters. Sienna doubting her strength and abilities. Nick with his single-minded determination. Both are heroes in my book. The trials they go through in such a short time would tear many lives apart and their willingness to find what they need in each other is beautiful beyond words. We all have room to grow as people. If we're lucky we can grow as people with someone we love.
