I know this series gets some slack, but I actually enjoy how lighthearted it is! Considering how angsty Tokyo Revengers , it's great to see some of the characters act like teenagers and fool around. Though I'm sure we're going to get some heartbreak once we learn more about . For now, the story is really fun and I'm looking forward to reading more!

“Tokyo Manji Gang. A well-known and much-feared gang. The first division captain, Baji Keisuke. He’s the coolest guy I’ve ever met. And before I knew it I found myself chasing after him. I felt great. The thing is. I’ll remember this day for the rest of my life.”

After the, quite honestly, disappointing ending of the main Tokyo Revengers manga getting to have this spin-off manga is nothing but delightful and fun.

Baji and Chifuyu's friendship is one of the most heartwarming and interesting friendships of the series and getting to see it from the start, knowing how it'll end, it's so bittersweet, yes, but exactly what I wanted since the moment we first saw them interact together.

Functionally, Chifuyu is our protagonist and, oh my god, he's a lovable idiot. His too earnest and persistent manner brings him into all sorts of shenanigans but they are also quite admirable and end up giving him good results.

I was, however, suffering from a terrible bout of secondhand embarrassment quite a lot in this volume.

“Of a very interesting kind [Chifuyu] it’s the opposite of me. He’s an idiot but he’s also an honest man.”

One of my favorite surprises has been the character of Sato Ryusei who is a total troublemaker but seems like he'll be a lot of fun.

His rivalry with Chifuyu is nothing but entertaining and I just want to see them become like brothers soon enough, as I think they have all the potential to be if not exactly close but care about each other a lot.

So, yeah, this has been a really fun read and I hope it doesn't end too soon.

“Matsuno Chifuyu, 12 years old. I have followed the path of delinquency with all my soul. I can proudly say that it was the right path for me. But in the process of living like this… I overlooked a lot of shit on the road. Although it’s even important not to cause any trouble for Baji-san I still don’t understand what is a ‘normal’ hairstyle!!! But even so, I want to follow Baji-san and I want to learn about his way of life as close as possible. What kind of hairstyle should I have?”

*There is a brief spoiler for at the beginning of my review*
If you haven't read the first 14 volumes of Tokyo Revengers don't read this review.

This story takes place after Keisuke Baji died during the fight against Kazutora.
It starts off with Chifuyu visiting Baji's grave when Baji's mother appears and gives Chifuyu a letter left to him.
The rest of the volume recounts events that lead up to Chifuyu becoming friends with Baji in middle school.
The main series showed a few of these scenes around volumes 7-9 but this mini series shows more details of Chifuyu and Baji's meeting and friendship along with introducing a little backstory on the previous vice president of Baji's squad,Sato Ryusei.
This story arc was entertaining but it some of Chifuyu's actions were a little too much.
In this version of Chifuyu Matsuno he is a diehard fan of Keisuke Baji till the point of it giving me second hand embarrassment.
Chifuyu has become a complete goofball and Baji fanboy in this version of himself.
Every other scene is of him doing something silly or socially awkward in efforts to become acknowledged by Baji or protect him from Sato.
It's almost painful to witness.
What happened to the cool guy of the original series?
He is a little too silly in this version.
It makes sense why he and Takemichi became such good friends in the original series:
They are both very overwhelmingly enthusiastic about who they look up to,very passionate about their goals and loyal.

The story is by Ken Wakui and the art by Yukinori Natsukawaguchi. Please understand that this is a spinoff of the main story and so if you want even further context, the original is needed to fully enjoy the series. With that said, this is an ambitious and better spin-off then most, or at least it is beginning this way. I believe you get a taste of characters that did not receive enough spotlight in the main series and are getting their time in the sun now with this series. Good solid stuff and the beginning of this series is looking very promising.

So I accidentally read this, not the first volume of the regular run of the manga. This is a side story and doesn't have a lot of the elements that are most exciting from the main run, best as I can understand it at least. This manga tells the story of how a couple main gang characters get to know each other and join together and kick lots of butt together. I didn't care for it much, but it was good Japanese practice.

We basically knew about their childhood friendships. As boring a cash-grab as I figured. Cute to see all the pudgy scrappy kids, the designer starting in the home-ec club, and the black cat not drawn too realistic at least.

I didn't pick this one up as soon as I got it because I was a little bit afraid it would be sad, but it ended up being a lot more goofy than I expected. I'm not sure how many volumes make up this spin off, but it's basically the story of how Chifuyu ends up in Toman after meeting Baji.
