With step-by-step projects that are designed to help sharpen artists' skills and heighten their confidence, this book demonstrates simple techniques for rendering the textures of everyday objects, such as metal, wood, plastic, hair, fur, feathers, and more. This 64-page book simplifies the process with easy-to-understand instructions and comprehensive illustrations.
This drawing how-to book focuses directly on texture, with the use of various pencil leads and points, as well as the artful use of artist erasers. The author, Ms. Cardaci, has written other books in the series. This book focuses on drawing textures, in portraying landscapes, still life, animal art and people portraits. The author shoehorns in quite a lot in a 60-page book, to her considerable credit.
A few points off for the eye strain font used in the captions for the illustration examples. (Rating 3.0-4.2 stars/ 5.0 stars).
Quite a nice little book on drawing textures such as fur, fabrics, trees, fruit etc., with a pencil. There are a number of worked examples taking us step by step through the process for a botanical study, architecture, animal (dog) and portrait. Normally I would have kept this for a reference but my book collection is getting overwhelming so I'm donating it to charity. I give it 3.5 stars.
I got this book for my birthday one year, and it completely changed my entire perspective on texture in a graphite drawing. She intricately explains the strokes, materials, and techniques behind drawing complicated textures so that the picture looks real, and her instruction in shading is unparalleled. I would recommend this book to anyone needing help with texture or shading, and absolutely love it.
