Hayley DiMarco is the best-selling author of over 30 books, including God Girl, Mean Girls, and Die Young. She and her husband, Michael, run Hungry Planet, a company focused on producing books that combine hard-hitting biblical truth with cutting-edge design in Nashville, Tennessee.
This book was excellent. I learned so much. I've always attached purity to one area if my life. This book helped me realize purity isn't just one area its my entire life. When you strive for purity and allow Christ to make this possible every area in life is affected, not just certain ones. I'm glad I read this and I suggest it to those having issues in this area.
Out of all the audio books I listened to pertaining to my relationship with Jesus Christ, this one is so far the one that has really dug deep and brought out the hidden muck within my soul...and that is actually a good thing. By doing this, it helped me to understand myself as well as what the authors in this book were trying to express among those who were listening.
One of the strongest points about this listening is that purity isn't achieved through works or by one's own will or acceptance by others. It is only attained through the grace and love of God. This has helped enforced the learning about how people in the Old Testament who had God's favor were known as pure despite the transgressions they committed. This could include Samson who married women who married and indulged in Phillipian women and even David who killed his best friend and took his wife Bathsheba. It is an intense moment in my soul that helps with my progression and trust in the Lord.
Purity also goes beyond the whole belief of just "sexual" intimacy. Staying pure is more so than just that. Purity, by what this audio book plays, is a heart thing and includes all your relationships. If you have a strained relationship with parents, it is considered impure by virtue of the Commandments and God's Law. If you have any enemies or hatred towards neighbors, it is impure because Jesus did say to love your neighbors as you love yourself.
In the end, this was like I said the best audio book I listened to. I really enjoyed my time listening and learning more about God's grace and love as well as what it means to be pure. I myself have done a lot to progress in my relationship with Jesus Christ but there are many parts of my life that are still impure. At least I am able to recognize them and through the grace of God, I will be pure not because I can do anything, but because I give everything to Jesus Christ.
I haven't read any of Hayley or Michael DiMarco's previous books, but I've now added some of them to my wishlist. True Purity was one of the best books on purity I've read. Instead of putting so much emphasis on outside purity (what you have or have not done physically), the book talks about how true purity is a heart issue.
Purity isn't something we lose, because on our own we are all impure and dead in our sins, it is something given to us through faith in Jesus Christ.
Overall, I loved True Purity and definitely recommend it. I think it'll make you look at purity in a different light.
*I received a complimentary eBook copy of this book via Netgalley for review. I was not required to give a positive review, only my honest opinion - which I've done. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.*
I like that this book focused on purity in the sense of emotionally, physically, intellectually, etc. rather than solely focusing on the physical, which is the aspect people most often think of that needs "purifying". However, I am not really convinced that this book is really any different than many other books similar to this genre.
Finally a book that deals with purity in whole - not just the physical aspect! The DiMarcos have done an excellent job of laying out all the "pieces of the pie" so to speak when it comes to purity. They cover purity in love, community, self, mind and faith. Would be a great youth small group study for guys or girls!
I read this thinking I wanted my son to understand purity in relationships better as he grows older, but was so challenged myself. It is clear and thorough on giving your life to God across every spectrum. I plan to do some family bible studies using chapters of this for guidance.
