Shy virgin, Minerva Westwind always thought she’d grow old running the Westerly bookshop, on the outskirts of Motham City. But now the human authorities want to sell the building and she can’t afford to buy it.
Enter Dragon entrepreneur, Ethan Blade. His proposal to build an airport on human-owned land has stalled because of his monster heritage. Seems like he needs a personal relationship with a high-breed human before his bid will be considered. And he’s prepared to pay Minerva a hefty sum to play at being his human love interest.
Minerva and Ethan soon find out there’s more to their fake-dating arrangement than money changing hands. Ethan can’t believe how good having Minerva in his home feels. She even manages to calm down his Mom’s anxiety and his younger brother’s unruly behavior.
As for Minerva, Ethan seems to have a knack of making her feel… verysteamed up. In the best possible way.
When Minerva and Ethan are required to prove to the human authorities that their relationship is the real deal, their chemistry is set to sizzle off the charts…
Find out if fake dating turns into true love in this steamy, sweet monster romance with a hint of magic and intrigue in the mix.
Book 4 of Motham City Monsters, Fake Dating The Dragon can be read as a standalone. It is intended for mature readers.
Lilith Stone spent her childhood checking for monsters under the bed. Now she writes sweet and steamy romances for grown-ups who’d prefer a monster in their bed than under it. She suffers from an over-active imagination which means she’s constantly anxious unless making up stories in her head. She wrote and illustrated her first gothic novel at age 12 and hasn’t really stopped since. English by birth, she now lives in Australia and keeps out of the sea where there are too many real life monsters.
I have read a few books in this world now, and I am just tickled with happiness every time! I bounce around based on the tropes and characters, and I was immediately intrigued by the idea of a bookstore owner FMC who enters into a fake dating agreement to save her store. Our hero has never dated a human before, and our heroine has always been into monsters. They are both so adorably nervous and shy with each other at first, but they are also crazy attracted almost instantly. The cast of characters was great - the mother was instantly wanting dragon babies and the brother was such a cute ball of angst.
Brief TW is attempted SA (against the FMC, not by the MMC) but otherwise this is a cozy, cute romance that I highly recommend!
Fake Dating the Dragon is the fourth book in the Motham City Monsters series and features Ethan and Minerva. Ethan is a wealthy entrepreneur and wants to grow his business but in order to do so he must have a partner and a human partner at that. The council is adamant they'll only approve expansion under those terms. So what's a dragon to do? Procure a human mate of course.
Minerva or Min is a bookstore owner and is gentle and kind. Due to familial connections and beliefs, her landlord informs her that she may not have her bookstore for much longer if she doesn't come up with some serious cash and soon. Lucky for her, the perfect opportunity falls into her lap in the form of fake dating a dragon. It's a win-win situation. In true romance novel fashion, when their fake dating turns into something more serious these two heat up the sheets!
"I want to pleasure every little part of you. I want you to lie back and let me give you everything a dragon can give."
Ethan was subtly dominant and kind and his reaction to Min was undeniably cute. Min was such a quiet and sweet heroine. Fairly low angst and all around fluffy, their romance was heartwarming and swoon inducing. While I think Ethan could have been slightly more dominant to give this story more of an edge, I also think the syrupy sweetness of this story was authentic and well balanced. I am really enjoying all these Motham City monsters and their mates.
I absolutely adored this latest addition to the Motham City Monsters series! The writing was so engaging as per usual and I finished it in one sitting! I’m always such a fan of the mutual pining vibe and this delivered with along with so many fun side characters which just added to the angst perfectly. I loved the relationship between the two and their genuine feelings for each other made for such a beautiful romance with some serious heat! Love anything Lilith puts out so it’s always a guaranteed great read for me.
This was a lovely lowstakes, minimal angst story about Minerva (Min) and Ethan. I liked the worldbuilding around the history of Motham city, a city founded by a Mothman. That gave me a giggle. The romance is a slowburn, but our couple had enough tension and flirting going on to keep my attention. I enjoyed seeing how Min changed the dynamic in Ethan's household for the better and helped him in regards to his relationship with his younger brother.
Fake Dating the Dragon is book 4 in Lilith Stones Motham City Monsters paranormal romance series. I’ve been reading this series since book one, but in my opinion, the author provides enough background that a reader could easily read any of the books as standalone.
In Fake Dating the Dragon, Minerva Westwind is a young human who is about to lose her business, a bookstore catering to monsters. Ethan Blade is a rich dragon, looking to expand his business into human territory, but a new law will prevent him unless he’s in a personal relationship with a human.
The two are brought together by the mysterious Amina Thrimble who arranges partnerships for just such situations. It’s clear from the time that they meet, that Ethan and Min have feelings for each other, but they both fight those feelings, afraid that the other is not truly interested.
If you’ve read any of my other reviews on this series, I will sound like a broken record when I say how much I love the world building in this series. I find it interesting how the author fills in the history of the monsters and humans and makes it seem so real.
I also loved to see how Min and Ethan’s relationship grew. Min’s especially, as she was originally so bookish and shy, due to her rather limited social experience. I just loved seeing her blossom.
The side characters were also interesting, and I hope some of them pop up in other books in the series (we have seen a few past characters pop up in other books, so it’s not unrealistic to think that it might happen).
If you love a good, light, paranormal romance, then I think you would enjoy this book.
Warning, there is one scene which may be disturbing for those with SA triggers. Not by the main character, and it was stopped by another character, but it may be disturbing to some.

All the stars, I loved Ethan and Min so much! Returning to Motham was like relaxing after a long day, I couldn’t get enough.
In this one you follow Min, a bookshop owner trying to save her father’s legacy, and Ethan a businessman that wants to build an airport in human lands. Due to recent events monsters must now be in a relationship with a human to purchase human land. I enjoy a good fake dating trope and adding this into monster romance was perfection. The tension between these two was delicious. Since we have a dragon hero and his family we learn a bit about dragon history and how the dragons were involved in The Great War. I love the world building in this series. I would read a Motham history book in a heartbeat! Back to his family! Beau and Cressida are some of my favorite side characters in the series so far, I adored the family dynamic and seeing how Min fit in with them. This was a new favorite in the series for me and I can’t wait for the next one!!
Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this ARC. This was my first book by Lilith Stone, I have heard of her other books in the series but had not read any. You do not need to read the other to read this one. I absolutely loved this. This was sweet and so easy to read. Ethan and Min’s story was perfect. I will definitely be reading more by this author. Her writing style is easy to follow and understand. This is a solid 4 stars for med. Well done!
Guh, I just love this series. This story was so cute. I am a big book nerd myself so I saw a lot of myself in Min. I love the connection Min and Ethan had in this book. It was so realistic. Thank you @lilithstoneromance , for another great tale. Not me over here looking at dragons in a whole new light, lol.

Lighthearted and spicy but fun. It’s billionaire romance but make it a dragon; Motham City is a fun monster town with brave humans who are willing to break human society snobbery.
Ethan and Min are fake dating but so drawn to each other and they have very spicy moments. Tail play! Good if you like monster romances that are low on angst, high on fluff, and medium spicy.
“Oh my dear, what do you think love is, if not magic?”
This is one of my favorite series I’ve read this year, and this didn’t disappoint!! Fake Dating can be hit or miss for me, but I really enjoyed how it was done in this book. Min and Ethan are SO sweet together 🥹 I loved seeing them get to know each other, it made their slow burn so worth it. I also loved Ethan’s family, they all felt authentic and real.
If you haven’t tried out this series yet, go for it!! All of the Motham City books are so cozy.

Thank you so much Lilith and Booksirens for providing an ARC for an honest review. 💖
This was a really good read I loved Min, she was such a quiet character but had serious hidden depths! Ethan really brought out the best in her and I loved the strong, confident woman she was by the end of the book. And Ethan, he was such a sweet dragon, so many responsibilities but determined to do right by everyone, loved him.
This is my favorite book in the series so far! I enjoyed every single love story but this one resonated with me the most, for some reason. The pining was delicious. The build-up to schmexy times was fire by itself; foreplay at its best! The secondary characters and world building were another highlight for me. I NEED to move to Motham City!
Lilith has done it again with Fake Dating The Dragon! I have to give it 5 Stars! I loved it! This story is one of my favorites (along with Gargoyle Grinch), and I am loving each adventure that Mrs. Stone takes us on with each of her books. Motham City is always fun to come back to… At the end of one book, I’m always looking forward to what comes next. In this story, we have Ethan our wealthy gentleman of a dragon and Min our determined bookish human. They mutually decide that fake dating could be beneficial to the both of them. It was a slow burn, but we are gifted with found family, forced proximity, smut & spice, and some special equipment!!! If you haven’t read the Motham City Monster series by Lilith Stone you can read this first, but I highly recommend going back to the beginning since they are all interconnected in some way! You won’t regret it!!
I haven't read any of the other books in this series and I feel like maybe (maybe?) I would have understood the underlying political (for lack of a better word) stuff going on if I had. To be fair, since I didn't read any of the other books, maybe I'm wrong about this, but there was more than a little going on behind the scenes that took me a bit to pick up on.
If I look at JUST the romance, here's what I saw: Min is engaged in something that could possibly derail some pretty big contracts if it were to get out. And she goes and tells her assistant about it because she doesn't like keeping secrets? I honestly thought the jig was going to be up at that point. But it wasn't. In fact, the whole fake dating thing didn't make any of the contract negotiations fall apart (mostly because Min and Ethan ended up actually falling for one another, I guess?) so the whole loose lips sink ships didn't play into it.
On Ethan's end, he's BIG on denying what all the physical things that are happening to him when he's around (or thinks of) Min mean. It took Min stating clearly that she wanted to be with him and basically forcing the issue before he sealed the deal. I'm big on consent, so the clear communication is good, but Ethan also tried to tell her (or strongly imply, I can't remember at this point) that she didn't know what she wanted and I'm NOT a fan of dudes telling women they don't know their own minds. So, plus points for the enthusiastic consent, but minus points for not initially listening when she told him she DID want it.
Like I said, there was a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes outside of the romance. I was also finishing this book when I was a little tired, so maybe I glossed over some of the League of Humans and Monsters stuff (I don't even remember if I got their name right if that tells you how tired I was). Fun, but maybe read the earlier books in the series first so the foundation has already been laid for this one.

Intro As always I’ve been anxiously awaiting the next entry into the Motham City Monsters series, and Lilith Stone never disappoints! Fake Dating the Dragon is a wonderful tale of two lost people drawn together by fate to say a big F you to a pretty corrupt council through the wonders of a fake relationship which turns deliciously real. Hold onto your hats because we are about to fly into the drama!
The Characters Ethan is a cautious, hard working ball of anxiety who is trying to hold his whole family together after the loss of their father some years ago. He’s trying to live up to his father’s legacy and ends up in this fake relationship with someone he finds really attractive. Cue sparks flying - literally!
The way Ethan treats Min is always respectful and he is clearly very keen on consent. The urge to touch her rides him hard (get it, because he is a dragon… you can ride them… I’ll show myself out now) and his inner turmoil is so hot. Wrap that tail round her, you hunk! Unfortunately, he is determined (sort of) to keep it business between them and that does mean he blows hot and cold - haha dragon pun - towards her for a good 50% of the book. This totally works for the genre though and adds delicious tension! And when he gives in, he is all in. Duopeen style.
Min, for her part, is all of us. Ok I may be projecting here. She has never found humans very interesting, it’s always been about The Monsters, darling. She’s spent her life ogling the monsters that visit her father’s (now her) bookshop, or reading a good monster romance. Tell me that wouldn’t be you if you lived in Motham City. Min, like her father, is dedicated to helping monsters have access to literature so that they can enjoy reading, learn their rights, and have access to education. She’s also always had a thing for dragons, and when she meets Ethan the tingles are off the charts!
Min’s relationship with Ethan’s family is the real star of the show, in my opinion. She is so sweet to his brother and so patient with his mother. I love all their interactions and I want to hug them all so much. Is it found family when they’re your future in-laws? Anyway, she handles them all beautifully and every scene where they interacted was my favourite.
The Relationship The chemistry between Min and Ethan is off the charts! They are both absolutely feral for each other, even if Ethan is desperately trying to keep his distance half the time. He knows he would be lost the moment he gave in. Min and Ethan have a lot in common and are really good compliments for each other. Min softens Ethan’s harder edges and calms his anxiety, while Ethan brings Min out of her shell and encourages her to try new things.
The spice when it happens is great but the build up is divine! These two know who to kiss, that’s all I’m saying. And that tail can do things. I’ve never enjoyed the anticipation of two people making the final move more!
It turns out, dragons really do do it better.
The Plot The real theme for this book is about moving on after loss, at least in my opinion. Both of our MCs have experienced the loss of a parent and are still grieving in different ways. Ethan doesn’t know how to handle his brother’s pain in the face of his own. Min can’t face her father’s study. Both of them want to continue their parents’ legacy, which is under threat. I thought the whole subject was explored really well and the way it all came to a head was very healing, and somehow managed to be lighthearted in the best way.
The pacing of the book is pretty great. Yes, this is a slow burn; but there will be plenty of moments to keep you going before things really catch on fire. I say this as someone who isn’t a fan of slow burns - I was not feeling annoyed by the relationship pace.
Final Thoughts So prepare yourselves for a surprisingly deep, but still fun and romantic romp into fake dating! I really enjoyed this book and I’m so glad I picked it up. If you’re a fan of monster romance, tail play, or a bit of family drama, you should definitely read this book!

Monster romance is my new not-so-guilty pleasure, and Lilith Stone’s series is the cause.
Fake Dating the Dragon more than delivers all the feels and all the monster yumminess that readers crave. The world building of Motham City is deftly delivered along with stories that pull your right into the characters’ challenges and their journey to satisfying – in all the ways you need – conclusion. I’ve read and loved all the books in this series so far. This one I received in advance (could not wait!) for free but I'm delighted to share my review.
In Fake Dating the Dragon, the wildly successful dragon Ethan Blade is about to deliver on his late father’s legacy of building a new airport on human land when the horrid human authorities throw a spanner in the works. He must have a committed relationship with a human to buy the land.
He’s hot, he’s handsome, he’s green, and he has a tail that later features in a scene that will steam your glasses. He’s forced to find a human to date, fast, or lose the deal and risk sending his anxious, demanding mother into another spiral. What’s a dragon to do? Seek the help of an expect, the slightly magical Adina Thrimble, of course.
Minerva Westwind is about to lose her late father’s business, and the only home she’s ever known, the Westerly Bookshop, because of avaricious rent increases, also from the human authorities. She’s fascinated by monsters, but she’s been home-schooled and lived a sheltered life raised by her dad, and her quiet nature hasn’t led to any dating of any kind, human or monster.
When Adina Thrimble offers her a deal that will make all her dreams come true, Minerva realises she must leave her comfort zone. And she finds a surprising fit with the Blade family, forming bonds with Ethan’s troubled younger brother and his emotionally fragile mother that change the family dynamic and make her question her solitary life.
But the real action is the chemistry between Ethan and Min, who grow through caution to friendship to an intense desire that ruffles his wings and her composure. He’s fighting a losing battle from the moment they meet, but tries desperately to hold himself in check. It’s delicious torment for him and the reader until they share their first kiss. Wow! What a scene. And more to come, dear reader! Two peens, is all I’m sayin’.
As much as I love the sexy times, Lilith Stone delivers a well-crafted page-turning story with lots of twists and turns. Motham City is a world I’ll be keen to visit every time. I will be back, as long as Lilith Stone is writing new stories.
I'm not normally a reader of fantasy, but I'm sure glad I read this one. It is absolutely delightful!
There is a little town called Motham City which, similarly to our modern cities, has several different districts, inhabited by different classes of beings: humans and various types of monsters, both mythical and traditional. At one time, the humans and monsters all lived amicably, but then, a few generations past, something happened that caused a rift between them. And the human blamed for the rift was a Colonel Westwind, none other than a relative of Minerva Westwind, proprietor of the Westerly Bookstore. With the rift, trade had been cut off between the humans and monsters for some years, but then the Hole in the Wall happened, allowing the monsters to come through and resume some trade. They did so mostly at night to avoid scaring the humans during the day, and Minerva's father encouraged them to visit the bookstore and to begin and advance their education.
We naturally have heroes and villains in this story, and the most repulsive of the villains is Quentin Jordak, a member of the Council of Towns, who has had his eye on Minerva for some time. She is NOT interested in him. He informs her that her lease will not be renewed, and that in order to keep the bookstore, she will have to buy it. She doesn't have the money to do that, but an opportunity comes along that just might save it for her. A very rich businessdragon, Ethan Blade, is also dealing with the Council, and a go-between, who turns out to be a witch, presents Min with an offer to "fake date" Ethan for a month so he can get an approval to build an airport on "human" land, and he will provide the money she needs to save the bookstore.
Min will have only 24 hours to make a decision, but as soon as she sees Ethan's picture in the file provided to her, she agrees. He's the most handsome dragon she's ever seen! This next month may not be as difficult to fake as dhe originally feared. From here, the story becomes more and more entertaining with this slow burn romance between Min and Ethan which, while it was supposed to remain fake, takes on a more real feeling as time goes on.
The writing style employed for this story is what makes the story so good. The author created unique characters with exceptionally likeable personalities… except for the villains, of course. If, like me, you've not tried fantasy before, this would be a great book to start with. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did.

Gleeful Goblin Review: Oh man, this book had me sold from so early on. It's got an FMC with a name I love (Minerva) who owns and runs a bookstore, which if not for capitalism would be something I'd love to do myself as a book gremlin, and the love interest is a DRAGON. Like, did I dream this book up and manifest it? Because it feels like I did. And then the description of the store itself sounds like paradise: "How did you deal with being told that you were going to lose your livelihood and your home, all in the space of ten minutes? Her gaze swept helplessly around the cozy little shop, taking in the floor-to-ceiling shelves crammed full of books, the crooked beamed ceiling, the windows set deep into the ancient Malilbar stone walls with their leaded glass panes. There was no denying it: the Westerly Bookshop was a strange and unique place. It stood completely alone, a three-story ramshackle building on the road that connected the human towns to Motham City. Not much grew around here except gorse bushes and heather. But somehow when they’d first arrived here, Min’s parents had managed to cultivate a garden around the shop, a little oasis in this barren land. As for the building itself, it was rumored to date back to The Great War. The story went that it was set up as a hospital by an entrepreneurial mage to remove monster curses from humans before returning them home to the towns of Tween and Twill. Yes, altogether a very odd place to set up shop—any shop, let alone a bookshop that sold mostly books written by and for monsters. But then, her father had always been a maverick. A rule breaker, one who was fascinated by monster history and literature and determined to help monsters gain an education." LET ME LIVE THIS LIFE EXCEPT FOR ABSENT CAPITALISM PLEASE BECAUSE THIS SOUNDS SO RAD. Also, there is a bookshop cat named Gingerbread. GINGERBREAD PEOPLE.
The story itself is super fun, especially if you are a fan of fake to real relationship tropes. Seeing the two of them get to know each other and let down their walls together is simply lovely and plays out beautifully. 5/5 Stars
I received an advance review copy and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
True mates (not exactly insta mates), slow burn, good but confusing spiciness near the end, family oriented, and more history on Motham City.
This series is one of my favorites, and while the story was beautiful (Especially when his little brother stands up for his new sister. It was so beautiful I literally had tears.) and the spiciness was great, it was also... very confusing where Ethan's anatomy was concerned. How could they kiss, if he had a dragon head? And how did his downstairs work exactly? He had... Two? But only used one and the other was always magically perfectly aligned (with a certain spot. You'll get what I mean when you read this.) which made no sense positioning wise. I couldn't tell if it was another one, or just a nub. Typically I look forward to DP when a duo is confirmed, but sadly none of that. It was just very hard to picture what Ethan looked like and how his body functioned, so my imagination just kept viewing him as very fuzzy.
Spoiler: I was a bit unhappy with the ending for the rest of the dragons. I felt like, it built it up that these two coming together could break the magic spell, but really only what his Mom assumes in the begining actually happens, just the future generation gets lucky, but only with their family by the looks of it. She would have to pop out a lot of kids to ensure every family got dispelled, lol. I get, love your Monster. That's all fine and dandy and I highly approve. They could very well keep the ability to change into a Twilight dragon, at least for the current and older generations since some may be more comfortable in the forms they grew up in.
I loved this book! This is my favorite book of the series so far. Ethan and Min’s story was so relatable and interesting. Both characters have something standing in their way of fulfilling or continuing a dream of their deceased parent and they will do whatever they can to overcome the obstacle!
Ethan Blade, a respectable dragon businessman, wants to expand his father’s aviation company into the human side of Motham City. However, he is running into difficulties with the Council for he is a monster who is single. The council eludes to the fact that his expansion project would be more favorable if he had a partner, especially a human one.
Minerva Westwind, also known as “Min”, is a quiet unassuming bookkeeper who is trying to keep her father’s bookstore open. Min may came from a well known high breed family but both her and her father were not highly thought of due to their encouragement and support of monsters. Minerva quickly finds herself in a tight spot when the landlord for the bookstore informs her that the building is in danger of foreclosure.
Desperate times call for desperate measures with our main characters and after they agree to a mutual agreement of “fake” dating for a month to overcome both their obstacles - Ethan has a human partner for a month until his project is approved and in turn he will pay Minerva enough money to save her bookstore. However their true personalities begin to come to light the longer they are together and then mix in their simmering attraction…will they continue to be “fake” or will they both want things to be real?
This was another fun and steamy addition to Stone's Motham City Monsters series, and I loved Min and Ethan's dynamic from the very beginning.
After the vampire shenanigans in the last book, Ethan is finding it hard to get the local city council to approve his proposed land purchase and subsequent airport expansion. As a dragon, it's important to Ethan to get people off the ground and flying through the sky. But he first needs to enter into a (fake) relationship with a human if he has any hope of getting the council to sign off on the land deal. Enter Min. She's a human in need of cash to save her family's bookstore. Ethan's a rich dragon in need of a human. On paper, it's perfect. In person? They can't deny how real their feelings are in this fake relationship.
I love each new trope and monster that Stone introduces into this series. Ethan and Min's romance shows what a true monster is (and it's not the scaly, green dragon with wings). Like the other monster main characters in this series, Ethan proves that it's what's on the inside that counts and some of the worst monsters are the ones who look human.
I loved Min. As a book-loving introvert myself, I thought Min was very relatable. I thought she was even more so because of her love of monster romance. Min was basically the embodiment of the quiet, monster romance-loving girlies, and I loved that.
Overall, this was a sweet and spicy addition to the series (hello, dragon anatomy!). I loved Min and Ethan's romance, Min's growing relationship with Ethan's family, and the over-arching Motham City story. There were plenty of references to prior books and some returning faces, but Fake Dating the Dragon can be read as a standalone for those looking for a good dragon romance.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was my first monster-human interspecies romance and I never in a million years thought I would like something like this. But alas, here I am, adding the rest of this series to my TBR because this was better than I expected it to be and hotter/spicier/steamier than I expected it to be.
Now….I have a genuine curiosity about the stories with the other monsters of Motham City and I need to devour those as well. This was a VERRYYYY slow-burn but it was absolutely worth it. Having a virgin FMC is usually not my go-to trope, but adding the monster element to this, allowed me to enjoy this particular part of the storyline.
I enjoyed the “book-ish” aspect of this, with Min owning a bookstore specifically trying to merge the human and monster worlds a little bit more. Watching Min and Ethan grow as characters throughout this book, while also growing closer to each other was really a joy. I cannot wait to pick up more books from this series.
I do want to let other readers know as a trigger, that there is a brief encounter of attempted SA on page. I was not quite expecting it and while it is a critical part of this story (in my opinion), I do want to make others aware of this since it could be quite triggering to some.
Fake Dating the Dragon by Lilith Stone was one of my favorites in the Motham City Monsters series! After a couple of missteps in book 3, book 4 came back with the same sweet charm of the earlier titles. Once again, Lilith isn't afraid to tackle some tough subjects such as war, slavery and racism, but does so in a way that is accessible and makes sense in a romance novel. The world the Motham City Monsters live in is nowhere near perfect, but the characters are trying to improve things one step at a time.
I loved our main characters, Ethan & Min, as well as Ethan's mom Cressida and brother Beau. At first I thought Ethan's family was going to be a thorn in the side, but they turned out to be so lovely and Min fit in perfectly with them. I loved that Ethan & Min's story was pretty low angst and when they decided they wanted to be together, they committed and faced the remaining challenges thrown at them together. I also love the dragon lore that was included and how Min's dad was involved with that! Keep an eye out for Adina & Gingerbread … they were a fun addition to the whole plot. And the epilogue? Chef's Kiss!
I am so happy with how this one turned out and am excited for the next installment!

This was even better than the Gargoyle Grinch. Ethan, a twilight dragon had plans to build an airport in Motham, to honor his late father's wishes. Minerva, Min, owned a bookshop that catered to mostly monster clients. She had to enter into a "fake" dating arrangement so the Town Council would not only allow Ethan to buy the land to build his airport, but also allow Min to keep her bookshop. It was clear from the beginning that both had strong feelings, but it took time and patience for them both to realize how right their relationship was.
Min was such a brave, smart, sassy character. She loved Ethan from the beginning, but he had misgivings he had to work through. Ethan had feelings, but was afraid of not only what society would say, but also of damaging Min's reputation. She had to convince him how much she wanted him to be a part of her life, to be her soul mate. Once the feelings were accepted the two grew even closer.
Ethan's family were fun characters too, as were Min's friend Bonnie and Gingerbread the cat (who it turned out, had secrets of his own). Ethan butted heads with his family more often than not, but after Min came she helped him realize how to accept them and love them the way they were. Beau in particular was my favorite. Once he was given freedom to be himself he became a wonderful character.
I can't wait to read more of this series, it's so fun!
I thought this was cute, she owns a bookstore that her father originally opened, his purpose was the fact that for so long after a big war people just didn't like monsters and he wanted to give them a place to learn and to read and to get those books, one of the people that caused this type of harm was actually his family member a great great something, and she believes in this cause too problem her landlord came to her and basically said despite her lease wasn't over they were terminating it early and that they would be selling the bookstore. the main male character owned an aviation company also started it by his father but the problem was there was new rules in place in order to buy land or property on The human side a monster had to be in a committed romantic relationship with a human, except for he wasn't dating so he reached out to somebody and magically they got connected, there was something from the very beginning between them they just didn't acknowledge it to start with, it has space it has monster human hybrid type setup because he very much has some parts of his body that are very humanistic while other parts so much, they lost their shifting ability a long time ago leaving them in that middle ground area. they fell in love despite what other people thought, it was cute it was spicy I loved it.
A quirky bookshop owner with a cat - I love it already!
Two of my unintentional trends as of late continue in Fake Dating the Dragon (FDD); there’s a map included in this wonderful book and it’s Dual POV (between Min and Ethan). It is also the fourth book in the Motham City Monsters series, but having not read any of the three prior books I can attest that it does not hinder the experience to read FDD without them.
FDD is honestly just the sweetest story. I can undoubtedly see this becoming one of my comfort reads. It’s a quick, quality novel and I hope anyone interested gives it a read.
I really relate with Min; as written in Chapter 4: No matter, she lived inside her books anyway. Her stash of monster romances kept her going. I feel this in my soul! It’s honestly unreasonable how validated I felt reading this line. If you know me, you know I’m a mood reader and lately I’ve been on a monster romance kick. Min is, apparently, my literary twin.
I love how easily Min fits into Ethan’s family and helps repair the strains that have occurred since his father’s passing. It’s heartwarming and comforting to have in a novel, resonating with how accepting my partner’s grandparents have been with me since I only have one grandparent of my own still with me.
Baby Theo is quite the plot twist in and of himself, so I hope we get more of this family’s story! I’d love to know how Cressida and Beau react to Theo’s plot twist.
Quintin is 🤢 and my mind cannot be changed about this.
FDD is also a perfect depiction of the still-prevalent racism and inequality in society. Monsters are treated as less-than, even though they are integral to the economy and community success. Hopefully reality can progress as I’m sure the fictional economy would given more time in the universe. People are people – just treat them with respect and let them live their lives.
Ultimately, this was an unexpectedly powerful read that I will keep close to my heart. If you give this a read, let me know what you think!
Fake Dating the Dragon is book four of the Motham City Monsters series and one sweet, hot, spicy read, and my first by this author.
The writing is excellent with exceptional world building ,and expertly crafted characters that made this story shine.
MFC Minerva Westwind and MMC Ethan Blade a dragon stuck in half shift mode as are all his kind after dramatic events from generations past, become cohorts in a game that soon turns into something quite a bit more real.
They meet after Ethan learns his plan to expand Blade Wing Air onto human lands will be denied unless he is in a committed relationship with a human.
He needs a fake one QUICKLY!
Minerva is about to loose the bookshop which she and her recently deceased father ran selling books by and for monsters, and needs cash QUICKLY!
Be it magic or fate that brings them together it was definitely meant to be.
Filled with humor, quirkiness, barely concealed passion, and family love this story was soooo good I couldn’t stop reading, and I am so glad I took the plunge.
I’ve now found a new author’s books to get lost in and plan to go back and read them all.
Highly recommended!
