Cash & the Sinners #1

How to Date a Rockstar

Rate this book
Fall back in love with the rockstar who broke my heart? Never happening.
Live with him for a year to save my grandma’s house? That’s a different story…

When my beloved grandma dies, I travel to the small town of Winter Falls to settle her affairs. The last thing I expect is to find a man in her shower.

Worse yet? The man is Cash Evans. Singer of the world-famous Cash & the Sinners. And the boy who broke my heart at our high school graduation.

Cash thinks he can bat those gray eyes at me, and I’ll jump into his strong arms. He’s wrong. He broke my heart once. I’m not letting him do it again.

I don’t care how he’s some hotshot rockstar now. How his eyes warm when they look at me. How my body heats when he touches me. How he claims he didn’t dump me to become a rockstar.

Good thing I’m leaving Winter Falls as soon as I sell Grandma’s house.

But Grandma’s up to her old tricks. According to her will, I have to live in her house for a year or it will be destroyed.

And Cash has a rental agreement to live in the same house while his band records their next album.

How am I going to resist temptation when I’m forced to live in the same house with Cash? When he walks around in nothing but boxer shorts showing off all those hard muscles and making me forget about my broken heart?

This second chance, forced proximity, rockstar, small town romantic comedy features a woman who doesn’t want to want a rockstar but can’t help herself, a rockstar who’s determined to get his girl back even if it means putting up with her demon cat, four band mates who think watching Cash chase Indigo is a hoot, and a whole town of hippies convinced they’re the best matchmakers this side of the Mississippi.

How to Date a Rockstar is a standalone novel in the Cash & the Sinners series.

Loved Cash and Indy

What a great book with plenty of banter going on which adds plenty to this book and who doesn’t love a meddling grandmother. After Cash broke Indy’s heart at graduation he went on to form his own band and become famous. Now that her grandmother passed, Indy was heading back home to settle her estate only to get a shock of her life. Cash is standing in a shower in her grandmother’s house in all his glory.

Beyond the grave her grandmother was working to put Cash and Indy back together…along with about everyone else in town. She had rented Cash the house while they come up with a new album and Indy has no way to get him out of that house. Then we add in the stipulation that Indy has to stay in that very same house for one year! It doesn’t get any better at that.

What a wonderful story with Cash and Indy hoping the whole time they find their HEA.

Indigo goes to Winter Falls on what is supposed to be a brief stop to settle her grandmother's estate. What she didn't bargain for was Cash, the lead singer of Cash & the Sinners, in the shower… at her grandmother's house. And it's not like Indy is just a big fan. No. Cash is her first love, who broke up with her on graduation day never to be heard from again. Now that Cash is reunited with Indy, he realizes what a fool he's been and can't be without Indy. But life is never that simple and with (many) people meddling in their lives will they be able to get to a HEA?

I just love Winter Falls and the addition of Cash & the Sinners is the best! I can't wait to read the rest of the band's stories. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily providing my review.

This is my first visit to Winter Falls but now I'm going back to start at the beginning. Indigo and Cash have great chemistry, whether they want to or not. It's a good thing Indigo's grandmother (and the whole town) are wanting to fix a decade old wrong. The town is charming, the citizens quirky, and the MCs are relatable (minus the whole being a rock star thing).

Cash Evans and Indigo Scott were high school sweethearts until Cash left without any real explanation.
Now, over a decade later, they meet again in her hometown.

Indigo wants nothing to do with Cash and his famous band. He broke her heart and that’s all she needs to know to stay away from him for the rest of her life.
Cash never stopped loving Indy, but he could never tell her the real reason why they needed to break up because he believed it was true.
But seeing Indigo again has Cash wondering if he can make things right between them.
Indigo’s grandmother has made her feelings about their predicament clear, even from beyond the grave.
If you are a fan of D.E. Haggerty, (which I am) you will enjoy this book! It has great characters and fantastic laugh out loud dialogue, just like “Love in the Suburbs” series.

I fell in love with the Gossip Gals, the menagerie of exotic pets and people of Winter Falls and can’t wait to read more!

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

I love this introduction of a new cast of characters in this fun return to Winter Falls where previous characters make an appearance. This is Cash and Indigo’s story. Indy returns to Winter Falls to clean up her grandmother, Saffron’s estate and Cash is there to find his family of 1/2 brothers that he recently learned about as well as record an album with his band. After some effort, Cash and Indy rekindle their relationship that started, and ended, when they were young. I like that Cash finally told Indy the full story of why Cash left her by mid book instead of drawing it out longer. Too bad Cash turns back into an idiot and makes decisions that he thinks are best for himself and Indy instead of treating their relationship like a partnership… good thing this is a romance novel, so you know things will get better.

I found this thoroughly enjoyable book. This is the first time I have read anything written by Dr. E. Haggerty and I was pleasantly surprised. The town of Winter Falls is full of interesting characters and the rock band Cash and the Sinners consists of equally zany characters. The dynamic between them is hilarious. Add the 'demon cat' Katy Purry and chipmunks on leashes to the mix and this is a rediculously laugh out loud story.
Indigo is a school teacher who returns to Winter Falls when her beloved grandma dies, leaving her the house.
Cash is the lead singer and songwriter of Cash and the Sinners. He broke up with Indigo on graduation day. He returns to Winter Falls with his band ostensibly to record a new album.
He wants to win her back, but she wants nothing to do with him.
Hilarity ensues when the town begins to meddle.
I really liked the characters and will definitely read the rest of the series when it's released.

As with the other series (and there's a few) set in Winter Falls, this story is extremely addictive and engaging.

The residents are like old friends at this point to me, and I was happy to lose myself in their carbon-neutral town for a few hours!
Cash and Indigo have a history that goes back to when they were in school together, before Cash became famous. So many years wasted, because of insecurities! Frustrating...

There's the usual Bragg brother's banter, traditions and care for their family that I love from this talented author, and I was smiling and chuckling all through the pages. The "Gossip Gals" still can't help themselves, and I loved the familiarity of the rest of the town. Indy and Cash, when they figure themselves out, are sweet. Their connection is entertaining and steamy!

You certainly can start your own love of this town with this story, but I would then go back to the beginning, so the connections make sense. I can't wait for the next one!!!

How to Date a Rockstar is now live!

The last thing Indigo expects when she arrives in Winter Falls to handle her beloved grandmother's estate is to find Cash Evans in her grandma's shower.

Cash Evans - famous rockstar and the man who dumped her at high school graduation - is the last person she wants to see.

Cash, on the other hand, takes one look at Indigo and realizes he should have never let her go.

Game on, Cash. Game on.

Another series taking place in Winter Falls and I couldn’t be happier. This story revolves around Indigo and Cash. Indigo has returned to Winter Falls for because of the death of her grandmother Saffron. Cash is in Winter Falls recording an album and looking to meet his brother, the Bragg brothers. This is story is fantastic with a wonderful cast of characters.

more hilarious insanity
Dena did it again: another brother to add to the crazy Bragg bunch, more unsuspecting sould being exposed to the Winter Falls crazy. I always keep fearing she might run out of ideas but fortunately they keep on coming and once again she allows us to escape from our every day crazy to a kind of crazy that makes us feel cozy and amused. Thank Dena for the perspective of finding out what will happen to the other band members, I surely can´t wait.

A second chance for Cash and Indigo presents itself when she returns home to handle her grandmother's affairs. This was an emotional read filled with heartbreak, redemption and forgiveness, all of which were a difficult journey that brought them back together. I loved the chemistry between Cash and Indigo and found their interactions to be page turning which kept me invested in their story.

This book hit all the right marks!

Indigo is back in her hometown to sell her grandmother’s house after she passed, only to find rockstar and ex-boyfriend Cash renting the house while they stay in town to record their new album. Cash is also in town to possibly meet his half-siblings that he just discovered. Once Indy gets the truth about what happened when they graduated, it was easy to fall back into their relationship. But Indy’s mom has strong feelings about this and gets inside Cash’s head once again.

Cash and Indy get their happy ending in this standalone book in a series.

I was a little worried this was going to be a no-spice rockstar book, and while it’s light, it is there. I have a hard time reconciling a no-spice rockstar book with the image of rockstars portrayed in gossip magazines. I loved how much Cash wanted to show Indy that the life she thought she knew of him wasn’t what he was like. It would have been great to see Indy meeting their manager to see either how jealous Indy got or to see which band member she’s pining for. I can’t wait to see how these guys fall for their forever, and I may have to find Cash’s brother’s books too!

Indigo is broken hearted after her high school boyfriend Cash dumps her. When her grandmother passes away, Indigo returns back to Winter Falls to sort out her grandmother’s affairs. What she doesn’t expect is for Cash to be renting her grandmother’s house while he records his new album. When stipulations in her grandmother’s will force Indigo to stay in Winter Falls, she’s subjected to seeing Cash everywhere she turns.

I love all the books revolving around Winter Falls and I eagerly await the next one. This was no different and Indigo and Cash were so cute. Their bantering was on point and the combination of the Bragg brothers and Cash’s bandmates was absolutely hilarious. I loved how welcoming the Bragg brothers were to to Cash.

For those who have been loyally following the Winter Falls series, the return of meddling residents are still prominent in the book and continue to interfere in everyone’s business.

Rockstar Romantic Comedy.

Welcome back to Winter Falls with HOW (NOT) TO DATE A ROCKSTAR, the first book in the new CASH AND THE SINNERS series!!! For those who have read previous books from Author DE Haggerty, you’ll be familiar with the vibe of this small town, and for new readers, each books stands on it’s own merits so settle in and enjoy.

This time round for me though, I struggled to connect to the main characters, and even though the secondary characters offered hilarious repartee, the humour fell short for me. I’ve thought long and hard because I just loved the books of Ms Haggerty’s that I’ve read previously and laughed away to myself as I read them, but I just can’t pinpoint why I didn’t fall into the rom-com plot like I have in the past. It should have been a slam dunk. Rockstar – HUGE tick. Second Chance – BIG tick. Written by DE Haggerty – another easy tick. Nah-ah, not this time.

I really liked Indigo. The love she felt for her Grandma was deep although I had my thoughts about why she listened to her mother and didn’t visit. We all have different reactions to the same kind of maternal relationship and personally, I’d have gone anyway, but I was married at 19, angry, and a hell of a lot more independent. Katy Purry, her demon cat was quite funny in the level of torture that she dished out to Cash. Unfortunately I didn’t connect with Indigo, even when she spoke of her feelings and reactions of being around Cash.

Cash was a sexy likable Rockstar character and I did think he was quite awesome. Again, I couldn’t connect, however, and I pretty much remained aloof from the plot and the rest of the band members. Yeah, the banter was fun, but not hilarious and I’m not invested in wanting to read any more from them.

As for the Gossip Girls, I found them flat out annoying and it bothered me. I really wanted to like this book and the characters. Hells teeth, I laughed my titties off at the hilarious interfering antics of who I’d called the ‘bar flies’ in Ms Haggerty’s LOVE WILL OUT series, and they were a similar group. Seriously, I couldn’t get enough, but this time, I don’t understand my reaction.

If it were any other author, and any other book I’d have rated it lower, but because I know I’m a mood reader and HOW NOT TO DATE A ROCK STAR is everything that I usually look for in a read, and I’ve loved all of the books I’ve read from Ms Haggerty, I’ve rated it at 4-Stars. I don’t understand why this one didn’t hit it for me, but I still highly recommend her books and I’d hate to put any potential readers off because those who love Second Chance Rockers tormented by a demon cat all set in a small town, could find this amazing! If you’re new to Ms Haggerty, I do recommend her LOVE WILL OUT series though 😁🎙✰•

Indigo has returned to Winter Falls because her beloved grandmother had passed away and she had to deal with the estate which included her grandmother's house which was full of wonderful memories. When she arrived with her cat (called Katy Purry!) she heard water running and when she investigated further she found a man in the shower. The fact that there was a man in the house was bad enough but the man in the shower was none other than her high school sweetheart, Cash Evans who was the lead singer with his band, Cash and the Sinners. The same Cash Evans who had broken her heart and stomped all over it at their high school graduation! She tried not to stare too much because he looked mouthwatering. Cash couldn't believe that he was looking at Indigo or Indy which he had always called her, she looked amazing and he had to calm down somewhat (if you know what I mean!) It turned out that her grandmother had let him rent the house while he was in town with his bandmates to make their next album. Indigo went to see the lawyer about her grandmother's estate and he confirmed that Cash was renting the home. Then, the lawyer told her that her grandmother had written in her will that Indy had to stay in the house for 1 year, so basically she had to live in the house with Cash. Unfortunately if she didn't stay, the house would be demolished. Having no choice but to move in Indigo couldn't believe that her grandmother would do such a thing, but on the other hand she thought that maybe she was trying to get her and Cash back together again. Not going to happen! It turns out that there are a lot of other people in the town who were dabbling in matchmaking! I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it was a fun read with some laugh out loud moments! There was witty banter and there were so many busy bodies trying to get into Indigo's business!

REVIEW:
How to Date a Rockstar is the first book in the Cash & the Sinners about a second chance forced proximity romantic comedy between Cash Evans and Indigo Scott. Indigo had lost contact with her grandmother because of her mother's fight that lead to them leaving Winter Falls but she came back after her grandmother's death. The moment Indigo surprised Cash in the shower of her grandmother's home was very funny to read because neither of them expected the other to be in the house. It was such a meet cute moment that brought these two back into each other's lives.

Cash has come to Winter Falls after finding out that his half-brothers all live there and he has the luck to find his first and only love Indigo there as well. It was fun to read Indigo and Cash fall back in love with each other with a few gossiping meddlers helping them along the way. The moment that Indigo and Cash finally say they love each other was very heartwarming. Cash put his heart into telling Indigo that he had never stopped loving her since they were teenagers. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series! It will be fun to read the next Cash & the Sinner's band member fall in love with a woman who will make them work for it.

D.E. Haggerty is once again in her echo friendly town of Winter Falls this time we have a second chance romance between two people who do not normally live in the town.

We have Indigo, who is forced to stay in the town for a year after her grandmother stipulated in the will, in addition Cash, her rockstar and ex high school boyfriend, who rented the house to record an album giving the story a forced proximity dimension.

While How to Date a Rockstar is the first book in D.E. Haggerty’s new series Cash & the Sinners, a collection of rockstar romances, which is set in the writer's small town of Winter
Falls.

As a reader you will find it is both the perfect book for new readers of the romantic novels set in this town as both of the characters do not live there, which allows the reader to get to know the additional characters, which add to the joy of the story.

In addition to this it has a number of Easter eggs which allow fans of the series to get the enjoyment of Indigo and Cash getting to know the town.

For the general romance reader D.E. Haggerty does write the standard romance novel tropes and expectations, for example with How to Date a Rock Star, as a number of tropes, forced proximity, second chance, Small town and Rockstar romance.

All of which readers have read before, What D.E. Haggerty does write these tropes in such a way that is a pleasure to read, for example even though in a romance novel there is a three act break up the reason does feel realistic to the relationship and not out of the blue.

All this makes How to DAte a Rockstar by D.E. Haggerty is a great fun romance to read.

Dena has once again taken us to her fictional town of Winter Falls. I have been in love with this town and all the books included in it. There are separate series visiting different families as they find love in Winter Falls. This one is a little different, following the rock band, Cash & Sinners as they find their place in Winter Falls.

How to Date a Rock Star follows one of Winter Falls founder’s granddaughter, Indy, as she comes back to Winter Falls to settle her grandma’s estate. While there, she runs into her old flame, Cash, who is now part of a rock band who is recording their next album at the music studio in Winter Falls.
This book for me, felt a lot edgier, in a good way. What made it feel edgy was the characters, Indy and Cash. They both ran on what seemed on the rougher side of the tracks. Though, Indy’s family seem a little more put together, it still felt rather dark, just like Cash’s history.

I have to say, this book to me was more captivating than the other stories. Like her other books, we do get a glimpse of Winter Falls, but I felt this one really followed the characters and their past. There were some cameos from other books, but this one focused more on the new characters and also the newer characters from the previous series. Don’t get me wrong, I liked all the other books, but I really loved this one. Maybe because it is a second chance romance, with a hint of rock and roll, some spice, and a supposedly devil cat, Katy Purry. I can’t wait to read the next book!

Though Winter Falls is not new, this is a new series and be read as a standalone.

I was so happy when I realised that D.E.Haggerty was writing another series set in Winter Falls, Winter Falls, the carbon neutral town founded by a group of hippies many years ago and populated by the zaniest, but most delightful set of people that you could ever wish to meet.
When Indigo Scott arrived at the house left to her by her grandmother her plan was to clear it out and sell it, the last thing that she expected was for it to have a sitting tenant that she couldn't evict, a tenant who just happened to be her ex boyfriend, the same boyfriend who had broken her heart on graduation day when he dumped her and left to become a rock star.,
Cash Evans had indeed become the lead singer of the world famous Cash and the Sinners and they were in Winter Falls to make an album.
Just to add insult to injury her grandmother had stipulated in her will that Indigo must live in the house for a year before she could sell it, how could she possibly live in the same house as the gorgeous, muscle ripped rock star, even the thought of him wandering around the house in just his boxer shorts made her knees tremble.
Cash had two reasons for coming to Winter Falls, one was to find the family that he didn't know that he had and the second was to win back the girl who he had never forgotten........the fight was on.
I love the witty banter between sassy Indigo and Cash, I love how she tries to put up barriers only for him to tear them down, I love the crazy people of Winter Falls, the matchmaking gossip girls who had them in their sights, the Braggs, Cash's new, wacky family. This is a real feelgood factor book.

Indigo is back in Winter Falls to settle her late Grandma's house and sort out the funeral, after she died from cancer. Having not visited her in over five years she feels that she let her down. Just because her mom and grandma had a fallout and never talked again that shouldn't stop her from visiting. But as always she wanted to keep the peace and make her mom happy, or maybe for once actually show some signs of love towards her. Cash has walked out on Indie's life one graduation night saying he was no good for her. Breaking not only his heart but also her's, but it was the right thing for her and he'd do just about anything for her. Now both staying in the same house can they overcome their past, or is it just set to keep repeating itself. Cash has alot of self worth issue's and although he's now found fame and fortune he still lives with his past haunting him. No father, a drunk mother who couldn't look after her only son properly the took her own life, he was never good enough coming from the local trailer park. Winter Falls is the town most people would love to live. With quirky residents who walk chipmunks on leads too a group of oaps called the Gossip Gals who knew everything going on in town. This book has the perfect mix of intrigue, humour and romance to keep you hooked on this wonderful story. This is the first in the series and I will certainly be reading the rest.

These Rockstars are not ready for Winter Falls shenanigans, or are they?

How To Date a Rock Star: a second chance, forced proximity, rockstar romantic comedy (Cash and the Sinners Book 1) by D.E. Haggerty rocked my romantic comedy loving heart's socks off! Cash is a perfectly imperfect Hero with lots of self-work to do, while also determined and persistent in winning Indigo back. Indigo is bound and determined to dissuade him of a second chance and she is a stubborn one!
The plot is really enjoyable and as second chance romance is an absolute favorite trope of this romance reader's heart, this one ticked several boxes. Highly entertaining, in the usual D.E. Haggerty banter style, the dialogue from a comedy perspective is often laugh out loud funny. Then there's the second chance plot, all the history and hurt, giving these characters a chance to finally heal and love once again. And the supporting characters provide more laughs, a real connection, a glimpse of the rock and roll lifestyle, family love and protectiveness and the infamous Winter Falls madcap Gossip Gals in action.
Overall, what's not to love in this romantic comedy? Cash and Indigo are wonderful, warm and loveable characters that kicks this series off to a rockin' promising start including their much deserved second chance HEA.

Love this series.My absolute favourite.

Love all the characters and Winter Falls.

Cash and the Sinners is next in the series.

Absolutely loved Cash and Indigo's second chance romance.

Cash broke Indigo's heart at their graduatiin when he walked out.She thinks he left her to become a rockstar and has never forgiven him forvit. When she comes to Winter Falls to sort out her grandmother's house she finds someone in the shower.

She is not happy when she finds out it is none other than Cash.

Cash has regretted walking out on Indigo all those years ago,now he has a second chance to win her back.

It is not going to be easy. The sizzling chemistry is still there and so are their feelings for each other.

There is more to Cash leaving Indigo then just him becoming a rockstar. There is also another reason Cash is in town.

Cash and Indigo get to their happily ever after, but not without meddling from the gossip gals, his bandmates(his found family)his family with hilarious results.

Loved this romantic comedy with great characters, laughter, romance, spice,

friendships, family, lots of banter between the bandmates,a small town full of quirky characters and a very heartwarming happily ever after.

Cannot wait for Dylan and Virginia's romance.

This was a small town second chance forced proximity rockstar romance.

I loved this story! The characters were well developed and complex. The story had all the feels. Highly recommend!

Indigo Scott is an elementary school teacher in California. Her grandmother who lives in Winter Falls recently passed away and she goes there to handle the estate and funeral.

We are back in Winter Falls with Indigo, Saffron's granddaughter. Indigo has returned following her grandmothers death to settle her estate only to find her ex-high school boyfriend leasing her grandmothers house. Cash and the Sinners is a rock band in town to record a record and Cash leased the house not knowing who owned the property or that she had recently passed. We find out that there may be another reason for Cash wanting to record in Winter Falls and it has nothing to do with Indigo.

Indigo and Cash broke up at their high school graduation and nether has recovered 10 years later. The reasons for the breakup are disclosed later causing a rift in Indigo's family. The two live in the house but the chemistry is still there and before long neither can control themselves.

This story has many of the characters from prior books but can be read as a standalone.

As with all of her other books I could not put this down. I love the way she writes here characters and the humor in every story. With this one, the love between these two characters is so evident that you can't not root for them to be together!

This story starts a new series set in the quirky town of Winter Falls. While characters from the prior series do appear, this book can be read as a standalone. Indigo’s grandmother lived in Winter Falls and Indigo spent summers there as she was growing up. Her difficult mom was estranged from her own mother, so Indigo hadn’t visited her grandmother for a few years. She returns to Winter Falls to handle her grandmother’s funeral and estate after her grandmother passes. Coincidentally (it’s fiction after all), her high school boyfriend Cash is now in a famous rock band that will be recording an album in Winter Falls’ recording studio. He has discovered his own connection to Winter Falls and the Bragg brothers. Since fate has intervened, they get to work through the issues that had separated them and figure out if they can have a HEA. They get help from Winter Falls’ busybodies, friends and family members. I downgraded one star for the number of coincidences and because high school loves aren’t a favorite trope. Even with the coincidences and high school love-of-my-life angst, this is a fun romance story with some heat and a HEA. I’d add a half-star back for Indigo’ cat (and its name). So much fun! Not for the first time I find myself wishing Goodreads did half stars.
This was a 3.5-star book for me.
There was enough to keep me interested but it was all over the place at the beginning.
It reminds me of something else I've read, but I can't think of what it is.
I preferred the secondary characters to the main couple. The Gossip Gals could have been featured more. I liked Cash's bandmates too.
Not sure what is going on with all the names in Whispering Falls though and often, a character's name like Gratitude, threw me out of the reading groove.
I do like an inheritance with a catch, but Indigo's grandmother expecting her granddaughter to leave a great teaching job, apartment, and life for a full year seemed a bit too meddling.
I liked where this was going. But it could have used some polishing. Cash and Indigo's dialogue and inner thoughts weren't clearly distinguished and sometimes their arguments came out of nowhere and resolved just as quickly.
I didn't get as emotionally attached to this pair as I would have liked. It all seemed very surface-level and they could have been fleshed out more.
This is a good book to read if you have a couple of hours spare and enjoy rock star romances or second chance romances, especially with quirky small towns.
