In Scotland, 1502, Mairenn MacLeod makes a move from working as a housemaid in the south to working at the castle in the north, for the King. She begins to develop a fascination with him for reasons she can’t figure out, and when she sees the doors to the usually-locked throne room open in the middle of the night everything changes. Struggling with her mental health and a manipulative relationship, Mairenn becomes suspicious that the King has a secret, one that is not of this natural Earth.
I loved this book so much. The writing style was so poetic and the romance was one of the best I’ve read in a very long time. It evoked so many emotions in me and I wish I could go back and restart this entire experience. I’m so happy I read this and so sad that it’s over.
