Never in a million years would I have thought my life would look like what it does today. If I told my younger self that I not only love to read but that I write books for a living … well let’s just say we would be attending her funeral. Books will forever hold a special place in my heart. At the age of nineteen, I immersed myself in the world of fiction and was lucky enough to be dragged out of a dark abyss. Books have been there for me through thick and thin, helping shape the person I am today and I hope for some, my books will do the same. In whatever capacity that may be.

Now 👏🏼 that 👏🏼 is 👏🏼 how 👏🏼 you 👏🏼 write 👏🏼 a 👏🏼 sequel! 👏🏼

Firstly, I would just like to say a massive thank you to Mads for providing me with an early copy of Heir of Broken Kingdom 🩵

Being entirely honest, while yes, I did still quite enjoy book one, I wasn't totally obsessed with it. However, book two completely surpassed my expectations and now has me in desperate need of book three...

Mads has such an incredible way with words, and the way she conveys emotions within her writing is truly beautiful and powerful. I feel that there was so much more personal growth for a lot of the characters within this book, which really allowed me to connect with them on a deeper level.

I will say, one thing I did not expect were the PLOT TWISTS HELLO!!? They were such a great and unexpected addition to this book, some of which I truly cannot wait to see how will play out in the following book(s).

If you think you've got everything figured out in this book... just you wait 🤯🤯🤯

If you're on the fence about starting this series, please take this as your sign to give it a go because it truly does have everything you could ever ask for in a good fantasy.
I also feel that if you have been wanting to take the plunge and dive into the world of fantasy, this series is an incredible starting place, as it is so easy to read, understand and immerse yourself in.

Again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you so much to Mads for allowing me to read and review a copy of Heir of Broken Kingdom. I am so beyond proud of you and all your hard work 🩵

umm okay so i think it’s safe to say this series is not for me. i loved the concept and i was very surprised by the plot twist at the end, but for some reason it just felt very underwhelming. the writing also felt like it was doing too much because there was a lot of unnecessary sentences that felt like they were just there to add length to the book. i liked the concept of the plot, but the writing was just not it for me. there were so many times where i was just confused and a little bit bored. overall this book was kind of fun, but it was definitely not my favorite :((

pre-read thoughts:

i’m seeing great things about this sequel soooooo i think i’ll give it a try soon!

no because i am not okay - i’m crying and sweating and i NEED the next book now! holy freak!

i really enjoyed the first book, but this one?! amazing job Mads! the badassness and the fantasy have really been ampted up🙌🏼😍

the book is full of all the fantasy elements I love! lots of power, magic, fights, plotting and fated mates romance - but also so many emotional moments and events where my heart breaks for Delilah (and others)💔 Mads is really out here torturing her characters and in the process also making them grow so much! Delilah is so fierce and strong!
Delilah and Knox’ realationsship is so pure🌟 I loved seeing them together and being there for eachother🥺

there were so many plot twists in this book i got dizzy (in a good way). i did predict some of them, but holy shish the ending had me breaking my jaw. it's fully on the floor beside me🤯 and THE KING?! pure evilness, like dayum that man is the definition of evil!😦

this needs to be on every fantasy lovers shelf!

thank you so SO much to Mads for sending me with an ARC of this fantastic book! can i get the next one now? pretty please and thank you 💕

“I will go to the end of the world for you, Angel. Don’t rob me of what I want. I’m not requesting, I’m vowing to follow you to the end of the universe.”

Absolutely heart-wrenching, beautiful, and shocking!

After recently finishing ‘Heir of Broken Fate’ I was eager to get my hands on ‘Heir of Broken Kingdom’ and what a journey this sequel takes you on. It takes off right from where things ended in HOBF, leaving out no detail to the utter devastation and suspense to the events that unfurled and those that are yet to come.

Mads has a way with twisting the plot because after Delilah’s premonition you automatically assume that that is where the story will eventually lead and right up until the end that is how it seems. Nothing — and I mean NOTHING — could have prepared me for the ending of this book. The utter betrayal from one of the least likely of characters, and the more you read the further the plot thickens as well as the countless unanswered questions.

I do feel as though the romance between Delilah and Knox was left out in this sequel, and I would have loved to have seen more of them together. Having to hide their bond and the conflicts between the two characters seemed to go unresolved for long periods of time. While the events totally called for this, I do wish there was a little more chemistry between them considering they are mates.

Overall, I really enjoyed this sequel and all the events that transpired between the characters. The storyline was utterly devastating and just when you think you’re at the end, something else happens that leaves you in a puddle of your own tears.

I’ll now be staring at a wall until further notice 🫠

tropes: betrayal, romantasy, found family, dark magic, mermaids, griffins, fated-mates, mentions of abuse/grief/torture

OH. MY. GOD. ❤️‍🔥

This book!
INCREDIBLE! 🩵

Twists, turns, suspense.. betrayal. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time reading this!

We learn so much about Delilah as we go through this journey with her, the writing in this book is so beautifully done that I felt like I was right there with her every step of the way.
The way I had to smack my hand over my mouth CONSTANTLY because I was SHOOK!

Fae, demons, mermaids, royalty, a fight with fate itself.. what isn’t to love! If you’re going to pick up a book this year, she is the one!
Chefs kiss, honestly ✨

I am deeply grateful to Mads Rafferty for selecting me as an ARC reader for "Heir of Broken Kingdom." It's an honor that I cherish. Having adored "Heir of Broken Fate," I had high expectations, and I'm thrilled to say that "Heir of Broken Kingdom" exceeded them in every way.

The first book already encompassed all my favorite tropes, and this continuation did not disappoint. "Heir of Broken Fate" and "Heir of Broken Kingdom" are stories that leave an indelible mark. The profound character growth in "Heir of Broken Kingdom" is both powerful and moving. Rafferty's skill in making readers fall deeply in love with the characters and experience every emotion they feel is truly remarkable.

What truly immerses you in this world is the unique world-building and storyline. With every turn of the page, "Heir of Broken Kingdom" elicits laughter, tears, and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Rafferty fearlessly delves into the emotional and physical hardships of her characters, making you feel every little thing they experience.

Throughout the story, the characters face myriad challenges that change their world. This book has undoubtedly earned a spot in my Hall of Fame. The emotions, heartache, love, and hardship portrayed within its pages are relentless. It's a constant whirlwind of action that compels you to utter, "Just one more chapter," until you've devoured the entire book.

I'm already bracing myself for a reading funk that will likely last weeks, eagerly awaiting (albeit somewhat impatiently) the next installment in this gripping saga.

HOBK was such a good sequel to HOBF. I loved the adventure that our characters embarked on, even if it went in a different direction than I originally thought it would. I was pleasantly surprised, to say the least.

The PLOT TWISTS in this book OMG! I didn't seem them coming. The last few chapters had me absolutely shaken! The emotions this book made me feel and the connections I felt to the characters helped me quickly become super invested in the storyline.

Fae, mermaids, griffins, epic battles, jaw-dropping plot twists, and killer romantasy tropes. Look no further, HOBK has it all.

The absolute hatred I feel for certain characters is only amplified by the way the book ended! All the things Deliliah has to endure in this book are gut-wrenching, and I can't wait to see how she gets retribution. I'm intrigued to see where their next adventure will take us....

Reading books like this reignites my love for fantasy. When "Heir of Broken Kingdom" appeared on my Kindle, I was hooked from the start. Even though some time had passed since I read the first book, "Heir of Broken Fate," I could easily recall the characters and storyline to seamlessly pick up where we left off. However, I realized that revisiting the first book before delving into this one would have enhanced the experience.

The author's remarkable talent for capturing emotions vividly allows readers to truly immerse themselves in the depicted feelings. It's a beautiful and profound journey. Her writing reflects personal encounters with emotional pain and heartache, yet also conveys emotional wisdom through the characters, stemming from her own experiences.

This emotional depth makes reading these stories a true treasure, as if the words and emotions are etching themselves into your soul permanently.

These characters have faced so many challenges, and I feel so deeply for them. 🥹

I am eagerly looking forward to book three. The ending of this story leaves us craving more and beyond.

Thank you Mads for sending me the ARC of this book!

I gave this series a second shot as book 1 wasn’t my favorite however, this book was so enjoyable and emotional!

I loved seeing the characters go on their own journeys throughout this book, there was a small part of the book that I felt dragged but it picked right back up. The plot twists and story telling were amazing and I love how Mads built this world that I felt fully immersed in!

The ending was insane, tears were shed and I am so excited for book 3! This series is a must read, releases April 9th💖

Once again thank you for the arc 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼

This gets two stars because the author actually has a good idea, but has no idea how to build it. Or write.
A thought I wrote early on in my activity was : Doesn’t the author have an editor? A proofreader? An honest friend?
I stand by that now. Anyone at all who read this and picked up on the plethora of errors and misuse of language and absolute confusion in some parts? How it jumps from one scene to the next in a sentence?
You can tell she’s ‘borrowed’ ideas for characters and worlds from other series like the Maasverse and The Hunger Games. I noticed it very heavily in the first book and again in this one. I won’t say it’s a blatant ripoff because she’s obviously tried to make some changes, but some aren’t entirely enough to say that it’s not Rhysand, Feyre, Aelin and Rowan, even down to the connections, bonds, phrases and magic sharing of the characters.
The writing in this one is juvenile at best, I didn’t notice it as much in the first book, possibly because I was distracted by the similarities to another book, but it feels a lot like year 7 writing where the teacher tells you to insert an adjective to make your writing more interesting, so the kids add one in front of EVERY SINGLE word they can. Only it’s not a couple of paragraphs, it’s an entire book. And the adjectives are repetitive. Crimson. Warm. Metallic. Large. Quirk. Over and over and over again. And for simple things, crimson blood, warm hand, large hand, warm hand, large hand, crimson blood.
And I don’t think the word metallic was used correctly once.
There were several words used incorrectly and sentences that were so grammatically incorrect they didn’t make sense and I had to read them twice. “Submerge my hand into his hair” I mean I *get* it, but, no. No editor or publisher worth their salt would let that slide.
The spicy chapters were odd. Not a lot of thought was put into the flow, I have never been asked to lay down and “spread my hands above my head” so someone could tie them together. She’s trying and I appreciate the effort, but it missed. By a lot.

To keep it short, it would good story if the author had been able to build her own world and characters. Otherwise, unoriginal characters, average writing, often hard to keep focused because the incorrect use of words and grammar, and seeing Rhysand, Feyre, Aelin and Rowan, and some of the districts (or sectors as they’re called in this book) bothered me.

I wouldn’t recommend it. I will be skipping book 3 because I can’t put myself through the frustration. There’s free fanfics if I want to annoy myself with average writing.

I just skimmed through half of the book I was too bored and I have a lot of opinions about this book !!
First of all it is not a disaster, if you liked the first one you will probably like this one, I say probably because it was not my case. I just couldn’t get into the story this time, the whole plot felt unnecessary.
Now I have to say something about the book in general : THIS IS AN ACOTAR FANFIC!!
You will basically find a copy of an acotar character in this book.
First the male lead : the love interest Knox, he has the same physical appearance as Rhysand and is known as the most powerful king of all time just like Rhysand… Then he calls Delilah “Angel” which is a cringey version of the beloved “feyre darling” and btw Knox has no purpose no real depth besides being the love interest…
Then we have Axel : the cheap and badly executed version of Azriel, this character tried to be as mysterious as azriel but he simply was not. PLUS THE VERY VERY HEAVILY INSPIRED QUOTE : “talk to her like that I fucking dare you “ something like that with the “ Be careful how you speak about my High Lady”.
Then Harlow as Amren : a similar personality and a similar dynamic with Lenox as Cassian. Harlow makes fun of Lenox for being Knox’s pet just like Amren with Cassian.
Delilah is just annoying. She’s always crying, vomiting, nearly dying, passing out, or erupting with her golden magic or whatever… because she’s just too powerful. :))(
Plus Lenox is the nice, comedic character, like Cassian :/

This is not structured at all sorry,
I also feel like Hazel’s betrayal just did not make sense, like why? I don’t think losing her daughter to some dark magic beasts would encourage her to work with the dark magic people or whatever… like it just doesn’t make sense to me… It just feels as if the author needed a betrayal and didn’t know who to choose, she didn’t plan it so it was random!
No hate to this book but I didn’t really enjoy it 🫶🏼

“You are strong. Let your scars be a reminder of that, of all you have overcome. Let them remind you in your darkest days that this is not the end. That you will make it out the other side, with a new scar that proves your journey and bravery.”

I am currently trying to type this through my tears.
I ADORED this sequel to Heir of Broken Fate. I see so much of myself in Delilah and hold her dear to my heart.

fae, griffins, mermaids, dragons, romance like no other. need I say more?

the. plot. twists.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 my jaw dropped at least 10 times in this book. The last few chapters absolutely destroyed me in the best way. I thought I was invested in Delilah’s story in HOBF, but NOW??? I need to know everything else that happens immediately.

I will never be able to stop thinking about this book honestly.
so ready to see what will happen next!

The ending of this book had no right to bring me so much heartache.

This book was phenomenally written and the story line was so easy to follow.
I read ‘Heir Of Broken Fate’ back in June, and after so many months of waiting for the next book I was pleased beyond belief. The way the story flows makes it very easy to remember what happened in the first book without having to go back and reread it.

I am beyond grateful that I got an ARC of this book and will be recommending this series to anyone who listens. Thank you for giving me this opportunity, it’s one I will cherish forever!

I am utterly speechless because this book was the most insane roller coaster I’ve read in such a long time, dear god. I went from absolutely hating it and putting it aside for months to finishing it in just two days because it got SO good. The ending?? I’m sorry?? The betrayal?? I’m stunned. I would rate it a solid 5 if it weren’t for the fact that I had to read more than half of it before it actually got interesting. I did not expect to be writing this at all a week ago, but now I’m so excited for the next book!!

I had high hopes of thus book. In the beginning I struggled a little bit, because I finished part 1 a longer time ago. The story begins with a lot of action, so I had to think back of the last story. Through the story, I enjoyed it a lot. Some of the plots I did not see coming. The storyline was very good. At this moment I’n really struggling with my reading slump and I think this is the reason of this rating.

Book 2 in the Heir of Broken Fate series and it definitely keeps it's pace from book 1, ok it's a little repetitive in places and you can have a eye roll moment whilst screaming just bloody get on with it but a part from that it's still an exciting and pulse pounding read with twists you don't see coming and an ending where I hope we don't have to wait forever for book 3📚

first, thank you mads for the arc!!

….but i am not kidding when i say this was one of my top reads of the year. i enjoyed the first book but this one knocked it out of the ball park. it had everything i could ask for in a book. the action and romance was UNMATCHED. it was such a good playing field for both. not too much of either and not too less. i adore delilah so so much and i feel for her on so many levels. it had me giggling, screaming, crying, staring at the wall.

i don’t want to make this terribly long but dare i say… a 6 star read?

2🌶️

📒 Action packed right from the start
📒 love the Chemistry between Knox & Delilah
📒 There is just so much death around her and the heart ache was felt through the pages
📒When Delilah and Knox reunite after being separated at Kings palace made me feel all the feels
📒I would have liked to see Delilah be stronger in mind than she is. A lot of self doubt talk that I didn’t think fit with her overall persona.
📒 Wow the way Knox is so taken with Delilah he says the most amazing things. He is definitely worthy of being a book boyfriend.

🍷“Wherever you go, whatever you must face, know that I’ll be right beside you. You don’t have to tackle life alone anymore, Delilah. I will always be there for you, and we will face whatever life decides to throw at us together, as one.”
🍷”For eternity, for however long it consumes us. We’ll go together, as one.”
🍷“You must be strong as you face this, but on the days where you cannot find the courage, I’ll be strong for the both of us.”

Okay soooo…not my favourite. It took me literally until 79% of the way through to actually get into it. What happened to Easton - shocked me to my core.

I did feel like there was a lot of back and forth with Knox and Delilah about the same thing over and over again. Delilah got annoying because of that.

Ace?!?? wtf he didn’t need to die! That surprised me when he died! So sad. Hazel can go and die thank you very much.

I dont know if I want to read the third book but I also do just to see how it ends.

Ahhhhh … unfortunately this didn’t hit the mark for me.

Mads has such a good idea but the execution just isn’t it. It feels too all over the place and rushed - It felt like the same events repeating themselves in each chapter & the ending…?!

3* is generous but giving it more for Mads’ intentions as well as the potential.
