Okay so after the ending in book 2 I was mortified but I thought “well at least we don’t have the detailed and described things that happen to her written out”
Wrong. I was so wrong. It’s mentioned multiple times in this book and I felt like there wasn’t enough healing time at alle
There was just a lot of “oh this happened but I still want to fuck you”

Happy I’m done

Apologies for the short review. My ipad went to Apple heaven along with everything on it, along with all my notes from this book!! So this review is going to be SHORT.

This picks up right where the previous book left off. Where we were left floundering in the dark eagerly awaiting this to release. Go into this series blind, read them back to back and get all those feels which were wrung out of me whilst reading this.

The perfect ending to a series I wholeheartedly loved! This series as a whole exceeded all my expectations, the dark & grit, the heartbreak & love harmoniously walked hand in hand! This ticked all my boxes and I’m so eager to see these two co-write again!

STORY:
WHAT I LIKED:
I like the way Aspen and Quinton’s story concluded. Although what happen to Aspen in the end of book 2 was sad and bad, it was entertaining seeing Quinton go on a rampage.he went in hulk mode with his revenge. It was interesting how Aspen’s past play out with her family and seeing Quinton’s family coming together to include her. The relationship between Quinton and Aspen grew, although it was still a tiny bit hot and old but only for a moment. I really enjoyed the ending for them.

WHAT WAS SO SO:
Book 3 for me, I really did not have any major dislikes. It’s tying up loose ends and I don’t hav that many complaints.

SEXUAL CHEMISTRY
Although Aspen had trauma that she endured, I thought the sex scenes after were still satisfactory. Once Aspen and Quinton got back into it, it gradually build and became good.

SECONDARY CHARACTERS:
Exciting to see certain people and was more excited to see some people were extinct. Lucas story will be next and I am interested to see where this series will go.

OVERALL:
Was I entertained? Yes.
Did I like the story? Yes.
Would I read the other books in the series? Yes.

TRIGGERS: Violence, rape and torture.

****I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.

The ending book was not as engrossing as I hoped it would be. Everybody that at one time literally tried to kill Aspen (Lucas, Xander, Ren) have suddenly decided to like Aspen now for no discernible reason. Lucas was the most bizarre of all. One minute he won't send anyone to rescue her after a helicopter crash and the next he is her hero when she needs to be evacuated from the school. Suddenly he defends her and he is on her side for NO REASON we are given after that. (and btw, we never find out why they needed to evacuate and what happened there - a lot like the bomb from Phoenix... what the hell was that? How could he have placed that on a secure campus? So ridiculously plotted. And why isn't the whole underworld after that guy now? C'mon. ) Lucas never apologized for trying to starve her to death or for allowing and encouraging the students to harass her constantly. Ren is supposed to be Q's best friend but I found him skeevy and untrustworthy. Xander is a grown man picking on an 18 y/o because he hates her dad. Grow the ef up. He is just a dick that wanted her dead and set her up to die in that crash. He then emotionally blackmails Q into separating from Aspen when she needs support the most and none of these guys ever show any remorse. Q takes the cliché "I'll make her hate me" tack to get her to leave right when she needs him the most. Once they are all "nice" to her, she doesn't hold any of them accountable.

If you got tired of hearing how much Q needed "control" over Aspen in the first book, I think you'll find it just as tiring to hear how "strong" Aspen is in this one.

I was very frustrated with this book. So if the pseudo bad guys that we are supposed to forgive were head scratching for motive, the real Bad Guys were impossible to figure out motive for. Why? Why the hell did Mateo do what he did and then taunt Q? Why Aspen? Why? Why? Why? There is no motive for the single-minded, determination Mateo has for what he does knowing how powerful the Rossi family is. Why send that video? Why taunt them? And Nash. Why? Why wouldn't he have just handed his camera phone to someone and get involve at the time rather then thinking at some random time he was just going to walk into her room in Corium and go after her? Why would he do that? He knows what the Rossi's did to the Valentines. WTF is the drive and motive for everyone to lose their minds about needing to rape Aspen? This book gave no clue into any of that which makes it all random and dumb and impossible to find compelling.

Then there are random people, like Vito, Anjou? (the Russian girl that killed her dad) and Delilah that pretty much bring nothing to the story with them. Where did the Russian girl go? She was just starting to thaw out about Aspen, maybe, at the end of book two and then never shows up again in book 3. Vito comes and goes but could have been any random student, really, The Delilah character had no purpose at all. None. Why not just tell them that he is her brother? Why be kidnapped and tortured and not just give that info up, especially after she just admitted she didn't like him and they didn't accept her into the family? Adding her was just a ridiculous distraction for nothing.

Finally, besides all the shallow plotting and non existent motive for half the books, in the third book 95% of it has Q and Aspen separated and communicating via text mostly, afraid to get caught still talking. Then we get an unbelievable plot twist and an incredibly rushed and cheesy ending that didn't feel fulfilling at all.

I had so much higher hopes for this.

DNF @8% - too much details on the gang rape. It felt like they were trying to make it titillating with the dirty talk. DURING A GANG RAPE.

Nah. I’m good. I don’t care about the ending THAT much.

Note: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Note 2: This is a trilogy. Please read in order. King of Corium is the first. Drop Dead Queen is the next. Broken Kingdom is the third and final novel in the trilogy.

Trigger Warnings: brutal violence depicted, drug use, gang rape, rape, assault, death, murder, torture, bullying, abandonment, betrayal, cyberstalking, bombs mentioned, harassment.

My reviews for book 1 and 2:

1. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... - King of Corium.
2. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... - Drop Dead Queen.

Well this one threw me off. You know how the books kept getting darker and I thought there was no end to those because some sadistic twisted part of me loathed and loved it, and I thought damn I need more...

And then I got this book, the promise land.

But...

It turned into flowery stuff - like the first chapter is brutal (reference to trigger warnings) but the main antihero gets turned into the hero....I did not sign up for that honest to god. SOMEONE CHECK THE DAMN SIGNUP SHEET AGAIN? MKAY Thanks.

Of course there are still references of triggering scenes here and there, but it's just so lightened down..and the hero turns into a complete mush in a okay I don't get it but maybe I'll love it mush fact when he comes into support for the FMC.

But thank god for the plot twists, action and actual villainous characters. Otherwise how would my dark soul survive?

And that's pretty much my review - a mushy light story now with some dark elements...so much for the much much darker version that I was supposed to get in this.

Geez.

Until the next read,

DNF. *trigger warning* *spoilers* You know I really enjoyed the first two books until the end of the second when the authors had the main character gang r*ped and drugged. In no way is this the woke writing they think it is. I had low hopes for the 3rd book and once I started reading it I could tell something was off. The writing is so bad… it felt like I was reading something off wattpad by a 12 year-old. Which confused me because from what I can remember the first two books weren’t that bad. Also the authors had the main character have sex with ~Quinton~ so soon after that traumatic event. It seems like the only way these authors know how to progress a plot is by putting more trauma on the main character. Like she was drugged, gang r*ped, lost her baby she had with her bully, lost her father, and then found out her father wasn’t her biological father. All in the span of like 20 chapters. I can’t see how anyone could enjoy this badly written, traumatic book.

Broken Kingdom picks up where Drop Dead Queen ended with more secrets and lies, more ruthlessness, more captivating story. I have loved this series from start to finish. This conclusion of Quinton and Aspen's journey has been everything I wanted and more.

Q is on a war path and wants revenge for what happened to Aspen. You do not want to get on his bad side. He just might make ya bleed. He is torn between family obligations and following his heart for a girl that has come into his life like a tornado. Can he be brave enough to cross the Rossi name and be the man that Aspen desperately needs in her life.

These two are one of my favorite couples! The journey to the HEA was long, tragic and beautiful.
If you're in the mood for a mafia trilogy that is filled with heartbreaking moments, intense storylines and characters that keep you guessing and spice that is fire then you need to binge this one. This series was AMAZING!!!!

The conclusion to Quinton and Aspen’s love story. Awwwww. I actually enjoyed this book and honestly, I think it had a lot to do with the fact I read it instead of listening to the audio. I ended up giving this 4 stars, but I can’t guarantee this rating wasn’t because I was in my feels from that stupid Basilisk book.

Yes, our love was born from hate, but aren’t the best love stories born in some type of tragedy? Is it really love if you don’t have to fight for it to some degree?

Aspen is recovering at Quinton’s house from the attack by Matteo. We know Q’s dad, Xander, hates Aspen, so how will he handle that?

We finally have both of them acknowledging their feelings, but the road to the “L” word is never smooth, so there’s some heartbreak before they get there.

Everyone returns to school but could there be another enemy out there? Magic 8 ball says “all signs point to yes”.

“Aspen, you’re the strongest person I know. No matter how much shit people put you through, including me, you never let it break you. You got back up every time with your head held high. You even stood up to my father, and I’ve seen grown men piss their pants in his presence.”

Eventually, they are forced to address all the issues plaguing them and they get their HFN. Their love story turned out pretty sweet in this book. I actually shed a little tear.

SEX: There isn’t much since the first part of the book is Aspen dealing with the rape. The times they are together is actually sweet.

FYI: You see a big surge in Jude’s character time (the school’s guardian/principal/director). I assume that’s because he gets his own book next, which I also found odd. I don’t see a book for Ren (Q’s cousin/BFF) or Scarlett (Q’s sister). I would have preferred those stories instead of Jude’s.

TRIGGERS: You get more details of Aspen’s rape.

AUDIO: Still don’t recommend the audio. It sucks.

I suppose I recommend this. Just know that it's really long and has a lot of repetition and filler.

Why did I read this whole series? I have no clue. This had so many plot holes that my head hurts. I’m legitimately shocked at all the high reviews.

Everyone all of a sudden likes Aspen? Especially Lucas who literally wouldn’t sent help when she crashed from the helicopter?? Makes no sense.

Ren gives me the creeps. Xander is threatening a literal teenager over her father. It’s juvenile and immature. Quinton is just dumb as a box of rocks, and constantly does the wrong thing, when he should be trying to make up for his rough past with Aspen.

Don’t get me started on Matteo. The book starts out with everyone being the villain toward Aspen, but all of sudden halfway through the series Matteo is the villain?! And for what, just to rape her? And then Nash?? What’s with everyone wanting to rape her and why is this the main plot????

The end didn’t make me feel any better and I’ve decided this series is just a bunch of weird ideas smooshed together. I didn’t enjoy and I’m surprised I didn’t discontinue.

Review :
Quinton and Aspen are back! I have been positively dying for this book after that cliffhanger for the second one. The ending of that book broke and I just wanted to hurt so many people lmao. But Quinton gave us the revenge we wanted in a spectacular manner!

With revenge books , mostly the main villain just dies in the end. I mean years and years of pain and torture and they just kill him off with a single shot. That always leaves me wanting more 🤣 I am vengeful person! But that was not the case in this book. Quinton made everyone pay and boy did he take his time. I loved every single chapter and even the cameos by the other characters from the books. The epilogue was sweet and amazing because of that.

The revenge part of the book was done rather quickly and the storyline after that seemed a tiny bit irrelevant to me but later when that twist came, I knew it was picking up again! I always hoped that Aspen would grow more balls lol but that never happened. She had that inner strength in her but I just wanted her to snap because she had suffered so much. Definitely recommending this trilogy to all the dark high school bully romance loving people. This one is a MF book with tons and tons of triggers so keep that in mind please!

The problem with reading a series and being engrossed in it is that when you end up waiting for the conclusion, I think the anticipation outshines the reality.

The first 2 books of this series were brutal. BRUTAL. And the cliffhanger on the 2nd book? It literally made me freeze a moment and think WTH? I mean, you could NOT read it without feeling a little ill. I could NOT wait to see what happened next. So I feel I would have rated this book higher if I had went straight from the 2nd book to this final book in the trilogy. As it stands, while I think the book is fine, it was a tad of a let down.

I think the problem I had with it is that the first 2 books are horribly violent towards Aspen. I mean, this is a 100% perfect example of Stockholm Syndrome if I ever read one.

For it to turn into such a sweet, happy ending is somehow...I want to say disingenuous. I mean, given what Aspen went through especially at the end of book 2, I just couldn't buy into her rainbows and unicorn personality especially towards the end. I mean, it's ok to have an HEA where the MCs are still f*cked up. You know? As long as it's honest to their characters and situations. Like Sam Mariano books. You get an HEA. Only the people don't change. Their evil craziness just works for each other. But here, I just felt that Quinton really changed beyond recognition and it was just too sugary sweet for me. Especially given how violent most of the book was.

Still, Hallman can write so there's that.

OMG, this poor girl! I was so flippin' ready to see Aspen kick some serious butt in this installment. I can't remember the last time I saw a heroine put through such hell. I was very happy to see that, for the most part, the book totally delivered on that front. I will say, there was one part in the beginning and one thing that Quintin said to her that, sorry, not sorry, I took off a full star for it. I don't care what the reasons were, that was a piece of crap thing to say to her. It made me hate Quintin in that moment.

Luckily, Aspen was the bigger person here and this was really the only part of the story I didn't like. I loved the resolution and that everyone got what they deserved, both good and bad!

Really, from the moment this book started, it sucked me up and I was not able to put it down until the end.

I know I'm not telling you very much at all but if you love dark academia, bully romances, then this is a series not to be missed. And let me tell you how much a LOVED this ending. I was hoping a certain something would turn out like it did! :))

I cannot wait to read Lucas's story next. I already pre-ordered!

I received an e-ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. The opinions expressed here are my own.

Broken Kingdom is the third and final book within the Corium University Trilogy. Remember how I asked for revenge in the second book? Well, it was delivered and I'm happy. Mostly because I was still upset with what down between certain horrible men and Aspen. I'm sure Quinton was feeling the exact same way. Probably more than me because of what we found out when the doctor came. But still, we were both upset.

Quinton and his family get all the revenge and more. It still doesn't keep Aspen safe though because someone knows what happened. Now they want a turn with her, and she decides not to tell Quinton. She wants to learn how to defend herself so whenever they strike, she's prepared. Luckily, when she comes back to school her life changes. She's still a student but has private classes instead.

The day the attack comes, she's ready. I honestly wasn't expecting it to go down that way but I'm also secretly impressed. She knew what she was walking into and did it with her head held high. She was a complete bad ass in that moment, and I was so happy for her. Then I realized what the consequences were going to be and felt sad.

In the end, Quinton finally did what he should have done in the first book. Acknowledged his feelings for her and made her his. Now the whole world knows and she's untouchable. Sort of. Together they are a team and can take on anyone. I'm also really happy that she got revenge on a certain someone too towards the end.
