I'm sort of in an epic reading slump. Well, perhaps "reading slump" isn't the proper phrase, but I've been struggling for quite a while now with finding books to read. Once I find a book I like, I'm good, but I can spend a long time searching for one. Anyway, Christina Traister is a favorite narrator of mine so I thought I would try out The Remix by Jennifer Haymore. This is a novella, which, as we all know, can be tricky to pull off, but I really liked The Remix!

The Remix is about successful musician Rebecca West, and pilot Tyler Knox. While on the way to visit her friends in the Caribbean, their plane has issues, and they end up stranded on an uninhabited island, and, well, I'm sure you know that romance happens.

I really liked both Rebecca and Tyler. As Rebecca is a famous pop star, that definitely adds some complications to their romance, particularly for Tyler, who doesn't feel like he's in the same league as Rebecca. But I sure did love Tyler. He was so very calm during the airplane crash, and really helped Rebecca stay calm. Totally the kind of guy I love, because I'm totally one to panic.

I am a big fan of Christina Traister, the narrator, who has a number of romances quite well, and she totally does it well reading The Remix, too. I even think I enjoyed this novella more because of Christina Traister's narration.

Of course, as The Remix is a novella, things are a bit rushed. But the romance didn't feel insta-love because Rebecca and Tyler have known each other for a bit. I really like when novellas feature couples who have known each other before the start of the story. As much as I enjoyed the book while reading, it doesn't stick with you, and I've forgotten quite a lot of it now, just a week later. Still, this was the right book at the right time for me.This review was originally posted on Quinn's Book Nook
