The storyline started off promising but then fell flat. I didn’t feel the feelings between Axton and Jaelynn, and I’m still confused about what Javan’s plan was.
Also, Jaelynn mentioned arranged marriages being a thing in her family but nothing came of that. I thought maybe Niles was going to pressure Jaelynn into marrying Javan or somebody else but nope. It was just a throwaway line.
Annnddd the scenes with the threesome and Javan confronting Emma were unnecessary. Nothing really happened during them, and we could’ve used those pages/word count somewhere else in the book to flush out the details of Javan’s plan [because, again, I still don’t understand why he was pressed or what his actual plan was].
Axton and Jaelynn had a lot of sexual chemistry and they later tried to convince me that some feelings were involved but I didn’t really buy it. It felt more like they were just intrigued by one another since the sex was good between them. We don’t really get scenes of them dating. (There’s a scene where they hang out at Jaelynn’s house and they go on a trip later but that’s about it.)
I did like that Jaelynn had a friend though. It’s been a while since I’ve seen Aladdin, but as I think back on it, I don’t remember Jasmine having friends. If I’m remembering correctly, that was a nice addition. I also liked how the book ended. Instead of the usual HEA, we get Axton and Jaelynn talking things out and getting together. After all of the events that took place, this ending made the most sense to me.
