This was a very interesting take on the Aladdin story. It has a little bit of sex scenes but overall it discusses how ‘Jamar’ tries to dethrone the Sultan. I like that the author was able to make this well known story fit the modern day lives of people. I wish that it had more depth into the conflict between Jaelynn and Axton. It seems like she forgiven him too quickly and wasn’t much of a struggle/conflict. First time reading from this author.

Love at first wish

This author did a great job on this retelling of Aladdin. The story was well written and kept me wondering what was going to happen next. Axton and Lynn had great chemistry and I’m glad things worked out the way it did. I would recommend this book.

Love at first wish

I enjoyed this retelling of Aladdin and thought it was well written. Axton and Jaelynn were cute together and I loved their easy chemistry both in and out of the bedroom. I wish I was able to get more into their future but this book ended with a happy for now that I was pleased with.

Secrets

Secrets sure add to a story in a good and frustrating way. The air of mystery and intrigue kept me guessing. Who was good? I was even questioning the glam squad.

The storyline started off promising but then fell flat. I didn’t feel the feelings between Axton and Jaelynn, and I’m still confused about what Javan’s plan was.

Also, Jaelynn mentioned arranged marriages being a thing in her family but nothing came of that. I thought maybe Niles was going to pressure Jaelynn into marrying Javan or somebody else but nope. It was just a throwaway line.

Annnddd the scenes with the threesome and Javan confronting Emma were unnecessary. Nothing really happened during them, and we could’ve used those pages/word count somewhere else in the book to flush out the details of Javan’s plan [because, again, I still don’t understand why he was pressed or what his actual plan was].

Axton and Jaelynn had a lot of sexual chemistry and they later tried to convince me that some feelings were involved but I didn’t really buy it. It felt more like they were just intrigued by one another since the sex was good between them. We don’t really get scenes of them dating. (There’s a scene where they hang out at Jaelynn’s house and they go on a trip later but that’s about it.)

I did like that Jaelynn had a friend though. It’s been a while since I’ve seen Aladdin, but as I think back on it, I don’t remember Jasmine having friends. If I’m remembering correctly, that was a nice addition. I also liked how the book ended. Instead of the usual HEA, we get Axton and Jaelynn talking things out and getting together. After all of the events that took place, this ending made the most sense to me.

📗This was soooooo good! It gave me Empire meets White Collar tv series vibes! Jalynn was wild lol but I loved her sass, freeness and the way she was able to express herself. Axton: Now this man was so smart! He definitely gave me Aladdin vibes with a technological twist!

📚What if you were the daughter of the biggest music mogul that wanted to marry you off to an older man that he paraded you around to, would you stand up for yourself and your heart, is your heart and life not on the line, what if you infiltrated major corporate typhoons skimming money off the books, would you get away uncaught, will you catch the attention of an old friend on the dark web, would you lose the mystery girl that you keep having risqué encounters with? If you want to know the answers to these questions make your way over to KU and download this short read!

Yes!

This was my first book I ready by Erika B and my first retelling of Aladdin.
Axton is not the down on his luck character we expect. He has money but does live his life looking over his shoulder. Jaelynn loves her dad but he wants to arrange a marriage for his daughter. Javan wants to get rid of Jaelynn’s father but wants to use Axton to do it.
There are soooooo many twists and turns in this story, it was such a great read I didn’t want the story to end!

Great Retelling!!!

Love at first wish is an excellent retelling of the fairytale Aladdin. Erika did an outstanding job retelling Aladdin from her perspective. It’s an urban romance with lots of interesting characters and of course some drama.

Axton and Jaelynn’s chemistry was simply amazing, which made you want them to get their HEA in the end. I will definitely be rereading their love story again and recommend this book to everyone that loves urban romance books.
