Kim Oh 1: Real Dangerous Girl
All Kim wants is the job she’s worked hard for. But when her boss McIntyre throws her out on her ear, she begins dreaming of revenge. She hires Cole, a psychotic hitman who’s also been dispensed with by the same boss. Left crippled by McIntyre’s security guards, Cole tells Kim that the only way they’ll be able to pull off this hit is if she’s there with a gun in her hand as well. Before she knows what’s happening, Kim is training to be a professional assassin, with everything – including her own life – at stake. Because she’s only going to get one chance to pull it off...
Kim Oh 2: Real Dangerous Job
Training to be a killer was only the first half of the job. Now Kim has to put her life on the line – not just to get revenge on her crooked ex-boss, but to keep from being killed herself before she can take her first shot. She’s got nobody to help her except Cole, the crippled hitman who’s shown her how to use a gun. And they’re up against not only a crew of murderous security guards – but Kim’s own fears and doubts as well. If she’s going to survive, she’ll have to do things she’s never done before – and become something beyond her wildest nightmares.
Kim Oh 3: Real Dangerous People
She's killed before -- but those were easy targets compared to the ones Kim faces now. Recruited to join a crime boss's team of bodyguards, Kim soon realizes that she's surrounded by heavily armed men who are supposed to be on her side -- but who don't like working with a woman. She has to watch her back at the same time a multi-layered, double-crossing conspiracy threatens to wipe out the whole team. Or is it a triple-cross? By the time the final deadly gun battle breaks out, Kim will have to figure out if there's anybody on her side -- including the boss she's supposed to be working for...

Kevin Wayne Jeter (born 1950) is an American science fiction and horror author known for his literary writing style, dark themes, and paranoid, unsympathetic characters. He is also credited with the coining of the term "Steampunk." K. W. has written novels set in the Star Trek and Star Wars universe, and has written three (to date) sequels to Blade Runner.
There’s nothing all that new in Kim Oh. In a lot of ways, it’s a story that spaghetti westerns used all the time: Someone is done wrong, wants revenge, goes to an old gunslinger to learn the way of revenge and changes along the way. This collection of Kim Oh novellas puts it in a modern, corporate context, and would have been a lot better if the characters were more interesting and some of the plot threads paid off.
This is a collection of three novellas, and the first two form the “pilot” for the series as the main character changes from a nerdy, shy accountant to an assassin under the tutelage of a paralyzed member of the profession. The change in the character is done well and progresses interestingly, but there’s not much new here, plot-wise. Since the story is so well worn, one would expect the characters to be more interesting or the world they inhabit to be a grabber, but instead, neither are anything other than stock characters.
The writing, however, is brisk and does a solid job of setting the scenes, moving the plot along and ke3eping the reader’s interest. The actual prose is so good, I wondered often if something bigger was being set up, but in the end, it all was pretty by the numbers and was a decent little action story.
The third novella sets up future stories, with Kim Oh dealing with being an assassin in a world where the old mobsters are being cleared out for corporate criminals. Again, a plot which seemed to promise more complexity felt more li8ke the plot of a 90’s syndicated action TV series. It wasn’t BAD, and the prose was engaging, but there really was nothing here beyond the surface.
All in all, it was a nice like bit of entertainment, but there’s nothing here to interest me enough to read future installments of the series.
As much as I like reading books about nice girls turned assassin, this was just ok. The more technical aspects were interesting, but I don't have much interest in reading more of the books.
