This is the story of two people who survived traumatic childhoods and ended up on very different paths in life. But now, after different scenarios led to them both serving hard time and being released, those paths will cross in a way that will alter their lives forever.
Born to a neglectful mother and bounced around the foster system all his life, Sugar Sweet got wrapped up in a life of drugs and violence that led to him squandering his younger years behind bars. His one constant throughout his childhood was his foster mother who had shown him and many other children the love that every kid needs to thrive.
After changing his life for the better and taking in his young, orphaned niece, Sugar created a home to share with her while also starting a very lucrative business in Whitefish, Montana, far away from his Texas roots and the Time Served MC that had welcomed him into their family. When his foster mother calls on him to help one of her other children, he can’t say no, even if the woman who needs him happens to be a girl he couldn’t stand during their time together at Althea’s house.
Juni Dawson bounced back and forth from her mother’s house, where she was left to fend for herself, to her foster home with Althea, where she experienced a timeless, unconditional love that would never fade. Choosing a different route than what fate seemed to have put before her, the Army put her on track to a better life.
When her sister’s choices lead to her tragic end, Juni takes in her niece rather than let her go through the system that had failed her throughout her childhood. Decisions she made while in the service will follow her home and threaten the life she has planned with the little girl. Rather than stand and fight like she’d been trained to do, Juni takes the advice of the only woman who has ever looked out for her and runs to Montana to hole up until the threats can be identified and taken care of, one way or another.
Close quarters might prove to be too much for two strong-willed individuals who are seemingly stuck in the past and unable to see the people they’ve each become. If they can open their eyes to the possibilities before them, they might just find the family they’ve been yearning for and the happily ever after they’ve never let themselves believe in.
Well that was a flop for me personally. I wasn't into these characters whatsoever. They were harsh and unlikeable. Mind you, both H and h came from foster care and were in and out of different homes. They're quite jaded and too prickly for my liking. Especially Juni. Couldn't develop a connection with her at all. Sugar was definitely the better of the pair in this book. I do want to take a look at this author's other MC books, so we'll see I guess
It's nice to see the ties to the Time Served books, yet feel different, am hoping the rest of the series is the same.
This one started out very contentious. Sugar and Juni pretty much hated each other and didn't have any issues letting the other know. It makes sense, they knew each other as kids, when they weren't around the best environment or the best people. Both have grown past that, but don't seem like they want to see that in each other.
Juni was definitely a fish out of water when she arrived at Sugar's, a city girl through and through. But as time went by she saw the appeal of the way that Sugar and Claire were living and acknowledge what Sugar built. Sugar did warm up to Juni, but it wasn't until the end that he was in the position to admire the skills that Juni acquired and realize she was more than capable of taking care of herself.
I loved that as they got to know each other more bloomed, at first it seemed like it was because they were in close proximity, but it didn't stay that way. And with the trouble no longer after Juni, she and Sugar can focus on building their family and having a happy life.
On a side note, Juni had some of the best put downs and let loose with them as a distraction at the perfect time. It was fun to see how the guys all reacted to the zingers.
I don't expect anything but awesome from Cee and was not disappointed. Once again full of wonderful characters that invite you in for the ride like you're right there with them.
ALMOST FOUR YEARS AGO SUGAR has served time and is briefly visiting Texas from Montana. Althea was celebrating her seventieth birthday in a few days, and one of the other foster children she’d helped raise had organised a party that was doubling as a reunion.
Over the last forty years, Althea and her husband had fostered thousands of children, some for just a few days and others for months or years. Usually, children such as Sugar bound around in the foster system. The only stroke of luck he’d ever experienced in his life was being placed at Althea’s house when he was about five. It wasn’t the first time the state had taken him away from his mother, but it was the first time he felt safe and secure. This was a vicious cycle, the next time he was taken away, they were sent to live with Althea. And again the next time. And all of the times after that. For the next twelve years, Althea was the only constant in his life and the only adult who had ever shown him unconditional love.
That was why, when he walked into her house and found one of her new fosters’ beating her because she refused to give him the code to the safe where she kept her cash, Sugar grabbed the closest weapon and ended his life. It wasn’t the first time he’d committed an ‘act of violence,’ and since he was already on probation for fighting at school and under investigation for beating his mother’s latest boyfriend into a coma, the second-degree murder charge didn’t exactly come as a surprise. It had broken his heart to see the tears on Althea’s face when she’d been forced to recount how she’d desperately tried to get him to stop stabbing the tool who had already beaten her so badly that she could barely stand, but hearing her say she loved Sugar anyway had made it worthwhile.
Sherry and Sugar have a quick tryst and her husband Brian, discovers it’s not his child. They had been in the process of trying to have another baby, so without mentioning it to Sherry, he spoke with his doctor and was tested to see if he was the problem. When she dropped Sweetie off with Althea, she’d said she wanted to spend some quality time getting their relationship back on track. Her husband killed her and then was in a standoff with the police for a few hours before he killed himself.
“Someone’s scaring Juni, and she can’t figure out who it is. The cops are involved, but they don’t have any more idea about who it might be than she does. She wants to get out of town and go some place where this person can’t find her. I thought hiding out in a snowdrift with you might be just the ticket.” “She must be scared if she’s running. From what I remember of Juni, she’s never been one to back away from a challenge.” “She’s a mom now, so she’s got to think of more than just herself.” “Could I be the baby’s father?” “No.” “Are you sure?” “I’m positive, Sugar,” Althea said sadly. “How do you know, Althea?” “I just know.” I considered that for a second before I asked, “Who else knows she’s coming up here?”
On her deathbed, Sherry asks her sister Juni to take Sweetie (Sugar’s daughter) to safety.
Juni got out when she hit her twelve years but stayed in El Paso because her boyfriend was stationed there. They broke up because he wasn’t ready for parenthood, especially if it involved raising someone else’s child.
Sugar went to prison at seventeen and was released seven years later as an adult who was oblivious about the most basic things such as taxes and credit scores.
“What sort of hell have I walked into? I thought I was gonna have to do that for half the f-g day just to get enough milk to make another cup of g*ddamn coffee!” “I promise it goes faster with practice, but you won’t have to do it unless there’s no other option. I swear.” “You swear, huh? Well, I swear that I’m gonna get you back someday, Sugar. It might not be tomorrow or even next week, but it’s gonna happen.” “It’s really uncomfortable for them to go too long without milking. If you don’t get it done on a regular schedule, they can actually develop an extremely painful condition, put that anger to good use while we’re mucking stalls.” “What is mucking?” I laughed softly before I admitted, “I haven’t had this much fun in years, June Bug.” “I hate your ugly face.” “It’s a good thing you’re cute when you’re angry. Your face is usually so ugly, you have to sneak up on a glass of water to get a drink.” “You’re so ugly that when you came out, the doctor skipped your a*s and slapped your mama instead!” “When you were a kid, you were so ugly that every time you played in the sandbox, the cats tried to cover you up!” Juni snorted and then cleared her throat to mask her laughter before she retorted, “You look like something I drew with my left hand.” I laughed and said, “If my dog was as ugly as you, I’d shave his a*s and make him walk backwards!” Juni burst out laughing and tried to shake it off but couldn’t. Juni bent over and put her hands on her knees as she laughed, and I realised I’d never seen her look so happy before. Even when we were children, she rarely smiled, and I wasn’t sure I’d ever heard her laugh. It changed her entire appearance, and I found myself wanting to make her laugh over and over just so I could see her smile light up like this again. “I’m still gonna get you back, Sugar,” Juni promised as she lifted the hem of my jacket to wipe her eyes. “I don’t know what I’m gonna do yet, but it’s going to be epic.” “I can’t wait to see you try.”
“I told you, June Bug, you’re gonna have to earn your keep.” “When do you people sleep?” “When the work gets done,” I retorted. “It’s not even eight in the morning, and I need a nap,” Juni groaned as she stomped up the stairs. “I thought the army was rough, but it’s got nothing on you people.” I smiled as I watched Juni disappear and then picked up my coffee and caught Claire watching me. “I like her, Dad. Can she stay?” “We’ll see.” What kind of psycho makes Pop-Tarts? And how does a teenager not even know what they are? Better yet, what kind of teenager knows how to make butter? Up until an hour ago, I thought butter came out of a tub. Now that I’d had the real thing, I knew I’d never be able to go back. It was that delicious.
“I warned you before you came to visit last time that we might get snow.” “Snow means a light dusting of ‘oh, look how pretty it is when the sun hits it in the morning.’ When I was there, I saw ‘at any moment, the polar bears are going to rise up and fight the abominable snowmen in a territorial gang war.’” “You’re such a drama queen.” “Listen here, any amount of snow that’s higher than my d#*k is long is excessive.” “If that’s how you measure things, then God forbid you ever build a house. Only ones that might be able to live in it are cockroaches and grasshoppers,” I teased.
Thinking he’s protecting her, she instead takes matters into her own hands and deals with the villains that have been terrorising her.
Texas, there’s a town called Tenillo. That’s where he rehabilitated after his release. A man they call Pop has a programme for ex-cons to help them find their way in the world . . .
Epilogue The insults between Juni and Ajax were priceless.
Did you really just have a drug-dealing pimp walk you down the aisle to me?” “Do you really have a line of ex-cons standing up with you by the altar?” “Seriously, June Bug?” “You know Althea hates to fly and somebody had to drive her up here.” “You make me crazy.” “You make me homicidal,” Juni retorted. “Are you going to marry me or kill me?” “Yes to the first, and I’d like to leave the answer to that second question open for future debate.” Juni looked at the man officiating and smiled before she announced in a regal voice, “You may proceed.” “It’s about damn time,” Preacher, one of my Time Served MC brothers who had come up from Texas to perform our ceremony, said with an exasperated look. He reached out and put his hand between us, forcing us apart several inches as he glared at us. “One thing I’ve learned about marriage is that you’ve gotta keep the fights clean and the nights dirty. Looks like you’ve got at least half of that going for you already.” “Will you get on with it?” Preacher glared at me before he snapped, “If you’d shut the f@#$ up, I sure would.”
This was an excellent read. I cannot wait to see what’s up ahead from Ms. Bowerman.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Sugar and Juni were a great couple. Both were great at the banter. I thought this was a cute low angst book with the bonus of a homesteader, cook and gardener.
Cee Bowerman has done it again . The first book of Time Served Nomads Sugar is a smash hit. It was a page turner wanting to see what happens between Sugar and Juni. Cee went in depth with the outlining Sugar character why he went to prison and what he achieved. Brilliant read
I sooo wish that it was possible to give more than 5 stars, because this book would definitely be a 10+! I absolutely love everything Time Served MC, and was beyond thrilled to see the new Nomads series! If you haven't already, I would highly recommend reading the original Time Served MC series prior to beginning this one, as it will give you a better understanding of the characters, connections, and the dynamics of the groups. It's not necessary to read them, but you definitely won't be disappointed. I absolutely loved this story, the hilarious banter, crazy antics, and everything else about this couple and their unique family. It's a definite must read book! I can't wait for the next release, as well as to see where the series will go from here! Thank you Mrs. Bowerman for sharing your amazing talents and wonderful stories! I would definitely recommend this book, series, and exceptional author.
A new group of Time Served men now take the stage. Sugar killed a man at 17, (the guy was robbing and beating his foster mother) and served his time. Heading away from Tenillo, he goes north and begins to build a life. Creating a resort with cabins for those who want a glamorous western experience, his business is successful. Raising his niece as his daughter, he has a good family life. An old friend from foster home days is directed his way by his foster mother and the world slips off its axis. The woman who shows up is nothing like his old frenemy, but is grown and gorgeous. She is also a badass and has been followed by some enemies. As Sugar and Juni discover each other again, friends come to help, and they are a big help. The solution to the problem is a good one, and this reader hopes to see all of Sugar's friends find love.
Sugar and Juni had very similar starts in life but ended up on two different paths. Now, she needs his help to protect her niece as well has herself. Sugar served his time and set out to never, ever go back. He enjoys his peace, on his little slice of paradise and doesn't exactly jump at the chance to spend time with Juni. She was a prickly person when they were young, he figures that hasn't changed as she has gotten older. They just rub each other the wrong way. But as they spend time together, learning about each other all over again, sparks fly in an entirely new way. It was absolutely beautiful watching them fall in like and then love with each other. CB is a masterful storyteller, every single one becomes my new favorite!
This may become my favorite book in 2024. It has characters that I just want to adopt. They are funny, deadly, devoted to each other and that is just the ex-cons. For deadly men, they are gentle, loving, loyal and a great bunch of men. I love the Time Served MC brothers. A woman buries her sister and hides away with her sister’s 3 yr old daughter because there are some very bad ex-military men after her because she believes in justice. I am so thankful to have gotten this book. It made my day to read this story. I know I am going to read it many times. The snarky commentary as H and h find their way to their HEA is perfection. Highly recommend this book. No cheating, no cliffhanger. I do hope Ajax finds his One.
I loved this story, Sugar and Juni both come from troubled backgrounds and were fostered by Althea. Now Juni, after 12 years in the army, has come back to look after her niece. Meanwhile Sugar, after being with the Time Served MC, is now a nomad and has become a successful businessman who looks after his niece. Juni needs help and Sugar gives her that help. As always it's well written and there's some great characters in there. Juni is abrasive but grows with the story and is much more well written that similar characters in other books and so is likeable. I can't wait for the next
There is something amazing when you find the kind of author who has your exact sense of humour. I absolutely wept with laughter all throughout this story. I started reading Cee's books through her series with Ciara the whole mc's series and clung on for dear life. This book like all the other ones I have read have been gripping from start to end with the humour, unity, spice and world view of family first, protect the innocent and fuck the rest. My kind of world and view point. Thank you for the laughter and thank you from the bottom of my heart for Sugar Bear, June Bug, Claire Bear and not forgetting that giggle Angel Sweetie so so pretty pretty.
I absolutely love everything about this series of stories. Each book brings a new dimension to the series. The characters are well defined and have their own story lines all fitting seamlessly into a continuous saga. This story is one of my favorites. It hit on all of the elements that are essential to a really great read. Humor, conflict, loyalty, resolution. I've read, and re-read all of them and I am greatful that you are such a wonderful storyteller. My largest concern is waiting for the next installment.
3.5 Stars. I enjoyed this one. It was a tad too instalove for me and at times I really struggled to figure out who was talking and I wonder if that is a common issue with this author. I'll give it another book in the series to decide.
Being more difficult than it should have been aside, I liked the family first and found family ideals but what I really I loved was that Juni solved her problem without any melodrama or fanfare. Just got the shit done and went home and made breakfast.
Oh my word!!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the beginning of this new series in the Time Served universe!!!!!!!! Sugar and Juni have a very unusual and non traditional 2nd chance. They met as children. As adults, they have an even more unique reunion. I loved EVERYTHING about this book. All of the characters are simply amazing, even the youngest of them. The mystery, intrigue, action, drama and super spicy good stuff is done so well!!!! I cannot say enough good things about this one and I am really hoping the next book isn’t too far behind!!!!
This is the first book in the Nomad series, and what an opening! I love Sugar and Juni. They knew each other from childhood and remember exactly what they hate about each other. I found this slow burn rather refreshing, and their story was absolutely hilarious. I love the kids and meeting new Nomads and seeing other characters we met in the Time Served MC. I can't wait to see what Ms. Cee has for us next! 💯 MUST READ
This is a new series that's a spin-off of Time Served! This first book is the bomb it'll have you laughing until you pee your pants! This book will show you that even though you may have been raised in an awful environment, you can overcome that and make a very good life for yourself. Juni and Sugar definitely have a great relationship and can see through each other's bs to the real person! Definitely recommend reading this book!
I have been excited for this book ever since Ms Bowerman put out she was writing a Nomad's Timed Severed series. This first book gets right down to the unique way her characters mesh with each other. This book sets the tone of what we expect from the main characters and how she introduces the secondary characters. Just from reading the first one I can tell we are in for another wild ride from Cee Bowerman . I loved this read!
What a great start to a new series. Juni and Sugar knew each other as children but now she needs his help. Sugar has a business now and rents cabins for vacations. Juni sees an opportunity to hide out in the country and brings her niece. But Juni is a city girl and now has to learn how to live country style. There are many funny times between Juni and Sugar but there is an attraction and it develops into something serious. We also meet Sugar’s friends, other nomads that I hope we get future books. Looking forward to the next book!
OMG! I FREAKIN LOVE JUNI AND SUGAR!! They are hilarious together. Someone is out to kill Juni and she takes her nice and heads to the mountains to stay with Sugar and his daughter until the killer can be found. She was in the ARMY 12 years and he was in prison for killing a man for attacking his foster mom. Two badass people who can come up with more hilarious insults . cee Bowerman keeps getting better. I recommend this book and this author.
OMG Cee is there no limit to your imagination! Sugar and Juni are my new favorites (hopefully those back in Rojo and Tenillo won't find out lol) Overcoming and actually surviving their childhoods and the choices they made to discovering that they are more than what the foster system and streets created. If you love an alpha protector biker and a bada$$ woman, you will LOVE Sugar!!!
This is the first book in a new series and this is Sugar and Juni's story. This is a well written story which has engaging and realistic characters, family, friendships, humour, witty banter, danger, suspense, intrigue, twists, challenges, action packed, emotions, and love, which all leads to an entertaining, and steamy addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
This is Sugar and Juni’s story. Their story started many years ago when they were placed in the same foster home. He went to prison and she went into the military. Those experiences changed both of them for the better. They each ended up becoming guardians for their nieces. Juni has a stalker who is trying very hard to kill her. Their story goes on from there until they get their HEA. Really good book by a fantastic author.
I chose this rating because this was a very interesting book. I enjoy pretty much all of the characters. This was a book of protection, compassion, kindness, acceptance, revenge, and falling in love. I enjoyed Sugar and Juni story. I think the author did a pretty good job of putting these characters to get together. With this story opposites did attract. Pretty good read! I recommend this book to all romance readers and MC lovers.
Absolutely loving this NEW Nomad series, can’t wait for more books now. I couldn’t put it down. Juni was Hot! Absolutely love a strong female lead not just mentally but physically too! Let’s not forget about Sugar! That man was burning up the pages. Intelligent & sexy! Who doesn’t love a man that gets Dirty no pun intended. You will not be disappointed.
This book was a perfect addition to Cee’s growing world. Sugar and Juni’s banter and bickering were hilarious and made them feel so real. I’m glad we got a peek at some familiar faces and I’m looking forward to reading about Ajax and his guardian angel in the future.
