It has been months since the Siege of Port Rush. The Warlord, under the command of Jacob Valent, has been travelling to ports across the sector to gather intelligence, capturing ships and cargo as they go. Manpower and funds are still in short supply, but the Captain is winning the support of the British Alliance, and his crew suspects he has a long term plan that will lead to bigger prizes.
After a period of intense training, Alice and a number of younger crew members fight the remaining forces left behind after the siege, while proving the new Ranger Division. Now she faces a decision: remain with the new outfit, or rejoin her father on the Warlord.
Haven Shore has become a beacon for peace while war looms in the near future. Politics and petty squabbles threaten to destabilise the new government while commanders fight for the manpower they need to complete repairs on the Triton and the rest of their small fleet.
Ayan, Jake, Minh-Chu, Alice and their friends will face the greatest of challenges as they are forced to make life and death decisions while the galaxy teeters on the verge of all-out war.

This is one of the best entries in the series. I laughed, I cried, and I felt at home with the characters that make up the Triton (and affiliated) crew. The story in Broadcast 8 flows well throughout, and lots of questions that came up from all the previous episodes are immediately answered. Of course lots of new questions arise, and I can only look forward to the next installment with eagerness. B7 was amazing, B8 is outstanding.
They just keep getting better and better just bought #9 can't wait to start reading it. Fantastic series. If you haven't read it yet its not to late. Hurry up your missing a great series.
Fabulous ... just like the rest. If you have read the earlier books, you don’t need my opinion. If for some random reason you read this - go back to the beginning. This author is a nugget of pure gold; I’m a fussy sci-fi reader and Lalonde produces the goods. Simple as that. A gripping read that will keep you entertained from start to end. To give those comments some depth, I started reading these books years ago ... and find myself checking up years later to see if Lalonde has written more. I was truly pleased he had.
Book 8 in the series and I can truthfully say that each book is as good as the last. That is highly unusual. Even trilogy have the one book that is more extraordiary/ or less extraordinary than the other two. When you get into the series over 5 books it's what you know is bound to happen. Not so with this series. The characters are captivating, charismatic, and burst off the pages. The battles are fast paced and heart pounding. I can't wait to get onto the next book, I just dont want to ever get to the last book.
Still love the characters, plot and sci-fi-fantasy. I look forward to starting the next in the series. As much as I love this series, an editor would be good to clean up some of the confusing and disjointed parts. It doesn’t affect my enjoyment. But I can be somewhat anal when it comes to details and when things don’t track quite right or are confusing I have to pause and reread to be sure I understand what just happened.
Randolph Lalonde is in this reader's humble opinion, one of the greatest writers in Science Fiction today. The Spinward Fringe series (all nine of them I think) that I have read thus far have been fantastic. This book was somewhat of a transitional one for the series and so it was lacking in some of the action that the others have had. The last several books were nothing but huge actions scenes and they were awesome. This book was still good, leaves the reader with a bit of a cliffhanger at the end, and is sort of like a reset for the plot, the character's lives, and the general direction that things are moving in the story.
Not bad. Worth the read and the money and I will definitely keep reading this series. If you like Space Opera or Military Science Fiction check this series out.
A day that begins with finding a new Spinward Fringe book for sale, is a great day indeed. I'm 8 books into this series and I can't get enough. I love the character development and the ideas behind the science fiction. Framework tech is a great thing, until it isn't. If you've been keeping up with this series, this is a.must read. If you've stumbled across this review by chance, then you need to find book 1 and read till your eyes bleed. You won't regret the purchase.
A great installment in a very entertaining series. This installment harkens back to some of its previous roots. It has done a good job of untangling some of the political intrigue going on and allowing our favorite characters to go back to their roots and setup the series for some great action in books to follow (not that there wasn't any action in this one). Again, the language is clean, the sex is nonexistent which is a great relief in such a fun read.
I must have missed something in this book for others to give it such high praise. Yes the book ended with plenty of action, but up until the last few chapters, nothing happened. It was like the author had to rebuild the story. Now enter the mysterious new bad guys. I really enjoyed the first few books and keep coming back to the series in hope that the author will have found that early talent. I continue to hope.
Maybe I read too many books. Or maybe my memory is not as good as I thought. But when I started Episode 9, Warpath, I was not remembering enough details from Episode 8. So I have gone back to re-read Episode 8 before I move on to Episode 9. It's all such a good story that I am enjoying this second pass through.
After a tumultuous Broadcast 7, this entry in the series is in many ways a return to the past. The form of the story is much closer to the earlier books and the driving force in this is the wonderful relationships between the characters and it's terrific mix of very well written action sequences. All I can say is..Their Back!
Spoilers: the story is a great follow up to the previous book and it takes some of our characters full circle with their relationships. Especially the rebuilt Ayan and Jacob/Jonas. It also sets the series for a greater buildup and confrontation in the future.
Yet another great read, this series of books continues to get better. Jacob, Alice and the rest of the crew take on more battles, but one which will cause a lot of pain for Alice. But from pain can come happiness.
This was the 8th book in the Spinward Fringe Broadcast series. Either I'm getting a little weary of the story line or the author is because this one seemed a bit forced. The stops getting a bit unwieldy and I hope the next book ties it all together.
