Because sometimes love doesn't follow the playbook…
When sunshiney Jenny wished for more adventure in her life, she never thought she’d be sent a grumpy hockey player.
But could Dylan’s gruff exterior be nothing more than an act? Did this hockey hunk secretly enjoy their spirited debates that upset their friends at Thanksgiving? (Oops.)
Of course, men like him don’t go for curvy, small town women… Or do they?
Dylan can’t help but be captivated by Jenny's feisty, direct charm. The catch? Despite being benched for an injury that might end his career, he’s deep in trade talks that could send him across the continent.
But since meeting Jenny, the idea of a life off the ice isn’t nearly as unsettling. Then again, maybe his foot will heal, he’ll get the girl, stay with his team, and have it all. Either way, he needs to convince Jenny that all this big-shot wants this holiday season is her.
Get ready for a heartwarming Christmas romance where he falls first in this sunshine and grump sports novel.

I had a lot of fun writing Jenny and Dylan. They are two opposites who like each other but their friends think the two are foes. They get up to many Christmas shenanigans together and slowly realize their adventures are leading to something serious. Well, Dylan hoped all along because he fell first in this hockey romance!

This was a delightful book to read. Jenny Oliver is a spunky and spirited young woman. She lives with her grandfather and runs her own clothing store. Dylan O’Neill is a player on the San Antonio Dragons, a NHL hockey team. He’s currently injured, and giving his plans for the future some serious thought. They don’t hit it off when they first meet, or at least people don’t think they do.
I think this was my favorite of the books in this series that I’ve read. The characters, all of them, were lovable; although, I think Gramps was my absolute favorite. I’d love to see more of him in his own book. If I had one small complaint about the story, it was that Dylan seemed to lose focus on Jenny towards the end, concentrating more on the idea of getting married and having children than on the romance between them continuing and growing. That, however, was, as I said, a very small thing, and it’s not like Jenny was against the idea. Before that, Dylan was everything a woman could want: supportive, kind, protective, involving, sweet, and romantic.
This is a well-written and easy to read book. It’s filled with fun and humor. It made me smile and laugh. Dylan and Jenny are both interesting and strong-willed characters, and their clashes are a hoot. I especially loved the cookie contest. I’d love to know Dylan’s secret recipe. There's a touch of O'Henry's Gift of the Magi towards the end, and it perfectly suits the two main characters.
A sweet grumpy guy and a sunshine girl romance. I really enjoyed it and recommend it.
I received a copy of this book from the author. I thank her for her generosity, but it had no effect on this review. All opinions in this review reflect my true and honest reactions to reading this book.
Well, now the bonus chapter at the end of the previous book makes so much more sense. But holy moly! Did these two ever make me work for the rest of their story. We watched the sparks flying between Jenny and Dylan in the first book, yet we’d only been given tantalizing hints about what they were up to, until now. I can’t quite make up my mind which they did more: made me love them or drove me crazy. I adored Dylan and how ready he was to do anything it took to make their relationship work. Jenny had some bad past experiences that left her hesitant to trust Dylan, and even knowing that, her reluctance left me so frustrated. I loved the way the ending of this book ties back to the end of the previous one. And I’m desperately hoping the author has a lot more hockey sweethearts up her sleeve for us.
Jenny was a fun loving, sweet person who loves her small town. Dylan was a hockey player who had an injury and couldn’t play hockey for a few months. The two met at Thanksgiving that one of his team mates hosted in her small town. It was funny how the two got into at the table, but both enjoyed going at each other. The funny thing was that most people thought they didn’t like each other! It was sweet how the two started seeing each other, but didn’t tell everyone. Dylan was known for his grouchy attitude to the press, but he had a good reason for acting that way. Jenny had some friends that were with other hockey players and the press drove them crazy. I could understand that Jenny didn’t want any of the press following her. Dylan got to see what it was like in a small town and how much Jenny gave to the town. It seemed like there would never be a way for the two to be together since there were talks of trading Dylan across country. This is a sweet story that I strongly encourage you to read. I was given a copy of the book and voluntarily wrote a review.
This is a sweet romance between an experienced NFL hockey player and the small home town girl who never wants to leave her town. He plays for an expansion team. She lives in a town out in the country where many of the team players have settled. Although the relationship is new, both are finding an unusual kinship and start falling in love immediately. They live over an hour apart and he may get traded back to his former team.Neither wants to commit because she has no intention to leave her town, where she has deep roots and her grandfather to worry about.
Very clean. Can be read by anyone. Characters from previous books in the series are also in this book, but even if you haven't read those books, you can and will enjoy this one.
Sugar Cookie Country House is book 6 in the Hockey Sweethearts series by Jean Oram. Up next is Dylan and Jenny’s story. 4.5 stars
What happens when grumpy meets sunshine…he’s been injured and is hoping it’s not career ending, getting traded and meets the girl who shows him there’s more to life than hockey. She wished for adventure in her life…and it brings her a hot, grumpy hockey player that show her life is an adventure. Can these two make all there wishes come true during the Christmas season…only time will tell…
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy (ARC) of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Sugar Cookie Country House is a delightful, clean, Christmas romance. I have loved every one of the books in this series! This one was especially fun. Dylan pretends to be a grump and Jenny can’t believe he really cares for her just as she is. They trade a lot of witty banter. I just sat and read the entire book because I did not want to put it down! There is some angst as Dylan heals from his injury, faces being traded and might have to retire. Ms. Oram manages to bring everything to a very satisfying conclusion!
This is my voluntary review of a copy I received from the author.
I loved these characters. Their dialogue was so snippy that it was hard to tell if they were flirting or fighting. (It's a romance. It's not hard for the reader to guess which it is.)
The couple has several obstacles to overcome, some bringing a bit of physical danger, but most is their own inner conflict.
Another fabulous book by the talented Jean Oram. Dylan and Jenny are opposites who click. Jenny is a small-town girl and Dylan is a professional hockey player. When they meet at Maverick's Thanksgiving dinner, sparks fly. Dylan is immediately drawn to Jenny because she isn't a swooning fan girl and pulls no punches where his fame is concerned. Their feelings don't take long to deepen and turn to love. Read this wonderful book to see how they navigate the road to love.
Sugar Cookie Country House written by Jean Oram. Dylan and Jenny meet by chance and try to date. She owns a shop and he is a career hockey player. Busy lives can cause problems for new romance and they certainly get their share of issues. It’s a sweet story that leaves you feeling all warm and fuzzy! This group of friends are all really great to read about!
I'm totally enjoying this series and getting to know all the hockey players and the women of Sweetheart Creek. I loved Dylan and Jenny's story. These two took a little while to figure out what they really wanted and how to get it. It all makes a captivating read that I read straight through.
Dylan and Jenny are opposites who everyone believe hate each other, when in fact they are spending lots of time together and falling in love. Their story is sweet and you can't help falling for Dylan who comes across as gruff but is really very tender.
Another sweet tale about a store keeper and a hockey player. They don't seem to like each other much, until they do. Will there very different lives let them stay together or will this just be a fling in spite of their strong feelings.
If you're looking for an entertaining, fun read with lots of emotion, look no further than Jean Oram. This is another great story in the Hockey Sweethearts series!
When Jenny and Dylan first met, they "argued" - well it appeared they couldn't stand each other but really sparks were flying and all in a good way. Love that they got their own book. She feels like they are worlds apart, but he is smitten at first meet. Great banter and conversation between these two. She is one sweetheart, and he is one grouch or is he really? Of course, there are a few bumps in the rode, but the author did an amazing job of smoothing them out. Love her grandfather and all their friends. Great sneaky ending. This is one of my favorite series.
