Libby and Will spent a glorious honeymoon in this magical city. They didn’t have much money, but they had a whole lot of love and a bright future ahead of them.
And Venice was where it all went wrong…
Two kids and twenty-five years later, they are struggling with money problems but somehow Will manages to fulfil his promise to Libby to take her back to Venice for their anniversary. This time, they are doing it in style and a masked ball awaits. But among the beautiful buildings and romantic canals, Libby learns that her husband has a secret that breaks her heart.
The trust is broken and the marriage is over. But there are decades of love and two grown sons between them.
Can they ever find their way back to each other or have they missed their chance forever?
A funny and heartwarming second-chance romance, perfect for fans of Milly Johnson and Julie Caplin.
With my own fond memories of visiting Venice about a decade ago (how has that time passed?!), I was really looking forward to Jensen’s story. Hoping for a bit of escapism fiction, this book failed to hit the mark on so many fronts.
Firstly, I could not understand how Will and Libby actually managed to have a successful marriage. They both display unlikeable qualities that meant I quickly lost interest in their (struggling) relationship. The constant sniping and griping at one another was quite depressing and it was pretty clear that this couple was headed for the rocks, even before Will’s massive mistake.
The trip to Venice doesn’t actually feature as much as I was expecting. When the protagonists do visit, they are constantly checking the price of things and it never felt like they were truly enjoying their experience. Whilst I understand the reason behind this concern, I think it just fuelled the petty arguments between the two, presenting them more like immature children.
Although I disliked their relationship, I became furious with how Will treats Libby. I applauded her strength when they return from their anniversary trip but disliked how easily influenced she was by her sister. On the other hand, I really liked seeing the positive family relationship that Libby has with her grown sons and I thought it a shame that they did not feature more.
As the story progressed, I thought the plot became more predictable. It also was convenient at times, such as when Libby suddenly starts turning her hand to jewellery making, selling her creations as a little side hustle. It is almost implied that she can live off this fledging business but it just wasn’t presented in a realistic way. It merely added to my irritation with this story.
Overall, I found the bickering between man and wife created a more tense read. I don’t think Venice featured as much as I was hoping and the eventual happy ending felt too little, too late.
With thanks to Hera books and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
What is your breaking point in a relationship? Lies, cheating, theft or is it something smaller that builds over time? After 25 years of marriage, Will crosses the line that Libby can't forgive which is to lie and on a grander scale to steal from her. He put his family legacy above hers and caused a chasm in their marriage. The question is whether or not that chasm can be fused back together or whether he has broken it for good. This second chances romance is wrought with angst and second thoughts, but can those second thoughts lead to a second chance or not? The author has developed incredibly realistic characters and the plot is not only realistic, but wholly believable. This was my first book from this author, but you can bet it will not be my last as she has made a fan out of me! You'll have to read to find out if there is a happily ever after or not!
Rating: 5 Stars!! Review: Thank you to Rachel's Random Resources for hosting this book's tour last month and for the FREE EBook to promote and review for Helga.
This was my first time reading a Romance by Helga let alone in the New Adult Genre but i have to say i really enjoyed this one. I thought Libby and Will's story and romance was a unique one even tho it was when they were in their 20s and 4os.
The Characters were fun and enjoyable to read about. Libby was my favorite and i really felt for her when she learned about Will's secret.
The Setting was beautifully described which made me feel like i was actually in Venice, Italy while reading especially when the scenery was described.
Overall a Beautifully written Romance. Can't wait to read more by Helga in the future!!
I’m rather partial to being whisked away to somewhere lovely. As I am married to someone who on a scale of 1-10 ranks about a 2 for imagination and spontaneity, Helga Jensen’s books provide a nice bit of sunshine and fun in foreign lands.
Helga Jensen paints a beautiful picture of Venice and dare I say, she does Wales justice too.
I thought Libby and Will were very well written characters. I empathised with a lot of their struggles. And gaped in shock at Will’s stupidity!
#MyHeartIsInVenice is a fabulous read. It’s funny, sweet, emotional and relatable. A damn good read, that I’d thoroughly recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
With thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources for a digital arc of this title.
I really felt for Libby and Will – their Tenby antique shop, a business inherited from his father, has been struggling for some time while he continues to add more unsellable stock to the dusty shelves. Their regular customers have faded away, and there’s no chance of attracting passing tourists in wet and windy January. Taking the business online – something Will’s always resisted – brings a little more success, and they decide they really can’t allow their money worries to cast a shadow over their second honeymoon in Venice, twenty-five years after their blissful first. But they surely can’t afford to attend the masked ball Libby’s always dreamed of, can they? The online shop must be doing better than she thought – if not, where can the money be coming from? Will’s betrayal is something that can’t be forgiven… but then again…
There was so much I enjoyed about this book. The whole Venice experience is quite beautifully described, and had me browsing the holiday websites with thoughts of returning. Off-season Tenby might be less enticing, but very familiar – and the couple’s efforts to remain upbeat about the future against what look like insurmountable odds made me really feel their struggle. It’s also an excellent portrayal of the way in which the excitement of young love has matured into a more comfortable friendship with the odd niggle here and there, as they’ve seen their family grow up and move on and are now facing the realities of an empty nest. Will’s actions did seem out of character, but desperation clearly played a part – and his lack of understanding over Libby’s reaction made me like him rather less, with the celebratory dinner party a particularly painful experience.
There might have been times though when I would have rather liked to see things from Will’s perspective – seeing everything from Libby’s viewpoint and through her clear and consistent voice perhaps did him rather a disservice at times. And she perhaps moved on rather more quickly than I felt would have been likely – a couple of excruciating (and very funny) blind dates driven by a misunderstanding over Will’s current situation, a sky-dive that she’d always yearned to complete – but she did have particularly strong encouragement and support from friends and family old and new (a supporting cast equally well-drawn). And despite the lead-up, the ending did come as something of a surprise – although it was also rather what I’d hoped for and expected, and I did find it emotionally well-judged and wholly satisfying.
An enjoyable read, a nice balance between the more light-hearted moments and the emotional turmoil, some well-written escape from the day-to-day through the armchair travel – an author I’d be happy to read again, and a book I’d be very happy to recommend to others, particularly older readers, who enjoy second chance romance between characters who’ve lived a little.
Helga Jensen’s My Heart is in Venice is a witty, heartwarming and emotional page-turner perfect for Veronica Henry fans.
Twenty-five years ago, newlyweds Libby and Will had gone to Venice on their honeymoon and had the time of their lives. They might not have had much money, but they had hearts full of love, an optimistic outlook and a determination to be by each other’s side for the rest of their lives. Will had promised Libby that he’d bring her back to the beautiful Italian city in twenty-five years – and two sons and almost three decades later, they find themselves in Venice again. Only a lot has changed since the last time they were here…
Despite their money problems, Will has somehow managed to get them to Venice – and there will be no scrimping and saving this time around because he is determined to treat his wife. A masked ball awaits the two of them and amidst all the majestic buildings and romantic canals, Will hopes that that old spark might rekindle in the place where they had started their lives together as a married couple.
But when Libby discovers Will’s devastating secret, she wonders whether she can trust the man she spent most of her life with ever again. Is their marriage over? Or will Venice work its magic on them yet again?
Helga Jensen’s My Heart is in Venice is a charming, dramatic and uplifting tale about second chances, trust and falling in love again that will bring many a tear to the eye and make the reader laugh out loud on multiple occasions. Beautifully vivid and atmospheric and sprinkled with humour, magic and pathos, Helga Jensen’s My Heart is in Venice is an enchanting romantic tale readers are sure to enjoy.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is a romance and coming of age, but not your typical story. The main character Libby is a middle-aged woman who has identified as being a wife and mother her whole life. She’s been married to Will, and then the mother of two children, and now facing empty nest as her second born child is moving away from home. Her husband has an antique business that’s struggling along and they don’t really have money for a trip but he made her a promise on their honeymoon (yep-in Venice) that’ they would return on their 25th anniversary. But while in the city of lovers Libby discovers Will has kept secrets from her and broken her trust. The story, told from Libby‘s point of view, discusses the problems in relationships, the problems women struggle with when they go from being a wife and mother to discovering themselves as individuals. It’s about trust and change. And about decisions-after decades of love, and lies how do they find their way back to each other? This book was easy to read. More of an emotional study on the challenges and aging woman faces, and a story of relationships than anything else. I loved this setting… All the famous Venetian landmarks were described in detail.- the basilica, Saint Marks Square, the bridge of sighs, Murano and burano, the gondolas and water taxis, the glass shops. It was written so descriptively I almost felt like I was back in Venice. The characters were a little bit hard for me to relate to. They just didn’t make me love them. But overall it was a good read.. ⭐️⭐️⭐️. Thank you NetGalley for the advance digital copy in return for my honest opinion.
::| "It's keeping me up at night. I'm so worried. I know it doesn't seem to matter to you because you're selling up, but please understand that the garden is very important to me. I don't want anymore damage than necessary." If I hadn't have rolled my eyes over the past few weeks, I would have given her a gigantic, mother of all eye rolls instead I smile and agree that she can put a trap down. After all she won't catch any. So, once again as Dylan says, "whatever" I mutter to myself. Gerald tried to be a little more polite and shows me the tape measure he has brought along to measure the kitchen. "I do hope you don't mind. It's just that when Elaine has a idea in her head, we have to roll with it. She's fallen in love with her dream kitchen and, you know what they say, 'happy wife, happy life.' Anything to keep her quiet," he says laughing. |::
Venice is where is began and Venice is where is shall end.
I have to admit, this floaty, uplifting romance is a beautiful addition to Helga's works. She manages to bring certain aspects of the stories and especially the characters alive by injecting them with world-wise clarity. I felt it every time Libby sobbed and saw how Will was failing too. I breathed and loved through this couple. Championing them and watching heartbroken as things looked to be lost. But is anything ever lost in Venice? Cursed.. maybe but lost.. never. They have enough Highway men around to help.
My Heart is in Venice by Helga Jensen Libby and Will Jones live in Tenby, where they run an antiques shop which is struggling to bring enough money in. They have a Cavapoo called Monty (I’d love a Cavapoo!) and two grown up sons – Dylan and Ewan – one is already at university, the other about to leave home for uni. When they got married, Libby and Will had their honeymoon in Venice and Will promised to take her back there for their 25th anniversary, which is coming up. But things don’t go according to plan… I love Helga’s writing and really enjoyed her two books I have read previously. There is a real warmth about the storytelling, a believability of characters, and authentic-feeling, interesting settings. I also like the fact that the main characters are in their 50s like me. Due to family health issues, I didn’t get to read this book when it came out, but when I did get chance to, it was very easy to get into. It’s a lovely easy read, with perfectly-sized chapters that urge you one to read “just one more”. I could really relate to Libby and hoped she would end up happy, as she goes through a lot in this story. I enjoyed the trips to Venice, but I also enjoyed reading a novel set in Wales, as there don’t seem to be many of those and it’s a gorgeous place. The story is a fun read with lots of twists and turns and I would definitely recommend it.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Hera Publishing for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I found this book to be well paced and well written, and I loved that it was first-person POV from Libby, the FMC. It was critical that this not be a 3-rd person POV, as she was the cornerstone of the entire story. I could relate to her, even being in a different stage of life and country as she is, the author's voice spoke clearly and compassionately. I loved how Venice was described. Having been there, it was perfectly described accurately - a mixture of a romantic and equally haunting city.
There were, however, a few issues I couldn't seem to get past. Libby and Will were portrayed as being much older than they were intended to be in the book (only 50 years old in the book, but acted as if they were in their late 60s/early 70s). I couldn't wrap my head around Will's betrayal - being married 25 years and going through life together, it seemed like jumping the shark in a sense. Through the first part (the majority, actually) of the book, Will is not described as a MMC that I was rooting for. He seemed emotionally closed off, moody and deceptive, and incredibly selfish. It was hard to be invested in their love story when I thought he didn't deserve a redemption.
DNF (35%) I visisted Venice for the first time a few months ago and fell in love so when I saw this title, I couldn't help but request an ARC. Unfortunately, I didn't fell in love with book in any way. While I appreciate MCs who are around 50 years old, I didn't like them at all. They seemed to be much older than their actual age. When Libby was young she wanted to do marketing but at that time, there was no place for women in the office, apart from management support. That time being the 1990s. Right. Money plays an important part in this story, in a way (and in amounts) that don't always make sense. Libby is said to have dyscalculia but this mainly seems to have been introduced as an excuse for her not being fully aware of their financial situation. The main issue with this book is the writing: it's all tell and no show. This makes it very exhausting and frustrating to be in Libby's head, and stops me from believing the characters and their experiences. It is also why the author fails to capture Venice. The city where I left my heart deserves a better book.
*** I received a copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review ***
From lovebirds 💕to nemesis Libby and will go for their honeymoon to Venice and will promises to come back for their 25th anniversary. Forward to 25 years later will and Libby have two adult sons and struggle to uphold the family business Will has inherited from his father. The antique store struggles to make sale until Libby suggests to go online. Will upholds his promise and surprises Libby with a trip to Venice during valentine and Venetian carnaval to celebrate their 25th anniversary. Venice is a dream.. gondola rides, a masked ball and delicious Italian food🍕 They are so in love until something happens in Venice 🇮🇹 and Libby despises her husband and can’t forgive him. To be honest I struggled in the beginning but from the moment Libby and will arrive in Venice I couldn’t put the book down. First of all I love books that take you to different places. It’s as if I’m in Venice myself. But the story kept getting better and I wanted to know if Libby would be able to forgive will. I know for sure that I wouldn’t be able to forgive someone who betrays me like that.
This was heartwarming to read. It is a book about love, trust, lies and honesty.
It examines the dynamics of a long marriage and how often we take both things and each other for granted and how everything can seemingly vanish in the twinkling of an eye.
It was sweet and sad going through Libby and Will’s relationship. I felt like an agony aunt wanting both to bash their heads in and calling them up for a session.
I think the single point of view makes it unique and you can almost hear the FMC’s voice in your head as you read and she talks.
I enjoyed going through the motions and how the author took us through all of the important details.
All of the side characters were on point, delivering what was expected of them.
If you love older protagonists, marriage in crisis plus women’s fiction then you will love this.
I received an advanced copy but I chose to read this via Kindle Unlimited.
Get ready for a captivating read! My Heart is in Venice is my first novel by the talented author, Helga Jensen, and it is sure to leave you feeling fulfilled.
The story follows the lives of Libby and Will, a couple who are celebrating their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary in Venice. However, their celebration takes a turn for the worse when Libby discovers a secret that Will has been keeping from her. Devastated by the revelation, Libby decides to file for divorce and end their marriage.
As someone who has been married for twenty-four years, I found myself drawn to Libby's character and her story. The vivid descriptions of Venice and Tenby that Helga weaves throughout the novel left me yearning to visit both places.
Whether you're lounging on the beach or snuggled up by the fire, My Heart is in Venice is the perfect summer read. Don't wait any longer, get your copy today!
This was almost a DNF but I made goal this summer to finish partially read books from this year. However it ended up being just as disappointing as I originally thought when I stopped 40 pages in. The main characters are one dimensional and unlikeable. The story read as a slightly unorganized ramble, very much telling the story but not showing it or making you feel it at all. Equally disappointing is that only 25% of the book takes place in Venice, and with so few details you might as well have just looked at a postcard. The rest takes place in Wales which might have been amazing, however other than including cwtch, shwmae and cawl it also lacked any Welsh charm (as somebody married to a Welshman who has lived in Wales and loved it). I have the Scandinavian Summer book on my shelf but now worry that will be equally disappointing.
This is a good read. I didn't really warm to the two main characters though and think I would have enjoyed this much more had I really liked them. At times, I felt like I wanted to bang their heads together shouting talk to each other! The writing is good, sometimes it did feel a little too descriptive for my liking and I was skimming pages in parts of the book. There are some lovely family moments, relatable issues in the story that I can resonate with and by the end I had warmed a bit more to Libby and Will. This book is about second chances, honesty, trust and family. The parts set in Venice were enjoyable and I liked the ending. If you are looking got a bit of escapism, a book with older, more mature characters then I think you'll enjoy this.
A second honeymoon back in Venice once more Should be exciting, a visit to adore. But money problems, secrets and lies all concealed And trust is broken, when all is revealed.
A story of a marriage falling apart Leaving two with a broken heart. Where communication is needed desperately So all again can happily be.
With family dramas and other romances, too, Actions have consequences for them all to go through. With decades together, now torn apart, Will they be anyway to heal their broken hearts?
An emotive read, though there's laughter, too, A moving second chance romance I recommend to you. For my complementary copy, I say thank you, As I share with you this, my honest review.
Wow! This book was such a surprise to me and to be honest I can't stop thinking about it since I read it,
Will and Libby were newlyweds 25 years ago and had gone to Venice on their honeymoon and even though they didn't have a lot of money they had the time of their lives and Will had promised her that he would bring her back in 25 years. Now their family is grown and they return to their honeymoon destination and set out to recreate the magic of their honeymoon, only for Libby to discover a secret that Will had and she now isn't sure if their marriage can be saved.
This is such an amazing story and very well worth the read, I also enjoyed that the characters were a little older and a bit more mature!
I would firstly just like to say a big thank you to Rachel’s Random Resources who very kindly forwarded me an arc copy of this book, for my kindle, in return for my honest review.
My Heart Is In Venice is a gorgeous, uplifting, escapist, later in life romance and is an utterly beautiful read.
This book is set in the wonderful, picturesque Venice and I loved being immersed in all its magic.
This was the first book that i had read from this author and I’m so glad that i gave it a chance because I really enjoyed it.
Will and Libby have been married for 25 years but then Will does something that his wife cannot forgive him for…..
Based on the second chance romance trope it was a wonderful, feel-good read, with a touch of humour, romance and that all important self discovery too…….
Always happy to be transported to sunnier climates, but especially with the weather we’ve been having lately in the UK! Helga Jensen transport us to both Venice and Wales, painting a beautiful scene for both places whilst also putting her characters through an emotional wringer!
A realistic plot that challenges the readers morals and values, highlights the difficulties small businesses face especially in a wet and windy January, and the challenges of sustaining young love twenty five years on. Add in the characters you’ll love, and the ones you won’t, and it’s a brilliant, escapist novel with a lovely underlying theme of second chances and what if’s.
Another book of Helgas devoured. I love her books so much, one of her books was the first book I read that got me back into reading so it was only right to reach my good reads target on a book by Helga.
Will and Libby have been married for 25 years and go back to Venice for their wedding anniversary but there is a lie Will is telling which unravels the rest of the book.
This was such a heartwarming read. I loved the descriptions of Venice and felt I was there. It was a well paced book with sublime writing. It highlights relationships, family loyalties and deceit. Halfway in and I actually couldn’t guess how it would end. The characters were fun and you felt for Libby.
Overall a beautifully written romance. Funny, emotional and relatable.
My first point is going to be that there wasn’t enough content in Venice. I thought, based on the name of the novel that the whole thing would be based in Venice. It’s kind of why I brought the book in the first place.
In light of that, I did enjoy this book. It was an easy ready and I managed to get through it quite quickly. I liked reading from a different perspective for a change and I did see a lot of traits in Will that I’ve seen in the men I know which was interesting.
I don’t have a lot to say about this book other than it was good.
I give it a 3 out of 5 stars as it’s not one of my favourites. And I’m a little bit disappointed there’s not more Venice scenes.

Will and Libby were newlyweds 25 years ago and had gone to Venice on their honeymoon and even though they didn't have lof of money they had their time of their lives and Will promised her that he would bring her back in 25 years. This was the first book I had read from Helga Jensen, and I can't wait to read more. There is a real warmth about the storyline a belivability of characters, and authentic feeling interesting settings. Such well written book!
Unfortunately "My Heart is in Venice" was no better than the previous book I read by Helga Jensen. I wish that I'd re-read my review before selecting this one but chose it just because I recognised the author's name. The writing has a rather naive style and the situations are rather simplistic. Once again the main character is about 50 years old, so should have life experience and a bit more common-sense than she demonstrates.
Thanks to Net Galley and the publishers for the opportunity to review this book.
If you have never traveled to Venice, you will want to immediate book a trip after reading Jensen’s beautiful descriptions of the city. Libby and Will return to their honeymoon city for their silver anniversary. However trouble abounds when Libby discovers a very weaselly underhanded stunt pulled by Will. I thought Libby went off the deep end a bit too quickly and pulled the extreme trigger way too fast. Be careful what set into motion Because it can bite you. I did like how Libby didn’t spend much time moping but got on with making her own plans. The outcome was predictable but I like the comfort in that. Lesson to learn: don’t throw away a good thing. Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources, Hera, and NetGalley for the early copy.
While the Venice setting is beautiful and makes me want to book a ticket immediately, the rest of the story just didn't resonate with me. The main characters were not likeable, I felt like Libby was way too naive for a woman her age, and Will's secret feels like it broke them.
I thank the author for sharing her work with me, but I'm sad to say that this isn't the book for me. Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.
I felt if I was Libby I would have marched him back to the shop and get the watch back! I loved this book being to Venice myself and it made me feel like I was back there especially loved it when Helga included the places and the history and the joys of walking down a path leading to a deadend it happened a lot I did sort of guess the ending near when will said he couldn't look after Monty but I loved the book I felt like this give you a true heartache of a relationship breaking up and how messy it can be

i got this book from linate airport as a "blind date with a book" and the clues were "romantic, funny, dreamy". the book was, in fact, neither romantic nor funny nor dreamy. plot was uninteresting, the trip to venice was not exactly a trip but the couple just gawking at the price tags, they did not have any chemistry whatsoever, libby does not have a spine, will is a piece of shit and the characters overall were so annoying and basic that this made me so desperately want to pick up another book, saving me from my reading slump. two stars for that
My Heart is in Venice was just alright to me. I think my main issue was I did not really like either main character. They both got on my nerves. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I liked the main characters.
