Aspenridge College Hockey #2

It's Pucking Complicated

Rate this book
Dad never told me I couldn’t fall for one of his hockey players.
But he never said I could, either…

I’ve followed the Aspenridge College hockey team for years, even when I wasn’t a student. Now that I’ve transferred here, I have up close and personal access to the team, including their parties.

Intending to shed my wallflower status, it’s only natural to attend the first party of the season. Reputed playboy Cody McGuire takes me under his wing, and when he finds out I genuinely love his favorite sport, his interest is piqued.

I don’t mean to keep running into him on campus, but it happens. And when he tells me to prove I’m not like the usual women he has in his bed, what comes out of my mouth is asking him to teach me things. Sexual things. He thinks I’m kidding at first, but I’m not. What better way to learn more skills in the bedroom than from the king of the player’s club?

So long as he doesn’t find out my dad is his new coach….

-ARC review-

Reading the other reviews before I finished the book made me think I was missing something monumentally good within this story. I could not connect to this book or the characters for the life of me. I didn’t understand Liliana or her motivations, and she was a bit dramatic in some parts, so she really bugged me. There were also a lot of phrases and words used that no college student would ever use (e.g. “niggles”) and a lot of cringe worthy moments. Don’t get me wrong, there were some really sweet parts (which is why this book got to 3 ⭐️) but overall I had a hard time finishing it.

Liliana will annoy you. But so will Cody. And they’ll both make you wonder if they’re playing a game, but then the truth behind actions comes out. It doesn’t make everything absolutely okay, but it does explain quite a bit. And Cody really needed to be a lot less flighty…or seeming that way. He sort of plays with Liliana’s emotions because he’s upset that she’s trying to hide her hurt. So it’s a little childish, but knowing that he’s also never really dated means that he’s got a bit of catching up to do in ways that Liliana doesn’t.

My favorite person is her dad, though. He doesn’t fly off the handle. He takes it in stride. And he makes it clear that he just wants safety and happiness all around. Who wouldn’t want someone like that in their corner?

This is my first Taylor Delong book and I really enjoyed it.
This is book 2 in this series and I haven't read the first book, which doesn't really matter as it was easy to follow what had happened in the first book. But I still felt I had missed out on something, especially when the characters from book 1 made an appearance.
This book is about Cody and Lilliana.
Lilliana is the coaches daughter and Cody pays hockey,he is a player and could have his abundance of women...He has a reputation of he only sleeps with a woman once and that is it, no second or third times.
But at a party when he encounters Lilliana he is more than intrigued by her stunning looks and her knowledge of the sport he lives and breathes everyday Hockey.
Lilliana is new to Aspenridge College her father has just gotten the new job as the hockey teams coach,so no-one knows who she is.
She is determined to change her shyness and social isolation she wants to be more out going and be more involved with college life.
What better way of doing that than to grab the attention of the very hot and popular hockey player Cody...she didn't intentionally seek him out it just worked out that way.But now it seems they keep seeing eachother and Cody wants her to prove to him that she isnt like the other girls he encounters, and she plucks up the courage to ask him to help her by teaching her things sexual things she wants more experience and well Cody has tons of experience.
But as they spend more time together feelings become involved and slowly they fall in love, but if he finds out she is the coaches daughter what would happen?.
This is a lovely story full of heat and emotion it was very entertaining to read and I liked both Cody and Lilliana.I loved the banter between them and the push and pull they had going,of course they had lots of chemistry and it was clear they were both very attracted to one another.
But Lilliana doesn't want to be just a notch on Cody's bed post...I think they both misjudge eachother.
It's Pucking Complicated is a satisfying read and I enjoyed reading it very much.
Great sports romance.

It’s Pucking Complicated by Taylor Delong

This book is a fun read about a second year college student, Lilliana, who is trying to be more assertive and confident, seeking out help to accomplish this from the resident playboy hockey player (Cody) on her school’s team. Complications could potentially arise when she starts falling for Cody, whose coach happens to also be Lilliana’s Dad.

It’s Pucking Complicated was my first hockey romance and it definitely opened my eyes to this subgenre of sports romances. One thing I really enjoyed was the author went straight into the plot, right out of the gate. At first, I was surprised because there was no build up, but I actually came to quickly appreciate it. The quick pace of the book allowed me to stay engaged and finish it in a day!

I loved the characters of Lilliana and Cody and was glad the author didn’t waste time at the beginning getting into their relationship. It was nice to be able to enjoy their banter and growing relationship early on and for most of the book. The chemistry between these two was so evident and constant. If anything, it may have been nice to learn more about both Lilliana and Cody’s backgrounds. Cody’s in particular painted him to lack love and support in his youth, but the book didn’t have any anecdotes from his early days to illustrate this.

This is book 2 in a series, which I didn’t read prior, so that along with the quick pace made me have to go back a few times to figure out who was who. I’m definitely going back to read book 1.

Besides enjoying Lilliana and Cody’s relationship form, I was really taken with the relationship portrayed between Lilliana and her Dad. The author did an amazing job describing a parent that I feel most parents would want to model themselves after. Lilliana’s reverence and love for her father was clear and it was really touching to witness their bond.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book for its fast pace and success in painting relationships that were easy to invest in and root for. Thanks to this book, I’m eager to read more books by Taylor Delong!

Thank you Taylor Delong for providing me with an advanced reader copy for review.

3.5/5 full review on thegraduatedbookworm.com

First I'd like to thanks Taylor Delong for sending me an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I really did enjoy this book, but there were a couple things that I felt like it should've happened earlier on so a majority of the book lagged for me. That being said, this was still a really good read and I am so interested in reading more from the series!

So just for me, I felt like the fact that Liliana could have communicated more about the fact that her father is the coach. Like that didn't happen until almost the very end of the book, and really had it been brought up more, there could have been some more fun forbidden, sneaking around romance between the two, rather than her just hiding who she is. I understand part of it, but for the progression of the story, I felt like it should have been earlier on.

Something apart from the relationship between Liliana and Cody was her relationship with one of the previous hockey player's family and little girl. I think it was super sweet, and there was one particular moment that was swoon worthy between all of the characters before things took a turn.

Overall, this was a really good read, but I felt like there could have been certain parts that came out earlier and still made the story move along well. I loved the relationship and the banter between the two of them. I was flipping pages wanting to find out what would happen when the secrets came out!

O.M.G. I’ve been waiting patiently for this book, since I read Pucked Up Plans, and it’s finally here yay!!!

O.M.G ( sorry for the OMG 😱)I just can’t with Liliana and Cody they are amazing, I won’t lie Tate and Walsh are still my favorite (sorry not sorry).
It’s pucking complicated . It's a book that contains all of our (my) favorite tropes, small town, college hockey, coach’s daughter, steamy lessons, he falls first, and no third act break up.
This book introduces the story of Liliana and Cody. Liliana, it’s the new coach's daughter, because her dad has been involved in hockey all her life. She has love, passion, and admiration for the sport. Cody likes the fact that she knows and likes the sport, since they become friends in a party thanks to Cody being Liliana's dad's hockey players.
I love the chemistry these two characters have and how through the story you see it develop more into romantic relationships. How Cody went from being the college bad boy, to someone that deeply cares for Liliana. This is such a wonderful story written by Taylor Delong, it’s worth taking a leap of faith on this story since it’s full of charisma, love, and who doesn’t love a coach daughter’s romance.

I highly recommend you start with the novella, then the first book, and the. This book would help you to better understand the stories. Plus you get an inside in the other existing characters.

Taylor Delong has done it again with the book It's Pucking Complicated. I could not put this book down until the end. I loved the storyline so much; it was original, page-turning, and heartwarming. The characters were complex and had an undeniable chemistry. I loved the drama, secrets, angst, push-and-pull, and spice throughout this book. This book is a contemporary sports romance and is the second in the Aspenridge College Hockey Series. This book can be read as a standalone, but I recommend starting at the beginning. I loved the wallflower and the jock who falls first in this book.

Liliana was a wallflower trying to break out and find herself. She was looking to learn a few things and needed the help of a certain jock. I loved her determination to get what she wanted. She was witty, stubborn, and loved Hockey. Cody was the playboy with a certain reputation. He was intense, devoted to hockey, and obsessed with a certain girl. I really enjoyed how he tried to help Liliana with her research. Their chemistry was a slow build and when it finally caught fire it didn't stop until their passion consumed each other. Their fall into love was epic and beautifully written.

💚 Muffins shouldn't be green. 💚

This is the second book in the series, but you do not need to read the first to read this one. I really enjoyed this book and loved the characters in it. This is the story of Liliana (the coach’s daughter) and Cody (the resident bad boy). Liliana is wanting to be more experienced and the only person she could go to is Cody. What starts as a no strings, lesson plan to be better, turns into love.

As I was reading I was loving the small town college romance vibes. As I was reading I was getting very much Hallmark vibes but with spice! THere were scenes that as I was reading I could see being played out in a Hallmark movie - the baking scene, or the scene with Mimi making them “second dinner”

I need to go back and read the first book now and learn more of the characters and where they come from.

Favorite quotes

2 “Together, we could set this place on fire”
3 “You like muffins? I got us the sampler…”

💚Muffins shouldn’t be green💚

This was my first book by this author, and it was a super cute story. I honestly loved Cody, he’s so adorable and down to earth. I loved his POV. Getting to know his character was truly enjoyable. Lilliana is a relatable character to me. I got where she was coming from in wanting to shed her wallflower persona. I can’t say I relate to her methods though 😂. The way Cody cared so much about how he came across to Lilliana made my heart melt. The chemistry between Lilliana and Cody was so good. The spice was spicy but it wasn’t too much.

I’m giving this book 4 stars because it does get a little repetitive at times, mostly about how much of a playboy Cody is. It does give off Wattpad/fanfic vibes but I don’t necessarily feel like that’s a bad thing. All in all this was a good, heart warming, fun story!!!

I would like to thank Taylor Delong for the opportunity to be an arc reader. I enjoyed every minute I got to read this book 🥰💜.

Liliana was looking to shed her Wallflower status and what better way then with hockey player bad by, Cody McGuier who she just happens to meet at the first hockey party of the year.

Friendship forms quickly between Liliana And Cody while a  deeper connection forms. I love the banter between these two. The spice is off the charts with these two and this book did not disappoint!

Taylor Delong's "Pucking Complicated" is an irresistible blend of romance and hockey that will keep you hooked from start to finish. This series started strong with book one, and this one continues the trend. The story revolves around Liliana and Cody, whose chemistry is undeniable from their first encounter. Delong does a fantastic job of developing the characters and their relationship, making their journey relatable and captivating. Liliana's transformation from a shy wallflower to a confident woman is fun to experience, and Cody's evolution from a playboy to someone capable of genuine feelings is equally compelling.
"Pucking Complicated" is a must-read for anyone who loves a good sports romance with strong characters, sizzling chemistry, and a storyline that keeps you engaged until the end. Taylor Delong has crafted a delightful tale that leaves readers eagerly anticipating her next book.

“Dad never told me I couldn’t fall for one of his hockey players.
But he never said I could, either.”

It’s Pucking Complicated by Taylor DeLong is the story of Lilliana, who asks for help from hockey player Cody to be more confident. Only Cody does not know his coach is her Dad.

This book is the second book in a series, and while I did not read the first book (yet), I could read this book without confusion. Cody and Lilliana have a good chemistry and the banter and spice between them was just great. Their interaction made them both better people: she became more confident and Cody became a better person, not so much a playboy. The writing style is flowing and I had a hard time putting the book down. It has a great story-line, strong characters.

I have discovered the hockey romance novels not so long ago and I think they are just great. It’s Pucking Complicated is a must read if you like these novels as much as I do! I will definitely read the other books in this series.

Taylor Delong has done it again with another amazing book! I loved the first book in this series and I loved this book as well.
I absolutely loved that we had a playlist. I download the songs and listen to them as I’m reading the book. I loved Liliana and Cody’s characters. The bond between Liliana and her dad is one a little girl looks up to. I never knew my dad so it was genuine to see their father / daughter relationship.
I really love the hockey romance and Taylor does such a wonderful job writing them. I just kept reading each chapter waiting to see what happens next with Cody and Liliana but then again I didn’t want it to end. I loved the whole atmosphere It’s pucking complicated gave off. I love the fact that Liliana not only knows about hockey but actually enjoys the sport. It may or may not have to do with the fact that her dad is the coach.
I loved how Cody and Liliana started out and ended out. It’s one of those stories that you can’t wait to see more of.

OHHHHHHH EMMMMM GEEEEE. So dang good. I could not put the book down and I started it lasts at night and immediately had to finish it the next morning and laid on my couch unmoving until I did so. Cody and Liliana had the cutest freaking story and I ate up every second. I think I’m in love with Cody and his adorable insecurities. It was nice to hear from his perspective the thoughts that he had, you don’t always get that. It’s refreshing to see that the man has insecurities too and it’s not all about the woman. Liliana was such a beautiful character and she had amazing intentions from the beginning and she was the sweetest. The spice was spicy but not in your face and I really enjoyed it! I enjoyed the character development and watching their relationship develop. I can’t wait to get the next book in this series!!!

✨️ Arc Reader ✨️

This is a super cute story. If you're looking for a simply and quick read this is definetly one for you. The plot developes super quick and at times can feel slightly rushed, so if you're more about a solid storyline, this book may not be for you.

I'm giving this book four stars because despite it being a fun lil heart warming story, it does come across as rather redundant and sorta gives off a wattpad/fanfiction sorta vibe. Which isn't necessarily an issue. I used to be a sucker for a good fanfiction. At points though, it just felt super repetive, hearing Cody was a play boy 5 billion times was a little much at times.

All in all, it's a good story and definetly worth a read if you're looking for a palette cleanser or just want a feel good story!

Thank you for the opportunity, I'm very fortunate to have been an arc reader.

This was a cute college hockey romance that was easy to read. Liliana wanted more experience with guys so she chose Cody. He is a hockey player and she knows all things hockey. She keeps her father's identity a secret from Cody for reasons all her own, but Cody takes it very personally. Is it because he's a hockey player or one with a reputation for bedding puck bunnies? But he walks away before she has a chance to explain. Maybe they're both hurt by the other's reactions because there's more to their relationship than bedroom lessons. Once they've had that tough convo, the tables have turned and Cody needs some dating lessons. They're perfect for each other! Overall, the story is easy to read. There is no third act break-up. I loved catching up with Tate and Walsh and their little ones Aubrey and Lennon. Not to mention Mama Keeley and her sage advice for Cody.

I received an advance copy of this book at my request and voluntarily left this review.

It’s Pucking Complicated by Taylor Delong
⭐️4/5⁣⁣⁣
🥰Playboy
🥰Coaches Daughter
🥰Hockey
🥰Sex Lessons

Lilliana is tired of being a wall flower. When she transfers to the collage her dad is the Hockey Coach for, she decides to lose her wallflower reputation. She decides that she can use someone on the Hockey team to help her achieve this because she loves and knows Hockey. So what does she do? She gets herself noticed by the team’s Playboy. What better way to get herself noticed and not be such a wallflower. She loves all things pistachio. Which freaks Cody out but that’s what draws him to her as well as her knowledge to hockey.

Cody and Lilliana’s banter will have you laughing and not able to put this story down. It was a great read. I did not read book 1 before but will be going back to read it now!!!

I would highly recommend this as your next read!

3.5/⭐️

I really wanted to liek those book. It start off strong and then kinda fell flat for me.

Lilliana kind bothered me. Started to fall for the guy who she can’t been telling who her dad is because she doesn’t want him to know she is hooking up with a hockey player, but not because she’s embarrassed of him, but also she constantly brings up that is very active sexual past? But it doesn’t bother her??
Cody started off as a fun friend and he was such a promising person, but then he kind got to into his head and didn’t really even try to have fun with the lessons or with the girl he was fall for?
It felt very mechanical, and not fun. At least for me.

I didn’t feel the connection of them together, at least past friendship.

⭐️ I received this as an ARC ⭐️

First; thank you so much to the Taylor for letting me read this. I’m very, very honored!

Second; this boon was so, so good! I’m a sucker for hockey-romance!!🤩 I loved that the male main character weren’t a douchebag to the female character. He was actually really cute, sweet and understanding towards her! I know he was a player but there weren’t any cheating, or trying to get her jealous. I liked that!

The female character was kinda confusing and it got to a point where I became frustrated towards her. I can’t count to how many times I thought to myself: just tell him. It’s gonna blow up in your face! (You are gonna have to read to understand! 😉).

All in all I liked this book and if you like sports romance this one is definitely for you!

This series has been so much fun! I loved these two! It’s Pucking Complicated was the second book in Taylor’s Aspenridge College Hockey series and can be read as a stand-alone but don’t miss out on the first book! It was fun and super cute!

Liliana transferred to Aspenridge and was ready to become more outgoing. What better way than to party with a bunch of guys from the hockey team. One player, in more ways than one, was ready to help her out. Cody wasn’t one to stay with the same girl but there was something special about Liliana.

Pistachio muffins are amazing, just throwing that out there! And I loved Cody’s nicknames for her! It was fun watching them together as they navigated their way. Annnddd the bonus epilogue, holy amazingness!! Can’t wait to see where this series goes next!

Cody and Liliana definitely got on my nerves at first. Liliana is not honest with Cody for most of their relationship. Cody has a bad outlook on himself due to his playboy ways and thinks that is the root of all his and Liliana's problems. Their communication is lacking because both have a hard time with honesty. With that being said, I really LOVED this book. Cody is a super sweet guy who just needs someone on his side. The two have an instant connection and when they decide to take their relationship to the next level the two are both funny and spicy in the bedroom. I adore the hockey boys of Aspenridge and who doesn't love the two best secondary characters Mama Millie and Lennon the unofficial mascot.

ARC Review

First I’d like to say thank you so much to Taylor for allowing me to advanced read this book. I absolutely loved getting to know both Lillian and Cody during the story. She explains their characters so well that I thought like I really truly knew them. I was skeptical at first because I thought oh no another hockey romance, she did such a good job keeping it and keeping the storyline fresh. There were a lot of spice elements too, which made the book chefs kiss. seriously I loved watching the relationship between Lillian and Cody build so much. I truly wish I could’ve gotten more of the relationship aspect and them getting to know each other. If you’re looking for an easy but can’t put down book, definitely give this one a shot!!

ARC Review

I absolutely loved this book! I think it was fast paced and easy to keep track of. I understand what some of the other reviews are saying, but I think if you are looking for something *mostly* lighthearted but still spicy this is the book for you.

I did like that you do not have to read the first book to understand what is happening. This is my first book from this series and first book by Taylor Delong but I definitely want to go back and read the first one!

I also think I liked this book because it’s not the typical enemies to lovers or grumpy sunshine which are both EXTREMELY popular right now. Nothing wrong with those tropes just this was a nice break from "popular stuff."

💚 Muffins shouldn't be green. 💚

3.5 ⭐'s rounded up to 4

This is my first book by this author. And it was a cute read!
I liked the dynamic between Cody and Lilliana, and I enjoyed how her knowledge of the sport seemed to inspire Cody.
I wish they went into Lilliana's background a bit more, like why did she feel so inadequate, I would have liked to have her go into that more with Cody and allow him to help break down those barriers.
The characters just fell a little flat, you got the basics - she has a great dad and an overbearing/controlling mother, and he has parents that don't really care for him, but really not much more.

Overall a nice easy read 😊

Okayy this book has me sold on this author for life. It’s my first time reading one of Taylor’s books & this was my perfect book! And to make it 100 time better the bonus scene at the end I can’t deal!!!

Firstly, the dedication to her dad took a hold on me right from the start. The father daughter relationship throughout this book reminded me of how close I am to my dad & was a nice journey to read.

The characters, Cody & Liliana were so enjoyable to read with the perfect character growth, romance, spicy scenes & the ending was a nice way to wrap up the book.

But the book I promise you won’t regret it!!

I received this book as an arc.
I would probably give it a 3.5 star but since Goodreads doesn’t do half, I’ll give it a four because I don’t feel it deserves at 3.
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
I liked this book Liliana and Cody were cute. Their banter was funny. They both had their own insecurities that made things a bit complicated for them but I liked it because it real and human.
It’s stranger to lovers. He teachers her 🌶️ things. He is a classic play boy and she’s wanting to gain some experience in the bedroom.
I loved the hockey aspect of it.
The friends and family around these characters were fun too.

Literally devoured this freaking book that I didn’t want it to end. The first chapter was a bit slow in my opinion but man did the book work out all the info were given in the beginning. I loved everything I read. The growth the emotion the conversation the healthiness. It wasn’t my favorite that Liliana cried as much as she did, but when I put myself in her shoes I get it. Even with the healthy relationship with her dad there were underlying things she didn’t realize. I like that Cody was able to grow as see that not everything that he saw bad in himself is what others saw as well. This story was amazing, 100% recommended and will read again

This is the second book in the Aspenridge College Hockey series and I really enjoyed it. I liked that Liliana and Cody were introduced in the first book and they weren’t completely unknown characters that we start over with. There’s some spice but not too much. I’d say like 1.5-2 🌶️. The characters do get in their heads a lot and there’s a lot of internal monologues BUT remember the characters are 19. Overall I really enjoyed reading this. It’s got some spice, romance, young love, and overall is a feel good book that you can read in one sitting. I didn’t want to put it down. Don’t forget to read the bonus scene!

There were things I loved about this book. I loved the character of Cody and the way he was a big marshmallow for Lili. I loved the hockey lingo and how these two characters bonded over their of the sport. I also adore the author. I felt that this book came off kind of juvenile. I know these characters are 19/20 years old but they felt younger. I also have learned that the I experienced heroine trope is not my thing. I think more could have been done with the father is also the coach plot line. Sneaking around would have been spicy. All of that, it was a sweet love story and a bit of a slow burn.
