Zombie Project Management

When I was a boy, I watched my first zombie movie. I wasn’t a huge fan of the genre but in a perverse way, I did enjoy watching hoards of zombies chase down the able-bodied non-zombies and convert them, one by one. How was this possible? I figured the non-zombies always had an upper hand. If non-zombies had an unlimited supply of ammunition, and relatively good aim, I reasoned they could repel zombie attacks indefinitely. Additionally, if they had plenty of building supplies, specifically plywood and nails, they could keep zombies at bay until provisions ran out. Then, of course, they had to go out and raid a grocery store, convenience store, or shopping mall. This always seemed to result in someone leaving a car window rolled down, dropping a set of keys, or having a weapon malfunction. The end result was a new zombie.

Fast forward to today. I’ve changed and so have the zombies. In the movies, they’ve gotten a lot faster. It used to be, all you had to do was outrun them and regroup. Now, if you fall and twist your ankle, you’re as good as zombie toast.

For me, modern zombies are like everyday people with really bad skin and dietary needs. When you think of a zombie, you think of mindless things. When you’re dealing with projects, you deal with an ever-growing list of things. And so I discovered the zombies among me.
