Guilty until proven innocent

That was the McAllister family motto, wasn't it? Cole Daniels would never forget it--no matter how interested he was in pretty, kind Leigh McAllister. Thanks to lies told by her uncle, Cole's father was wrongly imprisoned. Now that Cole and Leigh were both back in Wolf Creek, Wyoming, he was sure Leigh held the key to clearing his father's good name. But his quest for justice was complicated by the escalating sabotage of Leigh's vet clinic and by his growing feelings for her.

Roxanne is a USA Today Bestselling, award-winning author of forty romantic suspense, mystery, and heart-warming, emotionally charged relationship novels in the clean & wholesome, as well as inspirational romance genres.

She got her first horse at the tender age of six and grew up riding bareback with wild abandon throughout her small Minnesota town year-round. It was like giving a child car keys!

She showed horses for many years, and later, she and her husband raised quarter horses and thoroughbreds until their kids came along.

She's living her childhood dream, living on an acreage in the country with her husband, three horses (all beloved elderly pasture ornaments, now), a golden retriever, a Mountain Cur rescue, and six fluffy barn cats. It's a much smaller menagerie than when their three kids were still at home!

Ranches, animals, and small-town life frequently find their way into her books.

It's hard to do romantic suspense well in the confines of the length of a Love Inspired Suspense book. In this case, Leigh and Cole knew each other when younger and had the beginnings of a relationship at that time--until Leigh's mother told Cole he wasn't good enough for her daughter.

It seems in the meantime that Cole has gotten married, had a daughter, and gotten divorced. Leigh's uncle sold his farm to Cole (after stating for years that he'd leave it to Claire and her daughters). One of the reasons for Cole's return is to try to prove that his late father was innocent of the murder for which he was convicted.

Leigh bought the practice of a retiring veterinarian. This vet has a relative who's a vet who has an office nearby--so why wasn't the practice offered to this relative first? It seems the relative wanted the business, and given the terms Leigh gets for the first year--one would think the relative could have gotten the same. (Then again, maybe his financial situation was known and that's why it wasn't feasible.) I have a feeling the author wanted to set up tension to make us wonder if he wasn't the one sabotaging Leigh's office but it was a poor attempt since no explanation was given as to why he hadn't bought the practice outright.

This book was in my night stand "to read" drawer, but I have no idea where it came from. There was no name inside and I don't remember buying it myself. I was a bit hesitant to read it because the cover said something about it being "an inspirational romance" or something like that and I really hate cheesy "Christian" books where people never really get upset because God takes care of everything and they have no problem turning all of their anger, hurt, or whatever over to Him.

In an effort to clean out my drawer, I told myself it is a quick read and read the book. I enjoyed it much more then I thought I would. Hence the 4 stars instead of probably a 3 if I hadn't been expecting the worse.

I found the story of two adults returning to their old hometown amid bitterness of accusations and hurt from the past to be relatively realistic. God and prayer was a part of the book, but in a natural way, instead of forced or too much. Characters dealt with prejudices, bitterness, and unrealized dreams. As you would expect, The book was clean.

Apparently this is the 2nd book in a series, but I think the first book dealt with a sister of the main character here, so I didn't feel like I didn't know what was going on.

VENDETTA by Roxanne Rustand, is an outstanding inspirational suspense romance novel! One of Roxanne's best!! With a theme of Guilty until proven innocent, it was one nail-biting, hair raising event after another which definitely makes you want to finish it before laying it down! You just can't wait to see what is going to happen next! VENDETTA had a little bit of everything to keep it interesting; family, friends, love, passion, inspiration and mystery. And what a wonderful and surprise ending! I absolutely fell in love with all the characters, especially the dog, Hobo! In VENDETTA, Roxanne shows us that if we trust in God's love and abiding presence and speak to Him in prayer, then we, like Cole and Leigh, can make it through the very worst of times. I loved this book and am glad to say I highly recommend it to everyone! God bless you, Roxanne, and I look forward to you next book!

I haven't read the other two books in this series, but if they're anything like this one then they should be hits too. Vendetta has a well rounded cast of characters, some you will like and some you will deeply dislike. This story focuses on how the past can haunt you forever, and how you need to learn to let go and move on. It's not your overwhelmingly mushy romance story which I myself think is a great plus.
