OK guys like let’s be for real. I have so many thoughts and opinions about this book first things first this was my first time reading from this author and it won’t be my last..

When I first started reading this book, I was thinking OK I really wanted it to pick up the pace a little, but then once it started to pick up I was like omggg Olivia and Parker please slow down.Olivia and Parker literally went from 0 to hundred in 90 seconds. I will say, I think Olivia got her life back on track from the drugs, but she still drank a lot!! It felt like she traded one vice for another one.. also did she just never speak to Chelsey again?

I’m sorry I might be in the minority I think Parker is a very very selfish person, and Olivia is a better person than me because I would never speak to him again!! I just can’t get over how he acted after the incident and how easily he was forgiven And everything that followed that just blew my mind. And yes I understand he was dealing with some past trauma.. but to go weeks without contacting Liv .. yea ok please never talk to me again. Thanks

I really can’t say much more without giving spoilers and I hate that because, this one of those books that I really really need people to read because I wanna take several hours of my day to talk about it like to go I have so many questions that I need answered.

If you love romance and second chances, this is the book for you.

Olivia, a model, is working through the death of her mother and returns to her hometown to sell the house. Parker, a golf pro, also has past trauma he is working through. These two meet, and the sparks fly. They begin to rebuild their lives, then tragedy strikes. Parker spirals out of control, and Olivia has to find a way to rescue Parker.

This was a quick read. The story was all about second chances and love. I most especially loved the descriptions of the food these two characters made. A bonus is the recipes at the end of the book.

I would recommend this book. Thank you to the author and @haylingbookstorm for the e-ARC.

A generous 3 stars

The story in a nutshell was cute and the only reason I finished the book (that and I don't ever DNF really). However, the way it read was the FMC was very nonchalant about everything that had happened to her in her life. Nothing really ruffled her feathers. Met a guy? Cool. Fell in love? Cool. Got disfigured an lost your livelihood? Cool. Love of your life blames himself? Cool. Figured out a new path in life? Cool.

She had no fire. No passion. It was all very go with the flow. There was also a lot more describing of things than I prefer. I get that the scene needs to be set and I have to visualize it in my head, but I felt like there were times where it was too descriptive. Almost like the word count needed to be higher so scenes that were not important were expanded. The same details about the same things they do every day.

It's weird. There was too much details/fluff in all places except where I wish details/fluff were given. By the time the accident happens, the book is basically over. It was super slow getting to the accident and then it seemed to just take off like a bat outta hell. The parts that needed the explanation (his isolation, her rehab) were glossed over and then BOOM! Happily ever after.

Wow! Super cute second chance, friends to lover trope story.

Story unfolds with Olivia 💁🏼‍♀️ a go with the flow chick with a modeling career. To keep up with her hectic lifestyle, she turns to drugs for the extra push but things take a turn when she’s caught in a compromising photo..

Releasing she needs help, Olivia embarks on a journey of recovery.. Post rehab, she heads back to her moms place (who passed away a few years back) intending to sell the house.

Enter Parker🙋🏻‍♂️, her neighbour and a professional golfer, who is dealing with his own tragedy and guilt from a death that happened 14 years ago

It’s a heartwarming tale where they cross paths, sparks fly and love happens 🫶 Together, they share a passion for boating and cooking until a tragedy at sea puts their relationship to the test…

Honestly this book is a cute but charming roller coaster about a couple navigating through their personal struggles, finding love and building a life together

This was a quick read for me! The book even includes recipes.. the ones Parker and Olivia made in the book😋 super awesome :)

Highly recommend this book! It’s a quick and cute read that will definitely leave you smiling a lot 😊

“Yet I felt like I couldn’t remember a day without him, as if we’d been together forever.”

Beneath the Surface by K.C Poitras is more than just a romance novel. It’s a book about learning to deal with grief, falling in love, experiencing challenges, and growing. If you’re interested in a friends/neighbors to lovers romance with second chance themes and near death experiences, this book is the one for you!

Olivia goes through a lot of difficult moments throughout the book. She struggles to cope with the loss of her mother and moves back home to sell the house. It’s here she meets Parker, a professional golfer, who is undeniably perfect for her. From the moment they meet, readers can see the connection and romance building.

Despite their instant love for one another, the pairs relationship is not at all easy. An unexpected tragedy occurs, which causes a sudden drift between the two characters. Although heartbreaking, this tragedy allowed Olivia to grow and fight for her relationship.

Beneath the Surface had an interesting plot and a compelling structure. K.C Poitras did a wonderful job with this book!

A second chance romance you won't forget! ❤️‍🔥

This story proves that if you want to be with someone, you will have to go through all of the ups and sadly the downs to make it through. I absolutely thought Olivia and Parker's relationship was beautiful! They both were working through so much trauma from their pasts while slowly falling in love 🥺 The romance was definitely on the slow burn side, but the events happening throughout definitely made up for it💕 This was my first book I've read of KC. Poitras and it certainly will not be the last❤️‍🔥 If you're looking to go on an emotional rollercoaster, slow burn romance, then this is a book to add to your tbr!

This was my first read by KC Poitras and it definitely won’t be the last. This emotional story had me from the very beginning.
I really loved Olivias character, the beginning was already emotional with her losing her mother and she just doesn’t know how to grieve which leads her to drugs and her journey was so inspiring to read. We meet Parker who’s her neighbor and a pro golfer who is ALSO dealing with a tragedy and watching these two come together was everything. It was a rollercoaster and it was messy but I loved reading it.

If you want something that will get you out of a reading slump, something that’s a quick read, love second chances, getting your heart ripped out but put back together, want to throw your kindle at some parts and just fall in love with two broken people who heal together than this book is for you.
I absolutely loved KC’s writing and I can’t wait to read her other books. 😊

A second chance romance story with great characters. I really enjoyed getting to know Parker and Olivia. They both have struggles they are trying to overcome. The cooking aspect was fun. The recipe sound amazing. Finding the recipes at the back at the back was a big bonus! I want to try the Crabby Patties one day soon!
There is a sense of authenticity to the story that draws you in.
Great book for your summer reading list!

ARC REVIEW - BENEATH THE SURFACE BY KC POITRAS

Duel pov in first person.

This is my first ARC read of 2024 and it didn't dissapoint!

Here we see the repercussions of Livs high profile lifestyle and grief from loss. We see Parkers demons from a childhood tragedy whilst searching for comfort. Fate brings them together in a romantic love story. Tragedy strikes the pair again in a near death experience and we see Parkers demons surface again as he blames himself.
Liv Is portrayed as so strong and resilient throughout the whole book, despite the battles that could destroy her. Surrounded by supportive friends and family, love prevails and really does conquer all.

I enjoyed this! It is really well written from the first person perspective and we can really see the strength in Livs character and the love her and Parker have for one another.

⚠️ Elements that some readers may find triggering ⚠️
⚠️ Drug use, detox and rehab.
⚠️ Grief and loss
⚠️Near death experience and mentions of disfigurement

This was a sweet read that addressed some heavier content. Liv is a strong, independent, fierce woman who deals with some struggles during her modeling career. After becoming healthy again, she meets Parker, her pro-golfer neighbor. As you can imagine, they fall in love. Though their romance is sweet but fast, a tragic event occurs, threatening to tear them apart.

⛳️ dual POV
💋 model and pro-golfer
⛳️ addiction/recovery rep
💋 neighbor/girl next door
⛳️ near death experience
💋 forgiveness/love
⛳️ grief/loss

Overall, a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read. Cute beach read when it’s finally summer again!

PS - I absolutely loved the recipes included at the end of the book of all the food featured throughout the book! Such a nice touch.

Thank you to the author K.C. Poitras and Hayling Bookstorm PR for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

ARC REVIEW

My Star Rating: 3.5/5 ⭐
*rounded to 4 for Goodreads rating options
My Spice Rating: 1/5 🌶️

What you’ll find:
- Neighbors/Friends to Lovers
- Second Chance Romance
- Dual POVs (1st person)
- Grief/Loss
- Found Family
- Near Death Experience
- Past Trauma

Beneath the Surface is a gripping, neighbors/friends to lovers, second-chance romance that follows the love story of Parker and Olivia. Olivia is a model who moves back home after the passing of her mother. Parker is a pro golfer, who just happens to be Olivia's next-door neighbor. They meet and are instantly attracted to each other.

I enjoyed the plot and the description of the setting. As someone who spent a lot of my life in Florida, it was neat to see cities mentioned that I am familiar with. The main characters were developed well and multiple POVs transported me into their minds. Although I could not fully connect with the characters, I did appreciate reading there was more to them than being "wealthy, beautiful, and accomplished". Tragedy is not selective and certainly, one's status in this life does not dictate if tragedy will strike.

Parker and Olivia's relationship was beautiful. Parker did make some decisions I did not agree with, but he made up for it in the end. Parker and Olivia both truly needed each other and helped each other heal. I loved reading about the other relationships/friendships as well, as they provided even more insight into Parker and Olivia -- Liv & Elliot, Parker & Nicole, Parker & Kayla, and Parker & his mother.

Beneath the Surface explores addiction, grief, growth, healing, guilt, forgiveness, bouncing back from tragedy, being comfortable in one's skin, and second chances.

Thank you KC. Poitras and haylingbookstorm for providing me with an eARC in exchange for my honest review. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Beneath the surface
Release date: 6th February 2024

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

"Parker, I want you to see me for who I am now and remember who l was then. To let it go: the past me. I'm here. I'm damaged, but l'm alive."

Oliva is a stunning carefree model and left hope whilst dealing with grief and turned to drugs as a coping mechanism. After then heading back home she then meets her neighbour. Parker is a professional golfer who is dealing with childhood trauma from a tragedy that happened 14 years ago.

My first ever arc so i was nervous as it’s an author i’ve never heard of before. I read this book in one sitting. I never read a book in one sitting!
This book just reeled me in and captured me. I felt the writing style was different to previous books i’ve read which i loved. I enjoyed Olivia’s character growth. I also liked how it was about hard topics such as addiction and childhood trauma. I loved Liv and Parks relationship, like they were just little food lovers which i loved! However i was a little mad at him and feel he got let off a little easily. I also loved Olivia and Eliot’s friendship they were so cute.

Overall i really enjoyed this book it was a quick read. I also love the little recipes at the end, definitely need to try them out!

Troupes:
♡︎ Second chance romance
♡︎ Near death experience
♡︎ Friends to lovers
♡︎ Suspense
♡︎ Found family
♡︎ Dual POV (few extra POV’s however focuses more on the 2)

**Recommend to check trigger warnings as deals with drug abuse/recovering from addiction & near death experience/trauma**

A cute, 'second chance at life & love' story that keeps you invested!
This was the first work of KC Poitras that I've read, and I really enjoyed getting to know her characters!

When you first meet Olivia, she is trying to sort her life out after being caught in an unfortunate photo. You really relate to her as she sorts through her emotions, and tries to find a way to rebuild her life.

Parker is the pro golfer who, after dealing with guilt stemming from a loss almost a decade and a half ago, now refuses to let anyone get too close, in fear of losing them too. That is, until he meets his beautiful new next door neighbour. He's attractive, wealthy, and has a dog! (Let's be real, Simba is 100% a selling point!)

Parker & Olivia have instant chemistry, and it leaves you waiting for their next interaction! On more than one occasion I found myself saying "oh just shut up and kiss her already!"
Anyone who knows me, knows I'm a crier. And I was shocked, I thought I was going to be able to make it through Parker & Olivia's story dry-eyed. That is, until El gives Liv the 2 boxes. IYKYK. I was done. Full on, Kim K ugly crying!

Thank you K.C. Poitras for allowing me to be a part of this!

It is not something fantasy like I have been reading for quite a while now, but it is still romance. This is why it took me a while to get into the book. But boy was it a good one.

It is great to read in the summer while lying on the beach. I loved the multiple POV's between the two main characters and just loved seeing their love slowly unfold.

This book is a ride about a couple navigating through their personal struggles, finding love, and building a life together wile trying to make themselves be better

I also loved the fact that at the end of the book, a whole bunch of recipes are included which I would love to try out.

Favorite Characters:

Olivia: She is a model who at the beginning of the book is struggling with drug abuse. She gets caught and has to quit her job and start rehab, which is really difficult for her but she eventually manages to get better and this is exactly what we mean by major character improvement.

Parker: this guy seems like your everyday normal guy, but he carries demons with him. he blames himself for the death of a sibling which happened a long time ago but with the help of Olivia he gets a bit better. They just complement each other so well.

3.5 stars for me

Thank you so much to the author, KC Poitras, for the eARC of this book!

This story follows Olivia & Parker. Olivia, being a model, ends up finding herself going down the wrong path till a picture shows up in the media and forces her to seek help and recovery. Olivia decides to move back to the house that she grew up in to work on healing through the death of her mother. Olivia spends time making the house her own and in the midst of this, meets her next door neighbor Parker. Parker is a professional golfer who is also trying to plant roots and find happiness. Olivia and Parker find themselves instantly attracted to one another. Then tragedy strikes and Parker and Olivia find themselves learning how to make it through a near death experience. The journey throughout has its obstacles and Olivia and Parker end up finding peace, forgiveness, and happiness on the other side.

This was a bit of a heart wrenching one as the author is taking you through a sweet love story and then suddenly the characters have to deal with trauma from a near death experience. Olivia and Parker deal with this near death experience in very different ways and I found myself just wanting to smack Parker upside the head! I did enjoy how they both connected through food and cooking and the recipes included at the end of the book was such an awesome addition. I do wish we had gotten to experience Olivia’s journey through recovery and dealing with grief more so I could have felt a bit more connected to her. I also wish there was more angst and tension between Olivia and Parker before they had gotten together.

Olivia is a model, ready to return to her home town and settle down. Parker is a professional golfer who is happy in his life, but looking for something more. There is attraction between Parker and Olivia from the first glance and it forces them to reevaluate what they want for themselves and from each other. The couple is going strong when tragedy strikes. Will they be able to overcome this devastating blow or will they fall apart in the process?

Beneath the Surface is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast with some new twists. I enjoyed the world that was created in this book and the characters. The love story was one of second chances and full of grace and a sweetness that made Olivia and Parker perfect together. This is a well written, slow burning love story that is perfect for romance fans who want a little something more than pure spice in their reads. I found this to be a sweet story that pulled at my heart strings in places. The obstacles that the characters have to overcome add so much to this story, making it more than just your typical run of the mill romance. I really enjoyed this take on this classic fairytale and recommended it as a good, sweet romance.

Wow what a great second chance love story! I would consider Beneath the Surface a slow burn, but Olivia and Patrick's story kept me invested.

Olivia is a very successful model who gets wrapped up in drugs after her mother's death. Patrick is a very successful professional golfer who is still haunted by the unfortunate SIDs related death of his six week old baby brother 14 years ago. Life brings Patrick and Olivia together when they needed each other the most. However, life is life, and tragedy strikes again. Are they able to overcome the deck of cards that life has dealt this time around?

This is my first KC Poitras novel, and I would definitely read more of her work. The only thing I wanted more was Olivia and Patrick bonding over the lost of their love ones. I feel it played a big part in the individual stories and bringing them together as one. My mouth started to salivating reading about all the great sounding food Olivia and Patrick would make together in the book, so to see the recipes in the end was amazing!

This was sent to me as a ARC and was my first ever ARC.
I struggled a little with this one but only because I read more dark romance and this wasn't that so it moved a little slower than I am used to. I would have liked for Parker and Olivia's story to start a little sooner than it did but you also needed their backstory to understand that they were both troubled due to tragic events in their lives and their struggle to heal from them.
As the story continues to develop Parker and Olivia become closer, they share some of the same passions and their relationship continues to grow and continue to heal from their past as well as current tragic events. As Parker puts the blame once again on himself for things that are out of his control their relationship is threatened and it will take Olivia to help him get through it and together they will move on rather than let it tear them apart.
If you like second chance, slow burn romances this will be an enjoyable read for you. The pace of the story took me a little longer to read but it was a sweet story.

I really wanted to like this book, but it was just confusing. The events would happen so quickly and the storyline moved from one scene to another completely different, and at the same time everything felt dragged and nothing would really happen. I don't know quite how to explain it.

I'll say that I powered through and liked it significantly better around the 68% mark when something actually happens.
Before this it would be just random information and scenes thrown together that didn't have a purpose.

I feel like what the blurb promised (really promising btw) was kind of there but just not really well executed.

I will say that I really did like the characters, while, as the storyline, they could've been better executed and deepened, they were real, enjoyable and interesting. Some side characters were just thrown there and made one random appearance but the main ones were okay.

The recipes at the end were a 10/10 idea, and I will be trying some of them!

Thank you @haylingbooks for an arc in exchange for an honest review!💜

A fast-burn romance with unpredictable turns.
From coping with addiction to struggles with guilt and grief, the protagonists, Olivia and Parker, find comfort in each other. In a fast-paced and steamy development, their relationship becomes one of picture perfection. However, like any true romance, the question becomes: Will they withstand the obstacles that come forth? Or will the past continue to haunt them?

I praise Poitras for writing a story for the hopeless romantics that is quick and difficult to put down at times. The story is full of fun and quirky characters that make them easy to love. The first-person POV allows us into the minds of Olivia and Parker. I, for one, shouted at my screen to scold Parks a time or two. It stirs many emotions. The unexpected turns are what make the book unlike anything I've read.

If you need a vacation book to fully immerse yourself in, I invite you to read this one.

What a beautiful, heartfelt book this is! I fell in love with Olivia and Parker, their connection is from the offset and their relationship blossoms. I would love to live where they do, somewhere near the beach, with a boat you could just go out and explore in.

I love how this book gripped me early on, all the characters felt genuine, I loved El, he's brilliant too! This story shows that love isn't just skin deep, after a certain event in the book, it show's the true meaning of love from Parker.

I feel I could write so much but don't want to spoil you meeting Olivia and Parker for yourselves! You are definitely in for a ride!

This book contains just enough smut, I feel more may have changed the feel off the book, there's is passion between them but written in a nice way to show it without going too over the top.

I really enjoyed reading this book and will look out for more in future!

This book had me turning page after page wanting to know what happens with the two main Characters. Olivia is a model and Parker a pro golfer (great names by the way) end up being each other's neighbors by chance. The cute back and forth between them was great. The suprise near the end of the book just absolutely shocked me because I never saw it coming. I also expected Olivia aka Liv to act the way Parker aka Parks did instead of him. I did like the role reversal a lot because it was very unexpected. The Author did great with the imagery because when there was pain and anguish in the one Characters actions I really could picture it all. The thing I am sad about was I wasn't on vacation when I read it. It is absolutely a vacation read. Meaning I would have picked it to take on vacation to read and relax. Great book absolutely worth reading. I look forward to reading whatever the coming soon book is that is mentioned at the back of the book.

Olivia, a model who tends to get caught up in her lifestyle and drugs, has recently lost her mom and her world gets a little more rocky when the paparazzi catches her in an unflattering photo. After rehab, Olivia returns to a familiar neighborhood and meets….Parker. He is a professional golfer and quite yummy. Sparks fly right away and it cannot be denied. Parker and Olivia need each other. Their past isn’t the only struggle, but they won’t let go and give up. If you need a HEA (new term for me – I am learning my romance acronyms) romance book with just the perfect amount of spice to keep the pages turning, second chances and chaotic love (oh and a warm location – Miami and further south) – this is the book for you.

This is definitely the book for you if you’re looking for a quick summer romance read. I loved this friends to lovers story! Olivia & Parker’s romance started out slow, but went by so fast.

I have read a lot of romance books in my life, but never one quite like this. When tragedy strikes on an otherwise happy day, Olivia and Parker’s relationship is put to the test. Olivia’s life is changed forever, and Parker blames himself.

I loved how these two saved each other, and I loved getting to know all of the lovely characters in this story. Olivia had such a touching backstory, and I loved how Parker and his family helped to fix all of her broken pieces.

Bonus points for including all of the recipes mentioned in this book!!

Hello fellow readers, here I am with a review of a book that I have just finished reading and that has struck me very deeply... When I read that this book was about past traumas, second chances I said to myself I have to read it absolutely ... but I certainly didn't expect to be touched, touched so deeply by the story of Olivia and Parker, which is a slow love story but full of events that, believe me, will make you shed even a few tears... As I was saying, a slow love story is told but that will keep you in suspense until the end. One thing I learned from this book: we can be broken inside, we can be definitely broken, but in our lives we may meet someone who will make us feel totally whole. Absolutely recommended

Grab your tissues. K C Poitras knows how to write a beautiful story with a beautiful storyline. The plot was excellent. I also feel she knew she was playing with my emotions. I had all the feels and sobbed a few times. I love Olivia and Parker. Their back stories make them flawed and I love that. I do not feel there was a third act break up. All the characters were amazing. I just wish we knew what was up with Kayla. Also, if you read this book, prepare to be hungry. Olivia and Parker are both foodies. They also helped complete and heal eachother. This is a story about grace, second chances, family, friends, and found family. It is a sweet and light hearted read which will have you turning page after page. I read it in one afternoon.

Olivia has gotten herself into some trouble by falling into the chaos of being a buy model and needs to take some time to regroup. While on the mend, she meets Parker, she is not ready for a relationship, but he’s her friend’s brother AND new neighbor!
Parker is a professional golfer and immediately is attracted to Liv, what could go wrong?
It’s not your typical love story but it’s a great beach read!
I hope you get a chance to check this one out!

This book was my first read from this author and I know it won't be the last. This book had me hooked from the beginning. The female character was trying to find her spot in the world after her mother died. She struggled but then someone close to her helped her find herself again. She met her next door neighbor who was a professional golfer and trying to get through a rough spot that he hadn't been able to get through for decades. They helped each other heal, and then something happened to the FMC and they had to struggle to come together and heal again. In the end everything was HEA and I loved this love story that felt so real. Great job ma'am! Can't wait for the next one!
