When their parents are discovered brutally murdered in a ditch, Kenya and London are left orphaned, forced to navigate through the unforgiving streets of Detroit. They might be identical twins, but they are as different as night and day. With one fighting relentlessly to make it out of the ghetto, the other eagerly embraces true hood life and everything their deceased parents believed selling drugs, living fast, and even dying young if it means getting paid. Kenya's coldhearted and crazy, just like her Pops. Nothing is off limits, and no one else matters--not even her sister, if she gets in her way. Blood may be thicker than water, but in one sister's eyes, cash is king; it's her only family, and most definitely the head of her conniving household!
I had no idea that I would enjoy listening to this book. I’m not an avid reader of urban fiction but the narrator kept me interested. I listen to the entire book without a break. Now, I’m on wits end for the sequel.
Unfortunately, there was nothing cold-hearted or crazy happening in this book that had so much potential. The introduction of the series spent more than 90% of the book introducing the sisters and laying the groundwork for the series that this installment came out a bit flat. Don't get me wrong what was provided was a solid setup for the most part. The characters were developed. The plot of the series was a good one. Well it is a good one if in the next installment the twins become "coldhearted & crazy'. If that is not the plan, then I'm not sure what the plot is exactly. The story moved extremely slow until the last 30 to 45 minutes, which of course was a cliffhanger. The narrator did a great job.
I didn't know this was the start of a series when I read it (it didn't say (1) anywhere on anything when I bought it, so I wasn't expecting the cliffhanger at the end. It was a pretty lengthy story that I enjoyed, but found myself not understanding Kenya's decisions most of the time. Especially keeping London a secret. Anyway, I guess if the sequel comes out, I'll end up getting it eventually too.
OH MY GOODNESS!!! listening to this book of London and Kenya was a rollercoaster! Between the cheering for London being able to overcome it all to the fussing at Kenya for her various decision! Definitely left with a cliffhanger. ON THE BOOK 2!
This was the first urban fiction book that I have read. I found Kenya and London to be compelling characters and there was a lot of action in this book. Most of the other characters were not well developed. I will read the second book. I hope that Storm didn't get killed, but it seems like he probably did. There were a LOT of spelling and grammatical errors in the book and that did take away from it.
Twins couldn't be more different. Great storyline that will keep you racing to finish, because you know there is a part 2!!! Character development will have you loving them or hating them. Look forward to reading more from this author.
