Ah, now that was a fast-paced story! The danger just keeps coming—fire, flood, kidnapping, murder—and it's quite difficult to sort out who's the real criminal in this one. I love it when mysteries keep me guessing, and I enjoyed all the main characters, from Dallas and Mia down to small Gracie and Juno, search-and-rescue dog extraordinaire.
This is the 1st book I read by Dana Mentink. This book's storyline was okay. I liked the action in this story. I liked Mia's character. I liked Dallas's character. I liked the ending.
I went into this book thinking I was going to like it since I totally fell in love with Dana Mentink's Lost Legacy story. But I found this book to be failing... failing to keep my interest. I struggled to get through this book. I don't know if it was that I did not connect to the main character, Mia or that the story line did not appeal to me. Usually, this type of story line is my cup of tea, but with this book it definitely wasn't. I was relieved when I finally skimmed through the ending and found the resolution.
I gave this book 3 stars since I normally do like this type of story and i can see how others would really enjoy it. And I do not want to bring down the ranking by giving it a 2 stars which is how I really felt about it.
I hope this doesn't keep me for reaching for any Love Inspired Suspense novels in the future.
The sense of urgency as events from her past (and other people's pasts, including the most disturbing pair of villains I've ever seen in a romance novel) catch up to heroine Mia was perfect, and the reflection in nature as the floodwaters rise added to the excitement.
The main characters wrestle with questions of trust, forgiveness, and struggle to understand God's intentions for their lives in a way that was definitely Christian, but never cloying and not so jargon-laden that it felt targeted to a specific "style" of Christianity, but instead very inclusive.
I absolutely LOVED Flood Zone! I was on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next! And it was so romantic and sweet too! The perfect mix of romance and suspense! The characters were believable and lovable and I cannot wait to see what Dana Mentink writes next! :)
Mia is trying to start over after a bad marriage to a criminal and a short jail sentence after stabbing him in self-defense. She has made a couple of new friends, has a job at a clinic and is going to nursing school while raising her 4 year-old daughter, Gracie. Then her friend, Cora, is murdered and she becomes a suspect. She loses her job, is threatened and connections from her ex-husband's past show up. Her remaining friend, Dallas, a local Search and Rescue trainer is also not who he seems.
The plot was a little over the top for a short novel. Mia put independence above safety too many times. I could not understand her at times. The first 2 chapters that tried to reveal the plots of the 2 earlier books in the series did so using these long convoluted sentences. Very awkward. I did like Dallas. He had a tough adolescence in a gang and found it hard to make connections now; it was easier to move on when people got close. He seemed a real character.
I really enjoyed this story! I liked the characters. Don't get me wrong, I love strong women characters, especially single mothers, because they have a huge mountain to climb, but sometimes authors make them TOO stubborn when their safety is at risk along with their child's. That happened a couple times in this book and it left me shaking my head! I know it's to move the plot along but it's not realistic to me! Mia was too headstrong and it was out of character for her not to accept help for the safety of her daughter - it put her in greater danger! Other than that, I really liked the action and the story line! I loved Dallas' character! I could take him home with me!
I liked getting to know both Mia and Dallas better. As a three-book arc, this flowed well. Mia and Dallas' self-doubts made sense, and Juno the dog was a great companion for Dallas. Mia's daughter Gracie was a believable four-year-old. I was glad more time elapsed between books two and three than did between books one and two. It felt more realistic.
Meh. The religion part was forced and didn't seem a natural part of the characters. Both the hero and heroine were given fantastical back stories. And the plot was convoluted with two divergent plots and villains. It was a struggle for me to read.
What an exciting suspense. I loved following Mia and Dallas trying to find out who had killed their friend. There were, of course, lots of twists, and I wasn’t able to figure it all out before the end.
I didn’t love this one. I usually really love this author’s work but this one didn’t hit it out of the park for me. I wasn’t very connected to the story or the characters. I really didn’t like the cop and wondered why he was even in the story.
In the first book of this series, ex-soldier Trey Black is reunited with Sage Harrington -- a journalist he met in Afghanistan when she was on assignment there. Although she suffers from PTSD, Sage is determined to find her missing cousin -- Antonia Verde -- and Trey is determined to protect Sage.
In the second book of the series, Antonia (Verde) is reunited with Reuben Sandoval -- once the love of her life. After he saves her from drowning, he discovers there are killers on the island... are they after him… or Antonia? Even when a tropical storm hits, Reuben is determined to keep Antonia safe.
Whew... exciting stories!
In this third -- and final -- book of the series, Antonia's sister Mia Sandoval is a suspect when her friend is murdered. Dallas Black, who Antonia and Reuben hired to watch over Mia, is doing whatever he can, but things are getting out of hand – fast!
Of course, people are not always who they appear to be… Dana Mentink excels at creating complex, interesting characters – and she does a superb job in the Stormswept series! I have to admit, a few times I doubted those who were good guys and were deceived by a few who were not-so-good.
And I really can’t reveal anything, so when you read it, you’ll enjoy it as much as I did. Believe me, when you get to the end, you’ll either be tickled to have been right – or amazed that you were caught up enough to be surprised.
Either way, it’s a great read!
You can read just one – or all three in sequence – but just do it! Happy Reading!

Even though this book 'time span' was very short. It was a good book. It seemed to have just the right amount of romance, murder, running from police officers, faith and twists to make it good.
Dana Mentink's book Flood Zone number 3 of the Stormswept series was a very good book. Mia Sandoval has a five year old daughter. They are trying to get away from her ex-husband who is in prison. People are trying to get her to tell them where money is they say her ex hid and she knows where it is located. Dallas Black is trying to protect her. But Mia doesn't know that. Lots going on in this book. A terrible flood almost has them killed. A must read.
