Sheri Marcoli (who is 26) lives in a cottage near the woods in Wolf Creek, Pennsylvania. She enjoys spending her days working at her store (the Roadside Stop) and spending time at home with her dog (Highway) and the animals in the forest that come and visit her yard. But lately, she has the feeling that she is being watched. A car has been following her. Her dog is barking at something/someone in the woods. When an attempt is made on Sheri’s life, detective Jimmy Carmani (who is 28) comes to her rescue. He stays over at her house and tries to get her constant protection. Jimmy finds himself attracted to Sheri, but she puts him off, telling him that he isn’t the right guy for her, or is he?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I really liked Jimmy, he was so sweet and nice. He was abandoned as a baby and brought up in the foster care system. I liked how he was so protective of Sheri. (He even slept in a hammock, unknown to Sheri, outside her house so he could protect her from danger!)

Sheri was also abandoned as a child (by her mother, she never knew her father) and brought up by her kind Aunt Liz. (In this book, Aunt Liz is missing and there has been a search going on for her for months.) Sheri was attracted to Jimmy, but she seemed to have some childhood obsession that a tall, blond-haired, blue-eyed prince was going to, somehow, find her in her cottage and sweep her off her feet. Jimmy was dark-haired, dark-eyed, and not very tall, so she knew he wasn’t her prince. She seemed a bit naïve with these thoughts but she finally came to her senses before the book ended regarding Jimmy. Other than that, she was a sweet and likable heroine.

I found this to be a very entertaining read. I couldn’t wait to find out who the culprit was, there were so many characters/suspects to choose from! I also liked the Wolf Creek setting.

(This book is the third and last in a three-book “Men of Wolf Creek” series and can be read as a stand-alone.)

So, I will admit to not having read the first 2 in the series. Although I do not think you necessarily have to.

The main issue I had with this book though was the heroine Sheri! She is 26, apparently, but had the emotional maturity of a 13 year old when it came to her and her "Blonde Prince"

She came across more like an insipid Disney princess, along with her Animal sanctuary etc I actually started to picture her more like this!

It was just too too much how much she went on about this Blonde Prince of hers, that she could just sit and wait for, as he would find her....

"Highway is the main man in my life until my prince comes along...........my golden haired, blue eyed prince who will share this enchanted cottage in the woods with me for the rest of my life"

"I'm willing to wait until fate blows him in my direction"

Her children would all be blonde, like their father

"I don't have to find him. He'll find me when the time is right....You never know who might walk through that door....one of these days it will be the man of my dreams"

The last thing she wanted to do was feel an attraction to a man she was certain wasn't the prince she was waiting for.

If she held on to her dreams of the perfect prince eventually finding her, then she couldn't get any closer to Detective Hottie from Philly.

And on and on and on!

I am surprised she had not just locked herself away in a tower somewhere, as convinced she was this perfect prince would find her, she would have to put no effort in whatsoever, and this mythical prince held all her future happiness on the palm of his princely hands!

Not an awful lot happens for the first 50% other than they thinking "oh no poor Aunt Liz has disappeared oh well, 3 months has gone, all hope is lost, best get on with life" repeatedly giving us the same information about who is who, who is missing and how they are related to whoever. Jimmy thinking to himself about how, he nearly had love at eight years old....about 20 billion times, before he decided to stop being vague and mysterious about it.

Finally, in the last 25% something actually really happens, and then it is all wrapped up very neatly and in a short space of time.

I found Sheri annoying and frustrating and silly, and while I liked Jimmy, there was not enough of him.

I also struggled with how they decide to be friends, and then 2-3 weeks later (and 2-3 weeks after they had properly truly met) Jimmy is confessing his love for her! The 26 year old woman who admitted the first time they talked, she was waiting for a blonde prince, and referred to her house as an enchanted cottage!

This is a mystery of a Aunt Liz who raised her three nieces after their mom abandoned them with her. Now she is missing. The cops have looked into the case and have no leads. In both previous books Sheri's older sisters have found love with two of the detectives working the case.

This is the third and last book of the series. I like that it is only three books to the series. So I can remember them. I guessed one of the twists but was surprised at the rest. Their is one love scene I skipped over. I like the characters.

Sheri is waiting for her prince. She knows he will be tall and blond hair. Sheri owns her own business sell Amish goods to tourists. She sells quilts, furniture, cheeses and other goods. Sheri is quiet in a group. She lives alone on five acres of woods. She has a well trained dog named Highway.

Jimmy Carmani is the third detective. He is short with dark hair. He is called to go to Sheri's house that she has a gun on someone. Sheri has no shooting signs all around her property. When local hunter is hunting she gets her shotgun out. Jimmy has no family and is from the big city.

Someone is following Sheri home from work. Her dog is barking and does not bark at animals. Sheri calls Jimmy out. While he is their checking out her place they agree to hang out sometimes as friends. Since his two co-workers have found love with Sheri's sisters.

Now someone is after Sheri.

This is a fast read. We find out who took Liz and why. We know a little about Liz from the previous two stories.

The setting is small town thirty miles from Hershey Pennsylvania. Has a Amish community.

I was given this ebook to read and in return agreed to give honest review of it

I would have given this a higher rating as the plot was great, but the h really annoyed me! She constantly whined about her blond haired blue eyed prince and totally dismissed the lovely H who was in front of her! By the end she acknowledged this but it still didn't make up for her immaturity throughout the rest of the book. A shame...

Good conclusion to the series. Sheri's aunt is still missing and everyone is starting to lose hope that they will find her. When Sheri gets the feeling that she's being watched and then is attacked, Jimmy makes it his job to be sure she's safe. He doesn't mind staying close to her as he's been drawn to her for several months.

I liked Jimmy a lot. He had a rough childhood growing up in foster care and always longing for love and a family of his own. He has come to the conclusion that he will never have it and devotes himself to his work instead. Working on the case of the missing aunt brings him into frequent contact with Sheri. Feeling that he's not really cut out for a relationship he offers her his friendship but soon discovers that he really wants more. By this time, though, he's heard all about her dream of the blond haired and blue eyed prince that she is looking for. I really felt bad for him with the way that he was falling so hard for Sheri and yet had to listen to her go on about the dream prince of hers. I thought he was a real sweetheart of a guy. He is there for her when she's scared. When she's attacked he takes care of her, sensing what she needs almost before she knows herself. I loved that he had the courage to tell her his feelings, and felt so bad for him when she rejected his claims of love.

Sheri irritated me through most of the book. She was so fixated on her childhood dream of her blue eyed blond prince who would simply show up out of the blue and sweep her off her feet. When she started having problems she had no trouble accepting help from Jimmy. She accepted his offer of friendship and enjoyed being with him, but couldn't see past her dream to the terrific man that he was. She was attracted to him but fought it because he didn't fit her ideal. I really hated the way that every time they gave in to their attraction she reiterated that he was all wrong for her. I really wanted to smack her when she rejected his profession of love. It took several people telling her what an unrealistic jerk she was being, then nearly dying for her to accept what her feelings really were.

I enjoyed the suspense part of the book quite a lot. In the previous books we'd get brief glimpses of what Liz was going through and the occasional glimpse into her captor's mind. As things started to escalate, the danger that both Liz and Sheri were in got worse. I could feel the detectives' frustration over the lack of clues and their worry as time went on with no progress. There were several possibilities of who it could be and I never got a sense of who it was until the end.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a good conclusion to the series. The first two books left us is suspense. I've always hated cliffhangers. I'm glad to see this book tied the stories together, and left no unanswered questions.

Sheri met Jimmy when Sheri, and her two sisters reported her Aunt missing. Aunt Liz was a mother figure to the three girls. She disappeared without trace. Sheri was chased through the woods by a man wearing a ski mask, and her dog Highway was attacked. Jimmy made it his job to protect her. He didn't mind. He was attracted to her since they met the first time. I loved how the two was lonely, and agreed to be friends, and hang out as friends. It was a joy to see the friendship grow into something more.
Jimmy's story of his life really touched my heart. His mother just left him as a infant. He was placed in the foster care system. When he got close to a family, feeling love for the first time, he was excited about being adopted. Before he could be adopted his soon to be adopted parent was hit by a drunk driver, and killed. This left Jimmy as a mad, and upset little boy. After that it was hard to place him. With everything he went through he grew up to be a fine young man, and a good police detective.

The police detectives were working hard to find the missing aunt, and also working hard to find who was after Sheri. The author did a good job with the suspense. She gave us a lot of people to choose from, on who the bad guy could be. I didn't know who the villain was, until I read it in the book. Just too many people to guess from. They all had me wondering if they could be the one.
Sheri had always wanted a prince, and in her mind he should have blond hair, and blue eyes. I'm thankful throughout the story that vision changed, and she let her heart fall in love with Jimmy. Great book, and great ending to a 3 book series.

The mystery is well done by providing several clues and still I don’t think you will guess it. I know I didn’t.
The author provides closure with the disappearance of Aunt Liz. You will get to revisit Sheri’s sisters, Roxy and Marlene and a surprise visitor. Lone Wolf Standing delivers romance and mystery.

This was an interesting end to a series I would have never considered reading if I hadn't needed some of the books for a challenge. But, once I fell down the Carla Cassidy rabbit hole, I ended up finishing two of her Harliquien series'!

I realize that these books were written almost a decade ago, which brings me to my one "complaint"? I was prepared for the "cookie-cutter" storyline but what I wasn't prepared for was the fact that the women were strong and courageous, but they still needed a man to save them... It is amazing what a difference ten years can make in the world of fiction! Now, the women are saving the men right back! We rock! LOL!!!

Dramatic and shocking is about the only way to describe this book. Sheri is the odd sister out as both of her sisters have found love, and she's still waiting for her Prince Charming. When she starts being followed she calls Detective Jimmy Carmani. When her stalker is confronted the Marcoli girls are in for a HUGE shock! The kidnapper is revealed and Aunt Liz's fate is revealed but NOT before the kidnapper claims another victim. A GREAT trilogy!

The three detectives had the most unsexy names-Jimmy, Steve, and Frank, seriously?-and came off quite incompetent in this one. And Sheri's constant yacking about her dream "blond-haired, blue-eyed, six-foot prince" was ridiculous and downright irritating. Not to mention insulting. What was so wrong with Jimmy being dark-haired, not blue-eyed and 5'10"? 5'10" is not even short, jes$#% chr#@$t! The only thing really wrong with Jimmy was his name, but whatever. Jimmy deserved better.

This is my first read from Carla Cassidy and was thoroughly enjoyable. I love romantic suspense and this book definitely has that. What I really liked was that Jimmy and Sheri started out as friends first and gradually developed feelings for one another. I really appreciated that because it made the romance that blossomed between the two believable. Many romance books these days tend to speed up the romance and throw in a lot of sexual tension that has an almost crude feel to it and I’m so glad the author went in the opposite direction. The romance was tastefully done.

One thing that did bug me was that Sheri had high expectations of her "Mr. Right" being a prince charming type with blond hair, blue eyes and a list of other requirements. It wasn’t that she had a vision of who she wanted to sweep her off her feet, it was the fact that when Jimmy confessed he was in love with her, Sheri quickly told him he was mistaken and that he was all wrong for her and booted him out of her house and her life. It was really cute how things worked out in the end but I was just a little disappointed that Sheri could be such a flake.

The mystery was stellar. I love reading romantic suspense because I love piecing together the puzzle along with the characters. I usually make several guesses and change my mind about the “whodunit” and in most cases I’m usually wrong, as I was in this instance. I was totally fooled. The plot was completely entertaining and the love story was endearing. I’m looking forward to reading more from this author.

Lone Wolf Standing by Carla Cassidy is one of the Men of Wolf Creek series. It is the romantic suspense conclusion to the series.
Sheri Marcoli is waiting for her prince to come rescue her. Until then, she will run her store, feed the wild animals, and live happily in her cottage with her dog Highway. She and her sisters are still waiting word of their missing Aunt Liz who disappeared four months ago without a trace. One day, Sheri is convinced someone is following her home. She calls on her friend Detective Jimmy Carmani for help. Little does she know the danger she is in.
Jimmy Carmani has spent his life alone and has done alright. He has a career he loves and at which he excels. Now if he and the other detectives can find out what happened to Agnes Wilson and Liz Marcoli, things would be great. That is until the day Sheri calls on him for help. Can he help her and keep her safe or is she doomed to be kidnapped too?
The characters are so alive in this book and series. As you read, you come to know them and either like them or dislike them. The plot is intricate and suspenseful. This is a great summer read.

I was eagerly awaiting this conclusion to the "Men of Wolf Creek" series, and Ms. Cassidy did not disappoint. I loved the protagonist, Sheri Marcoli, more than I did her sisters, who were the two protagonists in the first two books of the series. And Jimmy Carmani, the handsome young Italian detective who wants to protect her from the person who had tried to capture her, is a delight. I love all of their interactions, and how sweet he was with her.
In my opinion, this is the best of the Wolf Creek books, and also one of the better romances I've read lately. The dialogue seemed very real, and the action realistic. The author also managed to keep me from guessing who the overall culprit was - I have to say, I didn't suspect the person it turned out to be.
Great story. I hope to read more from Ms. Cassidy in the future.

Oh thank God...we finally find Aunt Liz and find out WHY she was taken. It's been driving me BATTY waiting to find out. The reasoning behind it was a little weak (IMO), but I had no trouble accepting it and rooting for Sheri and Jimmy all the way.

Sheri - so much an animal love. I loved her relationship with her dog and how protective she is of all the animals on her land. I loved seeing her threaten a potential poacher with a rifle. She was great. I loved seeing her move beyond her dreams/hopes of a tall, blond prince and see the gem she had in Jimmy.

Jimmy - he doesn't have the same angsty background as the other two heroes in this series, but that didn't bother me at all. He's a good man who is who he is and screw anyone (politely) who doesn't feel the same way.

I loved seeing these two get together and finally bring down the madman who took Liz.

In this conclusion of Carla Cassidy's Men of Wolf Creek series, the underlying mystery continues, and the tying up of all the loose ends is quite satisfactory. I don't think that this book stands alone well, because of spoilers that are revealed in the course of the story, you really need to have read the series in order. The series is good, however, with well written suspense and a good plot. The characters are compelling, ( give them time, they'll grow on you) and the pacing quite even. I liked that Ms. Cassidy added some twists to the story and didn't telegraph the occurrences.

Honestly it was nothing special. The heroine was annoying most of the time and found her to be living in another time and world compared to the rest of the people in the story.
Nothing stood out. The writing was fine, editing was fine just blah.

Hart pounding romance that will have you on edge because you won't believe what happens at the end. A story that has one detective wanting love but don't know what's in store for him and the youngest sister of two older ones is looking for her Prince Charming and not seeing what is right in front of her the handsome LONE WOLF DETECTIVE of her dreams.
