Recruited for a top secret mission, elite sniper Sergeant Cara Hanson is determined to prove herself—as a female sharpshooter—to her commanding officer. But when the assignment goes horribly wrong, Captain Dean McGovern takes their team into hiding in a remote Wyoming cabin. Both fiercely protective, Cara and Dean work overtime to figure out who's leaving notes and taking shots at them. Cara tries hard to resist the more-than-professional feelings she's developing for Dean…and when their lives are on the line, it'll take the soldier in her to keep them both alive.
Dean and Cara met and within milliseconds he was having all these protective overloads and caring for her like they had been friends for decades and starts thinking all these things and having all these protective romantic thoughts after meeting her FIVE SECONDS AGO. The man is a friggin Green Beret but the second a woman steps into the equation he turns into a distracted toddler. As for Cara, she was over dramatic and unrelatable.
I had expected this to be at least a four star read, especially since I love a good sniper story. But this was flat out flavorless read.
As someone who loves guns and is a semi decent sniper (at least I was years ago) I was pretty sure that I could hit the things Cara was hitting, and do it much better. They talked her up so much but the time’s she actually shot on page weren’t even difficult.
And her poison ivy allergy? COME ON, you know the Army would have found out about it from her medical records.
DNF - 2 stars
UTTERLY FLAVORLESS
Also I skimmed to see what actually happened and EWW EWW EWW EWW what the crap was that epilogue?! like okay yay they get married whatever but the fact she’s like “I wanna be in my gillie suit” and he randomly kissed her nose and goes “Let’s roll Sergeant.” FRIGGIN EWWW what the crap people where are the tears, the romantic proclamati- what nvm those happened in the first three seconds after he met her. My bad.
This book would make the perfect cheesy Hallmark movie. I like cheesy Hallmark movies. No thinking, just sappy story lines. Not as exciting to read as it might have been as a movie.
This is the first book by Elisabeth Rees that I have read, but I really enjoyed it and found the author's syntax and writing style very good. I saw that she is from and lives in Wales so I wasn't sure what to expect from her writing style or use of the English language, but this lady has both mastered. I liked the plot and the characters of the story. I also liked the non-traditional role of the heroine and found her actions to be quite believable. The storyline moves quickly, and the book provides a good escape after a trying day.
This was included in a bundle I read for another story. The religion was worked into the story with clues in the form of bible verses. The hero grows from not trusting a female in the military to understanding they work well as a team. I wouldn't go out of my way for another book by the author (christian romance isn't my usual choice), but for people who like the genre, I think this author would be a winner.
This book had me on my toes wondering what was going to happen but I always had an idea about who was behind the whole setup and chasing them. Loved the two main characters! The chemistry was adorable!
This is the 2nd book I read by Elisabeth Rees. I liked the Christian theme in this story. I liked Cara's profession because it's rare. I'm sorry I couldn't get into the storyline.
Spectacular debut novel! I am amazed that a Welsh author was able to get into the heart and mind of U.S. military personnel but Rees does an awesome job (from this Canadian amateur's perspective anyway. LOL)
Adore this fresh angle for a Love Inspired Suspense plot. Hello -- female sniper?! Cara is tough as nails, determined to prove she's just as good, if not better, than any male soldier. She's strong and stubborn, intent on correcting a perceived mistake she made in her youth. Her DNA screams protector and that's a refreshing trait switch from hero to heroine.
Problem is Dean has that same protect-at-all-cost DNA marker -- especially where women are concerned. He grapples with accepting Cara has an equal team member even as he reluctantly admires her expertise and professionalism. What a dynamic way to mess with a burgeoning romance.
Mix in plenty of taut action, some hair-raising scenes and a tense plot steeped in betrayal and loss and you get a dynamic romantic suspense.

I really liked this book. The female lead as a sniper-wow-and then she gets involved with a Special Forces man. Great action, nearly realistic plot, tension, suspense and a little romance what else could you ask for.
"The independent and fiercely protective leads exemplify the best the military has to offer. Cara’s strong trust in God is encouraging" (RT Book Reviews). 4 stars
