In the fifth book in this series, Lt. Dekker gets an advance warning that he might be investigating a couple of murders when two people turn up missing after a high school reunion. When those bodies do indeed turn up, the lieutenant and his sergeant sidekick go to work. They start by interviewing everyone who attended that high school reunion. In their favor is the fact that not a lot of people attended the reunion, but it doesn’t help them any when they find out that everyone hated one of the victims, but none of them appear guilty of murder.
This was one of the funniest mysteries that I have read. This was a book about a couple that was murdered at a High School reunion in a very small town. The two detectives that investigated are a very colorful couple. It might have taken them a while, but in their round about way, they discovered who murdered the two people. I laughed a lot throughout this book. It was funny, but it was also a murder mystery. I thought t was a very enjoyable book. Not your normal gruesome book. I was surprised at who done it. I really thought it was going to be someone else. I liked the book.
I'm reading this series in order and am enjoying the character development, which gets better with each book. The mystery is compelling and the story is in keeping with the Christian faith.
Wonderful book. I loved it. I love the 2 main characters & the neighbor lol I highly recommend anyone who likes mysteries read it especially cozy mystery readers. I will read any of his books especially in this series.
I'm reading the Cy and Lou books in order and I liked several things about this book. First, I love that Cy is finally changing his ways. I'm working on that myself and find it encouraging. Next, I cheered out loud at the turn of events with Cy's horrendously annoying neighbor. Finally, I like the ending of this one, hinted at early on with a reference to "Murder on the Orient Express." Well done and I look forward to reading the next one.
Cy and Lou, now partially retired, are called into action when two people who attended the county high school reunion are found in the school cafeteria walk-in freezer after being missing for a couple of weeks.
Good things: Cy is now on a healthy eating and exercising program. There is less filler here and more investigating.
Not-so-good things: Cy spends a lot of time talking about eyeing good looking "babes". The women around Cy and Lou are routinely referred to as girls. Cy continues to hate his next door neighbor and talks about how ugly she is. No one Cy and Lou interview shows the slightest shock or regret at learning two people they grew up with are now dead. The dialog is clunky at times and the author is trying too hard to be funny.
I'm not sure what to think about it things: Cy has gone from not loving anyone except his wife who died years ago to falling for the "love of his life" after about thirty seconds. I found this particularly jarring. Not that a widower can't love again, but after several books describing how he'll never love anyone else again, he falls in love after one date.
The Dekker Cozy Mystery series is completely clean and lighthearted. If you're looking to while away a few hours, look no further.
Lt. Cy Dekker & his partner Sgt Lou Murdock are semi retried from the Hilldale Police Department. They only work if there's a murder.
Well at a 20 year reunion at the high school two people go missing. One is Jimmy Conkwright who they didn't think would come to the reunion. The other is a married woman, Betty Gail Spencer.
It's not longer before they find their bodies in a freezer in the kitchen at the school. Locked with paddlock.
Well they start their investigation. Lou usually receives clues from God, which they to determine it means.
There many characters in this book you need to read it
I've read many of the books in this series and enjoyed all them.
Good ole boys trusting God to help them solve a murder!
This novel started very unexpectedly with an over weight detective having to lose weight to stay on the force. Then it picks up with a great friendship between two detectives who rely on God's clues to solve this mystery. Although I solved it before they did, this was a delightful funny and sometimes sad story. These two detectives have a great sense of friendship and share many same interests including a life changing diet. The two biggest likes they had were a relationship with God, and a hobby of reading great mystery books together. They also enjoyed their sweethearts! I enjoyed this novel in so many ways. A really good read!
This was the 3rd book in the series that I read and my least favorite. The corn was too thick. The characters that lived outside the city limits were caricatures of "country hick". The only reason I have read more than the first book is I bought 4 of the books for free through Amazon deals before I read any. I have one more in the series, which I will read simply because they are quick reads and the first 2 were decent, but I won't get more.
When I first started reading this book it seems like just two old detectives hanging on to past glory. It didn’t take long until I was laughing my head off; there are so many funny passages, perhaps it only hit me wrong but I just laughed and laughed. Trying to figure out who did the murder of two people that nobody liked was interesting and the detectives did a good job. There’s a nice little twist at the end —read it and get ready to laugh.
Great combination of mystery, humor and good living
I really liked this Decker Cozy mystery. It didn’t waste a lot of time filling in about the past, so it can stand alone even though it is one of several in a series. I love the characters in this story. They are the kind of people who make life interesting. And as usual, Steve Demaree knit together a story that’s both entertaining and intriguing. A very pleasant read.
Unique detectives working through the evidence to solve the crime.
The story follows 2 detectives talking to all the people at the reunion to figure out who the murderer was. Not everything happened as the attendees said it did making it hard to solve the case. There's just enough about the detectives' daily routines and activities to add a little life and humor to the story. The ending is unexpected.
Another humorous Cy and Lou murder mystery with a couple of new wrinkles... Cy's weight tops out at 311 pounds and he's got to lose weight our get canned. Also, he's developing a love interest with one of those Jennifer's that keep coming to his mind... All of the banter between the two detectives and others on the police force will keep you grinning and constantly turning the pages! RECOMMENDED
This is the 5th in the series. The main characters are Cy and Lou, homicide police . They are told 2 people are missing since a school reunion . They take a quick look and then tell the guys to call them if they find any bodies. It is a few weeks later before they find the bodies and then their job begins. They have a heck of a times figuring this one out. It will keep you guessing.
While I enjoyed reading the book, I did not find it to measure up to most other mysteries I have read. I felt the author threw in the mentions of doing devotions to appeal to a certain readership. There was no urgency to solve the mystery; thus Sy and Lou were able to indulge in the Wii and their diets.
I'd read another of the books when I want something light and easy to read.
This was my first time reading a book from this series. While it kept my attention and I did finish it I wanted more. If you are looking for a murder mystery to really dig into and work alongside the detectives to solve the crime this isn’t the book for you. It’s one of those “it is what it is books.”
A laugh out loud murder mystery with a surprise ending!
Demaree has done it again! A cozy murder mystery but this one has a very interesting ending. I never read cozy mysteries until I read the first book in this series so now I'm hooked! Give this author a read and see if you get hooked too!
I have always enjoyed his books, the plot and characters of Cy and Lou. The banter between them and the jokes with Lt.Dekker. I enjoyed the first part of this story, then I got lost of what was going on, was it real or what. Will look for more by him, for do think the series is very good.
Way too much telling in this story. I only kept reading because I wanted to know whodunit. The ending was a huge disappointment. Sorry, this may appeal to some but despite the humorous bits thrown in I couldn't get into it.
Humor, murder, and two unforgettable detectives made for an amazing journey into trying to solve the whodunit. The characters were so believable, with glass that one could relate to and relationships that were relatable to all. Such an enjoyable book.
I always enjoy reading books in the Lt. Deckker series, and this book is no exception. This book is filled with humorous quips from Cy and Lou as well as interesting characters and an unexpected outcome. I highly recommend it to other mystery lovers.
I really enjoyed this book, the author is new to me but I love a cozy mystery. This one is great because it has really funny moments in it from the start and the characters are really well written. You won't be disappointed with this book.
I almost quit in the first quarter. The middle was better, not great but bearable. The end was written by a teenage girl. Unless you paid for this book or extremely bored, which I was.
This book just didn't hold my interest so I finally just gave it up. There were so many irrelevant details it just confusing. And the writer was trying to write with a dry sense of humor but it was overdone so it was too much and just not funny.
2 retired cops solve mystery of death of bad boy Jimmy and bad girl Sarah at the high school reunion - found dead in high school freezer. Some good message about healthy living and devotionals and prayer with God. The 2 cops are like brothers and love to read a good mystery too.
Steve has a very unique writing style and seems to live sarcasm. I think this is my favorite Dekker book so far. Glad he's turned health-conscious and glad the neighbor got what was coming to her.
I enjoy his cozy mysteries and was thrilled to find them on Kindle Unlimited! Maybe a little bit too much print dedicated to what Cy and Lou are or aren't eating, but the mystery was good and kept me guessing until the end!
This book was pretty entertaining. Although I didn't think it was much of a mystery and they didn't solve the case. The banter between the two main characters was sometimes distracting but amusing.
