Twist is embroiled in yet another fabulous adventure in this sequel to Clockwork Twist, Waking. This time, Myra, the clockwork princess, is being hunted by a faction of technology thieves, known as the Rooks, who have their own reasons for collecting her. Twist and Jonas realize that their only hope of saving her is to convince the Rooks that she is of no worldly use to them.

The details in this story are so palpable, I could almost smell the Shawarma. The many lusciously described, exotic places Twist and his friends find themselves in made me want for nothing more than to linger within the pages of this book. I literally could not put this book down.

Whether you're a fan of the Steampunk genre, or you're just looking for a really good read, you'll be delighted with captivating adventure novel.

A fun sequel. Lots of action as the chase begins for Jonas, Twist and Myra in Bombay. They excape the Rooks ( bad guys who want to steal Myra the clockwork Princess). they take a super speedy ship ( this is Steampunk of course) to the port of Suez. There's a big chase and a rescue in the desert ( On top of and underneath!). They get a mostly normal train to Cairo where they catch a hot air balloon with a full size English house underneath! In Constantinople Jonas, Twist, and Myra get on the Orient Express bound for Paris. Since this is Steampunk the train travels on a special high speed rail and goes 200 miles an hour. On the train they are surprised to meet Idris the djinn who was a villain in the last book. I think I've told enough! Great fun read.

This one is every bit as captivating as book one. Jonas, Twist, and Myra each have their own quirky personalities, and they are great friends. Myra's childlike innocence and Twist's ignorance of the world are nicely offset against Jonas, who is world-wise and a bit of a rascal.

In this one, the trio is hunted by a group who wants to use Twist and Myra to find other clockwork people. I like the way the 'bad guys' are painted in this. They are actually quite empathetic even though you never stop rooting for Twist!

The storytelling is engaging from beginning to end, and the steampunk world is beautifully laid out. I'm so glad I don't have to wait a full year for book three!

Book 2 continues where we left off with Twist and Jonas trying to keep the princess safe but their visit in Bombay is cut short when they find out that the Rooks are searching for them. These are a group of people set on stealing anything of interest technologically so obviously Myra is topping their list being one of a kind. Or is she? They flee Bombay on their way to Europe, namely to get to Paris where an inventor who also works with the rooks might help them by vouching for the princess and saying she was no danger to anyone. They travel across the Arabian sea, the black sea, the Suez canal onto Cairo and then to Paris. On the way they encounter people who do their best to aid them when the Princess is stolen from them by the cyphers, as well as on their travels by giving them a lift in the most eccentric of airships ever. Twist gets to taste a bit of England during this trip but was not sure he still liked what he experienced. The new allies are an inventor and a magician and an English captain but even with all their allies help it is still up to Twist and Jonas to keep Myra safe and Twist would do anything for the first two friends he ever had in his life and who had changed his life forever. He didn't know whether if he ever returned to England he would be happy to live under a gloomy, grey and rainy sky in his room all by himself, eating bland English food after all the tastes he had experienced and to his great surprise enjoyed. On the Orient Express they are joined by the djinn who keeps Myra entertained by creating creatures for her which are not appreciated by the staff of the train at all and in Paris things really heat up and Twist is once again in trouble, big trouble but Jonas comes to his rescue yet again. These two have become inseparable. Can Twist keep his secret from Aden, head of the Rooks without endangering all their lives especially Myra's? Wow onto book 3 and I cannot wait to continue reading this very enthralling steampunk series.

This is the second in this 12 book series. I actually read it some time ago but since I've just acquired the rest of the series I started again. Twist, the man of the title, is a strange little man with a quiet voice who lived a solitary life in his small London house with his many clocks, the sound of which, as we as the seemingly endless rain, are the only sounds in his life, with which he is perfectly content. He avoids people, except for those who come to him to have their clocks and watches repaired. Also, if ever someone touches him, he sees and feels that person's life and emotions. In book 1, Waking, he is visited by a woman who tells him that the mythical clockwork Princess, that was not to exist, in Nepal and asked him to come and fix her. He goes, without hesitation in their airship - this is an alternative Victorian time when airships and magical beings are normal. Twist meets a man named Jonas who also has a problematic sight - he can't look directly at anyone with having a similar experience to Twist, except that he sees their future. He and twist have a connection and find that each other are the only people Twist can touch and Jonas can look out without a problem. They find the Clockwork Princess and Twist repairs her in book 1 waking, but there are many adventures, one after the other, that Twist could never have imagined in his previous, uneventful life. I'm looking forward to reading all of this series and the adventures and danger that await Twist, His Clockwork Princes and Jonas

Mostly an improvement on the first, largely as the biggest issue - the crew of the Vimana v Jonas - wasn't a large feature. Certain elements of the writing which I found annoying like "pure" and "total" to describe emotions present but fewer instances.
The character of Arabel has settled into just being moderately irrationally angry with her brother and jealous, which is a shame given where she started.

An continuation of book one regarding the clockwork princess and the further adventures of Twist and Jonas...and all of the other characters in this book. I am enjoying continuing on with the story. I am glad I have the whole series and for free no less!

Meh

The writer seems limited for such an expansive genre. If I read one more description of the two young men looking at each other I was going to gag.

Comfortable

A bit more polished than the first in the series. Perhaps a little lost in details here and there, but a pleasant read
