Three Rivers Ranch #4

Fourth and Long

Rate this book
Can one summer together make up for eight years of separation?

Commander Brett Murphy left his family’s construction firm in Oklahoma City for a life of hard work at Three Rivers Ranch. Alone, without a wife and kids, Brett needs the camaraderie he enjoyed while serving overseas with his Army buddies, Squire Ackerman and Peter Marshall.

What Brett doesn’t need is the reappearance of his ex-wife. Fiery Kate Donnely has come to Three Rivers to confess to Brett that they’re still married, and oh, he has a seven-year-old son she never told him about. At least not in letters she mailed.

Eight years ago, Kate left Oklahoma City only weeks after Brett’s first deployment, shamed because of her bad choices and the unborn child of a man she’d already asked for a divorce. She needs him to sign the papers now or she can’t have access to her hefty inheritance. But Brett absolutely does not want Kate to take his son away from him again.

They strike a deal: She’ll stay at Three Rivers for the summer so Brett can have the opportunity to get to know his son. How far will they have to go and how much will they have to forgive in order to become a family?

I love Liz Isaacson, her novels are truly wonderful! It is hard to find an author who can distinguish between a Christian Romance Novel and a Contemporary Romance Novel, but Ms. Isaacson does it and she does it well! I highly recommend every novel that I have read, and I hope that every novel I plan to read in the future is of the same quality!

"Fourth and Long" is a beautiful story about second chances, even when they aren't the easiest thing to come by. Brett and Kate where married for only a short time before he was shipped out for a tour in Iraq, but what he didn't know was that even though Kate had asked for a divorce two months into his tour- it was never finalized. Kate found out she was pregnant and now she is back, multiple years later, to finally tell Brett the truth. Is it too late?

I recommend this ten novel series, each one is better than the last. Very well written, it's like a story coming off the pages before your very eyes.

Fourth and Long is a Christian Romance and the theme will pull at your heartstrings. Brett and Kate were married, and he went off to perform his obligation in the military. While he is gone, she asks for a divorce. The story starts off with Kate and her son on their way to California. Brett is back from overseas and working at a ranch. Little does he know that he has a seven-year-old son until Kate arrives to have him sign divorce papers and have him meet his son. There is one little catch. Kate will inherit her mother's estate if she can prove she is divorced or that she has a happy marriage to Brett. What do you think will happen when he meets his son? The letters that were inserted didn't always relate to the chapters, but they did relate to the story. The story moved a little slow in places, and I found myself skimming to a section that was more interesting. The author offers the reader a beautiful ending. 3.5 Stars

While I liked reading more about the folks at Three Rivers Ranch, and while I liked Reid and Brett's characters a lot (but was mainly frustrated with Kate), I really did NOT like the periodic insertion of the letters from the past to tell Brett and Katie's story, and that accounts for my giving this three stars instead of more. Perhaps one reason was that the letters were not contemporaneous with what was going on in the rest of the story (yes, they related to the story but no, they were not written as the story went along), but probably it was mainly because I dislike that writing device.

This is my favorite of the series so far!

I loved reading the letters between Brett and Kate.

The ending felt rushed and not what I expected but I liked the story too much let it bother me too much.

Ruined by constant insertions of letters/emails by H & h written to each other that were never sent, so they are pointless filler, and I started skipping them early on! Book would have been about 100 pgs. shorter without them!

Plus heroine is a detestable SKANK....who was with another man as soon as her husband (of only a few months) was deployed, but this author wants us to believe that she really loved her husband!!!!!!!

Really strong emotional story with outstanding characters. Glad I found this series. The narrator is very good as well. Happy reading/listening!

The letters between the characters are beautiful and make the whole relationship believable given the level of anger and distrust between them. Another lovely story where real people make real mistakes and have to find real life solutions.

Overall this was a good read. Of course it was crappy what Kate did. Also her intentions for coming back were crappy too. Thankfully she allowed Brett some time to be a father to their son. I was happy that this time around they got to be happy.

This definitely was not my favorite in this series. It was light, not intense; but compelling none the less. It took awhile to get a glimpse of who these two characters might really be. I feel the readers could have been shown much more depth and growth in the characters and an HEA that didn't arrive so abruptly.

Accolades: 1) Clean 2) Able to stand on its own 3) Forgiveness

However, it brings to light some of the sacrifices our soliders and their families endure to ensure our freedom. I praise God for these souls!

Eight years is a long time. Fourth and Long is a sweet romance about a soldier who’s wife comes back to him after eight years with a son he didn’t know he had. That’s a lot to forgive, and it’s hard to believe it took her that long to reach out. Plus her actions show that deep down she hasn’t changed all that much in those St years. It’s a pleasant story as long as you can get past the selfishness of the wife.

I listened to this book as part of the audiobook box set. The narrator is well suited to the story and does a nice job bringing the book to life.

Brett had no idea his life was about to change. While working with the horses at the ranch he finally felt that was the place for him.
Kate drive to the ranch and found Brett. Telling him he had a 8 year old son was not easy but he had a right to know. Brett was angry and trying to forgive Kate. Then he found out they were still married They both asked God a question to have different ideas as to what the answer was

Review:
Loving these husband and wife. Though they are separated for eight years but finally she decided to tell him that he had a son that she had kept away from him for 8 years but because of the passing of her mom and grandmother in order to get her inheritance she will need to either have a divorce or prove that she and Brett are together in love with each other. Brett was angry at first but feelings came back though he tried so hard to forget her and didn't know that she didn't hand in the divorce papers so they are still legally married. Love the moments with their 8 year old son, Reid. And love that they continue to write letters to each other though the never sent it to each other.(do they get to read it?Read then you will find out) Though they both still love each other just that she feels that she can’t forgive herself and love that her new found friend, Tom also helps her though like both of them dare each other for her she needs to forgive herself while for Tom is to go and ask a woman out on a date. The people around them like Pete and Chelsea also did help out in their lives and also Kelly and Squire too.

Love that Kate took a step to go to church and realised God is speaking to her through the pastor. And love that she is very worried for him and also waited for him because he was called to war again and she rely on God and pray for protection. This book made me smile, swoon and cry.

P.S I wish that my other half (will meet him one day) and I will write each other letters just like old times. It sweeter and romantic hahaha… well a girl can dream right.

This is written by Elana Johnson but under the name of Liz Isaacson. And this is the 3rd book of the Three Rivers Ranch Romance series.

Brett Murphy works on Three River Ranch. He is working with a man named Pete who he served in the military with. Pete and his wife run a program that helps wounded vets and special needs children by using horses as a way to reach people . Brett works wherever he is needed. Brett has been working there since he got out of active duty. He is still in the reserves and may be called up at any time but until then he works and lives on the ranch. One day while working on the ranch Brett comes face to face with his estranged ex wife Kate. Kate is at the ranch to tell Brett that they are still married and that he has a son. Brett has no idea whatsoever. Kate and Brett have a seven year old son named Reid. How will Brett deal with this news? Kate Donnely has come all the way to Three river ranch to tell her husband that they have a seven year old son and that they are still married . Kate has to do this because it was part of her late mom's will. She wont inherit anything till she does. Kate wants to get her divorce and move to California and be a nurse. she went to school and raised her son by herself while her and Brett have be separated. She kept Reid hidden all this time and she doesn't want Brett to take him from her. They haven't seen each other in eight years. How will Brett take the news about Reid? Will he give Kate a divorce or will he fight her? This is book three in the Three river ranch series . It can be read as a stand along but there are characters that appeared in the previous book. This is a story about second chances and rekindling a marriage. I like this one but I did like the previous one better. The characters were always true to their marriage but Brett though he was divorced and Kate was trying to move on. I enjoyed the ending and will read others in the series.

Story: 5 stars

*spoiler alert*
I was gifted this audiobook, this review is my honest opinion.

Brett and Kate are in a complex situation because of Kate's lies. I'm not a fan of books where there is lying, but since Kate is now trying to come clean and I didn't need to live through her years of lying, I'm ok with the book. Kate's lies have gone on for 8 years, and now she has to woman-up and face them. Brett learns he has a 7-year-old son that he never knew of and thought he was divorced from Kate. He is pretty shocked and angry when Kate shows up with Reid, their son.

The thing I loved about this book were the letters each of them wrote to the other without sending them. His on email, hers on paper. The letters softened what might have felt like a rough book. The letters tell us readers that these two have been constant to one another and still love one another and give us hope that they'll work things out.

Narration: 4 stars

Ms. Doughty does a very good job with southern accents, although in this book, Reid is 'starting to talk like a cowboy' and I couldn't tell the difference between her southern accent and her cowboy accent. This might be because I'm from the western US and the subtle differences are lost on my ears. Either way, it's a lovely accent and really nice to listen to. She reads at a good pace, her men's voices sound like men and she has good expression. I'd gladly listen to her narrate again!

I don't quite understand why the book is titled, "Fourth and Long" but I enjoyed this book thoroughly. It is about the power of forgiveness. It is about forgiving others and most importantly it is about forgiving oneself. Forgiving oneself is probably the hardest thing of all to do. Even harder than forgiving someone else.

Brett is a military commander. It doesn't say what his rank is because Commander isn't a rank its a position. It tells that he had been wounded during his earlier deployments serving in tank corps. He is the one responsible for saving Squire Ackerman and Peter Marshall.

He thought his wife, Kate had left him and divorced him. However she had not divorced him and he knew nothing of a son. Kate has come to introduce his son to him. She also has other issues she is dealing with. She has never stopped loving him. Nor has he ever stopped loving her.

They had written all kinds of love letters to one another and yet had not sent them; but kept them.

It is a wonderful book. I enjoy how the other characters continue on and how they are intertwined and their stories continue on as well. I will be starting the next book in the series soon.

As a veteran myself I appreciate very much this series of books by this author. I also like how she weaves faith and hope into her stories. I also like the strong bond she creates between the male characters in her books.

I really enjoy the second chance romances from Liz Isaacson. Especially moving are those stories that includes experiences from veterans.

I was touched by how well she described the survivor's guilt of those with lesser bodily injuries. Also very moved by her portrayal of the families left behind, and how they coped- or didn't.

Being the family of a vet is a lifelong experience. The good, the bad, the ugly.

This story gives hope not only for Love, but for the forgiveness we need to move on and move forward with our lives.

Whether we're the spouse left behind, or the warrior who ordered someone to take the shot, at himself, to save others.
Well painted the fear and anger for the family left behind.

It's a chance for forgiveness and new beginnings, as individuals, and as a family.

If you enjoy hope in harsh circumstances, hope you enjoy this book, and this series too.

I received a free copy of this book (in the collection of volumes 1 - 3) and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

Dang. I just love this story. The inspirational aspect of this is so heartwarming. There are times when I struggle in my faith and my glad that Ms. Isaacson shows the characters' struggles. I kinda didn't like Kate in the beginning but I warmed up to and fell in love with her. You can relate to the human aspect of her and her flaws. It didn't feel like phony flaws but real human flaws. You can relate to Brett's struggle for forgiveness of Kate's misdeeds. I hope this isn't a spoiler but I wished they had stayed at Three Rivers Ranch. This series includes past characters and I would like to keep in touch with these two and their son Reid as they feel like good friends.

I highly recommend this book (and series) to anyone who loves a great inspirational romance.

Fourth and Long is the third book in the Three Rivers Ranch book by Liz Isaacson and is definitely a read!
Kate has been keeping a couple secrets for 8 years and is now trying to make it right. But she didn’t expect the responses she got. Keeping a son from his father and then introducing them made her both guilty and happy. Happy for Reid and Brett but guilty for keeping them apart.
Brett finding out the secret of having a son and missing all those years AND finding out the divorce he thought happened 8 years ago never happened was a lot to process.
Will these troubled adults be able to come together for their son? Will they stay at Three Rivers Ranch or make their home somewhere else? And the biggest question…can Kate forgive herself and can Brett forgive Kate?

My favorite in the series!!!
Bret and Kate married quickly then Brett shipped out, Kate go lonely, but didn't cheat but so many misunderstandings on both sides. Kate asks for a divorce through email and Bret replies through email -whatever you want. Neither wanted a divorce ugh - angst of course. Kate shows up at the ranch with a 7 year old surprise. I love how they communicated through the years, Kate by letters she never mailed and Brett through emails he never sent. I really loved this couple and they love each other still. So glad the angst was cleared up quickly but not without some trouble. I highly recommend this book and the rest of the series but especially this book. I loved this book so much I listened to it on audio. Great narrator.

I very much enjoyed reading this sweet little Christian fiction book. Being able to explore different situations through characters in a book is many times one of the best ways to understand. Most of us won't have a child with our husband and not tell him for 8 years...or ask for a divorce from said husband, then never finalize it...or be shocked by husband when wife shows up with 8 year old child...
I got to a point in this story where I was so endeared to the characters that I could not put this book down!
Themes of forgiving both yourself and others as well as showing mercy and grace are prevalent here. Also turning to the Lord during any circumstance/life choice is the best way.
I would recommend this book as you read the others before it.

I debated overt his rating. The premise is good, but the details are not in line with the ending. The Army information is not correct. There is no title of "Commander," the award for his heroism during a previous deployment was terribly wrong, etc. The inserts of the unsent letters/ emails was distracting and added to the frustration of their fractured marriage. If he never signed the paperwork, who would ever think it was completed. Katie's desire to be with Brett was unbelievable because she never tried or showed she wanted to try. She broke all of her promises, avoided talking with Brett, continued to run away, and made Brett do all of the work.

three river’s ranch romance book 3

Reading the 3 books so far has been exciting. This one was the best of the 3. As I read them, I feel like I am there, I felt the pain Squire, Pete and Brett went through, when Squire tank got hit. Finding love but with the back flashes, they turned to church and find GOD along with answers on how to love. Finding their mate, having a ranch family.
This is another series of I feel like I am on a wonderful vacation and felling all the emotions, love and how great our God is.

It took me too long to finish this book, and thats partly because of the ending and partly because of myself.

Loved the characters and the setting, although it stays the same. The whole story was good, but in the last 60 pages she makes such stupid desicions, that I truly doubt her mental health. Such as lying to your child and taking him away again.

Woman, get your head out of your ass and start thinking with it.

Wowie. This was the Hail Mary of second chance romances! It was incredible and deep and had a lot to do with forgiving both others and yourself. There was army mixed in and parenting. I have an almost 4 year old son and it was fun to see what he'll be like in just a short few years. Pretty unbelievable. I really like the letters aspect - reading over what they wanted to say to each other over the years.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

FACING THE CONSEQUENCES

This book is another great book by Liz Isaacson. It is obvious that Kate and Brett was to young when they married. Now she has to face the mistakes she made. The letters they wrote to each other, if they had each sent them, would it had made a difference? Does love really concur all? I had to keep reading so I could find out what happen next. Young love can be so challenging. A really good read for young teens and on up.

Content: Clean, war PTSD

I... kinda hate her. I understand why he didn't send the letters. She left him. She's just.... then she just leaves with the kid again? I felt anger in my belly about that one. I was ready to give it 3 stars through most of it, but... that lowered it to maybe 2?

Then the deployment seemed rushed and a bit... I keep using this word lately, but far-fetched. And per usual, I feel the ending would have been better left at Christmas and not with the jump forward.

This was a wonderful story of two people who separated for seven years while writing to each other but not sending the letters. Until Kate is forced to see Brett to let him meet the son he didn't know about. They try to work things out but a lot of forgiving needs to take place. This book brought tears to my eyes. So sweet.
